[Q] Gamepad Support on KitKat

So, I have an iPega Bluetooth gamepad that worked fine during the day of 4.2.2-4.3 (on my Nexus 4) but after the KitKat update, it doesn't detect other buttons than the directional pad. Skip forward 3 months, I got my self a Nexus 7 FHD and definitely fell in love with the USB OTG support. Then, I had the idea of plugging my computer gamepad through the USB OTG and the same thing happened, only directional keys are detected.
Did KitKat break some gamepad support? How was playing games with gamepad before the KitKat update? Were you guys able to play games with PC gamepads?

Hmm, maybe some incompatablity issues. Can you tell us the Gaming Pad Model, and did you use that "iPega" Bluetooth Gaming Pad?
And, do tell that is the iPega designed for phone/tablets only ....?

Sorry for the late reply, night time. Yeah it's designed specifically for phones and tablets, not for PC. I forgot the model number, I'll check it out when I'm near a computer.
Yeah, before the KitKat update, I could play many games including Asphalt 8, MC 4, NOVA, etc using the Ipega pad but since the update, none works as explained.

You might have to hack together a Vendor_*_Product_*.kl file for your device ID, here's an example of a kl file for xbox's controller. You can find the identifier and product on your system logs when the device plugged in. You may even be able to use an existing kl file, just rename it.

That is really interesting, I'll go try it out. Thanks man!

So I read the link you attached and as suggested checked out what my USB Game Controller is via logcat and found out it's a "Dragon Rise USB gamepad". I Googled it and found the driver file from this thread (download link here). Extracted the zip file, moved the .kl file into /system/usr/keylayout, changed the permission to 644 (rw-r--r--) and restarted.
It doesn't work on other games than Asphalt 8 and The Amazing Spiderman 2 but at least I can play those two games now, so yeah...

I haven't tried the Ipega controller yet but will do when I'm in the mood. Thanks again @mdamaged

There should be an app that spoofs a controller(from many popular ones) then you map buttons/keys/sticks to it.. ie to fix gameloft no mapping options

Yeah there are apps like that such as Tincore Keymapper but the interface is really confusing, I haven't found a user friendly app for that :\

Actually if you buy some good branded controllers, there are specific app for them that lets you do this. Even the SixAxis Controller thing can too, but nah, I don't feel like spending that much money on mobile gaming

This is fot all the people who just bought the m9 to find HTC Sense TV missing and a horrendous app(my opinion , i do not intend to cause a riot.) , Peel Smart TV has taken its place, this is for you , NO more complaining !

download this app (original unmodified, untampered ) TV.apk from the attachment section. (then update it via playstore)

HTC is shutting down support for the Sense TV app on the 30th of this month (April). For better or worse, eventually you will have to use Peel or a different third party app.

i know.. peel has all the same stuff but is terribly disorganized... on the other hand TV not only being organised and fluid , has htc's magic powder
download the apk i have attached in the first post , its from sense 7 and is cleaner( you are running an older version)

well, htc will stop service for tv app , you would still be able to use the tv app as a remote , though the content will not be updated anymore...

I started using "Smart IR Remote - AnyMote" a while back. It's not free, but it's well worth the money. Controls anything IR, from TVs to air conditioners.

Been using it for about a year, it's incredible and you can set up some really advanced widgets too, they even have a default one that muted my TV when my phone rings. Not cheap though

Anyway I can keep using the app on the HTC m8? I hate peel, it doesn't work at all.

There is no attachment for the apk. The app is no loger supported by HTC.

TV app discontinued in April, You have to use Peel or some other Ir blaster app

Yeah I know that, was hoping against hope that a previous version would let me get past the initial setup to the remote control functionality. Really not a fan of Peel. Maybe they'll bring it back to android as they did on the windows phone? Did some complaining on twitter but I'm no't holding my breath...

已经过了一个月了，但是我看见中文想帮帮忙。上面他们说到了，今年四月份那个app就已经不能用了，但是HTC Sense TV用的应该就是Peel的基础，所以用Peel Smart Remote应该跟它差不多。他们都在抱怨，但是我还挺喜欢Peel

Set up WIFI 2.4 GHZ only then check for Update. (system has the Latest version)
The Remix Mini features a capacitive touch power button unlike any PC of its kind. Rather than awkwardly feeling around the back panel for that elusive power button, just gently tap the top of your Mini.
Within seconds you'll be able to start doing what you need to do.
Apply a bit of pressure to the Top of the box or one Tap, Unit goes to Standby mode....Nifty tap again to wake up.

Screen Capture has a resizable/Snap square to capture all/or any of the screen.

Installed Apps appear as a shortcut on the desktop.

WIFI speed Good, as ether,
Did the usual install a heap of apps at once from Play all apps in no lag.
Using apps require one click as we know and using Remix is more Double Click I have found, may be a setting somewhere.

Circle is the show desktop button.
Flyout window on the right click 3 horizontal lines Lower R/H.
Customise Icons on Lower Task bar as well as Hide lower task bar.
10th November Netflix is now Working.
Plex In and running looking good.
In the Left Corner of the screen there is a back Button for Remix this appears to interfere with apps that have a back button in the same location
Plex and Antutu Video tester so far I have come across.
Changing Resolution 1280 x 720 to 1920 x 1080 requires a restart how
windows 95 is that.
Some minor issues with running certain apps don't like being in a window environment but all will be sorted by the people at JIDE
This O/S could be a big game changer.

Just letting you know that since the patch 2.0.104 (Build no. 5.1-2015120401) apps with the "WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" can use the SD or a USB drive.

Absolutely true, I tested this feature yesterday and now the REMIX works like a charm.

now Premium Play (italian app) don't works and Plex stops film's view after 20 seconds and returns to home
Edit. Since the WiFi antenna is covered could it be possible to use a more powerful own WiFi antenna modifying the software?

If you are handy with a soldering iron, and working with the connection as seen on the PCB you could attach an external Antenna that may improve performance or check channel allocation maybe find a clearer/less used channel.

Currently use wifi at home.
Haven't tried the ethernet yet, but wifi was working fine.
It did have its hiccups at the beginning and once I updated to the latest release it was coming together. I did notice on Twitch that once you clicked on the pop out window it would get stuck on the right corner of my screen, without being able to close out or anything. I would have to quit Twitch and get into it again.. other than that everything was good!

HTC 10 and S2 Gear Smart Watch PROBLEM

Hey there,
I've just bought a new smart watch gear s2 (samsung) and the gear app installs but wont connect to the watch.
Any ideas? It does work on my wifes samsung s6 phone.

I used Gear s2 watch with HTC 10 properly. You have to make sure the Gear s2 watch is reset and is on the screen where it gives you instructions on how to install the app. After installing the app, it will also download 2 more apps(Gear plugin and Samsung accessories - don't remember exact names). Through the main app (Gear Manager) connect to the watch. I have tried my watch with different phones and every time I wanted to connect to another phone I had to do reset in settings.

Nothing has worked. I have installed the viper rom with full factory reset and get these errors. I have also installed the fixed app from the viper hub

Samsung gear 2 isn't compatible with stock HTC 10. I ment to buy it, but I had a chance to check it out, and it can't be connected with stock HTC 10 software. You will have to unlock your bootloader and flash a custom ROM if you want it to work

I am unlocked and s-off and have tried both Venom Rom(with fixed gear app) and leedroid, both are unable to connect the gear s2

It is not possible that Gear S2 is not compatible with HTC 10. The minimum requirement is Android 4.4 and at lease 1.5GB of RAM. I have had multiple Android phones at the time when I had gear s2 watch in my possession and all of them connected and worked perfectly. If you followed instructions and were pairing through the Gear Manager app then it has to work. Side note: I tested when my phone still had Android 6, maybe that Android 7 is some how isn't working well with the watch.

My wife S2 can pair on my HTC 10, so does the fit 2
make sure beside the gear app you also need to install the plugin
p.s. S2 test when andriod 6.0, fit 2 test on 7.0

yepp, they are resigned by me to match the modified gear manager.

I have had multiple Android phones at the time when I had gear s2 watch in my possession and all of them connected and worked perfectly. If you followed instructions and were pairing through the Gear Manager app then it has to work. Side note: I tested when my phone still had Android 6, maybe that Android 7 is some how isn't working well with the watch.

...it does not work on deodexed custom roms. Therefore my modded apks are required.

Is the s health app effected by this? Do u have a fixed version as it won't sync to my gear. I've tried everything and the fitness features are useless without it syncing. Thanks!

Sidesync - Confirmed by Samsung support as not yet compatible with S9

It is my first day back at work with my new S9. I have always found SideSync a handy tool, plug your phone in via USB and it will charge whilst displaying your mobile's display on your PC. I noticed that I couldn't connect via USB as I normally do and WiFi would connect via a hotspot but not our main network.
I have just finished a live chat with Samsung Support and after some testing, I was told:
"Thank you so much for patiently waiting. Upon checking, we do apologise but at Sidesync is not compatible with S9 at the moment. Samsung are working on it as soon as possible for more improvements."
Before contacting samsung, I tried:
-Re-installing SideSync on PC
-Re-Installing Samsung Mobile USB drivers
-Restarting PC
Samsung adviser asked me to try:
From the dialler on your device, enter *#0808#.
Under 'USB', select AP.
Under 'USB Settings', select MTP +ADB.
Soft reboot device

So there going to be discontinuing SideSync in favor of Samsung Flow from the Galaxy S9 onward

hey I am a special needs guy who uses sidesiync to navigate my phone and I just found out that you are not going to make it work on galaxy s9 and I really enjoyed it because it is the only way that can use my phone
I will really appreciate if you did not take it away please

Doesn't look like it.

Samsung Flow requires Google Play Services whereas Sidesync does not, correct? That's a blow.

hi, so i have an s9 and a tab a 10.1 with s-pen(nougat 7.0).
can not use sidesync with s9
can not use flow with tab a (according to play store-not compatible with this version)

I have both Flow and SideSync installed in my PC (with Windows 10).
Flow is better than SideSync in almost all the things, but it's not able to mirror the screen yet.

for now i use teamviewer.... waiting for samsung flow ... btw. you can install samsing flow via samsung store. but there is no mirroring option

But I can not use flow with my tab a 10.1 with spen... I can install flow on my s9 and on my PC.
So how do I sync files between phone and tablet?

I recommend Vysor Pro, if you have the cash and need the accessibility now. You need Google Chrome for the install I think, on your Desktop.
I use it, works for what I need to. Lets me control it via mouse & keyboard. Lets you change stream quality rate. Latency is next to nothing on the S9.
Supports Wifi and USB remote-in options.

Your other option is to get a DexPad or wait until Samsung Flow supports mirroring.

So... Just upgraded to a new phone. Now Samsung wants to force me to upgrade OS... Work PC, work laptop, home PC. Because Samsung Flow requires Windows 10. Way to go, Samsung. Alienate 43.4% of the PC user base. Or just take a step backwards and lose functionality that I already had with my old phone and current os's. Looks like I'll be trying a different solution this week.

And what about Mac users?? Flow only works on PC.

I gave flow a go but it just isn't as good as Sidesync, I would love them to bring it back.

Hey guys, i downloaded v 7.6.0-507 as an apk and installed it on my Galaxy S9. It worked, except that screen mirroring shows phone screen in landscape mode...
