Google Cloud, any sort of cloud backup. HTC Backup, ummm maybe a few more but those are the only ones that cross my mind at the moment. I'll update this if I happen to remember anything more for locked/S-ON phones.

You can backup app data with the Helium app:

Use clockworkmod to do a backup, backs up the entire phone or titanium backup to backup just apps and data.
For just SMS I use WaveSecure.

Any of these requires root?
I reckon, clockwork needs root.
Titanium Backup needs root too, fyi
and, so, as you require root for both, have clockworkmod create a nandroid backup...
the created backup is stored on your sd card, make sure you copy it to another location as well (in case your sd card gets crippled )
Seems like both app needs root.

nope, it does not seem like....
they DO require root...
also, quick question for this thread:
if i create a nandroid backup, do i still need to worry about my apps completely working (and therefore should also create a Ti backup)?

Nandroid backup is indispensable if everything goes tits up, so I make one prior to flashing a new ROM, at least then I know worst case scenario I can get back to where I am now. I use Ti to restore apps and, more importantly, their associated data after doing a clean install of a ROM, also I can schedule Nandroid to regularly backup apps and data for me

Best Backup for HTC One M8?

I need to return my phone for a replacement through amazon, and I'm wondering what the best way to backup my phone is? I've tried searching around on XDA and it's a bit overwhelming. HTC and google offer some sort of backup but I'm not sure what is being saved and there are other threads for different phones. If possible, I'd like to just be able get it set up where it's just like I never got a new phone with all the files and settings the same way. Also to have apps backed up too.
My phone is NOT rooted.
Thanks
If you are not rooted, make sure in settings you have enabled Google backup. Once you get your new phone and login with Google account select restore and it will auto download all your apps. But it will not download the app data. There are other solutions like backup apps like helium and titanium backup. I know helium works without root not sure about titanium backup. If you are rooted titanium backup is the best out there and it will restore all the apps and it's data.
The stock Google backup and reset is not good, but that's all we have currently. Hopefully it's better in the next version and we can restore app data as well from Google restore.

Is there an easy way to backup files? I suppose I could just transfer them to a PC but if there's a way I can do it with like with Helium that you suggested, that'd be great.
What about phone settings? Will helium take care of that as well?
Thanks

just use htc backup. it will backup everything and the restore to new phone when you'll sign in with your account. the phone will be identical to the old one.

Is this an app, or is this native to my phone? I see an HTC Backup for HTC One in the Google Play Store

Best backup app

I am looking to root but have just set it all up. Whats the best app to back everything up so once roted and i have lost everyting it starts again the same way i left it
Best backup app with root access is still Titanium Backup imo. Helium sucks and isn`t worth your money to be honest.
Using Titanium Backup for years now... It's all you need!
Cheers, Axel
I need it before root so that when it is rooted i can just put all apps etc back on

Sorry, misunderstood your intention I would suggest a nandroid backup with TWRP ! This way you can recall the phone exactly as it was when performing the backup...

Root first then setup. Google will restore all apps but without media, calls, emails or text. For all this you need some cloud backup because root require bootloader to be opened so device will be wiped.

noob question about backup/restore

With TWRP, can I back up the apps, make a full wipe, and restore all of them without having problems with clean instalation? Or is better titanium backup? Or is better download all apps again of Internet?
TWRP will back up the APKs, but can't back up some of the app data saved to the /data/media folder. If you restore a nandroid after wiping the /data partition, you'll find that some of your apps will have been effectively reset. It's better to use TiBU to save it.

In that case titanium backup would be a good option

Don't go on that route. You may get banned from XDA.
TiBu really is worth its price, especially if you use it a lot. And somehow I have a feeling that most people on XDA forums do need an app like this quite often.

Question How to Backup with TWRP on MIUI ?

Hello
im using TWRP 3.6 on Miui eu can i backup everything with twrp ?
because its says not all users decrypted
Hello.
TWRP is not the best option to backup user data now. I advice you to use other methods.
I personally use Swift Backup. It backs up all my apps along with their data. It's a really good one.
But I do hope you find a way to backup ur stuff using twrp. Still, I highly advice you to confirm that it does recover your backup. You don't wanna backup all ur stuff thinking they're recoverable then happens they aren't.
+1 for Swift Backup, great app

Yes. WiFi passwords, logs, app data etc etc. You need to be rooted for app data though. Some apps like banking apps will need to be signed in again, but it copies most app data over. Just run a full backup with all apps, copy to pc, flash rom, copy back and install swift backup again. I just backup the whole swiftbackup folder
