Hello everyone , i was looking into buying a drobo to increase the amount of things i can access on my fire TV with xbmc ,im not sure why but those nas devices are VERY expensive $450+ and they don't come with the hard drives so i started to look @ online solutions like google drive and dropbox , most give you 30GB for free but Microsoft one drive started to offer UNLIMITED storage for $6.99 a month which sounds too good to be true . but thats what they are offering . is there anyway to stream one drive content to xbmc. i understand that playing files from the web comes with its own issues but i have a crazy fast connection down and up so im not worried about connection speed . omg if this possible it would mean the end of ALL my storage problems forever .

OMG, you are so right.
If only there was an Amazon Onedrive program to test. (http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Corporation-OneDrive/dp/B00IEG0JOY)
If only there was a way to get a free Onedrive account. (https://onedrive.live.com/about/en-us/ 15gbs free)
If only you had an AFTV (quote: "on my fire TV")
If only all those things came together so you could test it yourself. Oh well, maybe next time you'll get lucky.
Or you could just by a cheaper NAS that comes with HDD(s). Like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Cloud-WDBCTL0...TF8&qid=1416459746&sr=8-2&keywords=wd+mycloud
Which comes in 2, 3, 4 and 6TB models.
And I'm not sure where you get that it's $6.99/month for UNLIMITED, looks to be only for 1TB. https://onedrive.live.com/about/en-us/plans/
You'd spend in one year more than half of what it would cost to get a 2TB NAS. Plus, you could run into file restriction issues uploading to onedrive.
Or you can just setup Plex media server + couchpotato+sickbeard. I have one on kimsufi . com and using without problem.
http://www.reddit.com/r/PleX/comments/2fo868/guide_how_to_set_up_a_cloud_plex_server_for_as/
I think it really depends on what your needs are. There are a number of options..
- Buy a cheaper NAS Drive
- Build a NAS /SAN
- External Drive plugged directly into FireTV
- External Drive plugged directly into PC running a media server such as Serviio (my favorite) or Plex
- Home media server
I have had most of the above at some point. They all have pros and cons. Currently I have a mini server with 4 hard drives and am running Serviio as my DLNA media streamer. Would you need to have access to your content outside of your local network? If so, you would probably want to go with a NAS device that has this feature in its software, or a server that will allow you to do it.
If you choose to purchase some equipment, do it next week on Black Friday or Cyber Monday - you can score some killer deals!
I am not saying you can't stream content from the app like you suggested, but you can be sure it will be less reliable than a local setup.

Thanks for this, I was able to get an extra 15GB (Total 30GB Free) by adding "camera roll backup" from my phone to onedrive.
http://i.imgur.com/yHavwLw.png
I read reddit, sound nice however I don't need this because I have 2TB nas, Dropbox 50gb, Google drive 15gb and box.com 50gb storage plus my cablemodem 300/300 Mbps internet connection.
Oblivious it is for someone who has lack of the access nas or hardware such as server at home etc.
BTW nice alternative methods using streaming from the VPS or a private co-location server downstream to your media center at home.
Cloud Media Player
There is a solution that can fit your requirements: Cloud Media Player
It's a Windows App that can play your videos, music directly from OneDrive storage via streaming. You don't need to download the file it is directly played from the cloud. It worths a try. OneDrive prices are ridiculous cheap, you can get even 10TB, your collection would be accessible everywhere by your personal devices.
Oops - did not realize this was a necro'd thread.
KODI:
Of course I was not aware that many plugins have been written to stream directly from the online services themselves... to answer the first question:
http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=208131
Onedrive plugin for KODI
Android:
ES File explorer may be able to launch vids, but I'm not sure if it can stream them from the various cloud services that it supports.
Using the native Android Onedrive app would depend on how good the app is and whether it works well on AFTV and what media it plays.
Windows:
If one is willing to do some networking and keep a server alive, you can map Onedrive as a network drive in Explorer in Windows 7, 8.1, 10.
http://club.myce.com/f186/how-map-onedrive-network-drive-letter-337440/
https://www.thurrott.com/cloud/micr...our-cloud-storage-as-a-drive-in-file-explorer
There are also third-party utilities that can map your available cloud storage and aggregate space from multiple accounts.
http://www.netdrive.net/
https://www.odrive.com/
Even with a fast connection, it's still probably going to be a bit painful, much like working with a SMB share over a VPN...
Universal:
Another possibility is Emby, a centralized streaming video, music, and live TV server in the same vein as Plex, but better in many ways... and it also has a native Fire TV client.
The "supporter" edition includes cloud sync plugins for Google Drive, Onedrive (beta), and Dropbox, where a client could play media directly from those online storage services.
http://emby.media/try-the-new-onedrive-beta-cloud-sync-plugin/
http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/21893-onedrive-cloud-sync/
http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/21715-dropbox-cloud-sync-beta/
The downside is that you would have to keep a local copy online., so the benefit is that it would save some bandwidth or transcoding for remote clients. I'm not sure if it can use cloud storage as primary, but I'm sure someone has asked in the forums.
Since the plug-ins are server side, it should work transparently with not only the Emby native client, but the XBMC / Kodi Emby plugin as well, which allows you to sync your Emby library with Kodi.
http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/21888-emby-for-kodi-10-liv/
Never thought of this. Guess I figured if it worked then everyone would be talking about it. I didn't try setting up anything special but streaming a sd video from one drive with lte worked perfectly (at least through 5 minutes of testing). If they really don't cap the storage this will be very useful. Gonna try it at my parent's house this weekend where the WiFi is pretty slow.

Is there anyway to have access to the music on your computer hdd with your EVO using 3G or WIFI? 8-32 GB is not enough to store a real music library IMO, and it's an inconvenience to have to constantly swap music in and out. It would be cool if a program would allow you to navigate through your computer's music in a similar way to if it were directly on the MicroSD and if playback to the EVO could be achieved with little or no quality loss.
Does anyone know if this is something that can be currently done or is this even possible at all?
if you have good upload bandwidth at home, you could use orb (not free).
if you happen to have a netgear readynas, there is a new addon that can transcode (audio/video) on the fly and stream directly from your nas.
Personally I just use last.fm to stream (or pandora depending on my mood).
try googling online media library or something. I am sure there is an app that is built for something to that effect. Or depending on how frisky you are, you could build a simple file sharing website w/ password protection.
google bought simplify media awhile back, hopefully they will re-release under 'google media' or something similar for android media streaming.
I have been using g-mote on my EVO and it works pretty well. You have to know your outside IP address and need to forward the ports for g-mote server to your internal IP. It is in beta and it crashes every once in a while but seems to work well for me.
Edit: If you search for gmote on the market, it is called Gmote 2.0 made my Marc Stogaitis & Mimi Sun. It is also a cool way to use your phone to control music and movies on your computer and use your phone as a touchpad for your computer.
I use Orb Live, works great for Audio. I read bad reviews about video streaming but, I don't do that so I don't know.
There's a mac and windows server.
Wow...Orb Live is much better that gmote, just installed. $9.99 on the Market and worth every penny. Is taking a long time to index my 85,000+ songs though.

I don't need it because I know a way to use the wifi network to share your media libraries and stream the media to your phone. It's way better. I also can do it through Bluetooth.
So it can access the files anywhere? Cause this would be awesome to use with my Epic. I got alot of videos and music on my laptop. So if I was on my 3G network, I can wirless stream my music and videos?
No, wifi and Bluetooth only.

It works as a virtual drive. I have one and it is very useful in the house since I dont have to connect my hardrive to anything in order to access it. another useful thing i do with is transfer files...my brother has the password to it so he downloaded the desktop plugin. Now whenever we want to show each other a movie or song...we just copy and paste the file onto the virtual drive like we would a folder on our computer and we have full access to the newly uploaded content...
the only draw back is in playback of your movies and music when not on the same network...it takes a while to load, and you have to deal with constant buffering.

I am new to Android & would really like to us my A7 to access both online hosted Streaming Video (movies & TV shows) as well as host my DVDs on my internal network.
I had hoped to use Netflix but research on the web indicates that isn't a go on Android without newer, possibly embedded hardward based, DRM solutions. I did see a post about Amazon and RockPlayer but not really much else to go on.
Can people reply and indicate what are the best Streaming Video sites (& client being used to access those sites) for the A7? If you need to use one for movies & one for TV shows please list multiple...
Can people also reply with more insight on how they are hosting & consuming their own DVD collections? Specifically I would like to know:
What did they use to rip their DVDs?
Where do they host them (off a PC? a NAS?, etc)?
What client do they use on the Android A7 to access them?
What protocol (NFS?,CIFS?,SFTP?,etc) does the A7 use to access their DVDs?
For reference I have multiple options available to me at home inclucing RedHat Enterprise Linux & a few other flavors, Win 7, Win XP, and a central NAS device.
tv shows
for tv shows I like (tv shows stream) from the market
Playon seems to work well for me and it will let you stream Netflix and other sites kinda expensive 5amonth or 80 for a lifetime.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App
When I get back from Spring Break I want to try Playon. I don't like the idea of another subscription but it seems really flexible. It might also allow me to watch Hulu through my bluray player (which stopped supporting it) so that is a big plus... Being able to centralize all of that to a central computer and shoot it to my TV, laptop, and Android A7 would be great.
The Netflix.apk is available as beta for Android. I installed on my A7 and can manage my account, queue and search. When I launch a live stream of instant movies it says can not connect to Netflix servers please try again.
My research is that they won't allow netflix to natively run on Android without some Digital Rights Management (DRM) capabilities (currently too open) built into. Some Android device makers may be releasing some newer models that allow for this and the native netflix should work for them but maybe never for us if it is a hardware based implementation...
That being said, the Netflix over playon seems to be working OK for me as I went ahead and set it up before traveling for Spring Break... Both Netfilx & hulu worked fine on my home LAN and was working OK on my hotel WIFI for a few hours but isn't for some reason right now.
I need to replace my home router so that I can take the current router with me as it turns my 3g/4g USB device into a personal portable WiFi (kinda like a geeky MIFI). Currently that router uses both my DSL & USB cellular data card together at home and I didn't have time to do that before I left and if I took it with me my home would have been down and I wouldn't be able to serve playon from home while traveling...
Tv.com also works well on these devices

This is something I need to look into.
A 500gb, battery powered, portable hdd with built in wifi. Plus it can also stream media.
Naturally I could choose to use my pc at home as a remote server, but it would have to remain powered on, takes time to setup ports, access rights & streaming can really lag.
Drawback for now at least, you can't reverse transfer files back to the hard drive via its built in wifi. Not a deal breaker if you ask me.
The GoFlex Satellite Wi-Fi connection can be protected with a password & WPA-level security.
It is capable of streaming in HD, up to 10Megabits per second data rate, but some devices may not support High Definition formatted videos.
And in case you're wondering:
Can I play files from my GoFlex Satellite to my Android phone or tablet?
Yes, files can be played back via the Wi-Fi capability. Videos in the formats that are compatible with the Android device can be played back using the default browser (Webkit). Unsupported video formats can be played back using third-party media players. If all your videos just download rather than play, try installing a more robust media player app. The Seagate app can be found on the Android Market.
A 500gb drive can be had on Amazon for about $173.
Any opinions or experiences with this device?
http://www.viddler.com/explore/GetConnectedTV/videos/297/
I have two that I mainly use with my iPad. The Seagate software isn't the best but they are working on it. I am a beta tester and they're starting to focus more on Android so that's good but if you're looking to stream video, there are a few DLNA players out there that are better at it. You can also hack the drives with custom firmware too.
Agreed about Seagate, and good to know that they are working on it.

$129.99 is a good deal, I got mine at Best Buy for $180. They stream to anything that can access wifi. I used one of them to stream to my friends TV to watch a marathon of the old Twilight Zone episodes on New Years day. The drive lasted just under 6 hours before needing to be charged.

Thank-you much. Just ordered one. I've been browsing several forums & by far the biggest complaint is the front end user UI. As long as I can get it to play vids out the box with no problems then I'll be okay.
A site you might want to check out when you get your drive:

It's not for everyone but it can be useful and the people there are pretty responsive.
I have tried the seagatein the past not the battery powered one but the regular NAS device. I found it to be very slow to upload or download form. I switched over to the WD mybook live. And I am not trying to flame or start some crap just giving my experience it did work but was slow. I also ran into issues with my Blueray not being able to read some content. This may have been the blue rays problem but I havn't seen as many issues with the WD. However all that having been said WD not have a bettery or wfi enabled device I am aware of it has an ethernet port that you connect straight to your router.

Appreciate the input. The only other portable wifi drive out there that I know of is the Kingston Wi-Drive. From the plus side this device has an SSD & the UI is much better. The downside is that it only comes in 16gb & 32gb capacities.
I'll keep y'all (I'm from Texas ) posted on how it turns out.
Crap! Any chance of a new coupon? I would have bought it for that price !
OK, I just paid the premium and bought one at Best Buy when I was in the city today. I also paid for the hack posted above. It's charging tonight and I'm going to start messing with it tomorrow. I'll post updates as I go along.
Perfect: The Wi-Fi HDD + Seagate Media app. + MX Player works as expected on my E4GT.
However on my Win 7 tablet (ExoPc) I can only play videos within a browser (Opera) as no such Seagate Media UI app exists for Windows. The problem with watching a video within a web browser is lack of media controls (vol +/-, play, pause, stop etc. etc.)
If anyone with this device knows how to get it to open up within a 3rd party media player on Win 7 after selecting the video within the web UI can you please share how it's done.

I thought about purchasing the hack myself, but wanted to test the device out first to see if I actually want to hold onto it or return it.
I can say that while watching a movie, its dropped its connection 3x & restarted the video accordingly from the beginning.
I had to fst fwd>> to the previous spot I left off at. No big deal as of yet, but if it keeps doing it then returning it will be more likely.
I'll stay updated with your replies & see if the hack omits some of the inherent problems I'm having. If so then I'll invest in the hack.

I haven't tried with my tablet yet, but I did try with my Win 7 laptop. The experience was a bit more frustrating to start. When I accessed the Seagate Go Flex (via IE or Firefox) it appeared to only directly play certain media files (for example it played .mp4 files but wouldn't directly play .m2ts files). I tried associating .m2ts files with WMP as well as VLC but in either case when I selected that file rather than it starting to play it would start to download the file to my laptop.
I then simply renamed the .m2ts extension to .mp4 (didn't recode the contents) and then when I selected the file it played directly in WMP. If I tried to change the player associated with .mp4 files (to VLC, for example) then the file would not directly play but again began to download. Changing the .mp4 association back to WMP did allow the media to play directly when selected through the browser interface.
Overall, I think I can live with these limitations though maybe the hack noted earlier will allow me more flexibility. I'll have to research that part.
Well at first the MX Player was working fine on my phone, then I noticed that the streaming videos would stop & then start from the beginning in a continous loop. WTH!!!
I figured okay let me reinstall the latest firmware, defrag & do a system file check to see if that works. When I tried to play my streaming content once more within MX Player the same thing happened. I figured okay it must be the app then.
So I downloaded Buzz Player & to my surprise this app has the option to connect to Network Media; when selecting that option my stored audio & video files show up within the player. Which is nice because now I don't have to use the Seagate Media app. What's even better is no freezing or restarting.
All in all the Seagate Satellite is a nice device but Seagate really (& I mean really) needs to work on their UI as well as open up some features & options.
In regards to my Win 7 tablet: Are there any windows based media players that can detect the wifi signal off my Seagate Satellite & display the directory much like Buzz Player does in Android?
I purchased this drive and the hack. I actually did the work the other day to hack it. It's fairly simple.
First, they have you download an ISO. I'm not sure why they do that, as they use it as a ZIP or RAR file. It's an archive you open and load the two files inside onto the drive. I was able to do this in Linux very easily.
Second, you use your wireless connection to talk to the drive and then use Telnet to see the files in a command line. Then you use the command line to run a file. I did all this from my phone using Better Terminal Emulator Pro, but I'm guessing the regular Terminal Emulator will work.
After the script ran, the thing rebooted. I used their videos to clean up the drive (remove the Seagate stuff and clean up the directory structure), then set up the authentication, web service and Samba. Again, all this was done through the browser on my phone because I was watching the videos on my laptop.
I was able to connect to the drive from my phone and browse the file system. I was also able to stream a few songs (no movies on my drive yet) without issue. I also used ES Flie Explorer to browse the drive through Samba and that worked very well. I was also able to stream music through that file system using whatever program I wanted to use that was on my phone.
The only problem I have is that I can't see the file system and have a data connection to the world at the same time. Perhaps this drive might be better if the connection were Bluetooth, but I really don't see why I'd need both at the same time to be honest. It's more like a "could be better" kind of thing. That being said, with the hack you can have the drive connect to a wireless network and then connect to that wireless network yourself. Once that's done you can see both, I believe. I just have not tried it myself yet.
I would highly recommend this product. I'm kind of sad I didn't get it at the $130 price mentioned before, but even at the $240 I have in it, I'm very happy with my purchase.
So yeah after thinking about it & realizing how I'll be utilizing this device, I think I'll forego the hack. But only because I really don't see myself utilizing the features. As convenient as it is to watch movies on my phone, the experience of watching movies on such a small screen, is to say the least, not really much of an experience. Though occasionally when lying in bed I'll grab my phone to watch a flick as I have the Seagate drive on standby mode.
In regards to using this with my Win 7 ExoPc tablet: Windows Media Player was able to detect and display the files on this HDD via wifi, I just had to download the proper codecs to get it to recognize .flv, .avi & .mkv video extensions. The screen on this tablet is 11.6 inches so it makes the experience somewhat more enjoyable.
Having to switch wifi clients back & forth, though cumbersome, is not really much of a deal breaker either. Hopefully in the future Seagate will address such issues with whatever firmware update they push-out (if they push it out).

If you enable file sharing you can use es file explorer and dice player to stream from your PC but it has to be on the same network. I've been watching movies this way since I got my nexus and it works great. There's no lag or having to wait for buffer.
You should just go download qloud video server and then thank me after... I guarantee its exactly what you're looking for... easy to setup and works perfect ... seriously don't know why more people don't recommend this!
Best solution to the OPs question is Plex
Or dice VPN
Dice player will play videos over a shared folder.
Did you try Zumocast?
I'd say Plex too, don't really like Orb's interface, but if the OP was having issues setting up Plex (a very easy process in my experience) I would think that they will have similar issues with any other service.
Does Subsonic handle video? If so, Subsonic = instant win... I use it for music. Couldn't ask for much more than what Subsonic offers.
Note: It's free for basic use, but for mobile use you need to donate a few bucks to unlock a key to use it with mobile devices as well. I donated like 15 bucks. EASILY worth it. I hook up my N7 to some 2.0 speakers on my deck and stream from my server downstairs.
I use BSplayer stream video from NAS

i dunno about App, but the old school way is indeed the easiest way. set up FTP server in ur PC, open and forward FTP port from your router, use ES File Explorer to add the WAN IP address as FTP server.
of course, 2 issues:
- if u got Dynamic IP (standard home cable/satellite broadband) then u need to update it every now and then
- i cant guarantee it can "stream" if using a FTP setup.
the alternative is of course using ur router, setup a Virtual server, and share the windows machine. if u set it up securely and use the correct ports, then it could be the better solution. but im not sure how to configure it with Netgear.
Dice player have built in
Smb , ftp , http support with external sub files.
No rooting is required.
Plex is fairly simple to setup. Need to make sure you UPnP on your router, if not then set the default port in the firewall on the router for the app. After you install, launch your browser or right click the icon in the task tray. Web address is http://computerIP:32400/manage. You will then tell it where your TV, Movies, Pictures, and Music folder is and let it sit for awhile depending so it can gather all the metadata.
I have been using Plex for over a year now and it just keeps getting better. I use it on all my devices when I am out and use Plex Media on my desktop connected to the TV or stream to xbox on my office TV.
Also create an account with plex forums and you can use it to log in in the web GUI and it will make it easier to connect to your N7 while out of the house.
If you have other question on setting it up, PM me and I'll try my best to help out.

I set this up yesterday and it works beautifully. It's supposed to be for Motorola phones but you can get a patched version from here:

Get the Patched-Rotation file
Setup is as easy as making an account and logging in to it on your PC and device. You also have to download the PC software from the zumocast site. I've tested this away from home and it works great. Streams videos, music, and basically opens any file up (like documents, pictures..etc)
Plex is best...
Ps3 media server/universal media server->mediahouse->dice or MX player and your good to go

never mind I forgot you mention away from home
