My nexus 7 has a dead usb port and i am currently running twrp. is there a way to revert back to stock recoveryor flash 5.0 through twrp. i have root,
There is a small chance that i could get it to work through fastboot but the usb needs to be in a perfect spot to work,
I'd get the USB port fixed instead of trying to find a way to flash a ROM.
I voided the warranty and don't have the money.

ROM Installer will let you flash recoveries, including stock.
I wish I knew about this when I needed to revert to stock.

Hi, Is i possible to First unlock bootloaders then root it then flash recovery then flash rom then relock the phone and still be able to install roms and still got custom recovery?
Then maybe install new roms and stuff? And then install normal rom and remove root and the install normal recovery without a pc? Is it possible?

That post says it will run your custom ROM just fine, but you cannot flash some areas after its locked.
Unlocking it again will wipe your phone as usual.

Correct, the next question is why would you want to lock your bootloader after flashing a custom recovery and rom?
Well actually you can ODIN without unlocked bootloader...so there's that.
Leave your bootloader unlocked unless you're planning to return your phone for a warranty claim.

You can (if you have root, or a custom recovery), but why?? There is no need to have a locked bootloader.

Well the micro sd port on the phone is glapping (maybe not spelled like that but if I move the phone it disconnect) and if that gets worse like the port stops working. Then I want to be able to send it back.

Alright, so first there is no microsd port on our phones, think you're actually talking about the usb port. If there is a hardware failure on your phone though (the port not working right) then locking the bootloader but leaving on a custom rom is a bad idea (they'll figure out what you did). You'll want to return to a stock, unmodified ICS experience and send in the phone for warranty repair or replacement.
Your option for returning to stock is to use ODIN (which is probably the easiest way, there are more than a few threads detailing how to use ODIN to return to stock).

I think once you root it, your warranty is void regardless if you go back or not.
If you open the super su app it has an option to fully unroot. I've never tried it. Not sure about getting boot loader back

I just need to return Recovery to stock and unroot. I'll check out the super su unroot option when I get home.
I've also been trying to install the OTA to 4.2.2 as this will restore stock ecovery but I'm getting a error (assert failed apply_patch_check( /system/lib/hw) I did have franco kernel and have returned back to stock and put a copy of power.tuna.so but that did not fix it.

I did do a bit of searching. I downloaded a power.tuna.so file from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2031985 but the OTA still did not flash.
Im not quite sure how deeply you've modded your device. If you fix this, will it then give another error is what i'm saying.. You're going to be looking for a system.img flash, whether it be via .zip or mobile odin. Did you verify the permissions and ownership on the replacement power.tuna.so, should be 644 root.root. Did you wipe caches after replacing it?

What about using ADB over network? I noticed that under Developer Options is that choice,so this could be the possible replacement of damaged USB port.
Well looks like I screwed something up when I tried to restore some of the hw files and now the phone gets stuck at the X loading screen. It does have a locked bootloader but still has TWRP installed so I guess my only option is to send it back for warranty and hope they don't notice the custom recovery.
I have an idea that may work... (IT worked like a charm for me)
1)find a flashable recovery zip. it can be a cwm.zip
2)replace the recovery.img file inside a package with the stock one.
3) upload modified to a server, then download to your phone.
4)flash it with twrp
5)reboot recovery
I don't think you're gonna mess up anything more. It worked for me.
Or If you are on yakju/takju 4.2.2 jdq39 you may try my zip I attached below.

Long story short, I restored 2 times and I guess that doesnt work with Kit Kat yet... and I relocked my tablet. Anyway know how I can correctly unlock and root my new Nexus 7 on Kit Kat?
After an unlock you can manually flash the recovery IMG then just flash the super su zip for root.
Adb fastboot recoveryimage.IMG
Then the super su zip can be flashed once in a custom recovery.
If needed I can do a team viewer with you and get you all set up.

Dear Experts,
I'm still new at this game, so bear with me please.
I have a LTE N7 on 4.3.1 (JLS361) that is unlocked & rooted.
Now I get tho OTA Update to 4.4 (KRT16S) downloaded & ready to install.
Aside from all those bad things that don't work anymore in 4.4 (eg. FLASH), what will happen ?
Will my N7 revert to a locked & unrooted device ? or will it stay unlocked & rooted ?
Or will it stay unlocked, but unrooted, and I only need to flash the SuperSU ZIP again ?

Mine is also unlocked and rooted and want to upgrade to KK.
When you said flash, you meant I had to install TWRP first then flash SU again?
I am curious because when I first rooted my N7, I used the Nexus 7 Toolkit and did not install TWRP. Can't I just use the toolkit again to re-root?

If you had a TWRP installed and downloaded the superuser binaries when you rooted initially, all you need to do is flash them again by pressing the "install" button in recovery. Based on the way he asked it, I believe that was the context of the question.
If you don't, you should install a custom recovery:
Wi-Fi only: http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/flo
LTE: http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/deb
Then download the superuser binaries to your N7:
http://download.chainfire.eu/370/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.80.zip
And flash them by pressing the "install" button in recovery.
Your toolkit might work, but why not just do it yourself?

You can install another custom recovery, e.g., clockworkmod.
Some toolkits reflash stock recovery after rooting, but that could only useful if you have something like a Samsung or HTC. Absolutely no point on a nexus device.

Thanks again for the help, xdhall. Sorry if I sound like a newbie, but I had the Note 8.0, I rooted and I could never get it back to stock. The original stock image for the US Note 8.0 was not available so I was stuck.
Didn't want the same thing happened with the N7, but you brought up a good point... this IS a Nexus device!

That makes it much easier to get back to ROOT then.
Just having to reboot in Recovery Mode and install the latest superSU.zip will be a breeze.
I'll probably wait a few weeks/months to upgrade to 4.4 though, as the comments on the 4.4 release are not that good, and I have several very important (for me) sites that still use Adobe Flash.
Anyway, I'm glad I haven't to start from scratch (backup, unlock, restore, flash recovery, flash superSU), as this is extremely time-consuming and tedious.

If you have a custom recovery installed, you can download the zip file from XDA link, then flash it in recovery.

I'm not sure what you're trying to do because TWRP or CWM IS the custom recovery. My feeling, right or wrong, is that you're treading highly unfamiliar territory here. Depending on which custom rom, your current bootloader may or may not work with it. If this sounds like Greek to you, you should read a bit more before doing anything.

I don't think you can root that way on lollipop yet. You need to flash SU from recovery, and unfortunately you need a working USB connection to flash a custom recovery. You also need a custom recovery to flash a custom ROM so that's out. Is your tablet still on warranty? You should send it in and get it fixed.

How long ago did you buy it? Any possibility for recourse from the eBay seller?
Make sure you have all drivers installed and maybe try another cable and/or another computer.

N7 is no longer supported and you will not get the latest security update from stock factory image. Copy CM's zip file wirelessly to your device then boot TWRP and flash the ROM.
