Galaxy Note 2 SGH-T889V Null IMEI and Unknown Baseband - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hello everyone,
I was messing around with my phone yesterday, and installed EZKat ROM from this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2747733). The phone couldn't connect to the network, so I flashed the T-mobile modem included in the thread, then the phone started showing 'Unknown' under the Baseband version under the about menu. So I decided to restore the phone back to the way it was through the TWRP backup, however, it still had the same problem (no connection, unknown baseband) and I just discovered that the IMEI is unknown (null) as well. The phone also keeps rebooting every 2 mins or so. I tried restoring the phone through KIES, but it didnt fix anything. Tried restoring it by flashing the original firmware through ODIN, still no luck. I tried following the instructions in this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2145967) however, QPST shows my phone as unavailable, and when I try to go to *#9090# it shows me a blank screen with "service mode" written on top. Is there anything I can do to fix it? I have tried to restore just the EFS by itself from the TWRP recovery, and it didnt work. Is the phone gone for good?
Thanks in advance for any help

I'm not sure this can help, but did you try to flash the correct modem (T889VVLUDNH2) for T889V ? Drop me a PM if you can't find it and I will send you a copy.

I've tried flashing the whole T889VVLUDNH2 firmware, but it still didn't work. I haven't tried flashing the individual modem though. I just pm'd you. Thanks.

@madmajd : If you've flashed the whole T889V firmware through Odin and the problem didn't sort itself out, then your NV items have probably been corrupted.
Have a look at my LTE guide, most everything you need to restore service should be there or linked to. You might be able to fix it with the T889V modem, or you might need to use T-Mobile USA T889 modems going forward, it's hard to tell at this point.
Good luck,
Darkshado

Hope someone can help me with no signal and loss of IMEI number

Hello,
I hope someone has some idea as to what I can do to fix my T889 Note 2 as right now it has no signal, does not register on the TMobile network and even worse, after playing with it some more it seems I have erased the IMEI in the EFS folder... Here is what I did:
I was initially using the Jedi X 7.2 ROM with Perseus Kernel, and everything was just fine. But I guess I was itching for something else  ... Reading thru the threads here I saw that some of us had flashed AT&T roms like Cleanrom without any problems. They said Cleanrom did not include an AT&T radio so it would work just fine for the T889. But just to be sure, after full wipe and flashing Cleanrom, I have also flashed a Tmobile Modem and Perseus Pernel for T889. That's when the problems started....
After flashing Cleanrom I had NO signal and the network unknown message... At that point the phone still showed the IMEI number... I have tried going back to Jedi X and Odin back to stock, nothing helped.... It still showed Unknown Network, and Not registered on network, impossible to make calls....
Reading some more thru other XDA threads I saw that someone had posted a solution that had worked for him by going into the Service menu (by pressing *#197328640#) and then going to UMTS, then COMMON then NV REBUILD and then ERASES ALL EFS1/2/3....
At that time I was pretty desperate and seeing that it had worked for someone else with a similar problem I tried it immediately... Now that I really give it some thought, I can't believe I pressed Erase all EFS !!
That's when I also got the phone showing me IMEI 0.... I guess now I have lost my IMEI as well? I have not made any backups, so restoring is not an option for me at this point !!
Would anyone have any ideas to help me revive this phone? thanks a lot :victory:
P.S. I should add that I still do have the IMEI number of course, it's written on the back of the phone and the original box as well...

Sorry you had to go through this man.. i was going through the same thing when i first got my phone. Xda didn't have a forum for the T-Mobile Note II so i decided to root and flash one of the international version Roms without even making a backup first (dumb of me) then i went ahead and flashed "Android Revolution HD" Rom and lost signal and IMEI showed Unknown.. so i asked for help but no answers.. and then "cmenard" dropped a stock Rom which i'm going to link you to.. i flashed that and flashed the modem on top and that solved the problem for me. So i will go ahead and give you the link to the Stock Rom and the modem i flashed to get my phone to work. Please follow the instrucations. Hope this helps!

Dude i lost my imei when i had my gs3 back in july.. I had no one to help me... thanks for hooking the dude up i can only wish someone like you helped me back then... you da man!!!!:good:
appreciate your kind words bro! I hope this helps him get his phone to work again. :fingers-crossed:
I would love to know if this worked for the people that posted no IMEI... If you could post if this worked... It would let me know to keep these two files in a special recovery folder. Thanks
Thanks very much Addis !!! I truly hope this works, will try as soon as I get home from work, in about an hour or so... After trying so many things I have doubts about everything now, but I am keeping my fingers crossed
(UPDATE) : Have managed to download the rom, I am not sure if the file is corrupted or anything, but I keep getting an error message: E:Can't open / external_sd/deodexed_UVALJ1.zip (bad)
Weird, since other roms have flashed just fine....
guys, one thing you MUST DO with gsm devices... back up your IMEI... this is actually stored in a partition on your device, and as of recent there is a handy little app in the themes and apps section to back it up. it is a free app found on the market and offered here on xda. before this there was a tool somebody created to back up and restore this partition
here is the app... download this, back up your IMEI (your efs partition). https://play.google.com/store/apps/...omizer&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDNd

Thank you Addis, no need for you to upload, it seems I finally got a proper download... Flashed it with TeamWin Touch Recovery and no changes, I will try to flash it with CWM also, but that has given me problems with this file.... let's see... Thanks for your help, I will hit your thanks button as soon as I finish writing this...
If all else fails, I will just go ahead and return everything to factory settings and send it in for repair....
P.S. I should mention that I have used a tool found on the GS3 AT&T threads which has worked for my T889 to re-inject my IMEI number back... So now my IMEI number shows up again... But that's about it... Network is still listed as UNKNOWN and Status is listed as Disconnected...
Bestplayer55 I will send you a link to the thread where I have found the program used to reprogram your IMEI, in the evening when I get home.... While it has helped me get my IMEI back, I am still stuck without network or signal, but it may help you more

Have you gone into the settings menu, more settings, mobile network and tried connecting to T Mobile that way? If that doesn't work then try to reflash stock T Mobile ROM with Odin and it should reset your network.

Hello again,
Bestplayer55 and anyone else who might need this, this is the tool I have used:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801997
It's written for the Galaxy S3 for AT&T and other carriers, but it worked for me on the T889 Note 2. Try to read all the instructions carefully .
One of the things you have to do is change a setting in the hidden menu which you access by dialing *#7284# using the stock dialer. In the hidden menu or PhoneUtil menu select USBSettingsMenu choose the correct mode and click ok. The correct mode for the Galaxy S3 is called RMNET + DM + MODEM mode, there was NO SUCH setting for my NOTE 2, but there is one that's very similar, so I chose that....
Then you jump to the section called IMEI Injection ... Pay attention to the way the IMEI is entered, it's a specific sequence, almost backwards....
You have the Instructions in the original thread there, or here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2077805
In the end thanks to Peoplearmy for developing this tool.
P.S. I just got home from work, so I will keep trying to flash different roms, now that I got my IMEI number back... Hopefully I can restore service as well...

Thanks a lot for the suggestions, I believe I have tried them before I lost my IMEI number, but I will try them again, it won't hurt !!
Phone is going back to Samsung for repair.... Nothing I have tried has worked ... Let's see what they can do
Hey I was messing with this on my T-Mobile Note II and I changed my RAT mode to WCDMA and now I'm unable to get LTE.
I've done EVERYTHING. I've even ODIN restored it. It WILL NOT connect to LTE anymore. Nothing I do to it makes it want to connect to LTE.
What do I do? Why won't it connect to LTE anymore even after flashing the factory image?
Will erasing EFS1/2/3 do anything to help or is that a really bad idea?
I have no clue what else there is to do. I've tried loading NV defaults but it gives an error for whatever reason.

[Q] Network problem

I have network problems, i have the correct imei, serial number and baseband but in the phone status says "network unknown"i don't have an efs backup, and my actual efs folder doesn't have any of the nv files, another thing is that the phone has signal bars even without the sim card, i have done a lot of factory resets, flashes thru odin but nothing works, can anybody help me to solve my issue please? Sorry if my english isn't good since is not my native language...thanks in advance
Wrong modem.
Thanks for your reply but I don't think that is a modem problem because I've flashed all the possible modems and still the same way, another thing is that I entered to the secret menu and did a erase of efs 1 2 3 or something, is there a way to recover or fix that problem? Please help me I am desperate

I didn't do any backup, so I'm screwed right?

[Q] Not detecting SIM card.

First of all this is my friends t889v with windmobile, and he asked me to flash cyanegeonmod on it. So I flashed the n7100 and the service wouldnt connect, so he told me to bring it back, so i did from a nandroid. After that service was functional but it kept on displaying "the process com.google.gapps has stopped" so i decided to wipe to factory from cwm. After that I got no service, so tried restoring from the nandroid again, but this time i got no service there too. I tried to flash 3 different modems, and none did anything. I have also factory reset from odin and still no luck. I tried flashing a custom kernel, and that led to the phone not booting, so i factory reset once again :crying: . I have looked alot and havent found a solution, so if you may please help me i would be VERY grateful. Thank you very much.
I am actually crying right now someone please help me :crying: I have tried EVERYTHING i figured out the imei says null / null so is that the problem?

I was struggling with a very similar problem last night. Rooted and then suddenly sim card isn't detected.

Just restore your backup. You have one for your friends phone right?
If not, flash a T889 TW ROM and the IMEI should come back. Your first mistake was flashing the N7100 ROM a device based on the N7105. Radio hardware is different...

I was messing around on my ATT I747 phone switching users, when I finally got the new account on the phone, the IMEI is missing. The IMEI and Bluetooth are blank/unknown. I've tried using NV tools, but the *#7284# phoneutil isn't working. I've reinstalled the NJ1 modem, nothing works.

When you went into About phone -> Status did you touch the IMEI information row. It actually opens a submenu where your IMEI is displayed. I've had a few moments of panic before I realized that early on with CM 12.1 ROMs. It looks a little odd since some of the other rows like IP address and wifi MAC display their values in little gray text right beneath them.
Also, your EFS folder will always appear blank if the file manager you viewed it with didn't have root access before you browsed into the folder.
Sorry if this is obvious. Just thought I'd point this out because I think the IMEI submenu was new with lollipop. I don't recall it on kitkat, but I could be wrong. Hope you get it worked out.

You can execute the needed commands from the command line, see here rootzwiki.com/topic/32397-tutorial-imei-backup-nv-with-qpst-us-variants/
Or if necessary suck it up and flash stock.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk
I suggest confirming that you have both the nj1 bootloader and modem. Perhaps one or the other did not flash properly.
If the bootloader and modem are correct, I would try a different custom ROM or flash the stock Samsung ROM as suggested.
I tried reflashing the modem/bootloader, still no dice. So, I think I'll just go back to NJ1 stock to get it working again, and then go from there. I'll flash the NJ1 bootloader/modem first (again), then the system/boot. I'll let you all know how it goes.
Thanks for the help!
I'm still not having any luck. I did a factory wipe, then flashed the NJ1 bootloader/modem/system image via TWRP from this post on XDA:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...tt/general/ucufne4-to-ucufnj1-update-t2941792
After flashing the system image, TWRP tells me there is no OS when I go to reboot, and It just hangs on the AT&T logo. I'm really not sure what to do from here. I'm reading that if I try to downgrade to NE4 where there are more files in existance that it will brick. I would load the bootloader/modem via Odin instead of TWRP, but I can't find a NJ1 tar file.
I'm very sorry to keep asking for help, but I do appreciate it, and do plan on buying you both coffee if you let me.

The one from Enewman17? That's the one I flashed from the last link I posted. Gets stuck in the AT&T screen, if I flash CM 12.1 the OS works but no IMEI. If I upgraded to NJ2 would that maybe force a redo of all the partitions? Or would that make it worse?
If it gets stuck at the logo, boot into stock recovery and do a full factory reset/wipe.

OK, loaded stock recovery via odin, finally booted into stock 4.4.2 OS. IMEI and bluetooth are still missing. Looked in all EFS folders via Root Explorer, and there are no NV_data files. Baseband and build are both NJ1.

I tried that, but I couldn't get the tool to connect. I'm reading that a Z3X tool can sometimes fix it? I think connexion2005 has one, so I'm asking them. Spending 16 hours on a $100 phone, lol. I'm ready to do something else If you know of someone else that can fix, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Before flashing any s3, I always made a backup of the nv folder.
Fortunately, I have never had to make use of these backups.
I know of no other way to fix the issue.
Are you using a win8 machine? Maybe win7 would work.
I also have lost imei on Samsung s4 m191. I can't seem to find a fix, Is there one?

Having trouble with the service.

My problem started some months ago, when a friend tried to root my phone, he told me that he rooted it but every app that checks for root told me that it wasn't rooted and i couldn't use apps that needed root also, the downside to all this is that i couldn't use apps that do not allow root, like the banking app, or Pokemon Go, but i used the phone like that for some months until last week when i decided to try and fix it. I thought that if i flash a stock firmware everything should be fine and the phone should be as new. On the phone, it says that the model is SM-N910F(behind the battery), in the settings it also said SM-N910F, so i tried flashing a rom for this model at first and it kept failing with me not knowing why. After trying different thing and googleing some time, i finally noticed that in "Fast Download", it says that the phone's model is SM-N910P, so i started searching about this, i didn;t understand why there were 2 different models on my phone, then i found out about searching my IMEI on imei.info, so i tried it and here it was SM-N910C, i had no idea what all this meant, but at this time i already got stuck into bootloop. Eventually, i found this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/help/help-sm-n910f-sm-n910p-bootloader-t3299285 and did what cam_bob22 said, it worked, i finally flashed the firmware on my phone and it worked, i could use the bank app, pokemon go, everything was fine except the fact that i couldn't select or change my mobile operator, when going to mobile networks, the mobile operators options was greyed out and couldn't be pressed(i want to mention that i did have service and that data worked but the internet would work only in roaming and i couldn't get 4G). So i tried updating the software from 5.1.1 to 6.0.1 like it was said in the instructions and hopping that this update would fix the issue, but unfortunately for me after the update i somehow lost service completely, the signal sign was in the shape of a triangle with no bars, and the mobile operators setting was exactly as before.
So far i tried going back to 5.1.1 but besides the Hands Free activation that i can't make to go away, i still can't use the mobile operators setting and my data only works with roaming activated and doesn't get 4g. One thing that i forgot to mention is that the IMEI with the 5.1.1 firmware was of a samasung Galaxy S5 not a note 4, i checked it on imei.info.
I was wondering if there is any way for me to go back to the OS i had before my friend tried to root my phone, when it said in the settings that it was SM-N910F and everything worked as it should have.
Thank you for reading and i really hope someone can help me.

There is no way to go back unless he made a backup. Which is why you should always do this before you flash anything.
I'm not sure if this will help but you could try flashing a international custom Rom after you have correct firmware. But if your phone is a Sprint version, you'll have to use a special data fix and kernel.
What firmware did you end up using to flash? Was it Sprint? If so, and you use gsm service, try flashing my Gsm stock Rom for Sprint phones. It's in post 2.

You'll first need to be on current marshmallow firmware. So flash firmware with Odin first, then install Twrp with Odin. Then install Rom with Twrp.

Thank you for the reply, i wanted to say that with the Sprint firmware i used, after doing all the updates it unlocked the mobile operators option, but it couldn't find any.

No, the network operators is unlocked but there's still no service, when i try scanning for an operator it just stops with no message, and nothing happens.
I forgot to mention this, but before all this happened, I made a back-up of the phone with smart switch, is it possible to get back to how it was using that? And another thing is that when using the backup, it only restores music and photos, no contacts, no apps.(From what i've noticed so far)

You would have needed a system backup with twrp.
What country you in? What network you on? What firmware you on?

Ok. About the best advice i can give is, because your on pure Sprint Rom, something is messing up with csc or something.
All i can suggest, is maybe try updating to QC1 with Odin and then try flashing my gsm Rom. Which is essentially just a tmobile rom.
And if that don't give you the function you you need. Then maybe try an international Rom.
It's hard to say what the last person did to the phone.

Also. You stated your phone first showed as a 910f. So maybe flashing a international F rom, will provide the correct csc settings for your phone to work. Only problem your gonna have, is because it's Sprint hardware, you'll have to pair the Rom with a kernel that'll work and some lib files for data.
I can help you by putting together some files to flash. But the main question would be, Do you want a stock note 4 Rom?
Also before any of this happened, do you know what firmware you were on? Marshmallow? Lollipop?

I would really appreciate if you helped me put the files together cause i have no idea how any of this works, i'm new. But i wanted to ask, is there any chance for thia to brick my phone?
When it had sm-n910f on it i couldn't update it after 5.1.1, when i pressed update it wouldn't do anything.
And yes, if possible i would like it to be a stock firmware, but if it is not possible i don't mind using something else as long as it works properly.
Thank you for all your help, i don't know what i would do otherwise.

Well, first, let me state, about bricking device. I have to state that it's not impossible to brick. But after hundreds of flashes never had problem. These devices are hard to brick. What hard bricks a device is messing with boot loader and partitions that shouldn't be messed with, like trying to unlock lte bands. But just flashing roms is fine unless you flash a Rom not for your phone and it over writes wrong partition.
All snap Dragon note 4s have the same layout so all you need is correct kernel, csc, and some ril lib files to get data working.
Now, mine main worry is that the phone is still unlocked, because I don't know what possible changes were made to it.
But with all that being said,I'll move on. With another post.

Before we go too deep into this and upgrade and stuff. I'd like to just test a custom Rom on your phone and see what works.
So what firmware are you on right now?
5.01, 5.1.1, or 6.0.1?
I'm gonna take a guess and move on. You last stated you were on OG5 which it's 5.1.1. So if that's true, let's try the following.
First I'm gonna assume you already used Odin to flash that firmware. So now we need to flash Twrp. So download this on pc https://eu.dl.twrp.me/trlte/twrp-3.1.1-0-trlte.img.tar
1 . Put phone in download mode. Open Odin and plug in phone.
2. In Odin options make sure everything is unticked except Reset Flash Counter.
3. Now click on AP and select the Twrp file.
4. Flash it. Let it flash until it states it's completed. Once done. Unplug phone. Pull out battery. Put back in and boot to recovery by holding power+home+vol.up
5. Now you should have Twrp. Just reboot phone so we can continue to next post.

Ok, here you go. If your where we left off, you should be on stock QC1 and have Twrp installed.
Just download this file, boot into recovery, and install. This file will delete dalvick/cache, so phone will take a few minutes to boot up.
I actually recommend before flashing, you do a factory reset in recovery then install.
Anyhow here you go. Let me know if it fixes what your looking for. If not, my only others option is to install a custom n910f Rom. I'll gladly walk you through if need be. But try this first.

Alright so i just tried it and when starting my phone, i can't even set it up because i keep getting a message that com.android.phone has stopped. After about half an hour of trying to start it, i finally managed to get to setting and to app manager, there i looked for com.android.phone and it was nowhere to be found. Apart from this i noticed a N with some signal bars where my phone signal should've been and i didn;t get the hands free activation anymore, but that's all...
