Lollipop downgrade - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there, I upgraded to the 20a lollipop build via kdz. But now with the custom builds out I'd like to go back to so I can use twrp.
My question is do i need to use a tot file to go back to Kk or can I use a kdz to return to Kk?
Then root, use flashify bump twrp and flash away

I don't think we can downgrade from 20a to Kitkat and bump again. At least not yet. This is due to new bootloader installed from 20a KDZ.

You are wrong. Kdz overwrites the bootloader. There were reports of succesfull downgrades via kdz.

Awesome if this is the case. Can you please point me to that thread if possible? I also have one Lollipop G3 waiting for a downgrade.
Thanks!

This thread.
Plus a lot of people on 4pda forums downgraded via kdz, all went fine.
Btw, if you are afraid of .kdz bricking your phone, take .tot and .dll from here. I never saw a brick because someone used .kdz instead of .tot, and i don't believe that this is even possible, but still...

All done, kdz downgrade went all fine!

WTF v20E back to v10L using non TOT method. Bootloop
I think its because of the data partition?

Hey guys,
is there a general consensus that the L update (at least stock/OTA) is not ready yet? I've seen quite some negative feedback about people disliking 5.x.
Is this just people enjoying L doesn't really make voices or there is indeed a major flaw with it as of no

Well, opinions differ due to different usage scenarios and apps. Plus some may be blinded by "novelty" of 5.0.
I can't stand current 5.0. Sure, it's faster than 4.4.2, but it's also less smooth - and THAT is painful. Applications are way jerkier on 5.0 - G+, Vkontakte, Gplay, nova launcher, thousands of other apps - they all have animation problems on Lollipop.
20X firmwares are based on 5.0.0, which is full of holes - at least 1 confirmed memory leak, tons of bugs that were fixed in 5.0.1 and 5.0.2... Plus, some features were crippled in transition - native 5.0 "Do not disturb" sucks big time, no true "guest mode", "new" (Read - stock) "recents" are an epic fail, etc etc etc...
Battery is A LOT worse - during 4G browsing on Kitkat i'm easily able to reach 6.30-7 SOT. On 5.0 even 5.0 SOT is hard to reach...
I decided to wait for LG to fix Lollipop, since it's unusable in it's current state. Rebooting the phone every day (To avoid speed drops, memory leaks are strong with this one...), keeping up with bugs like "Screen turns off and on while on wireless charger" is simply too much for me.

[Q] LGE980 question about lollipop

I have LG Optimus Pro E980. It has KitKat 4.2.2 and I rooted it with towelroot last year.
I know very little about this but and I would like to upgrade to Lollipop but when I check for updates it tells me there are none. I assume this is because I rooted it and that I need to flash Lollipop.
I've never done this before and don't know if it is even an option.
Can you tell if I can do that?
If so, where are instructions and files to do that?
If I do flash and choose to remove all data will I lose the root and if so does towelroot work on Lollipop? I would really like to start fresh while doing all of this.

Since you're rooted, you can't install manufacture update with the update function. Doing so will put you in a world of hurt.
How do I flash kitkat again? I tried following these instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44983841&postcount=1 but am really confused. I don't know what kdz file I'm supposed to use and I can't see the pictures that are mentioned in the instructions as how to set the settings in LG flash tool. For some reason they are not loading on the web page. Also, I see there is a tot file but I can't figure out how to use it. so, I'm lost here. I can't get my sd card (I started a thread about this). I either need to flash kitkat (which I assume will fix the sd problem) or find a way to fix the sd problem. Sure hope someone can help, and sorry for multiple threads.

Busybox & xposed? Also Battery tweaks for best life?

Heloo everyone! I have h811 g4 with root and twrp. Can i now install busybox and xposed now? As well to what extent have you guys gone in tweaking for the very best battery life?
Currently, there is no working xposed version for the G4. Of course, this may change in the future.
For the best battery life, I recommend installing Greenify and debloating your phone. Check out this thread to learn what apps are safe to disable. Screen brightness, I've learned, also plays a major role in battery life. The difference you see between 55% and 70% is massive

For me it was very simple. Just look up h811 twrp on Google and it will take you to the dedicated XDA post. Really simple.
Get root
Enable OEM unlock in Dev. Options
Flash 2.8.7.0 twrp img with Flashify
Boom you will have twrp installed.

He just said he has twrp on h811. Which isn't the eu version. Ive read the thread he was talking about and apparently on tmo you just need to check oem unlock to install twrp. On h815, even if u have that option in dev settings, you can't.

What I meant was only the EUR version of the H815's can be unlocked, not that only H815's in general are the only ones that can have their bootloaders unlocked.
Syntax error I suppose! But if you have an SEA version of the 815 or a SWE version, etc. you can't have its bootloader unlocked. But you are right, the H811 and EUR H815 have unlockable bootloaders.

Yes, people have tried it. No it does not work, and the phone bootloops.
Specifically, the problem is related to the custom changes LG made in libart-compiler.so compared to stock android. What needs to be done is have someone decompile the .so and compare it to a decompiled stock 5.1 libart-compiler.so, and make whatever corresponding changes to the Xposed install script for an unofficial custom build of Xposed for our devices.
Frankly, if I had TWRP on my G4 I would look into this myself...but since I have the Verizon version and can't, it's not worth all the bootloops and constant soft-bricking that would occur during the testing process for something like this.

TWRP is only available for the EU H815 which is unlockable on the LG website. or the H811 T-Mobile G4 which has an unlocked bootloader.

If you absolutely want to get amazingly battery life then you can change the governor to powersave. It will run your cores at the minimum frequency so you'll really stretch your battery life. However, you do sacrifice performance quite a bit.

Marshmallow KDZ?

LG G4 VS986 2BA Root Process

Hey everyone,

"vs986 UsU"
I tried to root stock mm with Update-superSU.zip and twrp but no luck. you can flash the stock noget rom but I suggest deleting the modem.bin file in the zip file because you will boot loop. But if you do this you won't be able to make calls but you can use data this is still a work in progress
Here is the current active steadfasterX LG G4 UsU Unlocking thread for anyone interested in following it:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/unlock-unlock-lg-g4-device-usu-t3760451
I don't think I've seen any reports of VS986s working 100% after UsU unlock, so if you rely on your VS986 exclusively, you might want to do some research first.

Everything works including mobile calls, mobile data, Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS, video player/YouTube, etc I suppose since it's the stock VS986 Marshmallow?

yes
By "Unlock" you mean (network) carrier branded phones correct?
So you MUST downgrade from 2BA to 13B to root? Via the LGUP / flashing a .kdz correct? The 1an stock firmware is compatable 100% the way it is? And then you root from there?
What is this magisk?

No there's a bootloader unlock that let's you root the latest fermware with magisk
It's recommend to do it on the latest fermware so you have less issues
