I am getting a Desire soon and personally I would rather remove Sense UI, but this is not longer possible the easy way.
Can anyone explain if you can remove sense another way? I have heard people say to use Launcher2 or HelixLauncher to get the 3D app drawer and the nexus one launcher. Can anyone confirm this works?
Thanks!
Yep if your install either you can make them default and use them instead but it will still have the Sense theming of all the apps / status bar etc and obv the HTC widgets wont work
ok thanks or the quick reply
so if i use either of these launchers i will not be able to use HTC widgets?
and when/if the desire gets rooted i'll be able to stick a nexus one rom on?
has anyone had any experience with either of these launchers on the desire?
im new to android so i apologise for the noobish questions
Not a problem
Nope you won't be able to use the HTC Widgets... but you can launch the HTC Sense launcher at any time and get access to your widgets though it's a bit of hassle doing that everytime hence i'm gonna stick with htc sense launcher myself.
Both the nexus launcher and helix work great on my Desire, no problems as far as i've been using it.
Not sure about putting then nexus rom though, sorry
thanks for the info.
so installing launcher2 enables the 3D app drawer from the nexus one?
just to clarify lol
Yep the home screen looks like the nexus one and you get the 3D drawer with fades. It looks pretty good! I just wish the widgets still worked then it would be perfect.
thanks again for your quick reply
so where do i download this launcher 2? from the android market when i get the phone?
sorry so many questions!
Not a problem,
Helix you can get from the market but launcher2 you will need to get from somewhere else but if you search these forums you will find one you can install no problem
awesome, thanks again.
one last request: which version did you use? i've searched here and elsewhere and each version is different and im not sure which to use
I'm not sure to be honest, if you know how to check then I can tell you?
ok so this is awkward.... seems google has released the new Google Search and Google Experience Launcher for all handsets running 4.1 and higher..... with Google ripping the forefront of KitKat out why move to it?
Lets get a list going as to what KitKat brings to the table behind the scenes....
1)better memory managment
2)Smoother UI experience(butter+)
3)built in printer support API!!! I love printing from my phone now!
For those that want to try the new Search and Google Experience Launcher here are the links.
Download Google Search 3.1.8 APK
Download Google Experience Launcher APK
yes this turns on "Ok Google" from the launcher and also allows Google Search to talk/ask questions back to you.
I still think we need KitKat as I have been running it and it is very smooth and seems to be snappier than the stock rom.
FYI the launcher will NOT work on our stock roms!!!
It is working on other phones with 4.1 but not our phone and stock rom(with stock kernel). You can use some modded 4.1 stock roms that replace the kernel. As I believe it is a kernel based issue there will likely never be a fix as no-one is going to put in the time or effort.
Well, the Launcher still needs to be side loaded even after the Search App updates, so it is a little different there. I like having hangouts handle sms. I also like the little things like the touch sounds and such. All of these things can be emulated, but it still takes work and a little knowledge to get a kit kat experience on a different stock rom.

This is true but the launcher will be on the play store and it has been reported that a card in now will popup asking if you want it.
For a stock rom you get the stability over most other roms but I must say KK on ours has been a really big surprise.
I sideloaded the new now on KK and the feedback is pretty sweet, no more hunting to find the right number to txt or call it will ask you and you simply talk back.
For me it's all about consistency in the experience. It drives me crazy to see a stock dialer or stock messaging app when I am trying to create an AOSP experience. That's why I generally go for AOSP based ROMS. It's just jarring to have the settings menu come up with a white background. OCD

Were you (or anybody) able to get this to work properly on ZVC? Tried the above, plus looking to get a potential lib, keep getting "Google Search" FC.

opppsss forgot to add that blurb. The launcher doesn't work on the LG OG stock roms. other 4.1 roms do work so it has something to do with the stock rom.
I'll add that in. The new Google search(Google Now) should be fine.
OP updated!!!!
Launcher didn't work for me on optimus 4.6 the OK Google feature worked but when I tried to add the search widget, OK Google went away. I don't know how to get it back yet either
Edit: turns out it went away cause I switched the language. OK Google command now works again

Just seen that there is an update for the english language pack that needs to be installed.
slid left to Google Now
scroll to the bottom
hit the three dots
select settings
select voice
select offline speech recognition
for those in the US ensure that English shows up and it is vers 28. For all others ensure you have downloaded your language.
BTW KitKat ROM users... this is NOT for you as it is all setup!

As Google Now has been officially released for the M8, I jumped from GPE to try it out with Sense
All good except the dialler.I want the dialler with the Google search look up.
It doesn't appear to be included. Does anyone know of a similar substitute?
Anyone?
Hi there!
As far as U have seen, HTC 10 is a hyge hardware device but it comes with only standard Google apps pre-installed. So HTC Sense interface is basically disappeared from the phone.
Considering how much better HTC apps are compared to Google standard apps, it's a huge shame having such a great phone on hardware level running on standard google base system. People have always had hate for custom interface but they don't know what are they saying if they consider everything as a third-party apps, the evil. There are 2 different situations, one thing is customisation of network operator which install useless and buggy application, another thing is manufacturer applications, which in the case of HTC, have always been better than the standard Google applications since the beginning of android. So having no HTC apps on the sense 8 is a great loss. My question is: it will still possible to install all HTC apps on the play store of sense interface on the new sense 8?
By the way I have an HTC One M9+ Supreme Camera and I'm currenlty on sense 7 and android 5, well if sense 8 will be with google standard apps only, I hope that the update to Android 6.0 for my device will keep sense 7.0 interface. I want to use HTC apps.
I think this is a welcomed change. Simpler, faster updates, faster phone... But I do think I saw somewhere that you could install the applications from the play store. Worst case just port them over, there are so many mods that allows you to port to other phones I bet it would be easy to move it over to the 10.

I think that if you go looking to the quality of HTC apps compared to standard google apps, there is no match. If someone want a standard and free Android interface, then buy a nexus phone which is excellent. If I buy an HTC, I want a customized Android experience, at least this is my opinion. Having to struggle with MOD it's second hand option and also if HTC won't develop its apps in the future it would be impossible to do.

That's your opinion, I see very little to no difference. If this is a deal breaker for you, protest... and buy from LG or samsung. I find the google versions are more than adequate for all I need. I love that more manufacturers are going to this style, faster updates and a more streamline approach. They can add their best features to the device and keep it fast. Give it time before you protest them, you may like the change. If not you have 14 days
Well, on HTC One M8 running HTC 10 ported ROM I could easily download all the missing HTC apps from the Play Store. So, no actual difference from Sense 7 roms.
Maybe on the real HTC 10 your experience will be different.
you know if you have the apks of the older apps you can still install them right?

I suppose that it depends...if the apps has been ported to the current version of Android... and this is something that HTC have to do.

Yes it's my opinin but I still think that if you want standard google interface you can buy a Nexus or maybe HTC can realese the Google edition phone like it did in the past.
By the way I have recently swtich from an HTC One S with sense 4 to an HTC One M9+ Supreme Camera and sense 7 (also blinkfeed is nice) but I do miss some widgets from HTC (like gallery widget, bookmark widget and colored meteo widget).

It was a business decision and sadly if you hate it then you'll have to keep you M9 or buy something else. Some of us are excited about it and who knows you may grow to love it. Or maybe they will regret it and put it back in an update.
As far as some reviews said it will still be possible to download all HTC Apps from PlayStore and thus install them on the new HTC 10. In fact it is wrong that they are better than the respective Google Apps, as they are just GUI modded Google Apps.
Only App I wouldn't download is HTC Gallery App, as I read that it interferes with the new HTC Camera App, as the later one has been optimized to work with Google Pictures App.

I don't understand people sometimes. This information has been a talking point of almost every general review of the new phone. It took OP longer to ask here and wait for an answer then to just Google it! Save yourself some time and Google it first.

Google Photos, in my opinion, is only good for photo editing. A standalone gallery is sorely missing from Android. Hell, I still use a pre-CM owned version of QuickPic instead of Google Photos.
I'm looking for a way to replace my stock dialer on 13b with Google own dialer and contacts app I've tried apkmirror for downloading them but they fail to install yes I made sure to try the one specifically for lollipop is their any way to do this?
Sent from my VS986 using Tapatalk
Obviously not what you want - I'm honestly not sure how to get those working right now -
but you could use KK Dialer and KK Contacts from GPlay, then if you really wanted you could modify the icons to make them look like Google Dialer and Contacts,
their UI's are very very similar to Google's Stock. These are my replacements ATM.
Hopefully we get support for these two soon though! I wish to see it that Google keeps building their apps to support more and more devices.
I got Google dialer 2.05.07 RC4 working on my H811 device.

Thank you for the confirmation, we're looking for a minimum of 5.0 or 5.1.
2.0.5.07 RC4 is minimum 6.0. But that is good to know for M users!
