Is there a way to use MirrorLink? - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I just bought a new 2015 Subaru Outback and the infotainment center uses MirrorLink. I can't figure out how to get the LG G3 to work with it. Is there any way to get this phone to work or do I need to sell this phone and buy a different model? I just got this phone 2 weeks ago . Thanks guys

Have you tried in Miracast and search for device. I have wdtv live and it is working.

Go to settings-share & connect to turn on miracast. You can also add miracast to quick tiles settings.

Thanks! Will try that

AllshareCast Dongle S/W update today

I got a notice to download the "AllshareCast Dongle S/W Update" to version LJ02 today. I don't have an AllshareCast dongle and I didn't even know that this app was installed on my phone. I'm wondering why they've pushed it out to everybody (I assume), since I imagine that only a tiny number of people have the app. Seems like it would make sense to install it only for people who actually have the dongle.
I'm thinking about uninstalling or freezing it. Has anybody else received it? Any thoughts?
I received the update last night around 130 am eastern........ Had no clue what it was. I am going to delete in a few minutes

It's supposed to allow the GS3 to update the software on the Allcast dongle that you can attach to TVs and such for device mirroring.

The update is showing as not compatible with my SGS3 if I look at it on the Play Store. Dunno if it's a region thing or the fact I'm rooted with stock?
I'm keen to try this update on my Allshare dongle. Would anyone be able to extract the APK for this update?

Are you on LH9? It seems to only work on LH9 and LI5.
It's not an ATT GS3, so it's not got that firmware on it, but is the latest stock for my region, as far as I know (UK).
I was hoping the APK alone might still work, as it appears to be updating the Allcast dongle itself, rather than being tied to anything on the phone, hardware-wise.
Perhaps Samsung are rolling it out to a select few 'test' firmwares first? I believe I'm on LJ4, but I'm not up on Samsung's firmware terminology - not needed to really stray from rooted stock on this phone.
If you're able to extract the APK, it would be much appreciated

This is a legitimate Samsung update and it is a part of the function that allows you to share the screen with Dlna enabled devices such as blue ray players, wdtv (and other streaming boxes) and hdtv with the function.

Are you sure about that? What you're describing sounds like "AllShare Play" which is a completely different app. Where did you get your information that this app has some connection to DLNA?
I have been using the all share dongle. It is just as described as above. I mirror my phone thru the dongle to and TV with a HDMI port. Or Samsung devices. Play videos games whatever. All share play let's you remote control devices from your phone. All share dongle does work thru some type of dlna service from what I read on Samsung site and other places.
I was using this feature before the update was put out. It now shows up as a installed app. Before the update it was just something you could turn on in settings and still is.
It's the pre configured scan portion for the $90 wifi dongle that you buy to connect to hdmi port on projectors and hdtv displays and or the software for your computer that allows you to share via wifi or Internet.
I bought the MHL connection and carry a cable so when I am in hotels I watch what I want (netflix, Hulu) while the phone charges.
But the address of the developer is legit.

I'm sure that the update is legit. I just want to avoid confusion and misinformation about what it's for:
The Allshare Cast Dongle app supports the Allshare Cast Dongle
The Allshare Play app provides DLNA connectivity to DLNA-capable devices
I believe that the Allshare Cast Dongle does not use DLNA and that this update has no relationship to the Allshare Play app or to DLNA capability. If anybody has good evidence to the contrary, please post it.
That being said, my guess is that this new update being pushed out is useless to the great majority of us who don't have the dongle.
I'm pretty sure All Share Cast is Samsung's version of Miracast.

That's exactly what it is, I don't think the dongle uses DLNA at all.
I've found that this update has been changed to be compatible with my phone (stock UK GS3) over the last few days. It originally was shown as not compatible.
It basically prompts you to update your Allshare Cast dongle firmware when you next connect to it. It updates the dongle firmware - wirelessly - to version LJ02, which appears to have made the dongle connection much more stable, and quicker to establish.
OK, so I installed the update, then uninstalled it when I saw that it was useless for me. Now, I am getting a perpetual update notice in Google Play. Does anybody know a way to make the update notice go away without actually installing the app? The only way I can think of is to install it and then freeze it, but that seems like a waste.

Why do you believe that the email address is legit? If you go to the "Samsung Mobile Print" app in google playstore the developers email is mprint.sec@samsung.com

I just had a quick back and forth with Samsung. It is Not a official app. All official app can be found at www.Samsungapps.com.
Edit: seems that Samsung isn't sure it is or not.... They talked with someone else who says that it is valid. XDA has it marked as bloatware that can be removed.
Edit2: Lookout Security says they've been asked about it before and "We have encountered this in the past and Samsung has stated that this is their app via our contact." I'm requesting it be confirmed.
Edit3: A second person at Samsung support says it's not official and a 3P app.
It CAN be un installed with TI. First detach it from the market and then uninstall. It's actual name is com.sec.fwupgrade so don't be alarmed when it says that. I will be sending it to a couple of security vendors to include in malware lists and questioned Samsung why they have not had the app removed.

Looking for a wireless solution similar to Samsung all share.
I don't know if one but if you hear be sure to tell me too.
And unless Samsung changed All Share since I had my epic touch you couldn't wireless mirror. It only would let you do videos, audio, and images wirelessly. Please correct me if I am wrong but I am pretty sure on this.
I think what the poster is referring to is wirelessly mirroring everything like browsing the net and playing games.
To add to this, I saw a Korean video of someone demonstrating the optimus g on a tv while using the phone wirelessly. So it is possible. I don't know what app it was but I don't remember a cord. If I find the video I will post the link.
Edit: Here is the link. I see no wire.

I have a Netgear Miracast/Intel WiDi display adapter connected to my tv. The OG picks up the Netgear as a compatible adapter and seems ready to output to it wirelessly but when I tell it to connect, nothing happens. The OG says it is connecting but never actually does. I noticed though that the instructions the phone displays says to either connect the LG Miracast dongle or turn on the Miracast feature on the tv. So potentially a LG Miracast donlge exists that may allow for the use of mirroring the OG or maybe some LG tvs have this feature builtin and it can be used that way.

The Jelly Bean 4.1 update might add full compatibility. I would wait a week for the update and see if it's still giving you trouble, it might be a bug they have to fix.

I upgraded to JB and now when I try to use Miracast with my Netgear PTV3000, it works initially but disconnects after about 2 minutes every time. Also, when streaming HD video over Miracast, its now initially very jerky/choppy (lots of dropped frames), though it eventually smooths out but then as mentioned above, it disconnects. I had no such issues with ICS (everything worked fine) so I think the Miracast streaming/disconnect problems are due to some issue with the stock JB ROM and not my Netgear adapter.

Miracast support

I know Google dropped Miracast awhile ago, but I really really need it. Chromecast just isn't cutting it. Via build.prop (additions below), I've been able to see the Miracast device but it won't connect. Occasionally I'll even see my homescreen pop up, but it will immediately disconnect. I remember having this problem with an HTC 10 and it had to do with the wifi setting being in battery saver mode. I'm currently unlocked with Magisk on 8.1.0.
Has anyone been successful in getting Miracast to work??
build.prop modifications:
persist.debug.wfd.enable=1
wlan.wfd.hdcp=disable
persist.sys.wfd.virtual=1
I've not heard anyone getting it to work on the Pixel XL 2. Other than I saw this post in the Nitrogen thread here
Just use All Cast. You will need to pay for it, I think it's like $5, but I've been using it for years. Works great and with Chromecast and pretty much anything that allows DLNA. I cast to two TV's, my Nexus Player, XBOX, etc. using it.

Unfortunately I need to it mirror my screen, not just play media. Thanks though!
Hi folk, please I need mirror my Pixel 2 XL on TVs for my job. I've Chromecast ultra but it doesn't work with P2XL (it seems some technical issue made by 8.1.0) in the meanwhile I'm waiting for fix by big G do you know if All cast can do this job?

This might sound nuts, but is that Chromecast Ultra using a wired network connection? I have no idea the cause but i've had issues with some devices (a samsung tablet for example) connecting to the Chromecast Ultra when it was plugged into the wired connection, often just insta dropping, but it worked flawless when they both were using wireless. Other devices like a Nexus 6p connected perfectly in both network configurations.
Any idea which custom ROMs support Miracast besides Nitrogen OS Oreo? I really need the screen mirroring ability to a windows 10 laptop.

Cast display of P2XL Magisked on external monitor

Hi folk, as title is there a way to cast/mirror display (video and sound) of my P2XL Magisked on external monitor?
I need it for my job
Thank you
I'm not shure what you mean by Magisked, but you need a Chromecast on your monitor/TV/projector
Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using XDA Labs
You're right! I didn't explained it! Being Magisked it means like It's rooted so I could have an easier/allowed way to do it!
Anyway, so the only way is using Chromecast?
Because I've it (Chromecast ultra) but I don't have WiFi at home so I can't use it.
Do you have an idea to use an alternative way?
I thought so, but as far as I know there is no other way. The pixel also doesn't support HDMI on the USB port as far as I know.
Maybe you can use your phone as a hotspot.
Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using XDA Labs
Atom is correct. Here's a Pixel 2 issues & ideas thread here
Also I remind problems between P2XL and CU with Oreo. Right?
Few months ago I tried to connect them but didn't work. Do you know if now is it working? (I'm not at home now because job and my CU is there so I can't test it)
I use wifi hotspot on my phone to connect to chromecast to project the phone onto the screen. Really a complicated way of doing something which should be so simple.

I'm not using any cable, I'm doing wireless projection and it works great
oh didn't read it works gor honornview 20 for you.
I'm having the same problem on my mate 20 pro, I was able to connect the phone to my LG smart TV wirelessly before and now my mate 20 scans and finds my TV, disables and enables WiFi again but does not connect the phone to the TV. Please let me know if you have found a solution to this.
Works fine for me, I have a LG B7 OLED. I have to go to the input menu on the TV and enable screen share (or mirror or wireless display, I can't recall the exact name but you'll know when you see it ), otherwise the phone will not find the TV. Works the same way both for my Mate 10 Pro (since Pie update) and Mate 20 X
I'm using huawei mate 20x, forever searching for easy projection which my friend using huawei nova 5t is able to search and connect to the tv in my house.
