I really like the idea of some of the features from paranoid android. halo, pie, and extended desktop are the 3 features I wanted to use most on a daily bases. The problem for myself was that on the ports gps didn't work neither did wifi AP or samsungs smart dock which i use daily, not only that but Samsungs rom and kernel are more programmed for the phone itself as apposed to an aosp rom(which means better performance or so i'm told). So what i have done is used a few apps to replicate the features I want from paranoid android on my Touchwiz rom(cleanrom 4.7).
1. halo: To get this feature I used an app called floating notifications. It's not as feature rich as halo but it can display the text of my notifications like sms and gmail and I can click on them to open the app.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2263987&nocache=1&z=4138043767306953
2. Pie: I used lmt launcher, I assume most people are familiure with it by now. If not check out the link below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330150
3. extended desktop: This one is a little tricky, i used hide bar by good mood droid (GMD). This doesn't just hide the bar it shutdowns that process making it unusable. Plus resents must be tied into that process because I can't use that either. To help not being able to access the toggles and other info in my notification shade I used an app called glovebox, which is a side bar app. I put some widgets in it for weather and toggles for easy access. Losing the ability to use resents isn't that bad I can deal with it but I use next and previous app in lmt launcher to help
get around.

So what does everyone think?
*I would like to thank all of the developers of these various apps. The flexibility of android is what makes it great.
I dunno about #2 but the first couple would be best solved with a new rom. Flash clean rom 4.9

Floating notifications is nothing like halo unless they have a hidden option to open the entire app in a pop up then floating notifications shouldnt be there

Right I know that, It won't display the app but my notifications that normally show up in my notification shade show up in the app floating notifications.
Looked through the Q&A thread, can't find a thread similar enough. Here goes.
I'm back to PA after almost a year. I've enjoyed Sony's Z1 and Z2. Now I got my hands on Oppo's Find 7 and after a quick taste of ColorOS, I'm enjoying PA 4.6b6.
A lot has changed since 3.99!!
Here's my questions after all my rambling:
- where are the per-app DPI settings? I loved that feature!!
- how do I turn Halo/Hover off permanently? Chrome keeps appearing in windowed mode. Also, any app launched from the notification pane. I've tried "blacklisting" apps in the Settings>Apps section, but every app PA feels like rendering in windowed mode, keeps appearing in windowed mode...
- I'm getting com.android.process.systemui errors. Mostly in Find 7, hardly any on grouper (Nexus 7 2012). Any app known for upsetting PA?
- I'm looking for ways to change the resolution (DPI) of my Find 7; with ROM Toolbox, I edited build.prop, but there is no ro.sf.lcd_density option. Can I just add it?
- Settings > Display > Advanced > Gesture shortcuts promise gestures when the screen is turned off: double tap to wake, circle shape to launch the camera, V-shape to turn on flashlight and two-finger swipes for music players. Only the double taps that turn on the screen actually work.
Hope it doesn't sound like I'm complaining too much. I really enjoy PA and it's the best ROM around!!!
Keep up the amazing work!

Hover/halo is not the floating window. Hover is simply the notifications that show from the top. Floating window issue with chrome is a google problem on any rom that supports floating mode.
There are no per app DPI settings. This was never ported forward for KitKat.
FC's are probably related to card stack recents. Reset the on the spot preference for recents and use normal KitKat recents.
Build prop editor has always worked fine for me. That line does indeed exist in the build prop.
Don't know about find7, but the one plus one shares the same gestures and works perfectly.

Thanks for getting back to me.
I'm getting a lot of problems
com.android.process.systemui force closes several times a day
as stated, Chrome refuses to go into full screen, it's always windowed.
during calls (inbound and outbound), the screen turns off as per the sensor, but never turns on again until call is over.
if the screen doesn't turn off, the touch display still becomes unresponsive, so I can't end calls.
I'm guessing somewhere down the line I didn't do a completely clean install.
I'm curious about this, since Oppo is one of the officially supported devices, according the Paranoid Android site.
Chrome bug is a problem with Google on any ROM that supports floating mode. The fix is to use chrome beta now because google fixed it there.
Please revert back to an earlier build. Beta4 should be solid for you

I have got this weird problem with the Nexus 5x. When I install a new app it asks for permissions and I can't tap allow but I can tap deny. It is not a problem with the touch since I have tried in landscape and portrait mode. Everytime I have to manually go to settings and allow permission(from settings) for each app I install. I'm running marshmallow with June security patch. Very irritating. Any fix?
For me (Nexus 5) it started right after I installed android 6.0 June patch. For the moment can't find any workarounds only manually opening app settings and allowing permission

do you use any app that works via overlays? for example an app that dyes your screen in the evening/at night?
such an app, to my knowledge, would trigger a security feature of android that would prevent the user from accepting, say, installation confirmation.

Nope. I haven't used any app like that on this devwce till now. (Eg.screen filter)
EDIT: Thanks for your keyword (screen overlay)!. It is a problem called 'screen overlay' which is a common issue in marshmallow. These links gave me the solution.

I am having this same problem since latest update, its really annoying i can hit deny but not allow! How do we fix this crap! My stock phone isnt working right whats up with that?
Other kinds of overlay can be the "chat bubbles" from Facebook Messenger or Flynx tabs.

Just checked the Google Nexus forum and they say that there's an app called "File Manager" from Cheetah Mobile that it's causing this issue. Check if this is what's happening to you too and remove that app.

For me it's Lux, which also uses overlays. I have to pause it every time for things like this.
I had the same problem yesterday. As far as I know, I don't use any app that can cause the "screen overlay" problem, anyway it seems that clearing cache and dalvik solved the problem for me, at least for now..
EDIT: never mind, problem reappeared. I had to switch off all the apps in the "draw on other apps" menu..
EDIT 2: found the culprit: gravity screen.
Mine is velis auto brightness i believe
In my case it was the File Manager extension. Go to settings -> search for "draw over other apps" -> disable it for File Manager.
Potentially it is any app the draws over app. Just go into app permissions and write down every non google app that asks for draw over other app permission. Then disable all of them to see if the problem goes away. Then reenable one by one until the problem comes back.
In MTC19Z they no longer have the Allow permission that can't be tapped. Instead they have a warning that it won't continue until you disable the app that is drawing over screen (but they don't tell you which app that is). It is slightly less confusing, but equally annoying to have to figure out which app that is, then to turn off the offending app each time, then re-enable it.
Facebook Messenger bubbles are overlay
I don't think it's overlay
If it was an overlay it would be over the whole screen, but I can actually press the "Deny" button.
Anyway I disabled Twilight, the only app I have with overlay - no results
BTW, if your Nexus rolled off of it's 18 months support - it's time to install a custom ROM before the planned obsolescence machine kicked in

What you describe is exactly the behavior with overlay after june update. I don't think it is the overlay per se, but a bug in the warning mechanism blocking your button.
In july update they changed to a promot that links you to the overlay permission page.
i am also having the same problem..using honor 8...can't click on allow permission..
With the introduction of Android 11, Task Changer no longer functions. I despise Android's native iOS-style task switcher. If I wanted my phone to function like an iPhone with iOS gesture garbage and UI copycats I would have bought an iPhone. It's especially annoying when I open the switcher to swipe away the current app only to realize it automatically scrolled to an app beside it and I've instead swiped away the app I wanted to switch to instead closing the current one. Not only does this do the exact opposite of what I wanted, it makes things even worse because I now have to reopen the app I wanted to switch to. Depending on what that is, text fields, progress, etc can be lost and require several minutes to restore. Blah blah you get the picture. It sucks. Many people must agree with me or Task Changer wouldn't exist as a first party app, let alone at all.
Tl;dr and the actual question, Is there anything out there that can be used to substitute the functions of Good Lock's Task Changer until Samsung updates it to work with the latest software? I've looked but I haven't been able to find anything. In addition to this question I've noticed that the navigation gestures don't work at all 70% of the time and require the gesture hint lines to be enabled in order for them to work reliably. Is this related to Good Lock not being updated which would otherwise smooth that out, or is it a general software bug? I only ask because I've had Good Lock's Task Changer active ever since the S8+ Pie update, which was two phones ago, so I've avoided the stock task switcher like the plague until now.
Wait a bit as Samsung should update it soon.
Any more I don't update any OS I like and if I do it's only after lots of positive feedback exists.
Still happily running Pie and W7X64, lol.

I used to rock the same boat. I have no idea why I strayed from that methodology this one time but I regret it. Maybe it was the notification history feature, but that's definitely not worth it considering a lot of things are now broken. Honestly with everything that's wrong with it it feels like I was given a beta version of the OS someone marked as stable only because it doesn't kernel panic. Not being able to reliably use the iOS-style navigation gestures that were forced upon me is a pretty big deal. You'd think people testing the software would realize that the single most used - and arguably most important - thing in the OS (back, home, and task switcher swipe-up gesture) doesn't work properly.

Android has the Windows Syndrome bad... mixed in with the Apple Swine Flu
Try One Handed Operation+, lol if it loads the new OS that is. It's gestures are reliable.
Low battery, resources use and rock solid stable.
I'm also very frustrated.
When bringing up the app switcher there is no longer an "apps" button that pops up a list of my installed app icons which I can then long press on and drag to open them in split screen, pop up view, or just open them regularly. It's just a blank screen now with only the apps I have open on it. Was that a feature of Good Lock's Task Changer too? I absolutely need that back. Multitasking is a nightmare and a half without it.

No, that was a feature of the normal app switcher. I personally don't like the goodlock one. I'm glad I'm on an S10 and still get options lol.
I couldn't agree more with OP. I get that some people want this unproductive annoying deck of card recent apps design, but why on earth isn't there more layouts to choose from in the settings somewhere. I've usually used custom ROMs, and most of them had these settings (I mostly used slim recents and I loved it), but not recently due to some apps' aggressive anti root, anti custom rom policies like banking apps, f***Ing snapchat, etc. I was so happy when I found out about Nice Lock, but then Sammy nagged about updating and I did it to my not-so-big surprise it messed up everything. Sorry I have no good answer here, just had to agree and ventilate.
Task changer is now an option in the Home Up app. Updated today.
But it's not working on my Note 10+ running latest firmware.

Seems like a error "fix" to task changer.
I downloaded Home up, from apkmirror website Saw 2 x versions available, with today's date.
Installed second update (Version: 2.0.01.11 (200100011)... as it stated there was a fix for Task changer that was force closing.
Big disappointment, as there is only really 2 new options. The normal list one, and the extra ones
Grid and Stack.
Good luck.

Try the updated version up Home Version: 2.0.01.11 (200100011)
Should work now as the updated version fixes Task changer that was force closing.
Just downloaded it. What happened to all the choices? There's only 3 now. I had liked the grid view where I can swipe up and down. Now I can only swipe right.

In my case I've sideloaded Home up module, from apkMirror website, the updated version of Home up ....version..... " .11" and my task changer is working ok.
See screenshot
Good luck
After sideloading the .11 update it still tells me to install the One UI Home Market update. So Home Up's Task Changer isn't working either.

This worked, but as someone pointed out earlier there are only three options for the task changer which don't even change the layout at all. Unfortunately this isn't useful, as it only moves the recent apps closer together or shrinks them. For now I guess it's back to waiting for the task changer app itself to be updated.

Fine Lock says Task Changer will be updated in March.
Found some Developer Options settings for "freeform" windows but so far I've only got an app in a floating window but as soon as I try to get another app running on the main screen that floating window closes.
Got a tip from someone else that if I open two different apps in sequence and set them each to freeform, then when I open them both from the home screen they will open up in freeform, so somehow the functionality is there but obviously not working conveniently.
I had OxygenOS on Android 13 before. It has an awesome feature: true floating window that you can run an app in, and then run whatever apps you want full screen under that. What needs to be fixed in LOS 20 have such capability?
I looked through the LOS github for "free-form" but didn't come up with what I thought was significant.
