I remember the Epic 4G and S3 all came with white backgrounds. We had to create/flash ROMs to invert the themes.

It's because Google and Samsung are migrating to the "Material" or "Flat look which is lighter with less color contrast.

hi guys..
have you ever compared a black xperia s and a white xperia s?
well, with full brightness and all the display settings being the same, the black one shows deeper and better colors..
and i mean across the entire UI..
does anyone know why?
i have had the liberty to compare 3 white and 2 black ones..
all the three white show same washed out colors and the black ones show the same better color and contrast..
im just being curious..

That's because a human's eye considers white colors to have less contrast than black colors. It's an illusion. In fact, a phone with white body has the same screen contrast with black one. Don't worry, it's just our mind is playing with us LOL
#wind up mode on#
It's because white is for girls
#wind up mode off. Lol#

If you are talking about yellowish tint of white colors, yes its a screen defect that samsung cant get rid of.
I also have that yellow tint as well as many people. You arent the only one. There are some people replaced their phones but no luck still there. It has something to do with amoled production.
Also you will realize that if yiu tilt the phone slightly and look at the screen from angles the whites and gray colors will look normal without tint. This obviously shows its a production thing.
There are other threads with same problem as yours that you can read. Just search...
It's a problem with amoled screens unfortunately. All of them have it unless a kernel is used to adjust the screen.
Have you tried disabling "Auto adjust screen tone" in the display options?

It has nothing to do with that....
It's normal man. LCDs have awful "grey" blacks, with brilliant whites. Samoleds have deep, rich blacks, and tinted whites.

i can clearly see that the white of this phone is much much more warm and yellowish respecting others phones with lcf, but also a galaxy note 4 ( amoled) of one of my friends.
i can't understand why lenovo made this calibration. Of course maybe using it as primary phone you will not notice it after some days, but at the moment it is my secondary phone and every time i switch from lcd to p2's amoled i can clearly see that the white ruins all the colors....into an image.
ps: maybe OVER 50% of brightness the white starts to be "ok..." but under 50... 40% it is not a nice white

but does it interfere with the PURE BLACK? i noticed that there are apps that can "fix" the temperature of the color by adding a LAYER on the screen....
but this layer corrupts the true black.... no more really black but with a tint of blue or yellow ( blue if you try to make colder, yellof if warmer)
i hope you made a real test about it, use the app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gombosdev.displaytester and visualize the BLACK color.
if it is not 100% off the display..... the live display option of your rom is not acceptable

Nup,,black are true blacks(pure black pixels get off),,almoled display does not have pure white they are warm(yellowish)i had set it to cool color (blue)which makes the screen look little white than yellow,,i will compare display with samsung device and check,,buh black are still pure black no yellowish or white tint on black
Sorry for bad English

but did u test? because some tricks to change the temperature of the displays.... are to add a "layer" of color.... and this makes NO MORE TRUE BLACKS on amoled diplays....
Yes,there is noticable difference in white the stock ROM now looks a little yellow but the stock deodexed version has the cool white colour which looks far more beeter that yellowish tint
I have not so idea for the reason behind that may be Lenovo has recalibrated the screen if you want to change the tint you can try various apps that requires root to calibrate screen Colors manually
i found the problem !!!
go in the live display and at the colour calibration menu.
JUST set the green color to 92% and the white will be PERFECT
i noticed tha tis ONLY THE GREEN that destroys the white.... just lowering it to 95 gives a normal warmish white... setting to 90 it is like a normal lcd cold white ... at 92 it is perfect between a warm and cold yellow, the perfect sweet spot.
now i am FINALLY HAPPY with my screen.... and the white written on all the app themed with black substratum, are finally well constrasted with the black..... being pure white
Hey guys I noticed that the A50 screen has this weird thing with its red and green colour , it is too bright and saturated which makes objects with these colours look fake, I have tried changing the display settings but it doesn't help that much. Also , the white colour on this screen has this yellow tinge to it, I have been comparing this screen phone to cheaper lcd panels and found that the colours on the LCD panels are more accurate , I also compared it to other phones with oled screens and got the same results . Do you guys have this issue or is it just a hardware issue with my phone
Welcome to the world of amoled adaptive display.
So are you saying this is normal for Samsung amoled screens? Because I don't see the issue in other brands of oled
You can change screen mode to basic in setting menu

Just go and check in the Samsung store if the other a50 are the same. No one will be able to help you if you don't send a picture of the display or anything.

I also had very vibrant colors but now I am using basic profile and all is good.
Users on average prefer the "fake" HDR feeling of the colors(over saturation). that's why samsung keeps that as the default mode

But if I change to the other 3 colour profiles other than adaptive display , the screen will have an even more noticeable yellowish tint

if you're using the S7 vs the S7+ then it's not surprising, LCDs do not produce blacks like AMOLED.
Superb screen display on Tab S7 using since 2 Months. i have no issues of colors nor any degradation of screen. Being an Amoled fan . I love the perfect blacks on my Old Tab S5E although more.
lot of negative Paid marketing is done against top companies before launch of a flagship device by Rival companies
So I noticed this same green tint issue. Great on the left side and it fades into a greenish tint. I assumed it was the screen but I was playing around with it and it doesn't seem to consistently appear. If I load up the play store, at lower brightness, I see it. When I open the settings menu for the tablet, same grey background and the greenish tint isn't there. The brightness hasn't changed either. I started looking at other grey screens and I see the same thing. I'm not saying it's not an issue but I would think it would be fairly consistent across grey backgrounds at the same brightness. I see it in dark mode in Google apps but not is Samsung apps or even Nova launcher settings. Weird..
I greys are a slightly different shade but the same brightness. The playstore you can see on the right side. Nova settings and one of my live wallpapers settings are both grey and no greenish tint.
Anyone else notice this?

Also, enabling the "blue light filter" severely degrades the black level. I understand it's useful for those who experience eyestrain reading white text on a perfectly black background, hopefully either Samsung or a community member can change it for those who prefer the best blacks while still attenuating the blue colors.
Hello!
I got mine a few days ago and first thing I noticed was a color tint on grey goint to green or yellow, especially on the lower brightness levels. Especially compared with my older Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014) also black ist something like anthracite, but not deep black.
So I downloaded a display test app from Playstore Display Tester, and guess what! Black is really dark black, white is bright white and grey is looking much better with almost no color tint.
Could soomebody else check it?
Btw.: Firmware is T870XXU2BUD2 (Android 11).
