I kind of have a troublesome story. I bought a phone on ebay and activated with freedom pop an MVNO of sprint. I cancel the service after the gigabyte was used. I then tried to activate with sprint and was unable to do so. They said the ESN was in use and could not be activated. I called freedom pop and completely deleted me from the databases and removed my account. I am still having trouble activating the phone. Do you guys have any idea what could be causing this?
What is the actual message or error it gives you when trying to activate? Have you tried dialing ##72786# to do a carrier reset?

My ROM: WICKED X
I'm having the same problem. I Bought a used Sprint S3 and activated it on freedompop. I deactivated the freedompop account. When I check the ESN / IMEI on swappa.com it shows :
Activation Status Clear (Sprint / MVNO)
Device appears to be activation ready.
However Sprint will not activate it. Their system gives an error. I don't know what the specific error is. I put the ESN into Ting.com and it said that it would activate. Interestingly, I bought another used Sprint S3 and did not active it on freedompop. It did activate on Sprint without any problems.
This is the second phone that I've tried this with. The first is a Samsung Victory 4G LTE that I had purchased from freedompop a few months ago. I found the stock Sprint ROM and reflashed it. Took it into the Sprint store and they couldn't activate it. I've reset the phone and done the carrier reset. No joy.
It's starting to look like once a phone gets registered with freedompop, it can't go back to Sprint. Which is sad, because I think a lot of people who try freedompop are going to want to find another service because freedompop is just not reliable.

I tried the same thing. Checked ESN on swappa and ting ESN was clear and ready to activate. I have heard multiple answers.
1. You need a cool down period after freedom pop
2. You can not activate on sprint after flashing to an MVNO
Sprint would also not add the ESN back into there system. I guess it is time to sell phone on ebay as a freedom pop phone. Can phone still be activated on ting or just freedom pop?
I read a thread on Sprint's forums about someone who tried this and succeeded. I pm'd him and he said that he had to open a service ticket with support. Eventually, he found the right person who knew how to add the MEID to the database. It seems when you activate with an MVNO, the MEID gets moved to a different database. And only a few people know how to move it back.
I did check the MEID with ting and it said it would activate.
Personally if you use WIFI a lot and dont use a lot of mobile data i would suggest ting.
They also have tools on their web site to help figure out how much you can expect to pay moving to them. I have had ting for about 6 months now ( after walmart family mobile) and I save money and have better coverage. I have had great experiences with customer service.
If you are inteterested in joining ting send me a PM and i can shoot you a referral and we can both save some money.
Do you know how to create a support ticket on sprints website? I use a lot of data. I don't think ting would work.

Freedompop = bad
I'm still trying to get this phone back to Sprint, but I'm getting worn down. Their tech support is non existent. If the problem can't be corrected by a factory reset, they're lost. Not one of the people that I've talked to so far even knows what freedompop is. I can completely understand why sprint is losing two million dollars a day and their stock is in free fall.
It's so easy for freedompop to move a phone from sprint to MVNO, but it's looking next to impossible to move it back.
I called sprint customer care. They told me to call a sprint repair store to fix my problem. I called a corporate repair store and said it could not be moved back to sprint. I don't see why it is so difficult. Seems like any easy database move.
As I understand it from reading posts on Sprint's forums, the hard part is finding one of the few people at sprint who know how to add the MEID to the database. The people at the stores are not useful beyond doing a factory reset or replacing a battery.

Use myn's warm 2.2 rsl5 it works fine with that rom, just flash it and do what you need to do. Then nandroid back to whatever you are using

So I got this to work but all I get is 1x . Is there anyway to get full 3g?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
The verizon prl should give you full 3g, that's the point of it. If you are only getting 1x, either verizon doesnt have 3g where you are, or you are still on a sprint prl and roaming on verizon, which would only give you 1x.
I try *2 and I just get the Sprint thingy that checks the network. I'm on prl 0001. But this seems like I am still on Sprint.

Go ahead and do this if you really want, i highly recommend against it. All your doing is installing a force roam. If you flash 0001.prl you will always be roaming. I flashed it about 6 months ago, and everything was good for a few months, until sprint sent me a letter saying my account was being cancelled because a certain percentage of my data was roaming. If you look on your contract, even though it may say unlimited roaming, sprint still reserves the right to end your service if you go over 5Gb of roaming data or a certain percentage of your data is roaming.
I did eventually get them to not cancel my account, but my phone number remains on a list of numbers that they monitor that have gone over their roaming within the last 6 months (even though my roaming is supposedly unlimited). They do automated checks of that list and my phone gets turned off about once a week, meaning i have to call and deal with customer service constantly.
Think about whats going on here for a second. Verizon and sprint have agreements that let sprint users roam on verizon 1x services, NOT 3G. Everytime your phone downloads data from a verizon tower verizon sends sprint the bill. Once sprint realizes your phone number is causing them to pay massive fees to verizon theyre going to cancel your account. it doesnt matter if your choose home only in roaming options, because since you have installed a verizon PRL your phone thinks verizon IS home.
I fully understand what I am doing... as long as I stuck with this crappy Sprint service I will use this, and if they do cancel then I will just sign with Verizon directly ...

Are you going for coverage or speed? 00001.prl will probably increase your coverage significantly, it definitely did for me. But as far as speed goes, verizon is definitely slower than sprint. Thats my personal experience and has been confirmed by quite a few studies ive seen online. Also if you use speedtest.net frequently you'll see that with 00001.prl your latency (time it takes the signal to travel) increases dramatically.
So how do you put a sprint PRL back after a few months?

Have you read the Verizon prl thread? It tells you this on the first post. Just flash back to a sense rom (if you already arent) and update the prl through the menu. This will put you back on a sprint prl.
I've never had an issue with sprint busting my chops over roaming... been running prl hack for a long time with roaming data at least up to 5gb with some as high as 10gb..

Did u buy a GSM or CDMA phone. U need to make sure it was the sprint version not the Verizon or the GSM version.

A sprint store should be able to figure it out. If it's a brand new phone I don't see why not.
What plan do you have?
Can't activate on Verizon either
I'm having the same problem-- but with Verizon. Bought it from ebay, in great communication with the seller who is trying to help.
Phone isn't stolen/lost; no outstanding balances on the phone or my plan.
Factory data reset didn't help one bit. Can't activate fully-- just get internet (no calls/texts).

Did you get a new 4g sim card with your new phone? Or a sim replacement? You need to activate the sim card, but as long as its already activated, any device should work.

Yep, this is the third new SIM (LTE) card. Been to both the store and on the phone with Verizon tech reps.
Tech reps say activation is "stuck at the switch" (this is day 3... btw)
should I unroot it? I've already done 2 factory data resets.... Or should I just wait it out?

A lot of custom roms do not have all the required proprietaries needed for such things like sim activation. Or they include them, but do not sign them correctly.

I don't suggest asking them to put it in a display device to activate....i don't think they normally do that and will probably look at you like you have spiders crawling out your nose lol
Just put it on a stock ROM
When i got my nexus it came with liquid on it unlockedrooted
i just flashed the 4.04 stock ROM build that bird man compiled found over at rootzwiki and it got activated
At this point you have the option of putting the official stock 4.04 vzw build on it tho which i would recommend, preferably one without any tweaks, rooted should be fine tho
To the OP, try putting your self on a stock ROM for sprint and you should be gravy
Good luck!
Let us know if it works guys!

I went to a corporate store today to upgrade one of my lines to the Lumia 900, but walked away empty handed.
I was going to upgrade a line and get a micro-sim from my personal line to stick into the Lumia (I have a regular size sim), but the rep told me I would no longer get data on my iPhone if I wanted to switch back and forth between devices. He mentioned that this problem only exists with the iPhone, since it is technically on a different data plan than other devices AT&T carries.
This isn't a huge issue since my iPhone sits in a drawer and is nothing more than a glorified iPod Touch, but I would of course like to use it if the urge strikes me.
Does anyone know if this is true?
Don't quote me 100% but I 99.9% believe you will have to be provisioned on LTE data plan, and then you'll be able to swap SIM's with non-LTE phones. What the rep was telling you (I think) is that you can not use your existing iPhone data pln with LTE devices. Once your data plan provisioned to LTE you should be good to go.
you might have to exchange 4G sim card to get works.

Makes sense, but he told me it was not possible to use both the Lumia and the iPhone. In his defense, he even asked another associate and they said the exact same thing.
So, if I were to switch over to an LTE plan, would I be able to simply pop my SIM back into my iPhone if I were to use it?

You know what, I have a coworker with a 4S I can plug my micro SD in to his iPhone and see what happens.
EDIT:
So we tested his phone, it was a 4 not 4s that takes a micro sim and I put my Lumia Micro sim in his iPhone 4 and he was able to pull up web pages.
I did not Send an SMS but the phone was happy, showed 3G service and was browsing pages and he made a quick test call.
Didn't think about texts till now and hes out of the office.
Tested it and it's working. Swapped back and forth, texted, called, and even did some facetime. Time for the iPhone to hit the junk drawer for another month or so.
Thanks for all of the replies, everyone. Answered my question perfectly.
Has anyone activated and used the Samsung Epic 4G on TracFone.
I was considering buying one of these, and activating it with TracFone, basically just to use for light mobile voice and data usage, and mostly for WiFi browsing.
TracFone claims you can activate a CDMA phone with them, but researching their site is extremely vague, and I was hoping a TracFone user could shed some light.
I was wondering how much it would cost to activate the phone, if you can use it with a third party ROM, and if you can buy a double the minutes card and use it with this phone.
Thanks for any info.

Sounds good. Unfortunately FreedomPop is not available in NJ. I'm curious how FreedomPop delivers its access. TracFone simply buys huge amounts of time from ATT and Verizon, then resells it. FreedomPop sounds like a fantastic deal. Best you can get with TracFone is $7 a month, 60 minutes talk/60 texts/60mb data, and thats only possible if you bought a Triple the Minutes phone.
In my area, you can get either TracFone GSM phone (ATT Network which SUCKS), or TracFone CDMA phone (which is Verizon and is rock solid).
Does FreedomPop operate their own towers or do they simply buy time and resell it?

For those of you using AT&T. Do not update your IMEI at this time and hope that the system doesn't auto update it. LTE is not supported on the OP3. I am currently stuck on 4G due to this problem.
I have opened a ticket to get the OP3 registered. I will date back here.
My ATT service is perfect with LTE.
Update your APN's
Nextgenphone and ATT Phone. The network is blocking LTE access. Your IMEI hasn't updated yet. Mine worked fine for a few hours.
I work in a cor AT&T store. There were features removed when I changed my IMEI. Once AT&T updates their IMEI database it'll be fine.
I've had the phone since noon on Friday and still no issues with AT&T. I have not called to change IMEI.

I am having same problem, my two devices are stuck in HSPA mode. I spent over an hour online chat with AT&T to no resolution. They tried but could not understand the problem. I had the phones activated at corporate store today too. Hopefully this problem gets resolved soon.
Guys don't bother with the att reps. Most of them have no idea what they are doing with an iPhone let alone anything else. The worst thing you can do is call them for help.
I agree with zelendel even though I work for the company. I am sure I'm not the only person who has opened a ticket to the OP3 added. In the mean time if you call customer service and just ask them to have a manager approve adding the nextgenphone apn to your line then it will fix the issue temporarily. I have LTE back for the time being.
How temporarily is the fix? And is there an eta on when att will fix the problem? I will be returning this phone if I can't use LTE on it.
So will this phone be updated and approved to receive LTE in the future by att? This is kind of a major deal if not.

Too late for it to be approved. This is one of the things you learn to deal with when you buy China based devices. They don't get approved by the Fcc which in turn causes issues with LTE and what not.

Pretty sure I know the right APN. What plan are you on that's worth saving...senior talk 200? That's the only plan in the last 10 years that's cheaper than any new plan which all include data. Please don't be a **** because you didn't have a problem. Others will and when they do its nice to help them understand what's wrong.
im on at&t go and it worked out of the box with LTE.
if what the OP said is true, u can get another IMEI that uses a nano sim card and then call att to activate that IMEI with att and then just reinsert the sim into the OP3 without calling, I did not update IMEI either but i do have a little issues with downloading things it switches back and forth quickly between 4+ and LTE but still get good speeds
Just opened my OP3 an hour ago and put my ATT nano sim in.

Called in got the nextgenphone added to my line, LTE came back. The problem with using another IMEI is sooner or later the system will update and you end up with no data.

Changing the IMEI is not only illegal but can also cause other issues with the device it's self.

if what the OP said is true, u can get another IMEI that uses a nano sim card and then call att to activate that IMEI with att and then just reinsert the sim into the OP3 without calling, I did not update IMEI either but i do have a little issues with downloading things it switches back and forth quickly between 4+ and LTE but still get good speeds

The IMEI will be updated when they scan the network which they do from time to time.

So because of you I should expect to see a text from AT&T saying they've detected that I'm using a smartphone and have added an expensive data plan? Great.
Pretty sure you just needed to use the right APN.

Well considering what you are doing is fraud that is on you.
also try to go to the AT&T Phone APN not the ATT Nextgenphone
