Hi all. I am a serious noob to certain rooting stuff so sorry if this post sounds weird. I have a HTC one M8 rooted with Cyanogenmod. Its a great phone, but one thing i noticed after making a nandroid backup of my CM rom was that apparently in recovery mode my TWRP install, and restore does not see zip files. I later found out that TWRP is defaulting on the install and recover screens to my root folder which has none of my backups. Essentially, I can't get into the traditional internal storage folder which has all my zip files and downloads. Is there any way I can get around it and access my traditional internal storage again? I should note that there is nothing really wrong with the phone, I can boot into it and it works fine. I simply cannot access my traditional storage though in recovery.

Wait. Are you using TWRP to try to restore a CWM backup? You can't do that. They are non-compatible.
EDIT: sorry I misread what you posted. You can direct TWRP to either internal or external sd by cliucking wher it says "storage: internal/external" at the top when you are in recovery.
thanks but..
thanks but the issue is twrp says my internal storage is 0mb. I will double check, but i should note that i am not having a deleted OS issue that other people with 0mb storage problems have. My phone is fine its just the storage that acts works ok TWRP recovery

TWRP has some bug where it can't mount internal storage. Try to re-install TWRP, and the latest version, and see if that helps.
Its seems your right about TWRP having a bug as I just went into recovery and I could freely access all the internal storage files and see all my backups.

So I have been using Rom Manager/Clockwork recovery since I got the S3 (sprint),
I have all my backups on the sd card (external). It asked me to update Rom Manager/new clockwork mod for Sprint,
so I did. Now I can not see any of my sd card contents and backups. In Clockwork recovery I go to backups and see none,
I go to install zip from sd card and it shows all the files in the phones INTERNAL system memory, not my external sd card,
I maybe I am a noob (not really), but I can not find out how to get clockwork recovery to see the external sd card instead of the
internal, so I can get at my files/backups. Maybe it is a problem since I have the 32gb S3 instead of the 16gb standard?

Go to the bottom of the menu in ROM Manager and choose the all versions (or something like that). You should have the option to flash an earlier version of CWM. Choose the earliest version, flash it, reboot into recovery, and you should be fine. I would give you version numbers, but I have moved to TWRP for recovery.
Just use twrp its better in every way
Well thanks, kinda. Going back to the earliest version of clockwork DOES allow me to see the files on the SD card (external),
but now under ext sd/clockworkmod/backup/ ALL my backups say the name with / after it such as 2012-08-16-Stock/
when I chose one, it says no files found, Like it is looking at a directory instead of the backup file which should NOT have a / after it.
Any ideas?
Yeah, but you can't use your old clockwork/nandroid backups with twrp,
so I would lose everything!
Ok, I got it to work using the oldest clockwork recovery and not being an idiot.
Once I was able to see the external sd card, I was trying to install my backup from zip.
When I went to backup and restore and restored it from there, it allowed me to chose the
correct file and it worked. And yes, twrp looks slick and allows choosing internal or ext sd,
if I had a new phone without a bunch of stock and cyano backups already in clockwork,
I would go with twrp. But twrp SHOULD make the clockwork mod backups compatible, or offer
a converter program, because who can really switch if they can't use any of their old backups?

Copy those CWM backups over to your computer (rename them as needed to be able to remember what they are). Install TWRP and start using it for your backups. If you ever need/want to go back to one of those earlier backups you can always go flash CWM over TWRP and re-install them. If you want to, you could even do a restore in CWM then flash TWRP, then back it up in TWRP, back to CWM, back to TWRP, etc., until you have them all in both formats. Depending upon how many backups you have that may or may not be all that time consuming.

Nice idea, but CWM has been the standard and reliable for so long. I don't know if I would trust my
backups to TWRP yet. But maybe I could start using it and just save a couple old backups one of Cyano and one stock.
I don't want any black screens, bricks, or problems because I don't know ADB and am not great with problems/odin.
Will TWRP give me more or less headaches than Clockwork witch I am used to? And can you run it from a phone app like
Rom Manager runs clockwork?
Thanks guys
Gotta admit, I'm fairly new to TWRP myself, but I am not aware of an integrated app like ROM Manager and CWM. As far a reliability, I know TWRP has been around a while and while it may not be as widespread as CWM I trust most of the people who I checked with who say that TWRP is not only as good as CWM, but even better. I know it takes a while to get used to a new UI and program, but with time I am sure I will feel as comfortable with TWRP as I was with CWM.
no sdcard (microsd)
same issue, have tried a variety of different rom manager versions. Want to do a full wipe/clean flash but need the card working for the rom and gapps after the wipe.
Any suggestions?
Had to get card formatted fat32.. All good!

The recovery is mounting the external SD, but my internal isn't showing anything. I updated twrp via goo, however since I'm using jellybam I think it flashed att's recovery image. I've tried to flash the tmo image back but it still doesn't Mount even after checking it in the options. What can be done to fix?
Thanks in advance
Solved
Hmm so when I flashed the newest version of twrp, my internal SD was moved to my data/media folder. Now my backups aren't visible to restore if I wanted. How can I retrieve them?
can't seem to backup
ok so ive been looking at these forums for years and somehow always found the answer until now. I am completely stuck and can't figure out why my twrp recovery won't backup at all either and is not recognized whatsoever. I am going to try and flash cwm and see if it will work.
I after searching and searching I finally found an answer. I flashed the cm 10.1 rom in the att forum to check out 4.2.1 first hand. In the thread there's a file you can flash to revert your storage to the way twrp reads it now since 4.2 has multi user support, but it didn't work on my end. My backups are still on my internal SD but unrecognizable in twrp. I ordered a new micro SD to throw my backups on so i can retry. We'll see if it works...
Here's the twrp article explaining it all in full
http://teamw.in/DataMedia
I've read everything I can about my issue and not sure what to do. I was no longer able to install apps because internal storage reported it was full. I went through all the normal "fixes" that I read about here and then gave up and did a factory reset. Now my phone reports:
Internal Memory:
Total space: 9.62 GB
Available space 1.01 GB
What are my options?
Thanks, Maren

Most likely you have some nandroid backups in your internal storage/memory taking up all that space.
Use a file manager and find a CWM and or TWRP folder, inside those folders you will see nandroid
backups which you have made at one time or another. When you find the backups, just copy it to your
computer if you want to keep them or you can simply delete them .........
Good luck!
Download My Drives from the playstore, it will show you all the big files on your phone....and you can delete them

(system root)/data/media/clockworkmod is where CWM backups are stored
(internal storage)/TWRP is where the TWRP backups would be.

Thanks for reply. I use TWRP and all those backups (5 right now) are on external card because that is what I choose. Incidentally I did try to restore to the earliest one of those backups and same issue with internal memory.

Is that the same as Device Storage Analyzer? (My Drives did not show up in playstore.) If so, it's helpful...thanks.
Shows 8.72 GB occupied with the biggest sized file was 501 MB. Next was 52.70 MB. I removed them but don't think all of these will add up to 7GB that's missing.
Yep. I use TWRP and I always choose external memory for backup. Checked anyway, and not there. Thanks for the suggestion.

Yes it was ^.^ and glad to be of help. I think your datas were just jacked up lol
Though if all comes to fail, you just have to close your eyes and ODIn if you cannot find the source of the issue. What I did when i first got my GS4 and since than I have been keeping up with the storage and know when its acting funky lol

On the Odin note; being that you have your backups saved to your external SD, download time aside, you should be able to zip right through the stock restore and be back to whatever you're on with all 9GB storage like you'd never restored within 10-15 minutes. Just saying, don't be afraid of it. It's pretty quick, simple, and painless.

I used twrp to recovery back to stock from AOSP and now I am having issues with my apps downloading or saving. Any ideas?
Things I have tried:
Tried uninstalling/reinstall,
wiped the cache in the rom,
wipe the dalvik cache/CACHE in twrp
, and fixing permissions in twrp.
NO LUCK Any ideas besides reflashing the stock rom?
TO THREAD CREATOR: Sorry to jump in on your question and everything man. Don't mean to disrespect or nething.
I have had this problem since 4.4.2 after a restore. I checked in titanium backup and if I try to change the backup location to the internal card it will say that it is not writable. I do not know why but it will do this on stock touch wiz roms after a restore on 4.4.2 and up.
there is hope....

I had this same problem and solved it using TWRP v2.8.3.0 Wipe/Format Data. I installed a NEW OS (not a backup file) and voila. hope this helps.

After many program installations and various rom setups, I want to free up space on my Internal SD Card by doing a full wipe. Is there a way to do this and be able to load a rom?

Stock recovery wipes everything but TWRP preserves the "virtual" sdcard. There might (or might not) be some advanced option in TWRP to wipe the virtual sdcard, never looked.
Twrp has the wipe option, I knew that already. I wanted to find a way to use it and still be able to flash a rom. In any case I figured out how to transfer a file to the device with the ADB push command after getting adb to recognize the nexus. Will attempt all this in a couple of days.

I guess I don't understand what you mean then as by default twrp doesn't reset your virtual sdcard for a wipe, so whichever ROM update.zip files you had on the virtual sdcard would survive a wipe in twrp, so there would be no reason to copy them back over.
I guess maybe your question had nothing to do with wipe, and you were really asking how to transfer a custom ROM install file to the tablet so twrp can install it. You can do that using adb or mtp or just download the file using the browser on the tablet.
In advanced wipe there is a box for internal storage... and TWRP supports OTG so you can connect a flash drive formated to FAT32 that contains the Zip you wan't to flash and flash it like any other file.

This is what I mean. My virtual SD Card (data/media) is bloated with files I want to get rid of. So I wanted to wipe internal storage to clear all files and reinstall a rom. Using ADB or USB-OTG as iamezio says, I can transfer a rom zip back to the internal storage after wiping it to be able to install a rom. When I first made this post I wasn't sure how to do this.

Well, when you do a wipe from twrp, it is just removing all the files using a delete operation, which you can also do yourself.
The part of your question that seemed pertinent to me is you wanted TWRP to see your ROM file, which is the same question one would have if they asked how do I install a ROM.

twrp will wipe you internal storage with that option you saw in advanced settings. i actually did that one day by mistake and had to sideload the files to get back up and running. if that's what you are ready for, then go for it, it'll do it...

Hi, Topu baksh...
Just a thought, but where did you perform the TWRP restore from? In other words, where is your TWRP backup located...
...on an external SD-Card or on the devices own internal storage?
The reason I'm asking is because TWRP backups can get pretty big and can consume huge amounts of storage space, and if it's located on your devices internal storage, it's entirely possible you may have just simply run out of space, and which may explain your inability to copy anything or download anything.
Your device would be too full to do anything with, and all because your TWRP backup files are occupying most of your devices internal storage.
-----------------------------------
Anyhow, as I say, just a thought ~ might be worth looking into, and with perhaps a view to deleting your TWRP backup, maybe.
Good luck and hope this helps?.
Rgrds,
Ged.
p.s. - your English is perfectly fine?.
You sure you restored a backup intended for the "eye"?
You can try the option in TWRP "Wipe" section to "Format data". This sometimes resolves issues with data corruption preventing you from writing to the internal storage.
But you will still need a valid stock ROM (TWRP backup) to restore.
