Moved up from G2 to Desire yesterday and was trying to replicate how I had my G2 (and liked it). I noticed straight away that the weather widget from HTC is now limited to purely locations pre installed on the Desire.
On the G2 you could pick your "current" location where it would open google maps and you could if you wanted you zoom & scroll to your "desired" (no pun intended) location & pick virtually anywhere on the globe and use that.
Just wondering why on the updated UE with more advanced ROM I can't do this?? So my question is to those who know alot more about the backend of these apps/phones, can the location data I have created on my G2 be located easily enough and possibly moved over to my desire??
Thanks
From the manual.
If you consented to turn location service on when you were setting up your phone for the first time, you’ll see the weather of your current location right on the HTC Clock widget of your Home screen.
You can also use the Weather application to check the current weather and weather forecasts for the next four days of the week. In addition to your current location’s weather, this application also displays the weather forecasts of other cities around the globe.
If you declined to turn location service on during first-time setup of your phone, turn location service on in your phone’s settings so that you’ll be able to check your current location’s weather on the HTC Clock widget, Weather application, and the Weather widget. Press HOME > MENU, tap Settings > Location, and then select the Use wireless networks check box.
Location services are on and it works as described for the "current" location. My question was with regard to other user defined locations, which I could do with the previous version of the widget on the android OS on my G2.
This way I can check the weather say at a destination later in the day which isn't contained within the database within the handset.
Is this what you are looking for, although it sounds as though you are limited to the cities listed on the hand set.
Adding a city to the Weather screen
Add more cities to the Weather screen so you can instantly check the weather forecasts in these cities. In addition to your current location, the Weather screen can display up to 15 cities.
1.Press HOME, and then tap Weather.
2.On the Weather screen, tap +.
3.Enter the location you want to add on the text field. As you enter text, the list is filtered to show the possible locations based on the letters you entered.
4.Tap the desired city to select it.
It annoys me that they still don't let it access the weather service online and use your location from there as my location is still no there it was the same with the hero i had.
The locations you can add aren't brilliant I have admit.
I was searching for Basingstoke (someone has to) and couldnt find it until I noticed it under 'Baskingstoke' !
I'm in Reading and it can't find any weather data, it's because we don't have weather here see. That's what it is.
I emailed them over this back when i had my htc hero like 6 months ago and still no fix to this issue.

I can get Reading OK on mine?
I have exactly the same problem, it wouldnt let me puck my own location...except the one picked by the phoneitself. For instance I live in bromley and when HTC set bromley as current location, there is no data available, however If I look for bromley myself and and add as a second location, the weather infor is available for that but the phone will not let me set that one as my current location.
sometimes the current location is unavailable for some reason, however if you add another city and use exactly the same location as for current location it will work fine and then you can set it as your default weather status
I like "Jabbypants" have emailed HTC as from what I can see it is a backward step not allowing us to use the map to pinpoint locations we want to know the weather for.
Maybe if enough email we may get a response?? Or somekind soul from HTC that reads these post will put up an "unofficial fix"??

I have tried that but it did not work..
I too had an oddity with the weather widget last night.
I'm in Leeds in the UK. That's the Leeds in Yorkshire, not in Kent. The weather widget only offers one Leeds, but doesn't state which one it is.
That seemed fair enough until last night. The weather for current location (Leeds) was different from the manually added city (Leeds also). I'm talking major difference - one said snow/rain with 2 degrees and the other said sunny at 8 degrees.
I'd like to figure out which Leeds is actually the one listed for manual selection. It obviously recognises both locations as showed the different weather for them both, but only lets you choose one manually.
Dae.
Edit. It's doing it again now. Leeds(current) shows 7 degrees, sunny and tomorrow (Monday) at 12 degree high with rain. Manually added Leeds shows current 8, cloudy with tomorrow being 11 degree high with Sun!!!
Well I have had a response from HTC, directly via email and via facebook.
Basically the "pinpoint" method employed on earlier android UE's has been removed due to a lack of customer trust. People didn't believe the weather it displayed for locations.
Email conversation is below
"Thank you for contacting HTC regarding the weather widget for your new Desire.
The Google map pinpointing technique you describe is no longer available. However, you can still find your location by doing the following:
- From the home screen, tap on Weather (or click menu and then Weather).
- Once in Weather, tap Menu. This will give you a keyboard so that you can type your preferred location.
I trust that this resolves your query, please do not hesitate to contact us again if required.
Kind regards"
I then tried a different tack
Thanks for the reply,
though the technique you describe
- From the home screen, tap on Weather (or click menu and then Weather).
- Once in Weather, tap Menu. This will give you a keyboard so that you can type your preferred location.
is flawed in that it is limited by the locations stored in the UE's database? I can't say for instance pick "Famagusta" in Cyprus as a location I want the weather for, as the UE only brings up Limassol or Nicosia in Cyprus (2 locations for a large island). I know that is a wide of the mark example, but I spend time there, though is is the same for most European countries.
Is there any way to expand the geographic database or do we have to wait for someone to hack it, like they did on Windows Mobile based devices such as the Diamond, where we could edit the database with locations from accuweather.com
Any further info would be most welcome as it has somewhat taken the shine off my progression from handset to handset (last 5 all HTC) which seemed to offer more to the consumer and be more customer orientated in that we could personalise them.
Many thanks
"Unfortunately, there is no way to expand the database. We cannot offer support regarding 3rd party applications, such as you describe. However, you are certainly free to investigate this avenue yourself.
We will feed back to HQ with your comments, but at this time, the locations in the list are the only ones available.
Kind regards,"
I'll be keeping an eye on any developments for this because I'd like it to be able to tell me the weather in Ipsos on Corfu. As it is, Corfu island is omitted altogether.
Anyone with this problem?
My current location displays Portugal instead of Lisbon.
My HTC Hero displayed my location correctly, local city detail instead of county detail.
The weather widget really annoys me. My location is not on the list and if I tell it to current location it knows where I am but says no weather data available. I can view the weather okay on accuweather.com so it's just the widget that won't show it for some reason.
I also asked :
I cannot set MY LOCATION manually. Strange, but I live in Bucharest which is the capital of the country and the weather program from Sense UI finds the city but in the HOME screen the weather it's different (not Bucharest). So my location it is not set manually, the GPS and google settings knows that I'm in Bucharest but the weather shown in HOME Screen it's not Bucharest - instead I have (I guess) Weather for Romania (no city , only Romania). Before writing this e-mail I did some research on the net and the user manual, and I find out that My location it is taken from network settings or something like that. This is not normal and it's very annoying. All I'm asking it's a way to set my location manually or a real automatic setting for this! Romania it's quite big you know ????? Thank you and I'm expecting your answer urgent! Kind regards!
This is what they answered:
Thank you for contacting us,
Regarding the issue you're facing, kindly be informed that if you disable the automatic location settings your location will be determined from the world clock that you can set manually but you will not receive any weather updates, you can try to use another SIM card from a different operator to check if this issue will persist or not, you can also try to searching the Android Market to check if there are any 3rd party applications that might help you with this issue.
Same issue here, weather for Paris works great, but I would like to add the small village where I spend my week-ends, and I can't find it in the database...
Looks like the cities are stored in an xml file, but I don't where to find it...

Is there a way to add additional cities to the Sense Weather app? Is there a ROM that will do this? A search said about dragging a location from a map to the weather app? I'm missing something here.

From the HTC website.
Adding a location
The Weather tab can display weather forecasts for up to 15 locations, including your current location. (These locations are the same as the ones displayed on the World Clock.)
On the Weather tab, tap Menu > Add Location.
On the Add Location screen, enter the first few letters of a country or city name. The screen then displays a matching list of locations. Scroll through the list and then tap the name of the city you want to add.
Your phone then downloads the weather information of the location that you selected and adds it to the Weather tab.
What I am asking is there a way to add to the available cities.

I know on the HTC TP2 there was a way that you could do it. I'm sure some file in the system can be edited to include additional cities.
In this thread around post 4 there is a way that requires root and SQLite Admin.

Hello everyone,
I'm using Android Revolution 6.3.2, S-Eng off a.s.o.
I am trying to add a custom weather location, but I don't know which database to edit in WPDB.zip. I tried to add the location to WP_040EHUN, WP_0407GER and WP_0409WWE so far without success, my phone won't find the new location, which is in Hungary btw. Accuweather.com shows it and all fields I added in the database seem correct, and yet nothing.
Also, does the clock/weather widget only work with current location setting? Because as soon as I disable current location, it doesn't show the weather anymore.
The Weather application still shows and updates the location even after I turn off current location, yet it doesn't show it in the list.
The News & Weather application does the same as the Clock/Weather widget (if current location is off, it doesn't show the weather, it says "no available location").
I suspect this has something to do with Sense rather then the ROM, but anyhow any help would be appreciated.
Thank you!
You are right it is a sense issue. I got fed up of the sense weather widget and now use HD widgets or Beautiful widgets. You can make both of them look almost identical to sense and the location works perfectly.
It's quite an easy edit, its the wee one. Once in the db set your lat/long, and name it whatever you want. Then in the weather app and clock, select what you named it in the db.
I'll have a search for the info, and post the link.

But the whole point of it is to tell you the weather where you are at that moment. That edit is OK if your never leave your own backyard.

Yeah, but what if I don't want Google to know where I am at any given time? I mean, I'm not paranoid, don't have anything to hide either and I like Android, but I'm trying to let it invade my privacy as less as possible.
Currently I'm running mimicry 1.1.2. but lockscreen weather has given me the same behaviour on previous versions and on CM9 too.
I'm wondering if more people are experiencing the following issue:
After the reboot from my phone, the lockscreen weather says: No data.
If you tap the icon, it wants to refresh, but there is no known location
So i start google latitude, Google Maps starts, GPS starts, a 100% accurate position is viewable on the map and in the overview of my friends my city is shown.
Back to the lockscreen: Refresh weather: No data. Somehow Android (or at least the weather thingy) isn't aware of my location.
What i don't understand is that i can't provide Android any more relyable position than i just did (gps even).
It won't update the weather until i use a certain program called NS Reisplanner, which is a Dutch public transportation app which looks for train stations in my neighbourhood.
After looking for train stations in my neighbourhood, the weather can be updated.
From logcat, the only difference between google maps/latitude and the NS Reisplanner app is that when the NS Reisplanner app is updating my location, what i see is:
Code:
07-06 08:36:03.795 D/lib_locapi( 1596): loc_eng_inject_location, accuracy = 26.0
Especially the words "inject location" sound good to me.
Is it calling different api calls than google maps? Shouldn't the lockscreen weather be calling these calls too?
Any thoughts or same experiences?

Did you ever figure this out? I'm having the same problems and you are just about the only other person I can find who posted about. Seeing No Data is soo annoying. I guess my issue is that I want to keep Google's Location Services turned off since it kills battery and would like the lockscreen weather to pull location from the GPS, which I have always turned on, but it just keeps saying No Data.
Sorry for bumping an old thread but just wanted to add that if you use the "Custom Location" and add a city from the list at Yahoo! Weather, it works just fine
It seems the issue is related to Yahoo changing how their end works, so unless there's some way to alter the weather provider, I think we're ****ed.
I haven't seen it work on any ICS rom i've tried, I'm on jellybean now and still it doesn't work.
So it's probably yahoo thats to blame, I think beautiful widgets or HD widgets uses accuweather, might wanna try that?

I am setting up a workout log page, using zooper pro, on my nexus 7. I have a strength training calendar in the bottom left corner of the screen that reads off my Google calendar. On google calendar, I have the description typed up as a list of exercises for that workout. In the widget, it displays the list as a single line and not as a list. Is there anyway to get the widget to read out the event description as a list? I have attached two screenshots; one is the main screen, the other is the module setup in the widget displaying the event description.
Problem solved. Needed to use rich text module for this to work.
