Anybody kinda sad about the 5.0 update and starting from scratch??? - Verizon HTC One (M7)

So I'm Verizon m7 4.4.3 s-off unlocked bootloader, stock rooted Rom, sense 6 with almost every mod u can do to the Rom in existence, Xposed, themed, etc. N it's taken me quite awhile to get this phone to just where I want it, and kinda sad that as soon as I'm pretty much perfect, a new android version that revamps EVERYTHING Is around the corner, and we'll basically be starting from scratch... Waiting on mods n themes again,etc.. hopefully it won't take too long, ESPECIALLY ON THE KERNEL FRONT (ELEMENTALX & ELITE LUNAR , IM PRAYING YALL WILL BE THERE STILL)... anybody else kinda feeling the same way?

I'll just stay on 4.4.3 until all the dust settles and we can customize and root again. You might want to read up on chainfire's post about 5.0 breaking root and being special custom kernels to allow root access.

That will be for 3.10 kernels. We will still be running 3.4. I'm not exactly sure just how different things will be yet, but it will be interesting nonetheless.

Yeah I've read it... I've been hearing some really weird stuff about L, like Motorola making it so that if u ever rooted or unlocked your bootloader that u won't be able to update to L... Of course it's all speculation, but some people are even saying they're like, encrypting their RUU's so that they won't work on rooted phones (not sure how much I buy this, but who knows) ... I'm not taking the update if it breaks root indefinitely... I waited long enough til Sunshine came out and every day since then, I've basically been glued to this thing... But yeah it right @Uzephi , I'm waiting for everyone else to "guinea-pig" it until we know what's what.

You forgetting 3.10 or 3.4 HTC will add all the security that Google added to 3.10 so your still stuck in the same boat.

I definitely didn't lose anything by flashing santods cm12. Root works just fine. Xposed framework probably doesn't work (haven't tried it yet) but everything else is just fine.
What I mean to say is don't take the update through HTC if you're already unlocked and s off. Just wait for custom ROMs and flash them.

Yeah I forgot that android 5 removed dalvik completely. Sorry for the xposed users. We will have to wait until they make it art compatible and lollipop ultra security compatible.

Before I venture further, why not just perm-root (if you haven't yet) and install the Cyanogen ROM? It has everything you're asking without the need for a script to be ran all the time.
Because I like having the option to be rooted or not even though its the stock ROM . I really want the CM ROM but
I see a lot of bugs right now and want to wait till its all ironed

If you are concerned about voiding your warranty being perma-rooted, you can always flash back the stock rom and everything will be ok .

Haha, it's pretty much like peer pressure.
But I know where you're coming from. A temp root was very convenient as I wasn't sure if I wanted to do a perm root. Having the option of having it on or off is really nice.
Although it's only been a day that I had CM installed, I haven't encountered any issues from my daily use. And it's a stable release, so I highly doubt it'll become inoperable after you install it successfully.
Also, have you tried looking at the ROM Manager, checking the repository there, and installing the Bacon Bits? I'm serious, you need to consider it. You're doing a lot of unneeded work based on uncertainty by running so many scripts and going through the same process each time on boot. (If I booted frequently, I know I'd be asking if there was a better way.)

Rooted EVO, want to install Gingerbread... Basic ROM?

Alright, so I have honestly looked every where and read as much as I can.
I have a Rooted EVO with the stock ROM. I really want to update to Gingerbread but am very confused. I do not want to lose my rooted status and I do not want a ROM with a bunch of MODS. I just want a simple stock ROM with Gingerbread and Root access. Is this possible. I am confused by everything I read and do not want to brick my phone.
Will updating my phone with the OTA while Rooted ruin my phone? Will I be able to keep my root status?
Thanks!

There are two different rooted versions (with very minor modifications) of the new stock Gingerbread ROM (anything with the labeled "Sense" is based on HTC's ROM's, though some of them are based on ROM's from other phones), both on the first page of threads in this forum. Look for "4.22.651.2" in the thread subject--and yes, those will keep your phone rooted and S-OFF. I believe there's a third thread with a method of updating without a flash, and yet another with minor modifications to the stock ROM (the Titanium-X ROM).
By contrast, anything that says "AOSP" is based on the Android Open Source Project, and therefore quite different from an HTC ROM, though all functions work on many of them (but there is some debate on how well the various radios work on AOSP ROM's).
Okay maybe I had that coming or maybe I just didn't phrase the question right.
I looked at the page linked above before I posted this and I read it all and still was confused. I guess I am looking for the idiots guide to doing this. I don't feel confident enough on my own.
I DID read, ALOT, and I looked at all the posts that are suggested when posting a new thread.

They are referring to the fact that this thread is for development only. For future reference you can avoid being flamed by posting in the Q&A section.
Don't worry to much about these guys, they lurk and jump at the chance to show off their supremacy over noobs.

Alright will do!
I thought the Q&A was for other basic questions. My error.
Do you have the latest recovery installed of RA or Clockwork ?
I have clockwork i believe. I just did what I think is a nandroid backup, I went into recovery and did backup.
That's always smart so you are doing good so far. What you want to do now is download the zip file and place it on your SD card. You can download it directly on your phone if its easier for you (wifi recommended). Just follow the link posted by dodgerbluehero above and I would recommend starting with the odexed version.
Now go into recovery and choose flash from zip - then - choose zip on SD card. Navigate to the downloaded file and hit the power button to select it and again to confirm. It can take a few minutes to write the files so just leave it alone. It will tell you when it's done and you can reboot.
These instructions are from my memory but should be pretty close. You would typically want to wipe but the dev says not to worry about it if you are coming from a stock rom.
Give it a shot, you will be fine. Pm me if you have any questions because the mods will probably close this thread soon. Good luck!

what confuses me is where it says "firmware". Do I still have to install that or just the ROM??
The firmware is optional. You can install the rom and then decide if you want to flash the radio as well afterwards.
After you flash, the first boot sometimes takes a little while. Just let it do it's thing. You will be happily surprised how easy this actually is to do.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
but what benefit does it have? is the radio i have not as good?
Some people get better results with signal/3g speeds/wimax. The consensus seems to be that it varies by phone and area.
You can flash the rom without also flashing the radio and be just fine. Stop worrying and take the leap.
On the other hand this may not be for you.

Well I appreciate the time you spent explaining it. I just don't have the money to buy a new phone if I brick it. I rooted my phone on my own but never did any rom updates. I am going to try it once it downloads. Thank you again.
Oh one more thing, be sure that your phone has plenty of charge to make it through the flash and restart or that could lead to bricking your phone.

Agreed, at this point in the game, that's about the only way to brick your phone. It's one of my personal favorite little jokes when clockworkmod asks me are you sure? This cannot be undone! Darn near everything can be fixed thanks to this awesome community!

Thanks to everyone for keeping this going it has helped me so much. One quick question I have installed the ROM and the firmware but I see in the apps things like the blockbuster app and wanted to remove it. I cant seem to uninstall it so I thought it wasn't rooted properly. I tried using Unrevoked3 on it but it failed stating
Error: failed to get root. Is your firmware too new?
am I forgetting something simple or do I have to try and downgrade the firmware?

Buy a scratch & win lotto ticket. If you lose, go ahead and flash.
As of right now some simple steps would be being in the OTA update UCLG1 having a SV05 and having TWRP (team win recovery project) instead of CWM. The number of users experiencing this issue is very low. If your in the 30 day return period I advise doing some testing because its less of a hassle going to a store for an exchange instead of sending it away.

Its a issue affecting a small amount of people there's a very high chance that you might not get it. I was scared to but I said screw it I'm going to find out if my phone has it, if it does ill just exchange it better now than later on when my return period is up.
No one with baseband version of UCLG1 has lost it neither with TWRP and UCLG1.
If you wanna try it download the OTA from your phone(using software update on device itself). Root using no trip method and instead pushing CWM use TWRP. Flash and see what happens.

+1 Definitely the easiest way.
I was scared too man. I really was. This thing cost me an arm and a leg, its like the nicest thing I own and I never want to put it in dangers way. Plus if I had to pay out of pocket, I wouldn't be able to replace it for 2 months, and it would eat up all my pleasure money.
But you know what, I hate touchwiz. I hate the menus, I hate its goofy sounds and stuff. The stock keyboard is ridiculous. The battery life was really good though. I know I could of changed the launcher and some other stuff but I am really into running my devices lean and mean. This is just a thing, a mentality I guess.
I decided that at best I can provide some information to the community and possibly work with other people and get this figured out. Everyone being scared is going to ruin the test pool because we don't get the scope of info we need to really get analytical about it. At worst, well I have documented everything I've done so far and can reproduce any partition pre-flashing needed. If we all end up with phones with imeis missing in the first 30 days, and all take them back to att because "I don't know I just don't get 4g anymore", we can possibly force att and Samsung to look more in-depth And possibly give a fix.
If anything early is the time to flash if you are looking to get your hands dirty, and be fine with learning some things along the way. I spent a good 2 weeks just learning everything I could about the issue, my phone, just got real intimate with the thing XD. Once I felt comfortable that I have done everything in my power to prepare for the worse, I rooted with the "no trip" method and then installed busy box, and then goomanager from the play store. From there just go to options and then hit open recovery and it automatically detects your device and installs.
Just remember, this is a brand new device running brand new software. All of this is experimental and the fact any of it works, let alone as well as it does is amazing. I'm running aokp rc2 right now and its pretty impressive. There's some weird haptic bugs and I'm noticing that my signal strength is not even close to what it was stock. This is disappointing and o don't understand why this is. As far as I understand I'm still on the same modem? All I've done is flashed aokp and cm10 ROMs. I'm getting about 107db right now and it keeps switching from HSDPA to HSDPA +. So when I load a page, it will be slow till the HSDPA + kicks in, then it will go back down to HSDPA and loose signal strength, almost like it "cranks up" when data is being used? Anyways yea its fun and I totally understand why you want to, but bit expect it to be like 1000x better right now. But if you are down contribute either info, donate to devs, try things, send files/screenshots then come join the fun!

I'm holding out on AOKP until it comes out of preview builds, don't like being a guinea pig.
My experience:
Used the root without tripping flashcounter method.
Used adb to install CWM (the touch version for AT&T, not the teamepic one)
Have flashed custom ROMs, Kernels, and mods.
Absolutely no problems.
Just make sure to download the .zip files that are specific to your device, make nandroids, and have fun!

I made a topic earlier in the international thread about a hiss/static noise problem and a helper told me to flash a new rom as my current baseband is old and he had problems with this baseband/firmware.
I'm so confused, ROMS are just different type of "OS" right? I mean if I want to officially update my firmware I gotta go through the Samsung procedure? (If I update while rooted, I'll lose root right?).

Roms can update your firmware it all depends on what stock version their based on.
Most of the time you will find a root injected rom lets say its le9 with this you would just have to flash it through cwm/twrp. Instant firmware update without loosing root.
Then flash any rom based on it.
Plus theres a niffty app called OTA root keeper. Get OTA without loosing root.
Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on something.

Right now, there is no way to root or unlock the bootloader in your situation. It sucks, but it's where we are.
Don't hold your breath for an exploit, either. Motorola/Verizon closed all known holes for BL-unlocking in the penultimate Jellybean OTA, and the only root method that worked in the last JB no longer works here.
Enough with the KK unlock and root threads.
I'm going to start reporting people that make these threads without doing some homework first.
If you have a locked bootloader, you're pretty much up the creek without a paddle. End of discussion
If there is an exploit available, trust me, you'll know about it.

Enough with the KK unlock and root threads.
I'm going to start reporting people that make these threads without doing some homework first.

We can say this in every thread where they ask about root. We put warnings out prior to the OTA. Heck, we could probably put a sticky thread in this section about there being no root on KK, yet people will still ask. Why? Because they refuse to take 5 minutes to read through the other 37 KK related threads.

I of course can't speak for anyone else, but I knew the risks well before taking the update, and updated anyway.
I knew it was the very un-XDA thing to do, but frustration with the short battery life and UI lag on my phone was nearing a breaking point.
I tried to make the most of it; hence the "list of changes" thread, which hopefully has scared away locked users who are still n JB.
Any luck with a rootkeeper/root survival of any kind?

My story is somewhat different. I tried to find a way to get rooted KK on my phone (trying to play junior hacker again), ended up soft-bricking my phone to where the only way to fix it was to flash stock KK using RSDLite (did try RSD'ing JB first, but my bootloader was having none of that).
So now I'm hopelessly stuck with a completely stock phone without root.
I feel like the only way to get past this is to attack it politically, like if every single Verizon XDA user banded together and flooded Verizon corporate inboxes with legitimate reasons why we need unlocked bootloaders.
Or maybe if someone is good friends with a politician who is more left of center and concerned about consumer rights over corporations. Maybe convince them that it's better for the environment because potentially millions of phones could be saved from going into landfills if we mandate companies must allow bootloader to be unlocked when certain conditions are fulfilled, like if a phone reaches 1-year of age.

I new I was losing root with it as well. I liked the features that KK brought with the update and still did it. The update finally got me using Smart Actions and I'm getting pretty decent battery life, nothing mind blowing, but pretty good. Buying a portable battery pack has pretty much solved the problem I had with nonroot. Now I can go about 2 days as long as I carry it around, lol. Luckily it's small.
if I have an unlocked BL, and the latest stock version on KK, how would I get root? Is it possible?
thanks.

Flash a custom recovery via fastboot, and then flash SuperSU zip in recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/orig-development/root-4-4-x-pie-motorola-devices-t2771623 <-- this thread (not saying it works) is getting popular with Motorola devices. I attempted it myself and got errors just like some other people. Only difference is they still had root and I don't. I suggest following the thread and seeing if it does someday work for us or somebody could attempt it themselves. I'm currently on windows 8.1 so that could be a problem.

^^^He doesn't need an exploit since he has an unlocked BL. Also, this has been checked on the M and HD family of devices, it WILL NOT work because the the current KK updates have already patched the hole that this exploit is meant to take advantage of.

Yes!.. Just use URL="http://androidhosting.org/Devs/Dhacker29/msm8960/CWM6049-RAZR-HD_M-KITKAT.img"]custom recovery[/URL] and flash Superuser zip
And what about aka test points? Many Motorola models had such special test points using which you could get unlock of BL. How about our XT907? Any ideas about test points or shortcircuit of contacts?
No need now! Towelroot will root stock KK, and what magic it does allows Motopocalypse to unlock BL again.

Towel Root only allows the root access that Motopocalypse needs. The old trust zone was accidentally (or purposely) put back into this OTA, that's what Motopocalyse exploits.

Ah, I see. Good to know. :good:

Cannot install Sense 7

Hello! I have the standard M9, got it last year at launch. Rooted it and have been using roms ever since, no problems.
Then a few months ago when the AOSP roms started coming out I installed. Now my wifi drops out randomly, tried reinstalling, tried different roms and tried everything.
So I figured it had to be AOSP and wanted to try out sense again, but when I install a Sense-based ROM the phone won't boot, goes directly to the bootloader (white screen), anyone know what might be happening?
You must return the phone back to official status. There are plenty of threads on this subject.
If you think manufacturers are going to allow people to mess with root then return the phone because they broke it doing so, think again.
You should have understood beforehand that once rooted it's a pita to go back to stock but I guess that you are like most others that break it first and ask later..

You misunderstood, I mean a sense-based ROM not the original one, a custom one.

Oh right, like a deodexed version..
In that case you must make sure you are on the same firmware as the rom is designed for. Cm13 needs marshmallow, cm12 needs lollipop etc. Beyond that you've borked something.

But as of the firmware, are no firmware packages flashable, or do you need to do it through a computer, because that part always confuses me and can't quiet find a good tutorial...
