a new xperia s owner

hi i would like to ask what i need to install to my computer for the xperia s.(if there is a software about the phone like samsung kies)
also how i can see if the phone is full update to the os?(or if it has any available update,how i can check it?)
if i dont have the latest version of the xperia launcher,can i update it?
any must have apps/widgets for the phone?

You can use Sony PC Companion. It can be downloaded from HERE.
This software will show you last available update.

Look at your build number in 'about phone' and tell us what it says.
Pc companion should automatically install if you plug your phone into your pc.
But download flashtool as that's far better!

Pc Companion, Sony Update Service, Flashtool are the most needed. After that, download the rest of the programs that are on the Pc Companion home screen.

i just updated from 6.1.Α.0.452 to 6.1.Α.2.45 from an ota update that i received.
that was right? now the phone has less bugs?
is there any changelog to see what is now different?

There are 2 more minor updates: .50 and .55.
These two updates fix some bugs, like proximity sensor at the end of a call and low volume on call. If you don't have those problems then there's no need for updating.

i haven't notice these bugs u mentioned,but when i receive them i suppose i will update it.
something else now,i use skydrive and i want to ask if i dl and install the app,will it run at background using network data or it works when i want?
for example when i want to upload something to skydrive or download.
any other interesting app/game to install?

If Skydrive app is similar to the Dropbox app, then it will be running at background but will work only when you want. It all depends on the configuration.

[Q] APK security hole patch?

Hey I have a xperia s running free xperia 10.
I was wondering if there is a way to patch the security hole which was recently discovered concerning compromised apks which affected 99% of all android phones.
Do i have to wait until the free xperia project fixes the hole and then install a new rom or can i patch it some how ?

First of all, make a scan using this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bluebox.labs.onerootscanner I've scan this on my Xperia s jb and it's patched

I to downloaded and ran this bluebox app.
I ran the app, I am patched! don't know how, unless the latest ROM I flashed patched it, as I've downloaded nothing new (apps) from google play just app updates, I never update software (as I just flash), so how did I obtain the patch?
No malicious apps found, instal from unknown sources allowed.
I can assume I am safe? negating unknown sources allowed.
Just simply confused how my phone is patched, without me knowing, a good thing but can't see how it happened, unless the app & ROM updates did it
Advice/info appreciated.

I also tested mine and it is unpatched.

just be careful on what you download, never download apps on unknown/shady sites(warez) and download apps only from well know developer or company, or just use playstore and you will be alright.

[Q] camera quicklaunch bug

Hi,
Recently got the phone and realized that the quick launch camera button doesn't always work. Is the bug still there?
It's been.a while and surprised that Sony has yet gotten rid of it yet. They fixed it for xperia tx and s so why is it here again?

possible solution always for ur xperia;
1. factory reset
2. repair firmware by PC companion
3. flash stock firmware from another regions
IF problem remains after these
u should take to official service center

A new firmware update is available through PC Companion for Xperia T2 Ultra from 6th August. Any idea what's new in it?

What update?Share build no and the size of update?was it a big update or a small one?? Every time i connect my phone with the pc and check for update on sony companion software, it says already have latest updates.

there is nothing new its the same built number update
looks like releasing same built with some tweaks
i updated
its almost a GB data but useless
find nothing new or changed

Nothing new?? That's bad, i found this link while searching for updates, it says 19.1.C.0.117 has been certified, but its just a minor tweak, i guess its the same, but they have included it in the same build number of 19.1.C.0.116.
Sad there is no camera improvement or any other new stuff.

i think 117 cod be 4.4.4
as there is no huge change except security in update from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4

i believe thats was for dual sim variant right?

so is it necessary to update or just keep using the previous version 4.4

and cod be leading some internal performance benefit

ya it can be rooted as well as twrp and cwm is still the same as old

.117 Is just a for a chinese release, it is not 4.4.4.

Provide us .ftf file ASAP...as i cant update from pc companion.
M already in .116 but it is unbranded from Ashwin.

If may be related to cpu frequency
In jelly bean cpu was 1.4 Ghz
After kk[old. 116] it reduced and became 1.2GHz
So new update maybe fix it.

I have changed from ashwin's kitkat. 116 to latest 1.and according to me..a good change is there made by Sony.
As I tried to move TrackID app to sd card...it was moved and there 14mb difference in used space.
Before it was 192 used and after moving the app to sd card... It was 178 mb used.
Isn't it awesome guys???

no it still $|_|CKS at 1.19:silly:

tried the kernel, it said compiled from 19-Jun, not sure updated yet
still 1.2GHz, not fixed

I updated... Only inclusion of. 1 app i.e. Sony Sports... Rest everything is the same.... Donno why its size was 1.3 gb.... Its not 4.4.4, cpu still 1.2ghz....

Yes they added later ..got to wait full ROM to flash as phone was rooted despite unroot and reflash original recovery it won't verify update on flash so can't update

That won't be too hard. Converting images that's required isn't hard. Easy to create update file for twrp
Download image kitchen for android it'll convert the system image to a raw file which u can use to install to system partition.
And add boot and maybe cache to zip don't think userdata is needed here

User data is not needed but update contains patch files and some firmware updates not just system image so not sure that will work . update files here seem different to those I've seen on my HTC and Samsung

The Google patch isn't really needed the fixes is necessary I use full package not ota
For sure patches might not be updated since it's still says February patch. But it should contain the bugfixes still.
And according to the log. It doesn't contain Google patches

When I open the ota from umi it looks as if it patches some system files . it does not contain just updated files by the look of it so converting to something twrp can flash won't give same results as flashing the ota as normal.
For now no full 3.02 update is uploaded by umi.
Simple then as can flash via PC and ignore user data.
Once z pro is in sync will give your ROM a go

The system is having new patched files
The ota just patches the files needed Wich the full image has
And as I said I only convert the updated system.img not the ota files. Because the new system.img is patched already

I think that the 3.02 for Umi Z could be due just to the fact it's renamed as Umidigi Z. The previous 3.01 was listed as for Umi Z.

Looking at the update z 3.02 has new kernel and some updates to other firmware partitions as well as updated system image . I have sorted the system image as suggested with kitchen worked fine but other images don't work that way.
I guess custom ROM that's has been uploaded will update system and kernel fine but probably not update any firmware areas ..with this phone being so new I guess its best to update fully for now.
So I'm going to do a fresh flash of full ROM then update.
But I must thank you for all help and guidance and for starting the ball rolling on custom ROMs. Also thanks to (Phil?) Others who are working on custom ROMs here .
Soon we will have nougat and hopefully a linage port or at least custom nougat to enjoy

I don't recommend to try flash partitions like modem since it might break the modem until you flash it properly.

All flashed via spflash tool as firmware upgrade . worked fine ,, but cleared apps which never happened last update. Still fully re installed everything itself including accounts so worked but took time.
Defiantly done something to kernel side as phone very snappy
