[Q] G3 radio band editing - Qualcomm SoC - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi all-
Can anyone tell me if there is a hardware difference in the radios of NA/EUR models of the LG G3 such as the D855/852/850? Is it possible to change radio band support by flashing a different radio or other mods? I recall that this was possible with the Nexus4, to enable LTE support when the stock phone had it disabled. Could you flash a different radio baseband package to enable AWS on a D850/852, or additional LTE bands on a D855? I have a Bell D852 that I'd like to be able to use effectively on Wind, or T-Mobile in the US but obviously it doesn't support all of their frequency bands.
[update 11-18-2014] I've changed the title to reflect that editing G3 radio bands appears to be possible, user JustLiveIt has done so with a D855, but we do not have full details yet. Much more testing with different models besides the D855 is required!

Hi,
I am interested to know the answer to this for the reason you just gave, as well as myself having issues with low signal area performance.
If you find out the answer, please share it.
Cheers,

Maybe a better or more precise question would be; do the G3 models have a baseband radio package that is flashable separate from the existing ROMs? Can someone familiar with the previous LGOG->N4 conversions and the process to turn on the N4 LTE radio define what is necessary in this phone?
Simply put: this sort of thing clearly has been possible before with older LG models like making the Optimus G (E970/973) compatible with Nexus4 ROMs due to having common components. And logistically/economically it's in a manufacturers interest to keep the highest commonality of components for economies of scale in manufacturing. So logically- the various G3 models should use as few different hardware parts as possible, and differences should be defined in software as much as possible.

Has anyone tried this Qualcomm SoC dev mode hack on the D850 or D852? JustLiveIt has done testing on a D855 only so far. This thread seems to indicate that any and all GSM bands could be enabled on any current Qualcomm SoC.
Any D850, D852. D851, F460, etc users who feel lucky.. please give this radio edit a try and let us know!

Does anyone have the specific instruction set for LG phones or the G3 in particular? I have tried sending PMs to the LG users in the Qualcomm unlock thread but still no reply.

D852 sitting idle, awaiting some LG-specific instructions. I'm willing to do some testing and provide feedback, I just need a guide on testing with the G3, everyone else in the Qualcomm thread is either Sony or HTC users it seems. And neither of the users working with LG phones in that thread have responded in a week..

I got a reply back from JustLiveIt on Wednesday, unfortunately he has been offline while moving from the US overseas, so he will try to provide his radio details to-date on the D855 as soon as he is able. :good:

It's easy on LG phone...I have tested on G2 CloudyG3 (I just bought new G2 so far )
1.Install LG United driver
2.Require root
3.Turn on USB Debugging and switch to MTP mode
4. Connect the phone to PC and open terminal
5. Type this
adb shell
su
echo 1> / sys / devices / platform / lg_diag_cmd / diag_enable
setprop sys.usb.config acm, diag, mtp, adb
Click to collapse
6. After that check your Device manager, this will show up "Ports (LGE AndroidNet USB Serial Port (ComXX))" ComXX is any number
7. Now you can do anything, play with it....

Can you check that in your rom there is /sys/devices/platform/lg_diag_cmd folder? Use any file manager apps to do this...
Also if you running custom ROM, maybe the ROM author remove it. Try to flash stock ROM and try again.....

Definitely not found in CM12 20141124 build for D852.

I checked and there is no such folder i was using a custom rom cloudy2.1, then I restored back to the original stock ROM and there is no such folder either

That's weird...No comment...

So what can we do to re-add or load the necessary files on a Lollipop ROM? OR do we need to flash back to a stock Kitkat build? Does anyone who actually knows anything ever read these threads??
---
I've only been looking and asking for help and information for FOUR MONTHS in the G3 forums and the Qualcomm chipset thread and noone has provided any tangible information for the G3 phones, ever. I said right from the start I was willing to use my D852 to test and provide feedback, noone could even be bothered to reply. I asked people who claimed they'd had success with other G3 models, they provided nothing. This is why people hate on XDA- because it's full of useless posers who can't do anything except rehash files written or edited by others and take their credit. LOL ROMz!1one!!wan But ask for something original and useful to edit the hardware? Complete silence. Guess I may as well just sell my 852 and go buy an 851 on eBay, at least it will have what I wanted out of the box, for only $500.

Enabling LTE bands on LG VS985

Hi Enigmafied-
can you follow up here, or preferably here with the details on how you have edited the G3 radio bands? I have been looking for a set of instructions for testing this with a D852 for months with no reply from anyone..
I wanted to test access to the AWS bands for HSPA and LTE with Wind and T-Mobile on a Bell-sourced D852.

I will respond the same in both threads as it may be benificial to readers in each thread. To enable the Verizon LG G3 VS985 bands was simple, I followed the instructions from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-lg-g3/general/unlocked-lte-bands-vs985-t2909150

I unlocked some others LTE bands on VS985, I tried other tips from Sony Xperia forum with no success and now just with hiddenmenu it work, for that:
1. Download Shortcut Master (lite) from play store
2. Top right -> App Explorer ->Verizon Hidden Menu
3. go to -> LTEBandSelection tap and select Launch
4. Now choose all Bands and Save and reboot
Need ROOT
That's all

Not sure if you will have a hidden menu that is similar! Hope it helps!

Sorry, this is actually just the LG service menu accessible on any stock ROM LG phone with the standard 3845# code.. It is not really unlocking or enabling anything that wasn't already available from your provider. In fact this is pretty clearly an LG service code testing hook as this works on the stock ROM, but does not work at all on a Lollipop ROM such as Candy5. 3845# doesn't work there either.

Has anyone gotten this to work?
I have a d851 on t-mobile in the us and want to try to enable band 12 for lte

Glad that this treat is revoked again and sorry that there still is no usefully info about some interesting questions, specifically about hardware ( also regardless to ^^^post#15), would like to provide some personal update and experience past couple mounts with mine d851 model that i don't want to give up, since where i am, accordingly to lte i need bands 3 and 20, which d851 officially doesn't have them.
I did try every info that was find on net, was do a every idea that i can thing of (lacky me phone survive after couple serious crashes ), what from i know fore sure in editing android or it was hit and miss, try and error, restrictions of free (read demo) softwares, pagans magic and voodoo zens, etc etc... all i can say that i didn't succeed in enabling 3 and 20 bands and still looking for answers.
Also have a question: is it possible to change some hardware part (radio, modem, soc, whatever) and from d851 to transform in d855/d850/bands 3,20, and supporting it with appropriate software (kernel, baseband, whatever)?

I got it working.
working with qxdm not in a band 12 area dont know if it worked but settings sticking from boot.
You need to set the selinux to permissive then run from a su adb prompt
echo 1 > /sys/devices/platform/lg_diag_cmd/diag_enable
setprop sys.usb.config acm,diag,mtp,adb
I followed this http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/general/how-to-add-rf-lte-frequency-bands-to-t2886059 but the only addition was using this to change selinux to permissive http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2524485

[Q] Korean Version SHV-370K - ROM/GroupPlay/ChatON

Hey people,
I recently purchased a Korean variant of the S4 Mini. The model is SHV-370K. To my findings, its equal to the main version I9195. Is that correct? I do have the NFC chip installed. My question is, can I flash an official ROM like the ones used in the I9195? I have to much KOREAN language apps and I dont think I am prepared to root it. If I can flash an official ROM on this via ODIN?, will I still be able to get the OTA? My current version is 4.2.2. And checking on Sammobile I have the latest. The Korean stuff is just to much of a hassel and I am not sure if I will even get an update. Can I flash an official ROM and not lose warranty and root?
My second question is that I cannot make Group Play work on 2 of these S4 Mini's. They just dont connect. It says Network Lost and sometimes failed to join group. I've tried working it over with NFC and Wifi Direct. Normal gallery pictures and everything send easy, just this app that I really really want to use. Would be great if some one would help me.
My last question is that ChatON keeps giving an Error while checking for push services. I have tried everything. Changed networks, tried Mobile Networks. All my apps are up to date, even the annoying Samsung Push Service. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much people.
Have a great day.
Oh and I think its Carrier Branded? Cuz it has this Olleh writen on its back cover?
So ChatON and Group Play is working after they have been updated most recently. I did update them before but they dint seem to work. The current updates work good. Any one about the ROM issue? Would love some help <3.

Hi guys,
Have you found any solution to this problem? I'm also an [almost] happy owner of a Korean-branded S4 Mini and as USSD codes don't work, was told that firmware needs to be changed. But this being specifically a Korean phone, I'm not sure other ROMs out there will even be 100% compatible.
Thanks,
Vit

Thanks, but I don't think I have to enter a password, since other phones work without it. Unless it's somehow phone-specific, but my operator reps would probably have told me (instead they just said the firmware needs to be changed). What secret menu are we talking about? perhaps aI could investigate. At any rate, if there someone has managed to flash the Korean version of the phone with a more "universal" firmware, I'd like to know. Thanks!

Please forgive me as I'm a total noob, but after your last reply it hit me: we're probably talking about different USSDs. I meant that my operator USSD codes didn't work, the ones that I send to find out my remaining balance and to also enable/disable services etc. (e.g. I would send *444#2#1 to find out my remaining balance), not the phone's own USSD codes (like the service menus etc, e.g. the IMEI check with *#06#). Operator USSD codes just don't work - the phone either sits trying to connect for a few minutes (locking the phone down during this time), or just says that the signal is too weak. So I guess I do need to install a different firmware to fully unlock it.
Thanks for trying to help though, I'm learning new stuff!

Mate I have the same problem here. The USSD codes just dont work. My balance check does work though. All I have noticed that USSDS that need two steps dont work. Example to transfer credits, I type *456# and in return it should ask me what number I need to transfer my credits, but it just doesnt work. I have tried the menu but no idea what that is all about. Still cannot find what to do.
Secondly I met some one at the forums who has the same device as ours. HE said installing Cynogen Mod is working and it doesnt effect us having a model of SHV something. LOL. So I dont know if I should go ahead and flash a custom rom. I would rather flash an official rom but no one is helping here and I cant seem to find any. Like maybe we could flash an english rom from UK. Something official like the normal I9195 have! Not some korean ones.
New Update.
Hey people! I just got an OTA update and all I see new is a Google Drive icon. The update is still on 4.2.2 and not 4.3. It was about 96mb of file size. How can I take out the changelog and read what bug fixes it brings?

Strange folder in internal storage! [MATICS]

I've discovered this folder which I don't know what it is:
Internal_storage(0) -> MATICS -> LOGS -> matics.log
It warries me a bit, I had something like this problem in my HTC One M8 before I had my Google account cracked by someone. It returns even after factory reset, I don't know if comes back after flashing the 10e (I had in it, too - maybe)
(20c - eur - stock - without root)
Thank for help, have a good day.
Carrier IQ?
I had an LG G4 for a few weeks before I discovered spyware pre-installed and hidden. LG admit it's there but won't remove it. This spyware logs every keystroke and sends them off to someone in the US. Now, it's illegal to spy on anyone in the EU or UK without their permission or special privilege granted to 'agencies' for specific reasons.
Don't do any banking with your G4 unless you Cyanogen it first!
Michael

Paranoid stuff
dont have that folder on my canadian variant.
I have it too, just checked the *.log content & it seems to me it's some LG think (com.lge.matics..) and it has smth with network connection. H815 EU, Genisys v3.6 (MM 20C) rooted+xPosed
Same as @phsnake it appeared once I updated to MM. Wondering what's the point exactly.
It logs the network connectivity change. Just open the .log file.

The TIM (Europe IT/Italy) firmware K350n10e_00_0217.kdz for k350n is a little faulty. Once its flashed and phone is set up (google account and lg stuff) the home screen is not working (flashing or just blank) but if you have a backup (in lg backup) of your former homescreen and you can get into settings then you can restore your earlier homescreen and everything will be just fine.
Keep in mind that it's the febr.01. security patch so it can't be rooted. However the bloatware and the useless apps can be removed (with a lot of patience - it takes like an hour or so).

Thats why there are the threads separeted for each step very well described so we dont need to tell everyone what to do... if you have some questions after reading the related threads you can ask me in pm and ill gladly answer.

**testing** Lumia 1520.3 ROM

I've been working on a custom ROM for the Lumia 1520.3 RM-938 32gb.
The variant info for the model I'm working with is below.
I wanted to know if there were any users out there US or non-US that would be wanting or willing to test a 1520.3 ROM with me.
-You need to be able to understand and be capable of using Windows Phone Internals to unlock your phone
-Your device must be a 32GB model with Samsung eMMC
-This ROM is for the 1520.3 (RM-938) only, and was not tested for the 1520 (RM-939) or 1520.1 (RM-937). However, I own a 32GB RM-940 (1520.2) and this ROM does successfully flash to that device and work.
-Like any altering of any device outside of stock or OEM specifications, there is a chance for something to go wrong. Even though most errors or issues can be reversed or fixed you could potentially render your device useless or damage it in other ways. You would be willing to do this at your own risk.
-It would be best/ideal to do this with a spare device and not your main daily phone
I currently use T-mobile US so one of the customizations I did was to alter the NVI settings and provisioning files to use t-mobile US HD voice and LTE bands. I also removed some of the apps, and made a couple of other changes just for testing. I'm limited in what I can verify works for cellular tweaks and changes since I only use T-Mobile US.
If anyone is interested, let me know here and I'll post up a link to the image files. If not no worries. I'll link what I come up with either way at some point.
Model info: Lumia 1520.3 RM-938 Product code: 059V6X0 with 29.1GB Samsung eMMC
ROM info: Version 1703 Build 10.0.15063.1446
UPDATE:
I've moved to another area of focus and so for now I ended troubleshooting and building this particular ROM further. However what I ended up with I have posted a link for as I said I would. The only real changes from what the original ROM was is I added my own NVI files under \Programs\CommonFiles\OEM\Public\Nokia\MultiVariant\MCC-310\ and replaced the default variant NVI files with the same. I replaced the ADC files under \Programs\CommonFiles\ADC with that of the T-Mobile 640 LTE variant. I also removed some xap files that I personally found annoying or had no use for. That is about it.

My RM-939 is still bricked. I'm almost positive the uuid of the critical partitions are mismatched and maybe more...but going forward I did not work with that particular variant anymore since its modem nvi hard parameters (China Unicom) limited me for what I was originally trying to do anyway.

What edits did you make here? Could I not access the files in Mass Storage mode on my phone to update the files and fix the issue. Even I am on T-Mobile US and want to be able to use the LTE bands they support + enable HD Voice which the phone and both T-Mobile technically support.

I added and changed enough nvi settings to get the LTE bands I wanted and HD voice to work. If you want to know which lines were changed just compare the updated nvi file to the RM-938 original nvi file for MCC-310.

Thanks for noticing. I was not aware of anyone still using it...went back the other day and did some clean up of all my shared access. Message me and I can share it for you.

How To Guide VoLTE, VoWIFI, and 5G in AUS

Hello Fellow OP9 Pro users
I just wanted to start a thread for anyone interested in a OP9/Pro in australia that wanted to get Volte, VoWIFI, and 5G working.
I have tested this and confirmed that it is 100% working for Telstra & Vodafone, I have good word that this method will also work on Optus but don't actually have an Optus sim to test this with.
Huge shout out to happiboi from the OP8 forums for the methods used to get this all working with A11.
First step is to download the oneplus logkit from this link: https://downloadmirror.co/1MW9/com.oem.oemlogkit_1.0-1.apk
Once this has been installed, open the dialer on the phone and type in *#800#, tap on the "oneplus logkit" button, scroll down and tap on "Function switch", then tap on "VoLTE switch" but do not click restart click cancel. Then Tap on "VoWiFi switch" this time press reboot.
Once the phone has rebooted open settings, Wi-Fi & Network, SIM & network, SIM 1, then enable both the toggles for VoLTE and VoWIFI. This is probably also a good time to ensure 5G is enabled under "Prefer network type".
Now what we have done so far is essentially just enable the toggles for everything to work, what we still need to do is actually configure the phone to work on the Australian mobile networks, this is where the information and hard work from happiboi really comes in. I have quoted the guide from happiboi below as it is very well written anyway.

Code:
Prerequisites:
* Need ADB suite available on PC & enabled "ADB debugging" on phone via developer options
* When you permit your PC adb access to the phone after first adb command, make sure you tick always permit this device. When the phone boots after "adb reboot ftm", the screen is inactive so you can't authorise the device when you try to adb shell and are stuck
* Need QPST suite of apps installed on PC (needed PDC tools + EFS explorer)
* If on custom firmware - probably a good idea to backup your phone before you do this. On custom firmware after the first "adb reboot ftm" rebooting again puts the device in a boot loop until you format data
Process:
- Open command prompt on PC & navigate to where your ADB suite is located
- Type command without "":
"adb devices" (I like to do this to ensure adb can speak with phone/computer)
- Should display:
List of devices attached
<if working, your device should be listed here (else, it'll be blank)>
- Type command without "":
"adb reboot ftm"
--> This puts phone into field test mode
- Type command without "":
"adb shell"
--> Creates dialogue for shell command on phone
- In the shell (OnePlus8Pro:/ $ ) type command without "":
"setprop sys.usb.config diag,diag_mdm,qdss,qdss_mdm,serial_cdev,dpl,rmnet,adb"
--> This opens up ports that we used to be able to in Android 10
- Phone Screen is still blank - but it's OK.
- Start up PDC Tool in Admin mode on PC
- Click drop down, select phone connection (there's only 1 in the list)
--> ** If the drop-down box is empty and no phone/device listed, you cannot proceed.
--> ** Other users have foudn this to be related to a Qualcomm driver issue.
--> ** Delete the drivers you have currently installed and get a new one from here:
--> ** https://gsmusbdriver.com/install-qualcomm-usb-driver.
--> ** Also once the device shows up in PDC don't click on it, open efs explorer and let it start searching directories --> ** before going back to PDC and clicking on the device in the drop down.
--> ** The window may say 'not responding' just leave it until the carrier list populates then carry on with below steps
- Do the profile activation stuff for Telefonica_UK_Commercial:
- Look for "Telefonica_UK_Commercial", right click and SetSelectedConfig for both Sub0 and Sub1
- Click on the above profile again and click on Activate
- Do not restart your phone
- Don't close PDC yet (don't know if it make a difference but I didn't close)
- Open EFS Explorer (I opened in Admin mode too)
- Navigate to "\nv\item_files\ims\"
- Replace ims_user_agent file with one supplied
--> The supplied one has Telstra VoLTE Qualcomm as header instead of Telefonica
- Navigate to "\policyman"
- Replace carrier_policy.xml & carrier_policy.xml_Subscription01 with ones supplied.
--> Just take carrier_policy.xml and make a copy named "carrier_policy.xml_Subscription01"
--> ** Caveat, I further modified the carrier_policy.xml file as it wasn't enabling 5G for me on my IN2020 (Android 11) Oneplus 8 Pro.
--> ** I changed the nr5g_sa_bands base & nr5g_nsa_bands base values to be "hardware" rather than specifically band n78.
--> ** This changes config to allow whatever 5G bands the hardware has available rather than specific bands
--> ** You can't enable bands that the hardware doesn't support anyway so makes sense to enable all
--> ** This gave me the needed 5G access with Telstra
- Type command without "":
"adb reboot"
After phone boots back up, 5G + VoLTE + VoWiFi are all intact and in working order!

I am extremely interested to see if anyone running the A12 beta would try this and see what sort of results they are able to achieve.
Cheers guys.
Thanks for this. Can confirm that this works for the UK as well. I'm on VOXI (Vodafone) and saw no option for wifi calling. Just followed the first part to download the logkit, enabled switch, wifi calling working

Hey there,
I'm glad this is working for you too - the credit really goes back to all the XDA users who have helped to give guidance in creating these steps
For anyone reading and interested, it has now been confiremd working on OP6, 7, 8 and 9 series phones (as well as Nord).
Great way to get features that should be 'enabled' from OP themselves and remember you will need to do this after every system/OTA update to re-enable these functions.
Happy days, cheers all!
Thanks so much! This worked perfectly for me with an 8pro on Telstra. I work in an area with a 4G only tower so haven't been able to make calls for the last 6 months!
Could the same methodology be followed for my colleague's Xiaomi mi 10t pro 5g?

There's no harm in trying on the Xiaomi.
The other way to attempt this was the original process outlined here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/volte-and-vowifi-in-australia.4095097/post-82847027
The only reason we (OnePlus users) had to change our method was because OP closed off access to the efs ports after the android 11 updates.
Not working whit Ho mobile Italy carrier
Ho can restore the original versione of. com.oem.oemlogkit
Regards
Thanks a lot for this! thought I was being screwed by Telstra the whole time.
Confirmed working on LE2123, Oxygen build 11.2.6.6.LE15BA with Telstra 5G, VoWIFI & VoLTE, though when installing the Qualcomm driver in Device Manager I had to use the "Qualcomm HS-USB WWAN Adapter 9091" option to make my phone show up in QPST.

Hey there! I have a Nord (EU AC2003 model) and I'm in Bulgaria on the Telenor network. I don't care about VoLTE or VoWIFI but I do want to be able to use 5G as my carrier supports it (and should be compatible with the phone as they are using the n78 band according to Wikipedia and the phone supports it).
On the phone Telenor said it needed no special activation on their side so this is an issue with the device. I don't have the 5G option in preferred network selection at all so I thought this guide would help until I saw that the XML files are for Telstra.
You said that it has been confirmed to work on Nord, my question is, would this guide work specifically to force the phone to use 5G (I have already tried enabling it through the engineering menu via dialing *#*#4636#*#* but that doesn't work for me)? My second question is whether it would be possible for someone show me how to modify the XML files for my carrier (Telenor BG)/modify them for me if that's the case?

Carrier: Moose Mobile (Optus)
Device: One Plus 8 Pro (In2020)

As @LordFigTree mentioned I also had to use the "Qualcomm HS-USB WWAN Adapter 9091" driver.
Other than that flawless guide, thank you very much to everyone who made this possible!

Might be something to do with the special characters in your user file name? Not sure but it might be worth trying to copy the file from the root of your drive.

Weird, just did it exactly the same as I did last time but it has now worked, showing i have full 5G connection.
Thanks @mhall156 i wouldn't have tried again if you didn't say it's still working for you, not sure how i screwed it last time but glad i got 5G back.
Awesome, I'm glad it's working! I have had some attempts not work for seemingly unknown reasons. I've just restarted the phone and tried again and have always seemed to make it work.
It's a shame we have to go through this to make our otherwise great phones work properly.
