So i was wondering if i could change my tmobile lg g3 into the d855 version since everything is for the d855.
Nothing short of buying the D855 will get that for you.
Simply, NO
Well that sucks i use to change varient on my htc one to any one that i like.
Why would you want to? For lollipop? Don't bother with all that if so, just wait.
Lets hope tmobile will release it asap
Well most likely US carriers will be a little while longer. It almost always takes longer for us because of carrier regulations. Also Im sure tmobile will also be adding VoLTE in the update so that maybe could make it take longer as well.

Hello Everyone. I have purchased a LG G3 D851 (TMobile) unlocked from Dubai and intend to use it at India. I am worried about
1. Are the wireless and NFC chips different from the D855. D855 has 2 connectors while D851 has 4. Can I use D855 Back Panel on the D851 and vice versa.
2. Since it is unlocked, will the updates come from LG or should I wait for T-Mobile to send the updates.
As it is a quadband phone, there should not be any carrier issues.
And finally, why does LG G3 not include wireless charging off the box in USA like they do all over the world?
Your inputs will be much appreciated and will also help fellow xda folks as there is not much of talk about the differences between D851 and D855.
Cheers,
Karthik
Just found out that the D851 does not have any t-mobile markings on the mobile back cover or box. Infact even while switching on there is no t-mobile logo. But the model is LG D851. Is it even possible? Because D851 is the code for t-mobile. Please help clear these doubts.

I think that this is possible as D851 is also sold for Canadian carriers...

It came in a sealed box. The model number is mentioned as D851 while there is no mention of T-Mobile anywhere on the box or on the mobile.

LG G3 sold in Canada is D852. Please correct me if I am wrong.
If that is the case, LG has started selling generic D851s in America. I even found an user manual for Generic D851 along with the Tmo D851 on their website.
The European model D855 comes with a Qi Compatible back cover. The Indian model D855 comes with a Qi back cover, 1 Year Display Replacement voucher, and Discount voucher worth $160 on G Watch. I wonder why the American version is so basic.
Carriers abroad
I would assume, and I only do this out of assumption, that T-Mobile USA isn't the only one that uses the D851 and the bands that T-Mo uses here is the US is probably used by other carriers elsewhere in the world. If that is the case, then I would think that LG would have saved their money and gave the D851 to carriers abroad that used the same spectrum, minus logos and boot animations.

Thanks for the replies. On first set up of the mobile, I was shocked to find SperSU by Chainfire installed but its still not rooted. The mobile is brand new and has D85110C installed. I cannot find the Update Center (Settings -> About Phone). Please someone tell me what I have got myself into? Thanks.
Your "brand new phone" will not ship with SuperSU. If you don't have the playstore on ur phone, its another sign that phone is not new. LGs update center is also preinstalled.

LG PC Suite is working now. Playstore is there. Only thing weird was the SuperSU. Do people who unlock contract phones leave SuperSU on the mobile. And I found out that LG G3 Tmo and AT&T models do not have the Update Center visible. Wonder what is wrong with all these American carriers? Stupid, Absolutely Stupid.
Unlocked phone has nothing to do with SuperSU. SuperSU is strictly used for root. Again, T-Mobile, LG, or purchasing an unlocked phone will NOT have SuperSU.

Can any AT&T and TMo users confirm whether they have the update software option on their mobile. I have seen a few users complain that it is not available in US Version. Please give your feedback. Thanks.

Oh that is great. Is it possible to download the update center as a stand alone app?
Did anyone stop to think that maybe when he signed into google he chose to restore his apps and it downloaded chainfire su from the playstore automagically? Since his phone wasn't rooted it seems logical to me.
Then again my IQ is only three times that of Stephen Hawkings so what would I know. </sarcasm>

Nope might. I have never used SuperSU Chainfire before. Anyways after a chat with LG US officials and after going through the files in the mobile I have found out the below:
1. Rooted Mobile
2. TWRP Installed
3. It has been flashed with LG-D851_Generic.zip (1.02GB)
4. It is indeed LG G3 D851 ( Without any affiliations to T-mobile )
If anyone would like the Generic version I would be happy to upload the file. So may be in some international markets, they are selling Generic Version D851. But it still puzzles me why my seller would root and install TWRP in a generic version.
If you open the back cover do you see D851 printed in white ink on any parts?

Yes it does have D851 written on various parts. Photo attached :
I guess it really is a D851 - T Mobile.
I bought a G4 from Verizon and ended up returning it just now because of the missing features and bloatware.
I'd like a G4 that has no carrier bloatware (Carrier unlocked?) have all my features that the phone SHOULD come with and has the boot loader unlocked.
There is this listing which I'm thinking on buying (Grey one).
So what I need to know is..
Is there ANY model of the G4 that has it's boot loader unlocked?
If so, which ones?
If not, are we able to unlock them manually yet?
Which carrier disable features, just Verizon?
Do all carriers have their own bloatware on the G4 or just Verizon?
Whats different from the US to the International version or the H815?
I plan on using Cricket and the H815 on that Amazon link should work with Cricket, doesn't have any carrier bloatware and has all the G4 features. Unless I'm seeing this wrong?
So which model is best to go with? Should I snatch up this H815? I heard the H811 is good? What model should I get?
Once this thread helps me choose which one to buy, I'm going to buy it like now. Just wanting to buy the best one. Thanks!!
Just to clarify, you do not intend to use this on Verizon correct? I see that you said you will use it on Cricket, but I'm confused why you bought a Verizon model in the first place.
Well I had a dumb old flip phone from Verizon. I wanted the G4, Verizon had it, Cricket didn't. I heard about missing features, but I thought they were just disabled, so I could re-enable them. I found out this clearly wasn't the case. But I figured I'd buy the phone from Verizon since Cricket doesn't have it and I was already signed up with Verizon, and go to Cricket with it afterwards. But... I saw all the bloatware, missing features, etc. So I just took it back.
After today's research I'm down to the T-Mobile H811 version or the H815 since both of those models have the boot loader unlocked. The problem with T-Mobile is I'd have to have service with them for 45 days before they would carrier unlock the phone. So I'd have to wait 45 days to see if it works at Cricket and get it switched over. Or I can buy the H815 which has the boot loader unlocked and is carrier unlocked, so I don't know if it will have carrier bloat since its carrier unlocked? Some people selling the H815 told me they got it from ATT, Verizon, etc. So not sure how that works.... since Verizon's model is VS986...
Anyways, it seems my best bet is the H815 because I can buy it and take it straight to Cricket when I get it. The issue now is there are many versions or the H815, I hear there is a International and a US version, not sure the difference. I hear there are many other models like the H815T, etc. Guess these are for other counties or something?
I believe all G4's should work with Cricket, the G4's seem to have the correct bands and Frequencies, unless I'm wrong. I know Cricket uses ATT service / towers now. I know we can change the APN and Network Mode to get them working if there is an issue. I without a doubt want to use Cricket.
So I need to know which H815 to buy and if there are US and International versions and the difference between them and I guess which is best to buy with unlocked boot loader, no bloat and works with Cricket.
Get yourself an H815 international version and ditch Verizon. The suckers do mess up bootloaders and AOSP really bad and they corporate readily and heavily with the NSA. Worst carrier ever.

You need to be careful, look at the bands you need as well. The Verizon G4 lacks many bands that ATT/Cricket uses.

Verizon model has unlocked GSM bands too. You can throw a GSM sim in there and enjoy.
What missing features are you referring to? Themes from the stock launcher? Stock themes are just icon packs. Use a 3rd party launcher that is better supported.
All models are have locked bootloaders except specific international models. But if you unlock, you'll be giving up access to DRM content and such. It is not desirable at this point to unlock normally.
All models can root now. The phone is still like 2 months old, development is active. Root was just achieved a couple weeks ago. Custom recoveries and stuff are still in the works.
Nice to see someone else from Cincinnati. Anyways, they take out:
LG SmartWorld
Smart Settings
Multi-user accounts
FM Radio
Themes
Custom lock screen
Then the bloatware, so I jsut got fed up. What will I be missing out with DRM content? I was going to buy the H815. If anything the H811. These both have unlocked boot loaders.
Pretty sure this app was just installed by the LG update center today and that it wasn't there before.
I have the US T-Mobile variant of the LG G7 Thinq.
Thank you.
It's been there all along. It's was there only G4 on marshmallow as well. Not sure what it's there for but I can find no evidence that it does anything whatsoever, but have not attempted to disable it
What does Multitasking Framework stands for? I stopped it once and it never runs again. But what for is needed then?

I think It's there to see when you try to use a service (like tethering or vmail to text) that is not covered by your plan, and to let you know you need to buy that service or upgrade your plan to get it.
See: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-g4/help/hotspot-broken-rooting-t3165994
Hope this helps. I was wondering the same thing and my old G3 is asking me to update this app. I'm on T-Mo as well.

I currently have a G7 ULM which was the unlocked version for the US. I bout it from Google Fi, but this phone since it is not carrier specific will never be updated by LG. Still on Android 9.
Other versions of the G7 have received OTA updates.
So I wonder which version of the LG G8 I should buy in order to not get stuck (apparently they will update up to Android 11 for this model)
But I need a GSM unlocked G8 that I can update OTA using any carrier other than the one it is tied to.
Which one would you recommend for this and also for less bloatware etc?
I really like having the fingerprint sensor on the back and it seems that the LG G8 is the last iteration of phones from LG with this feature and it is an upgrade from the G7. (which is great in my opinion)
It is cheap here in the US too.
Suggestions appreciated.
Thanks a lot.
Just came across your post. I have an unlocked LG G8 that I purchased from Best Buy running on Verizon. I have had some OTA updates but, as you know, LG is slow with them. I am on Android 10 with the 4/1/21 security patch. They say that it's supposed to get Android 11; keeping my fingers crossed. I hope this helps a little.

thanks man! You are the only one who likes pink floyd apparently lol..
I have Tmobile and would need a version that works with tmobile.. not sure which one to get. The unlocked versions are harder to get updates because according to a rep from LG they need to test with many carriers before they release the OTA update. May or may not be true.
But thanks for your input !

Yep, I do like Pink Floyd. Amazon does have some lg g8’s both unlocked and locked to t-mobile. Most of them seem to be “renewed”, as they put it. T-mobile locked would be best as long as t-mobile keeps up on their updates. Hopefully lg will keep their promise to bring out Android 11 for these phones.
I hope that you’re able to find a good deal.
I have a Sprint ThinQ V8 that is no longer active after receiving a new phone from T-Mobile (a few months back). T-Mobile ported the phone number and deactivated the LG V8 remotely.
How can I get my LG SIM/carrier unlocked or should it already be unlocked?
Thanks

So, never did what you're describing. You had a G8 on t-mo network, you got a new phone from them, they ported the number to the new phone (why didn't you just take the sim out of the old one and put it in the new one?).
anyway, maybe when you say 'ported the number' yer basically saying on t-mo's website they now show the new phone instead of the old one. That's not really 'porting the number', that's just changing on their site which phone you have, and you put the old sim in the new phone?
Completely unsure what you mean 'deactivated the LG G8 remotely'? What? Is this a phone that you've completely paid for? If so, they have zero business doing anything with that phone other than carrier unlocking it.
you might want to explain a little more about what's going on.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry for the confusion, I'm a newbie at understanding how everything works. The LG V8 ThinQ phone was obtained from Sprint and was on Sprints network until T-Mobile called offering a new Nord N200. When I got the Nord N200, I called T-Mobile customer service and they transferred the number from the LG to the Nord by guiding me on codes to enter. The LG has been payed off for awhile. Is there a way I can check to see if the LG is now carrier unlocked? Thanks in advance.

Oh, that explains it. Yes a simple way to check if it's unlocked is put a sim in it. If it connects to that carrier, you can make calls etc, then it's been unlocked. If it's not, call Sprint, I think they are legally bound to unlock it if it's paid off.
