Hello
I've gone through Revolutionary to free my Desire from the shackles of Orange/T Mobile and HTC's software.
Everything worked fine at first. I got the Revolutionary recovery running, then flashed Cyanogenmod 7.
Cyanogenmod 7 was great, but it kept crashign when I tried opening the Cyanogenmod Settings.
I opened recovery, wiped everything clean and tried to re-flash it again.
It reflashed, but said it did not see an SD-Ext, but went through to the boot screen....
but the boot screen just kept looping over and over.....so I repeated the options listed above and flashed the MIUI Rom and again the boot screen keeps looping.
I went back into Revolutionary Recovery and now the options keep bringing me back to a black screen showing the word Revolutionary..... but wont let me flash again.
I'm stumped and could really use some advice on what to do next.
Any help would be massively appreciated.

Another try - same problem
I went back into Revolutionary recovery and restored the backup (nandroid) and rebooted - this time it went back to Cyanogenmod 7's boot screen and the animation seems to be stuck on a loop.
- The blue android character skates over, the blue animated arrow-sircle spins around him and the Cyanogen logo - then it restarts the animation back to the skating android......again ......again....again....
Someone please help!!
Thanks

Did u flashed even the a2sd script? Did u have an ext partition?
Try a clean installation..Wipe data, cache, dalvik and under mounts and storage format also system and sd-ext(if u have the ext)...Then flash cm7, gapps and a2sd script (if u have the ext, following the instruction on cm7 thread)
I downloaded the Cyanogenmod 7 zip from the main site. As I just did as you suggested the following showed:
- wiping data -
formatting / data ...
formatting / cache ...
formatting / sd-ext ...
No app2sd partition found. Skipping format of /sd-ext.
formatting /sd card/android_secure...
Data wipe complete
- wiping cache -
formatting /cache...
Cache wipe complete.
Formatting /sd-ext...
No app2sd partition found. Skipping format of sd/ext.
Done.
Dalvik Cache wiped.
Where do I find the sd-ext or create an app2sd partition?
Thank you very much for your assistance.
VB
As far as I know, one cannot partition its sd card with ckockworkmod recovery. You have to do it with gparted.
After creating the ext partition, don't forget to flash the a2sd patch from cyanogenmod thread here on xda.
SwiftKeyed from Oxygen with Transparent XDA App
The sd-ext partition is not striclty required..the rom work also with no ext..
Flash the cm zip again and the gapps, and it should boot..
later, if u need more space, u can create an sd-ext partition for app2sd...search some guide about it..even if u can simply partition ur sd card with the recovery (cwm 3.x only i think or amon ra), but u need to do a backup on ur pc of ur sdcard content, as the partitioning from the recovery will format ur sd card completely..after partioned and restored the content on ur sd card, u can flash the a2sd script on the cm 7 niglhtly thread and u are ok
Yep, it's more recommend to flash cm7 hboot instead of creating an ext partition.
SwiftKeyed from Oxygen with Transparent XDA App
I think he has used Revolutionary. It is possible to partition the SD card with Clockworkmod recovery. Even I did the same. May be you need to change the stock hboot to CM7r2 hboot partition table
check http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=SD_card_partitioning
it will explain how to make an ext partition
Thank you all for replying. I've got everything running sweet with cyanogenmod 7 and ext partition due to your help.
Big up the xda community!!!
Hello,
I wanted to try CM7 nightly.
I had rooted stock rom 2.29.405.5 with a2sd+ from this thread.
Before flashing cm7 nightly 225 I wiped data/factory reset and wiped cache partition.
Flashed rom and booted normaly.
After that I wanted to restore my nandroid backup..
I wiped cache and data/factory reset.
Then I got an error while restoring /sd-ext!
Tried again by doing the same and wiping dalvik cache.
When the process reached the point when it restores the sd-ext the progress bar got stuck.
(s-off and clockworkmod recovery (CM v.5)
After that I removed the battery and powered the device.
All my apps are not there. Not even the superuser app.
Please what can I do?
I'm having the same issue with my nexus one. any ideas?
What happens if you use advanced restore and restore the,sd ext on its own?
You may need to reformat your ext
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
The recovery would freeze
After a lot of retries I gave up trying to restore it.
I came to the conclusion the sd got corrupted. (Transcend 8GB class 6)
After that a lot of "bad" things happened, such as couldn't mount sd card, had to reflash partition table and a randomly occured USB brick...hopefully with the help of a friend we(mostly he) managed to fix it..I am at a stock rooted rom with s-off now and want to buy a new sd card..
Is there any way to verify that my old microSD has really been corrupted?
I have continued (kind of) the thread here!
With more info and questions.
Thank you for your reply!
I have exact the same problem, but the disadvantage that I can not install any Rom as it freezes when installing. So I'm not able to start the phone as it sticks on "quietly brilliant" screen.
What I have:
- Amoled grooted
- S-OFF mit Alpharev CM7 r2
- HBoot 0.93.1000
- Recovery: CWM 5.0.2.6
- Last Rom: Runny Mede v3
What I tried:
- Restore Nandroid: Freezes on restoring SDEXT (after factory and dalvik wipe)
- Install ROM: Freezes at writing SDEXT or says that it finished but the bar sticks
- Format SD Card, deleted EXT4 partition and remade it with Gparted. Checked it with windows chkdsk and Gparted and it gave me no errors
- Rewrote the partition table to CM7 r2 with a PB99img.zip
- Made a EXT4 partition with CWM
- Changed the SD card with another one (always making a EXT4 partition and formatted in FAT32)
I don't know what else I should do. Please help restoring my Desire!
Could it be a issue of the CWM? As I can not go back to another one, because Fastboot flash doesn't work, I can not test it by myself!
What do you mean fastboot flash doesn't work? Tell me everything

Thats not how fastboot works. Read the adb and fastboot faq in my signature (ignore all adb things, and start at "what is fastboot?")
oh ok, seen it. So I'm gonna try Android Flasher to flash recovery.
To sort out recorvery as source of the issues, which one should I flash? Which one is the most stable?
Personally I am a cwm 2.5.0.7 man.
Got it running again!
Flashed the CWM 5.0.2.0 and everything worked fine again.
It seems that the Clockwork mod 5.0.2.6.111007 of zyonee has a problem with SD-EXT (so it was on mine, don't know if it works on other devices too).
Running MIUI, AmonRa. Phone was totally stable, today I was charging it and it refused to turn on. Pulled battery and when I turn on, its stuck on white htc Evo screen.
I can boot to recovery and see my old nandroid's and make a new one. I can S-OFF in recovery. Restoring the nandroid doesn't seem to help, its still stuck on white boot screen.
A few things to try:
1)Reboot to bootloader and select fastboot and reboot... have had this work before...
or
2)In recovery wipe everything then restore your nandroid.
or
3)Have a copy of the MIUI version you were on? In recovery, wipe system, then flash the ROM
LG optimus LTE WON"T BOOT
My Phone won't boot after try to install CWM. The touch buttons flash couples sec after press power but phone won't turn on. When i plugged in the computer, the computer recognize it but can't do restore. HELP PLEASE!!!
Ok I managed to debug this a little bit more.
Can get to recovery, but trying to restore nandroid's failed. I did this after wiping everything, doing a factory reset, and it still fails. When I tried to mount each partition individually, it failed to mount sd-ext with the error "can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 (File exists)".
I think this was the key, as I was using dta2sd on all my roms. Luckily I had another rom which was not using sd-ext, and I was able to restore that.
Is my sd-ext partition now lost? I can't check its status using the rom I have since it doesn't support sd-ext. Obviously all my apps were installed on it and I'd like to back them up.
The sd card itself seems fine, I can see everything on it.
I was actually going to post about this, thanks for doing it for me man.
Even with sense roms just restarting the phone will get me stuck at the htc evo 4g white screen and I have to wipe all data and factor reset just to get it to boot up again but i loose all my stuff and it really sucks. My phone only has recently started doing this, any ideas on what I can do to fix it?
I tried what imhereoldman said, but that just fixes it till the next time where it does the same thing after restarting the phone and im really getting tired of it :/

I just found this and it sounds like it will be a pain but should solve the issue trying it out now and il let you know how the unroot reroot goes...
You don't have to unroot. Just run the RUU for your phone.
Also, try to do a backup of your SD Card, reformat it (Sorry if you don't have a TB backup), repartition, then restore the backup and reflash the ROM after a thorough and complete wipe.
Thanks hipkat, I should have done more research on it, I did the un-root to. But I did run the RUU file and switched to AMON this time and it seems everything is cleared up and its running fine! thanks
I have rooted the phone, then S-OFF and installed 4EXT Touch recovery with Stock Hboot, but when I boot into recovery I am getting following message
>>
ATTN: recovery is in safe mode, this is because the following partition is not accessible: "system". Please enter the wipe menu and format system.
If you changed hboot, you should choose to format all partition (except sdcard). Afterwards please reboot recovery.
<<
Is this normal or I am missing something here, I need to flash custom ROM, is it ok to go ahead even with this message showing or do I need to fix this issue before I proceed with the ROM flashing.
Thanks for the support.
There is this option Wipe Format on 4ext recovery. Just format whatever it is its asking you to format. Obviously you'll lose whatever rom you are using so you'll have to reflash. Its not normal to have that message. Just do what it wants and reboot and it should clear up.

I had the same problem after changing hboot. I just format all partitions except sdcard and it solve the problem.
I got the same problem today. Could it be something wrong with the flash of different Hboot?
Format all partitions. If that doesnt work delete the 4ext folder on the sdcard.
Its not much of a problem. I've gotten the error and continued to flash a ROM and everything went well.

I've had that a few times aswell I just wipe all except sdcard and reboot recovery and the its fine

It is perfectly normal. HBOOT divides internal memory into 'system', 'cache', and 'data' partitions. Different HBOOT versions set different sizes for these partitions, so when you change HBOOT your internal memory is all 'messed up' until the partitions are formatted.
I experienced a usb brick a while ago when I changed hboot and tried to wipe in 4ext. 4ext detected this and fixed it with no issues.
I asked max about it and his advice was to always format all except sd and then change hboot.

Hi,
i have flashed many ROMS until now on my HTC Desire.
But now I have a problem.
I wanted to go back to an fast and stable ROM, so I selected:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426339
this one.
I formatted my SD card, with an fat32 partition and 1GB ext4 partition.
cleared all the cache (dalvik too)
Installed the ROM.
The installation complets, and says, you must reboot your phone, the first time it will spend 10-15 minutes.
I am waiting now about 30 minutes the second time I installed it
But its always rebooting to the HTC Flash Screen.
I am on HBOOT 80.000
an S-ON
with the newest radio on it.
i'll take the stock Rom, not the data rom.
Whats wrong?
Can you help me?
Thanks in advance. (I wanted to post in the thread of the ROM, but i havent the privilege to do that)
cheers
you need to full wipe, not just wipe caches
you are still s-on, so assume you are on clockworkmod recovery. use the wipe data/factory reset option at a minimum. then go to advanced and wipe cache and dalvik anyway, no harm.
this completely formats the whole device, you currently have bits of different ROMs installed which is why it doesn't boot.
if you want, it is better to s-off, then you can switch hboot and use data++ version of that rom for more app space.
for s-off, search for guides, I think you'll have to upgrade to stock RUU rom as your current hboot version is not supported.

sorry, I forgot, i already have wiped data/factory,
I wiped all possibilitys
Thanks for your quick response!
before i do the s-off, i want to check the rom in s-on mode.
Did you partition your sdcard using clockworkmod recovery or minitool partition wizard? If so, these are not recommended methods as they create bad partitions for desire.
Use gparted to completely format the sdcard and recreate the partitions, search for good guide in general section.
If you were s-off you could flash 4ext recovery which makes good partitions easily.

i've did it with gparted on an linux laptop,
Its an 8GB SDCard, at first i have the ca. 7GB FAT32 partition, and behind the ca. 1GB ext4 partition.
I deleted the hole card before i formatted it.

as long as the partitions are done correctly (both primary partitions), then i'm not sure why it's not installing.
try downloading the rom.zip again, check the md5 sum before flashing, details given in the first post of the thread.
full wipe and try again.
eventually i still recommend you s-off, but yeh try and get this to install first.

i've did it again, but nothing works!
same problem again...
i have downloaded the rom again, checked MD5.
deleted the hole SD Card and formatted it again with fat32 an ext4 (both primary partitions)
deleted all the cache, data, factory reset
installed the ROM, it installed "successfully"
But when I reboot, the desire is rebooting all the time to the HTC logo.
Whats wrong?
Is the ROM incompatible with my phone?

to be honest i'm running out of ideas! you appear to have done all the steps correctly as far as I can see...
in the OP, it says "If you get problems with a flash, try to mount sd-ext in recovery before flash" but not sure if this will make a difference, might as well try, should be an option within clockworkmod.
you say you have flashed many ROMs, which ones? out of interest, when you switch off your phone and volume down + power, what does it say at the top of your bootloader screen?

i've run out of ideas to be honest, still looks like everything is set up correctly before flashing...and yet some other roms work fine.
last resort, assuming you have a nandroid backup and titanium backup of apps etc:
- flash 2.3.3 RUU to get it back to full stock
- s-off with revolutionary
- flash 4ext recovery, i recommend using fastboot
- (optional) change hboot to oxygenR2, again using fastboot
- full wipe again, and flash data++ version of rom.
at worst, if this rom still doesnt install, you'll still be s-off, so more flexbile flashing other roms.
