Excessive heat - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 4

Has anyone noticed excessive heat in the att n4?I've had phone 2 weeks and it seems to run hotter than my other phones. Is this common for n4?I haven't noticed my wife's n2 this hot.I wouldn't think it can be very good for battery life or screen life.I don't run anything to heavy.Nothing I haven't used on other phones.
Phone seems to function fine.just seems hot.

Mine also was running hot, found out indexing service was always running and gobbing up battery. Had to uninstall all my pdf files and all went away.

My Note 2 ran much hotter than my 4 does.

Mine only gets hot when charging or playing Asphalt 8 or Temple Run 2 or Super N64 Emmulator

Download 'Clean Master'. It tells you when its overheating, lagging, etc and gives you the option to kill those apps. Also helps you manage RAM. Must have app.
But you have to wonder, when will Android get to the point that this kind of app is not needed anymore.

[Q] Note 2 Overheating Problem

Hello XDA,
I have just bought Galaxy Note 2 (using the stock rom 4.1.2), on second day of use I have installed "Need for Speed Most Wanted". After playing about 15 minutes the upper part of Note 2 (around of the camera) started to heat up then I have stopped the app so on that it have returned to normal heat. I am so confused, do you suggest me to bring it back to store? or it is normal? have you ever had overheating on your Note 2 before?
(The mobile data was on, I was not running any apps on background, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi was off, brightness was full)
Thanks in advance!
When im playing nfs ..I also experience this one.. I guess it is normal..as long as the heat is tolerable and not too much

Thats where the exynos processor is!
It's a quad core'd beast phone without any external fans to cool off the heat. It would naturally get hot when playing GPU intensive games such as NFS.
In short its normal for it to get heated that much and all should be well.
Cheers!
And also lower your brightness.. it eats alot of battery considering nfs is also a power hog.. they will make your phone really hot

Yeah don't worry about it. Phones ALWAYS get warm when doing processor intensive things. The problem is that phones are getting thinner and thinner, and that means less and less room for the components to breathe! While it's fine and dandy that it's getting warm, it should never get too hot to handle. Otherwise, it's OK .
similar overheating problem
hey guys, i have a similar heating problem with my note 2 but it occurred after i rooted my phone with the toolkit. the overheating happens while just using the internet browser. has anyone had this problem after root?
thanks in advance.
I experienced the same last night when I played it from the external SD Card, not sure if it was the same when it was in the local sd..

Is the upper top half of the screen became hot also?
How hot is it.. because normally it will feel hot when playing games... try to imagine that a powerful 1.6 quad core is insertet inside a smartphone with no ventilation..

the screen also (top half of the screen) became hot is this normal?
Yea I can confirm the same thing while playing Modern Combat 4...not 5 minutes into the game and the heat starts to pick up.

I experience heating also while playing games like NFS, Osmos HD etc. I monitored the cpu temperature and I encountered temps from 55-60C so far. In stress tests I see around 75-80C. I think is kinda hot.

No, only the hind part around the camera lens. The front and/or upper (or even whole) part around the screen is normal. Surprisingly other 3D intensive games like Beach Buggy Blitz and Blood and Glory do not get that hot like when playing with Where is Perry? game, which is a 2D game, but I guess it is more CPU intensive.
These are not problems, the heat has to go somewhere. The cpu operates safely even at temperatures above 80.
If your phone suddenly gets hot for no reason, your cpu is spiking probably because an app didn't release its lock on a high cpu frequency. Kill the rogue app.

Do you have a source for showing the ideal temps for the cpu chip? I must confirm that 65C is normal under heavy load.

Any help.
I get the same when playing alot of HD games. This has been common since my G1 days.
Small device with the power of a computer and no fan its sure the generate heat.

Its normal. If ur rooted try underclocking the cpu. I underclock mine to 1.2ghz and its works all fine. No lag nothing.

Heating problems are common on intense graphic games.
And intense graphic games costs a lot of battery due to its high definition of course. :cyclops:

nexus 7 flo is overheating

Hi, my new nexus 7 stock rooted with adb is getting quite hot even when just browsing with chrome. Is this normal for this device? I just bought it yesterday so I can replace it if I need to. I am only hesetating because, Other than the heating issue, it is flawless: speakers, screen case everything perfect. What do you think I should do?

You should go replace it now, I get no overheating even when using overclocked kernels for fun. I have used mine for heavy gaming and have had no real heat to speak of... maybe the slightest warming of the back up on the top after long gaming session but not much certainly not "overheating"
Make sure your superuser is updated, including binary (launch supersu). It probably wouldn't hurt to go back to full, unrooted stock. You have modified it from stock after all...

I was doing hangouts with my gf and my tablet got so hot after ~15 minutes it shut off.
Yeah that is not normal. I game heavy on mine and it doesn't over heat.
I was chatting with a friend on Hangouts for nearly two hours yesterday and it just barely warm after we got done, i'd go exchange it!
My old Nexus 7's CPU reaches up to 75 degrees celsius under overclocked benchmarking and sunlight without shutting down because there is built in thermal throttling.

[Q] Tab getting really hot when sd card in

Just got my note today and it is getting really hot, whenever i put the micro sd card in it really starts to heat up behind where the camera sit. Also i have battery doctor installed and at 60% it says that i only have 2 and a bit hours left on the device.
Ive turned off alot of stock apps and also tried another launcher (nova) my battery just seems draining real fast, thinking maybe a bum unit.
Anyone having these problems or some advice?
My tablet gets hot too, but Samsung devices are notorious for getting hot.
I've owned an SGS2 before and it got hot in that same area, and I have two friends with SGS4's (one a regular and the other the SGS4 Active) and those also get hot.
Our (yours and mine) tablets should be OK.
They shouldn't be bum units.
As for battery life, go into Power Savings and enable the settings for screen and processor (I forget the exact wording).
You can also use Greenify to force anything in the background from running when not needed. (Anything you don't actually want, you should freeze/remove altogether like you said you did. Greenify just makes sure that anything you aren't using isn't running unnecessarily).
Hmmm ive had the s2, note 2 the original note 10.1 and the samsung 8.9 and never came accross and heat like this. I just dont understand why it is as soon as the sd is in, I aint even running any apps jus leave it aline and it heats up while sitting idle.
Damn thing lol

Take a look at this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2483944
You have a corrupt file on your external card. The indexing service is forcing all of the cpu cores, to max speed.

I though the same when i read the description. The sd-card is scanned the whole time, the cpu run in max speed, it heats up and the battery is used more then normal.

Note 7 temps

I got my phone a few days ago, and I'm somewhat dissapointed cause it always feels like it's running hot. I've never had this problem on my S7 edge. Just doing some browsing and its in the 94F range. Is this normal?
While it runs a little warm when charging, I've not noticed any excessive heat unless I'm doing something computationally intensive (Ex: transcoding video). But I know of one person that returned hers because of the heat. Have you checked to see if any applications are using excessive CPU cycles or are consuming the battery faster than others?

I haven't seen anything out of the ordinary. I'm barely using my phone to see if its gonna start to cool down but it's just consistenly in the 90F range with light use. I wanted to see how others experience are with their phones before I decide if I want to exchange it.

Depends on the ambient temperature, is that the temperature of the battery? If yes then it sounds ok to me.
You should download GSam and monitor the temperature. Since its made out of glass and metal, it will appear hotter to touch than a plastic phone.
Here ya go, note 7 recall due to fire Risk.
Samsung is recalling the Galaxy Note 7 worldwide over battery problem
http://money.cnn.com/2016/09/02/technology/samsung-galaxy-note-7-recall/index.html
Hope it doesn't explode lol
I would disable fast charging and turn on power saver.
Just to be safe.
Also don't wireless charge.
If yours is affected by the battery explosion issue, then don't risk it.
Wait for recall instructions and play it safe.
LOL. Yeah thanks guys, guess I'll return mine then and wait for them to make some new ones, sucks cause I really like the phone and already put in a screen protector and case
Boom!
