So I just got my LG G2 yesterday after having an HTC One without issues for a while. I had TWRP installed on the HTC One from day one, and am now trying to do the same on the G2.
The question I have is will TWRP work on the G2 if it is already on 4.4.2? This is the thread I found: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2522965
The One never had anything to do with different firmwares affecting how you install TWRP or anything like that so I'm making sure I don't do anything wrong and brick my phone after a day.
Some more info: I am already rooted using ioroot 25, as I said it is on 4.4.2, and if you guys need any other info let me know which info you need and I'll find it and post it up.
Thanks for the help!
I have tried using flashify to install TWRP 2.6.2.img file on my ls980 with 4.4.2 kitkat and it started to fastboot. After that i just used lg flash tools to revert my lg back to stock.

Twrp will not work on the zvc update. The loki exploit was shut down by lg.

Shoot, that's what I've got. Is there a way to install a Recovery or flash custom ROMs then? Or is it possible to downgrade my firmware still on ZVC?
To get recovery installed is kind of tricky right now. Some people have soft bricked or worse bricked but then they end up with no download mode on their phone. You can use the lg flash tool to downgrade to zva or zv8 and go that route to get twrp and run custom roms.

Oh boy, I may just wait it out until a little more stable version comes around, I don't wanna brick a brand new phone. Xposed will have to do for now haha.
Yeah that's what I'm doing. Flashing stuff for different devices for a while. Getting a few scares but always able to fix the phone, But g2 is turning out to be a different animal. There is some new partition in the update that is causing this problem with the download mode.Till the dev's get the zvc update figured out it even makes me a little leary of using the work arounds .
Well this just stinks! Finally have a day off to play around with my phone and now read I can't install a custom recovery. This is CaCa! :crying:

Yeah, that's how I feel. My HTC One was a breeze to use as far as TWRP and unlocking the bootloader, plus it was fairly hard to actually brick that phone. Until I get more familiar with the root scene on the G2 I don't want to try doing anything that could damage the phone.
Is it worth downgrading?

I have just switched carriers from Metro using the LG Esteem which I owned for 2 years waiting patiently for CM 10 to work. When I was researching the G2 I noticed all the roms available especially CM 11. I don't mind going through all the work to downgrade if in the end I will have a butt kicking rom that offers all that KK has plus?
If your flashaholic and like cm roms yes. I'm on stock rooted kit kat for now Not a real big fan of Cm roms. But that's just me.
I was wondering if there was some method for rooting the LG G3 on Android 5.0 (Lollipop). I've searched far and wide on the internet but have found nothing so far. I did see that there were methods for the Nexus devices but nothing for LG.
Would like this as well. I thought I could live a while without root.. Seems like I just can't. :crying:
I think that you can find already rooted lollipop version on the forum.
For now, i nowhere found any root options.
Sent from my LG-D855
now it's impossible to root lollypop via purpledrake, ioroot or other programs but you can flash a rooted bumped rom.
I'll wait for this.
Same situation here.
Planned to use the pre-rooted lollipop but to use it you need twrp on the phone. To get twrp you need first root. So its a dead end, a points on b and b points back on a, both needing the other present first.....
Maybe if you flash an older kdz, root it with any of the previous methods, then get twrp on the phone and then flash the pre-rooted lollipop. Im just gonna wait for a lollipoproot without twrp needed.

I am on 5.0 and tried purpledrake (since i used it with 4.4.2), but it did not work, i also tried Stump and got an error too. With 5.0 the structure has changed and the methods for KK are different to Lollipop. So far, even with Nexus, the only way to root is through bootloader/kernel.
Hopefully soon we will see a method that can bypass this.

Yup, thats the reason why i downgraded it to KK. Downgrade, root and you can install rooted L.

Does that work then? I'm on Lollipop 20a on the D855. If i install the KK kdz, will it make the phone rootable again? I read something to do with the boot loader not reverting back to how it was before lollipop

Use this guide to downgrade http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785089
(you can flash almost any KK KDZ, v10x of course, but make sure it's for your device)
Root it with your preferred root method (i prefer Purple Drake)
BUMP it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2900614
Now you can flash the bumped roms you'll like. Just make sure, it's for your device.

Someone was nice enough to upload a pre-rooted 13B image.

Remember, keep your rooted image on your phones internal storage incase something happens. You can always re-flash it. But if things go really wrong and you are already on 13B software, there is now a 13b KDZ available at the following link.

13B OTA update is ONLY for Verizon users. It will brick your phone if you try installing a different firmware on your phone than what its designed/intended.
You need to wait for your phone to get its OTA update notification. Then uninstall Xposed if you have it installed. Un-root by running KDZ for the CURRENT software version you have. Then take the OTA update. Then make your own proper system image (Step 1). Then using Ubuntu to inject root into the system image you made (Step 2). Lastly, root your phone with the rooted image you made (Step 3).
Any LG G4 can be rooted as long as you know what software version you have and can follow directions. Question I have for you is what software version do you have? Is it rooted? Do you have Xposed installed?
This thread will guide you through on how to do it, especially since you might need to make your own rooted image. Just READ all of it and FOLLOW all the directions.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/lg-g4-100-root-success-directives-root-t3180586
If you decide to root, remember to KEEP an image on your phone in case you get stuck on a bootloop tinkering with phone. Can then easily flash that image. Especially if a current KDZ for your software is not out.
Good luck

Why would Verizon ever send an update to non verizon users? You need to have a Verizon SIM card in your phone to be detected by verizon and receive the update I believe.

There seems to be some confusion..
Basically the question here is I have a Verizon LG G4 VS986(Running stock 11a) but using it with a different SIM card and thus stuck on 11a.
So is it possible to manually flash 13b kdz to upgrade to 13b
I know I am asking it again but just want to be sure as there are 2 opinions here in the thread.

That is good to know. Someone else posted on another forum saying they tried it, were having problems and it did not work. But glad to see it does. I think he and a few others thought it made sense that 13B KDZ is a full package that would update kernel and bootloader to latest version no matter the previous software version, but wanted to play it safe and not brick anyones phone.

i think you can try rooting with kingroot, then flashing twrp, then flash cm13. Though I have not tried this method before. From what I read kingroot only gives temporary root which lasts a reboot so you gotta download everything, root, install autorec from play store, then reboot into twrp and flash.
Don't try Autorec method on Marsmallow rom. It will hard brick your phone (it's hard to repair it for inexperienced user).
What I recommended is tot method for retrieving stock lollipop. Then you can try root and Autorec.

Do you want to make a clean downgrade to Android Kitkat from Marshmallow? From what I see, you're root. If you do not have recovery installed, you can install the official app of TWRP which does install the recovery. After that, download Kitkat official rom in format zip (look in xda threads) and formats your rom from the recovery. For example, the name of the rom for my variant (Lg g3 D851) is D85120G-Rom_Untouched_Stock_Restore.zip
