[Q] XBMC and remote home button - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys. Is there a way to disable the remotes home button when in xbmc?
Thanks

Need to know if you are rooted or not?
If you are rooted you can set XBMC as your launcher and then home is XBMC so it's effectively "disabled" as it only does something when you aren't already in XBMC.

No. Not rooted and unable to root at the moment. I'm in the UK

I'm pretty sure if you follow the llama instructions at the xbmc/kodi wiki the home button will take you to bmc or do nothing while allready there..

Out of the box, no. But I think I could add it to my Xposed module. I'll look into it tonight.
That would be awesome. Please let me know.

I just updated my module (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=54270469) to include a feature like this.
Thanks a lot. That was super quick.
Can you please let me know the location to place key_bindings.xml once created? Also, would this also work even if I am in XBMC and not Fire TV launcher.
Thanks again for your help with this.

It's a modification to the input layer of Android, so it will work in any app with any launcher.
Thanks. Is it possible to long press home button to open an app? If so what is the key code for long press home button on fire TV remote?

Long press home is set up to launch the Recents dialog. I guess I could modify it to allow you to override it. I'll put out a 1.2 a little later.
Thanks for your support man. This would make life so much easier for me as long press home button is ideal candidate to launch a defined app.

OK. I just uploaded 1.2 that allows you to set long press events on keys.
Thanks Man. If you don't think I am bugging you too much can you please post an example for long press home button key mapping.

I did... The example xml includes a long press and the description after it includes the keycode string for long press home.
You are awesome. I got it working. This is awesome. Thanks a lot. I just wish that the time of long press was a little longer but now I am being picky. Anyways, I really appreciate your help and wouldn't mind buying you a beer if you take donations.

Android controls the long press time. I just get a flag saying it was long of short. I used to have a donation link on some of my old stuff. If you want it... https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webs...=PP-DonationsBF:btn_donateCC_LG.gif:NonHosted
Sent donation on your way. Enjoy the beer on me.

Tips for new users?

I have just gotten a fire TV here in the UK today.
I've done a bit of searching and found out how to sideload APK's but can't find much on blocking updates to help with potential future rooting?
When i turned on the fireTV and connected wifi, it immediately wanted to update.
If i had blocked the updates first would I have been left with a rootable fireTV?
It would be good if there was a sticky post in this forum!
I've seen mention of some people using another app to get XBMC On the home screen, llama something?
cheers,
check here for XBMC launch methods: http://kodi.wiki/view/Amazon_Fire_TV#Launch_XBMC_on_the_Fire_TV
imo you should just go ahead and let the update happen. If a new root method is found it will likely be working on the latest version at the time.

I still can't get this to work with my android tablet or my iphone.....It doesn't find the Fire TV as a cast receiver. Anyone have a simple short step by step. It should be pretty straightforward to connect right.

To be honest, i havent used it much since i posted a quick thanks but yes it was pretty simple. Download the one right on the fire tv (i mean just search "local cast" and itll appear as an app.) Then when u launch it you be told where to grab the apk to install on your casting device (or maybe it was the one in the op?... I cant recall.) From there i think it just worked.
Maybe enable casting under display/cast screen?
It worked for me wifi to ethernet but if your aftv is on wifi try putting it and your device on 2.4ghz

search for mouse toggle for fire tv on google play. its not free but it works fine.
If your not prepared to buy the app follow my guide to downgrade your Fire stick to 5.0.5 if your Wukong remote works with that os version.

Mouse toggle works on OS 5? I bought it awhile ago but stopped working when i updated to 5. Really find it essential for file explorer and occasionally xfinity tv app. Dont use it often but hate connecting a mouse just for a simple click now & then.

Yes, The app is compatible with the latest Fire TV OS but it needs to be updated. Here is a link with the directions to update the Mouse Toggle app:

If you have any issues please send a email to the address in the app.

Yes there is one....
It is there...
An app called "remote for fire TV" by guidology.
It is available on Amazon app store.
But it is a paid app. But way cheaper than purchasing any wireless or airmouse.
I have a favor to ask.
The client app (the one which installs on your phone) isn't available anywhere online for poor people like me to try before buying.
If anyone has bought this app after reading my post.
Please consider posting the phone app's link in a reply to my post.
Thank you.

The posting of paid apps (cracked premium etc) is against xda rules
I'm sure you can use the power of Google to find what you need

Do your own dirty work. You download Aptoide!:good:
Give this a try. It has an option to use a mouse with your smart phone to control Amazon Fire TV. I like it better than the mouse toggle app.

voice not working on air mouse T3 and shield tv

I've got two of two of these from two vendors. Both of them have mics. Everything works out of the box but the voice search. Anybody here with the same issue? Solution? Thank you.
FYI- Most of those t-3's and mx3's do not have the mic I would test it on another system .
I have bought about a dozen plus from ebay trying to find ones with mics that worked.. It was a no go.

I use one of these same remotes (possibly different vendor, lot of different versions on Amazon) with my Shield TV and am able to use the voice input and searching. Out of the box it was also not working as others described, but then I installed MKR (can be installed from the web version of the play store directly to the Shield. See link below) to map the keys on the remote and was able to get it to function perfectly. Can use the voice search just like the standalone Shield remote and gamepad. Plus you can configure every other button as well. Example, I have the Red button open Netflix, yellow button launches Plex, Green button Hulu, ect.. Remote is pretty damn awesome with the shield after mapping the buttons how I wanted. Give it a shot.
**I was unable to post the direct link, but just search for "Multilanguage Keymap Redefiner" on the Play Store.

Thanks for your reply.Voice on the remote is not a function that is assigned to a button. I'll give it a try but it is possible that your remote is more capable than mine.

On my version of the remote when you are prompted for voice input i have to hold down the mic button while i talk. For example if im on youtube and i go to the search section it will prompt me to say somthing then i hold down the mic button talk and then release the button.

Not to sure about the shield ir as i have the 1st gen. I have programmed the IR for my tv and sound bar.
I also recommend to remap buttons in android https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=flar2.homebutton
Alot of buttons on the remote are pointless and i never use so i have remapped them to quick launch apps red=youtube yellow=iplayer green=all4 blue=terrarium/kodi and i have also remapped the search button to bring up google assistant. You can also remap as long press our double tap. Thats what i did for the blue button press=terrarium long press=kodi.

i can guarantee that this control does not operate search by voice on the shield
what happens a lot of times is that staff speaks and the voice is captured by the shield's original controllers
there is no voice control t3 and yes the original control that is capting your voice
if you remove all original commands in shield settings you will see that the t3 voice command does not work
