Hi all,
I have searched through the forums to see if I can find a fix for my problem but no joy. I'm probably using the wrong terminology in my searches as I cannot find anything on google either.
Basically I use twitter, like many others, to keep up to date with news in my industry sector, in fact it's a very important source for me. To do this I use the "Mobile Notifications" feature which sends a notification to my phone everytime one of my selected people who I follow tweets.
I used to have a Samsung Galaxy S4 and these notifications worked perfectly. I now have an LG G3 and they do not.
Please note, I am not talking about @ mentions, likes or retweets, they all work fine, it's simply the mobile notifications whenever someone else tweets who I have selected to receive notifications.
These are the settings I have checked:
Checked background data: On
Twitter > Settings > @Myaccount > Notifications : ON
Twitter > Settings > @Myaccount > Notifications > Tweets : TICKED (Plus all accounts)
Twitter > Settings > @Myaccount > Sync Data : ON
Whenever I change my phone these settings are the ones I check to make sure I get my notifications but it doesn't work in this case.
I receive push notifications for my other apps but not twitter.
The phone isn't rooted. It's on 4.4.2.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys
Mark

I posted my question on other threads but no one has answered. So I'll ask it here. For some strange reason, I can't log into facebook w/Sense. When I go to Add account...I input all username, password etc. and then I get the message that this service is unavailable.
I Googled this and people and it was postings of people saying to check your Facebook Privacy settings. I checked them and everything appears to be ok. facebook for Android works fine but not Facebook w/ Sense.
So do anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
I had the same problem.
Go to Facebook > Account > Privacy Settings > Applications and Websites (Edit Your Settings) > Turn On platform applications

Factory data reset or if you have a custom recovery wipe and start from fresh or just simply try rebooting phone. Just a suggestion

Yeah..I tried that and it's still a no go. I get the same message "this service is unavailable.
I also tried a a clean wipe and fresh install of my rom, factory reset as well as turning the phone on and off. And neither of those worked either.
Hey everyone.
As the topic says, I'm wanting to know if you can put a password on your text messages. I had a quick google browse and I couldn't find anything. People like to pick up my phone and go through it, I don't mind that, but I don't like people reading my messages. I'm sure there are other people like this, I don't want a password on the phone, just the messages. If anyone knows how it'd be greatly appreciated.
Cheers.
Maybe give TXTcrypt from the marketplace a go.

Handcent?
I don't use Handcent SMS anymore but I remember it has a password protect function. I see a thread over on droidforums complaining that the first few words of the texts still show in the status bar, though. Have you tried Handcent?
Edit: Just looked over on Cyrket and I see EStrongs Security Manager will password protect individual apps. Looks promising.
Handcent only shows the words in the notification bar if set to do so, just untick the "privacy" box in settings and it will no longer be a problem.
Handcent > Settings > Notification settings > Notification settings > Privacy mode.
I'm using "App Protector Lite"
It does exactly what I want it to do! If anyone else is interested, you can password or pattern(like lockscreen) protect ANY application!
It's great
Hi all,
Sorry if this is old news - but its new to me!
Whilst doing some random googling i stumbled accross another forum where a chap had posted a "fix" he had found regarding the lack of push facebook notifications with the official face book app.
Up untill now it has been the one feature for me that has really let android and my phone down.
I am not sure of the rules on posting link to other forums so I will not do that, though I will run throught the basics below.
This worked for me as well as many others on the other forum. Notifications are instant and I have the polling set to never in the FB app.
You need either a blackberry phone, or to download a blackberry phone simulator to make this work.
1) log out of the FB app on your phone
2)from home screen goto settings, applications, manage applications, facebook and clear data and cache
3)log into your facebook account on a blackberry phone and enable notifications on it. Then log out
4) log into facebook on your PC, goto Account settings (click on down arrow next to "home")
5) click on "notifications on the left hand side"
6) scroll down towards bottom of page and click on "other applications" - click on this, you should now have "facebook for blackberry smart phones" - make sure there is a toick next to this
7) log back into the FB app on your galaxy
8) go into setup, uncheck notifications, then recheck notifications
9) set refresh interval to never
10) that should be it
This honestly works 100% for me and other on the other forum. The notifications are instant and it even shows different icon in your notification bar for different types of post (ie wall post or message)
I am running CM7.1 and FB 1.7.2
This seems to work on a wide range of handsets/android platforms.
I dont know how this works. One suggestion is the permission/software the blackberry enables on the FB server is generic for mobile devices and that it is somehow "mising" from the FB app,
All i know is it works for me,
I take no credit or responsibility for this,
I hope this helps somepeople out as it was driving me nuts!
again my thanks to the original poster on the other forum
regards,
anthony
off topic but, i never installed the app because it requires practically every permission in existence, really don't trust it, knowing facebook's privacy issues
fair enough,
but the one thing that has always ruined its usability is the lack (or poor at best) notifications.
untill now anyway (for me at least)
regards
This worked for me for a while. However, I've stopped getting notifications again
forget the original facebook app, use friendcaster

I found friend caster just as bad to be honest,
is facebook really that hard to write a good app for ?

Did it stop working after an update for FB?
Try this login to your FB account and go to "Account Settings". On the left hand side click "Notifications". Scroll down and you should see one near the bottom that says, "Other Applications". Click that and in there you should see "Facebook for BlackBerry® smartphones" If there is a check mark in the box, then un-check and hit save. Then re-check the box and hit save again. You're done and the notifications will start working again. If there is no check mark then add it and click save. Viola FB notifications should be working again.
Hey all. I'm trying to figure out why I'm not getting my Facebook Notifications. I have everything turned on for them in the app and in phone settings. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled the app. Any suggestions on a fix? Anyone else getting this? Thanks.
Go into Settings -> Sound and Notification -> "Apps" in notification sub section and see if facebook is in there if its not thats the reason, if its not there go into facebook and open the menu (hold the Square) -> Settings -> Notifications and check if they are all on, hopefully that should sort it
My settings are all correct, but I don't get any notifications either.. Although, this was the same issue as my G2.

No dice. Everything seems correct in the settings. Any other ideas?
While we're on topic, does anyone have issues loading FB while on WIFI? It's like it never refreshes..

Not that I can tell.
Not got any other idea's sorry, Maybe contact Facebook (if they have a support line??)
Nope not got any issues with it loading on Wi-Fi
TTT.
I had that issue, but rolling back updates, disabling, enabling, then updating seems to have fixed it.

It's fine even if Facebook updates on its own?
I'm not sure what you mean. Follow my steps, and see if it helps.
It is the phones fault. Both s6 and g4 have same issue. Push notifications rarely work due to aggressive sleep policies to save battery. Sucks.

What kind of notifications are we talking here?
Because I notice fb has a 1, or a 2 for a notification. But I don't actually get it on my phone, and the notification is really just some random person liking the top post on a group page. That isn't really considered a real notification so I'm glad for that, but it does still count as one or whatever according to the monkey developers at facebook. (Seriously that number beside the app activates my hidden OCD)
I'm able to get the real notifications (ie. comments). So I think it depends on what you're referring too here.
Right, I'm not getting "real notifications" when there are comments.
Hi
i have xiaomi mi5s (miui global 8.0.3.0 stable) and i dont get push notification form the gmail app.
i try all the instructors that i found at the internet and nothings fix it, is there somone that know haw to fix it?
i try this steps:
1: Go to settings --> manage apps' battery usage --> choose apps. From there, pick all the apps you want to receive push notifications and select "No restrictions."
2: Go to settings --> permissions --> autostart. From there, pick the apps you want to receive notifications, and toggle the switch to turn it on.
3: Go to settings --> app notifications --> pick the apps you want to receive notifications, then turn the toggle for "Priority" on.
4: Lock the app in the "recent apps"/ "app overview" plane. Do so by first opening the apps, then press the "recent apps/overview button" (that's the square button on stock Android, or the button with three horizontal lines on the Mi Mix). From there, find the app you want to receive notifications, pull down on it to "lock it", so it never gets cleared.
5: This last step requires Developer Options privileges. To enable that, go to settings (man... I'm getting tired of typing "go to settings" ...) --> about phone
--> tap on MIUI version tab like eight times. You should then get a little message saying "you are now a developer." Then head back out to settings, go to developer option, scroll to nearly the bottom, find "memory optimization," and turn it off.
Mine does the same sometimes it's intermittent.
Things like this is why I never use Miui, its a horribly crippled version of Android that just makes life more difficult unnessesarily if you live in a country that allows free access to a service called Google
Never own a Xiaomi phone without removing Miui and replacing with a ROM that works in the real world
i wtire this comment for who will need this solution.
i secceeded to fix the push notification problem by the following
1:I changedmy rom to original miui rom (mine was fake) now i have 8.0.3.0 global
2: go to setting -> sync -> and disabled "wifi only" and enable "sync"
3: Go to settings --> permissions --> autostart. From there, pick the apps you want to receive notifications, and toggle the switch to turn it on.
4: Go to settings --> manage apps' battery usage --> choose apps. From there, pick all the apps you want to receive push notifications and select "No restrictions."
hope it will help..
Also have a look here for some more context: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-5s/how-to/miui-kills-background-processes-solution-t3532397
The guys above me pretty much summed it up - setup autostart for the Gmail app and Google service frameworks, disable MIUI memory optimization and lock the Gmail app (menu button --> slide the app thumbnail down and click the lock icon).
Having done all of this, the push notifications are fine. I use the EU rom 7.3.30 (weekly).
Hi,
I have a brand new Mi 6 which im loving (running the standard default theme), however i have a bit of a problem with Gmail.
Im getting all the notifications, no problem at all. However, the floating notifications do not show a preview of the email i have received for Gmail. I get a floating popup, but all it shows is that i have a new email, it does not show who sent the email or the subject line, nothing.
All my other floating notifications are fine. Whatsapp, outlook, facebook etc, all of them show the floating notification with a small preview of what the message is.
Anyone else experiencing this? any ideas?
I have ALL settings correctly set to receive all the notifications, floating, etc and as i said, i DO receive notifications, they just dont show a preview specifically for Gmail. Im using latest Global Rom by the way.
