AT&T Note Edge Pre-Order is live - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 4

I just ordered mine in Charcoal, but White seems to be available, after it was said to be coming later. I have a tentative ship date of 11/13.
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

I'm still hold it not ordering the Note 4 to see Note Edge. Now i'm not sure if $100 extra worth it for the small curve screen. Stop by couple ATT store today but none of them have the Note Edge display model
Also kind of waiting for the ATT Note 4 to have root

When both phones were announced the Edge appealed to me because it was so different. I decided against it for a couple of reasons.
Price. It's the same as the Note 4 so you're literally paying for the "edge."
Awkwardness. Cases, docks, covers, and GPS mounts are going to be odd and not optimized for the display. I use a car mount and can imagine how goofy the Edge will look in it.
Updates. Samsung has terrible track record of updating their "limited availability" devices; even worse than their mainstream devices. Add AT&T to the mix and it's scary.
Software. There's a nifty API developers can take advantage of to maximize the Edge's "edge." How many will with so few sold? And regular apps are going to look funny on an unbalanced display - "flat" on the left side, "shiny curved black border" on the right.
People should buy what makes them happy but, for me, this is the first time in my mobile device purchase history I went practical (Note 4) over intriguing (Edge).

Wholeheartedly agree! I was so psyched to learn about it at first but upon reading about the device, all of your points quickly became apparent to me as well. One thing DEFINITELY worth mentioning is the different materials used, plastic-based over metal-based was the biggest drawback to me. I believe originally it was $50 more as well.

I'll probably trade my note 4 plus boot off for one

I totally agree with you. I'm getting one, but it's foolish not to consider all of your points before deciding if this is for you. I have had the first 3 Notes and honestly the Note 4 did not excite me. The 2 phones that excite me are the Edge and the Nexus 6. But I can't live with a 64gb phone with no removable battery and no card support. So that leaves the Edge. I'm keeping my Note 3 and trying out the Edge. If it doesn't work out, I'll trade it or return it.

There probably wasn't much there to begin with. It's more likely "limited supply" rather than "massive demand" that led to a sell out.

I wonder if AT&T will let people trade in the Note 4 for the Note Edge???

As long as the phone is in their system then you should be able to trade it in.

I'm still a bit unsure if I will like the Note Edge, but I figured I would try it. In the store they said I could trade in my online purchased Edge in store for the Note 4 if its within the 14 days for a $35.00 restocking fee. So if it's been within 14 days I don't see the issue.
And if your on AT&T next, you could probably pay out the remainder if you've had it longer then 14 days, and upgrade with nothing down but taxes.

My note edge will be here on the 23rd or maybe sooner can't wait for this awesome device.

If you pay the remaining amount for the Note 4, then wouldn't the trade in value be maximum $300 from AT&T?

If you pay the remained and then upgrade, you do not give them back the Note 4, you would then go sell the Note 4 and cut your losses I guess is what he is saying. I am within my 14 days by a lot still so personally I am thinking about going in and giving them this Note 4 back , eating the 35 dollar restock fee and then getting a N6 and paying 8 dollars less a month. My reasoning is just I cannot have an Android device without root.

You might as well purchase the device for the Retail price

really ? it looks odd , geeks like me will love it

I can handle the extra lag going from Nexus 5 to touchwiz but I had to return my edge because of the lag opening folders/apps from the edge panel. It drove me freaking nuts.

Just ordered mine from ATT today, should be here sometime this week, excited! Like someone said before, I got it because it's different, smartphones are all getting to be about the same these days, and my rooted Note 2 was still working well for me, did everything I wanted and needed, really had no incentive to upgrade until I saw the Edge!

Just got my Edge in the mail today! But not opening it til Christmas. For one, I feel bad having a new phone while my wife still has a old one (ill be getting her a iPhone 6) and for two, im probably get nothing for Christmas, this will be my only present

[Q] Should I buy the Note 2 again?

I bought the AT&T Galaxy Note 2 a few times before returning to my iPhone 5. I have grown to hate my iPhone 5. The only thing I love it about are the cases I have. It has AppleCare+ on it which I really like but that's not cutting it. The phone has a very loose power button which causes a rattle. My iPhone 5 has also had dust in the camera lens since day one. Call me OCD but I've actually gone through about 5 iPhone 5's since sticking with this one. Apple QC is absolutely atrocious. I've had my issues with Samsung phones but not like Apple.
I absolutely hate the screen on the iPhone 5. I hate it!!! I don't think I can wait until the Galaxy S4. I want to be back on the Android ecosystem so that way I will have an easy transition to the S4. I also loved the S Pen, as I've had the Note 2 before. I returned it because I was bothered by the lack of cases and support for it. I always go back to that pathetic iPhone.
So is the Note 2 still worth it in Feb 2013? I don't think any other phone can come close in performance yet?

Not sure if you want to wait a little bit but some signs point to a new Note 3 soon (but if it comes to AT&T, it might be a little bit before it reaches these shores). Otherwise, there have been some really good deals @ Best Buy and such. Or... you know... stick with your iPhone, you sheep LoL

I feel that you'll be fine because I don't think the s4 could replace your Note 2. The only reason why I say this is because of that extra half inch that the note would provide. For sure the s4 will be a lot quicker than the note 2 but was the note 2 ever slow to begin with. I also feel the same way with my i phone 5. I went from iPhone 5 on Sprint to s3 on ATT then the iPhone 5 on ATT then I am using the Note 2 on ATT now. I feel that since in previously years I've been using strictly Apple on my devices switching to the s3 and note 2 is real "innovation."
I also feel the same about the lack of any real nice cases for the note compared to the iPhone.
All in all I think you'll be fine if you decide to pickup another note.

I was hoping to get the Note 2 until the S4 comes to AT&T to hold me over. I wonder if the Note 2 is selling higher than the iPhone 5?

Both are $199 (2 year agreement) with a $50 gift card from Best Buy... with the $50 gift card, that's the best deal out at this moment (changes every week everywhere)
Edit: But of course, if you're buying outright, shop around... Amazon has some pretty decent prices

It would be outright. Can't seem to find the AT&T version outright anywhere but AT&T. The N1700 is fine but I have full AT&T LTE here.

You can basically get the phone at any retail shop outright but they never go on "sale" outright. Check the websites, click on the phones, then select the "no contract" option and it will show you the full price (e.g. Best Buy... btw not trying to push them it's just that I was doing the same thing you are a few days ago for another phone... has the Note 2 AT&T for $799.99 and the iPhone 5 outright for $699.99 16gb on both). As for the international version, I'm not too sure how this will work out with that retarded bill that passed about unlocks and whatnots.

AT&T has the best price. $649.99. Best Buy I wanna say is $799? :0
I buy phones outright all the time so I'm pretty familiar with it. I just can't find anything cheaper than $649 anywhere.
No way the Note 3 is due this Spring. The Note series is typically released late Summer / early Fall. I expect the Note III in Aug / Sept.
Now the Galaxy S phones are released in late Spring mostly. The S IV is rumored for a April worldwide release. And May U.S. release.
I would get the Note 2 right now, best phone ever. And the S-pen rocks. Amazing battery life, super fast smooth.
Or if you gonna wait, wait for the Note 3 = better upgraded version of the S4, bigger screen + S-pen.

Yeah that's insane! AT&T is the way to go... damn I should look there (I for no reason at all assumed they'd be the priciest)
If you live in a fairly big city you should look on Craigslist for yours. I was so ready to pay ATTs price of 649.99 but then someone on Craigslist sold me a brand new one for 500.... Honestly I couldn't be happier with this phone, love it.

I don't trust craigslist phones myself and like the option of maybe returning it if i need to. I would go to att and t and buy from them. It is the cheapest price around that I found. I checked best buy and Amazon. Best buy was ridiculous. I ened up buying outright from at and t..not happy about the $710 but such is life. Resale on the Iphone will be way better for a longer period of time.

Let me get this straight. You went back to an inferior product (iPhone5) because of the lack of cases. What are you, a 12 year old girl?
Yes the Note2 holds up very well, in fact I think it will be topic spec even next year.

The $50 offer is with doing an upgrade through best buy mobile. Nothing to do with the actual price of the phone. **** you could upgrade to a free phone and get a $50 gift card. And is that really your determining factor for whether we'd stay in business or not. Lol not that I care much because I'm almost done my degree but BBY is gonna be around for a while. Even if it doesn't get your support. Still the number one electronics retailer in the world. That just isn't a super strong statement right now.

Nono... Just a strong observation from a former employee of many years who has seen bad decision after bad decision over the last decade and got off the boat before it tries to turn itself into radio shack when they themselves are failing. There wasn't much money in the bank when I left and looking at the last 2 quarters, it dwindles down even further as the stock that used to be around 40 went down to 15 (almost to 10 last week) in a very short amount of time. Guess who went through the same thing? CompUSA and Circuit City and what you get left is either a buyout which would shrink the company to make a profit it would need to stay viable, or bought out to be Amazon's showroom for a fee instead of free like it is now. The more BBY/BBYM price matches, the more profit margin is lost so that money has to come from their bank to break even. Keep on this track and it will go off a cliff. Don't get me wrong, I want BBY to survive and all but becoming Radio Shack is not the way to go.
Congrats on your degree! You can now watch from the outside instead of in objectively.

Feeling great! I just got a brand new note for $550

So I just finished winning from eBay my Note 4 for $550 shipped. I was just sniping deals and putting in low bid offers and picked one up.
FYI search for Note IV because people rarely use it to list things it doesn't pop up on eBay's radar to promote it. Anyways I'm ecstatic, I'm coming from a note 2 which I love so I hope this fills my note 2's shoes. I can't wait for custom software.

That is about all it's worth without the ability to root and Rom....I would not even pay that much.
It's a little different in this community but $550 for a note 4 is still a great deal if you can deal without root for a while. I'm talking to a guy about buying his t-mobile note for 550 but only because he owes payments on it & can't use it on T-Mo anymore. I'm just gonna unlock it for at&t so it's a win win
Hell ya. Maybe I should post my Note 4 locked down bastard on ebay since it's sitting in the drawer.

Worth upgrading to note 7

Hey
So I have tmobile jump on demand, got the s7 edge like 4 months ago and it's a beast of a phone. Wondering what your guys opinion is if it's worth getting the note 7
Sadly I don't think it's much of an upgrade from s7 edge
But i still couldn't resist pre ordering it. I have the s7 edge will let it go to my Mrs and sell her s6 edge plus
Still can't wait till it gets delivered lol

If you have JOD, why wouldn't you do it? T-Mobile will do it for $70. I have one more JOD, for this year, and I'll probably do it once more. I love the S7 edge and getting a new Note 7 @ $900 for so little means I'll love this one too.

I still have to pay a down payment? When I got JOD for the edge, rep said I only pay down payment once and whenever I upgrade to something else, I don't need to pay my down or tax anymore
I'm also a JOD customer, and when I originally pre-ordered the phone it was with a $70 dollar deposit. Long story short I had to upgrade to an S7 Edge when my note 5 stopped charging and i was headed out of town and needed the phone. That included cancelling the pre-order.
When I called back, I was told that exact thing. As a JOD customer, I don't have to pay the down payment. I honestly asked to go back to the $70 down to lower the monthly and they said it wasn't possible anymore for JOD. So maybe he/she did it before they came out with the updated pricing for JOD customers.
Now, all that being said. I've had the s7 for about a week and a half and do love the phone but am missing the stylus as I've been an avid note user since my first Note 3. My fiance was originally going to do the Note 7 but she liked the phone I have so much she's going to go for the s7 Edge instead. I'm definitely upgrading because of the stylus, slightly larger screen, and iris scanning. And, I'm actually surprised to be looking forward to the Edge screen because I wasn't sure I'd even like it coming from the Note 5.

Yea i called tmobile and they said i had to pay a 70 downpayment and if i dont, my monthly payment is 38$ which is absurd. I was under the impression that when i'm on JOD, i could get the phone at their regular monthly pricing without paying the down, otherwise not worth it
Note5 here... Its pretty much the same thing... A bit faster, a bit better camera, a bit bigger battery and a screen that's a bit curvy-er

Yeah it's worth the upgrade the note is actually a computer and has a lot more access you need MSN Excel PowerPoint all of the above.. ... .z. . x.... .
Over on android forum a guy just pasted a price of £740 on release in the UK. Lol
If I sell my S7E I probably would have to stump up another 300 quid for the addition of a pen.
I'll enjoy my superb Edge a little longer until prices have dropped ... or the S8 is announced .
Motorola V20 might be interesting too.
Not until they fix the awful memory management, if any.
Coming from Note 4 or 5, probably yes, from s7e u probably better wait for V20 or any other phone.
IMHO these questions are ones that only You can answer.
From what device you are upgrading from? what you want from phone? Which values you more, Note 7 or the money you need to use for it.. And so on.
S7 Edge Exynos user here,
I was expecting to buy the Note 7 in launch but it is not offering enough reasons to make a switch. First and most important of all, i wanted to get rid of EDGED curvy display but it is still there in note7. The cpu/gpu and ram is the same.Camera havent changed. I dont find spen any use. Unless they release a Note 7 with flat screen, exynos 8893 and 6gb of ram, better and higher mp camera, i will wait for S8 to be released. Hopefully they would release the S8 with 5.5inch flat display.
I think it's worth it but you need to really take a close look at what you use your phone for/want to use your phone for. I think the Note 7 has a lot to offer if you plan to use it in a certain way (basic example: would you use a stylus?).

Will you loose a upgrade cycle if you return your note 7?

I am going to try to find a phone number or a email address for somebody with some real power at Samsung and/or Sprint. Here's why
If I turn in my Samsung note 7 and get say a S7. 1) Samsung really doesnt loose anything. A S7 cost about the same as a Note 7 and probably cost the same as the s7 to make which is way less than what they sell it for. 2) I paid off y note 4 to get my 7... so now when the S8 and/or note 8 comes out I will still owe 1 years worth of payments on what ever phone I have at that time. Why should I have to shell out when it was Samsung that screwed up. At that rate Samsung gets all of their money for the S7 and gets more money because I got the S8. Somebody needs to take this up with Samsung and the carriers. If I find some contact information I will
Why not just get a refund?

Agreed, I'm on att next, which works for me because I always grab the newest phone. So why should I have to guve this phone back, get locked into "last year's model" (yes i know it didnt come out last year) that I purposely didn't grab when it came out, and miss the next new option, like the s8 when this is the phone i chose to give my s6 edge + up for, sure as hell not gonna grab another s6 edge + and pay it half off again after i paid off half the last one and turned it in for this phone.
I feel like i should be able to skip to the s8 when it drops if i want to, as long as i get a samsung phone in place of my note 7 they should do a temp contract to allow us to upgrade early. Honestly id rather just keep the Note 7 and upgrade to tge Note 8 next year as planned, aside from the s6 edge +, I dont really care for the S series, I'm a note guy and have been since the note 1. But because of all of this i gotta use my upgrade to get an "old" phone I passed over? Because i highly doubt ATT is gonna send my half paid off S6 Edge + back, so I'm basically phoneless.
At this pouny im thinking about just buying a cheap samsung outright to use, i dont want to lose Gear S3 capabilities whenever that drops, so I'm stuck with Samsung until the next upgrade, ill let my VR collect dust if i have to, but I'm patiently waiting for that S3, grabbing another brand phone or like OnePlus3 just isnt an option. Samsung or bust.

The very reason why I paid off my Note 4 (I only had a few more payments left anyways) rather than trading it in as an upgrade is so I would be able to keep the Note 4 and use it as backup if necessary (I know it defeats the purpose of plans like ATT's Next, but I like to keep what I own and regard those plans similar as the old 2 year contracts). If I decide to return the Note 7, I will go back to my Note 4 to avoid being stuck or owing another year of payments on a phone that I don't want to begin with. Why not do the same? Get a refund on your Note 7 and go back to the 4 for a few months?
I gave my 4 to my mom. I'd rather fight with Sprint and Samsung than take something back from my mom
I'm in the same situation. My wife and I had the Moto x 2014. We got the note 7 and like a day later a cat knocked hers off the counter and shattered the screen. I thought of buying a cheap phone for her and both of us waiting it out for at least the S8 edge, but then I don't know what will happen to the deal I got for the geat s2 or the freebies from Samsung. There has Been absolutely nothing from either at&t or Samsung. I haven't gotten an email or text. Nothing. So is this phone really being recalled? Are they waiting to see if people will flock to trade it in before they offer anything? I would love to get a loaner s7 and then be able to upgrade within the next year. That to me sounds fair, given the bull**** everyone has gone through. But I don't want to be stuck with an already six month old phone. I love this phone an honestly it breaks my heart a little to part with it. The only reason I will is because of updates and possibly no warranty. I don't believe I'm at risk for fire.
That's where im at. If they can say i can upgrade to the new note or whatever next August, id do it in a heartbeat. Until then, im fine with this.
Verizon canceled what I owe on my payments for my Note 7, which made my account available for upgrade. So I upgraded and selected an S7 Edge. I assume once they receive my Note 7 back in the mail I will receive a refund on the taxes I paid for the Note 7 and another $25 credit.
ATT will reset the upgrade cycle as well.

Yeah but once you upgraded (or rather, downgraded), you lost your upgrade for when the S8 or another device comes out, that's a bit what the OP was after I'd think. Once you change to another phone on a plan, your plan will reset.

I am month to month with an unlimited data plan, if I pay off my phone ( & sell on craiglist) I can upgrade.
Here with bell in canada you go back to where you were before you started your contract. so if you had none, you will be switched to a month to month plan meaning off contract.

Ahhh ok, forget what I said lol
Guess I could do the same, but I'm not 100% on paying 600-700 for an older device :/

Basically losing an upgrade?

So basically, if we go an exchange it for an S7 Edge, we are essentially screwed until we have that paid off and cannot get the new note, or whatever Phone they have with a stylus when it comes out. This is mainly the reason why im keeping my note 7, until something goes wrong with it. Its yet to get hit, and im constantly monitoring it. If they say we can upgrade early like we could've with this one, Id be all over it. Until then, kiss my ass Verizon and Samsung

And its exactly why im keeping it until other wise. Verizon tried screwing me on my Unlimited data, even though i didnt use the upgrade on the Unlimited line. Not happening again.

It should be unlimited anyway imo. Just another way for them to make more money. I'm going back to the iPhone myself....RIP Note 7
This is what I'm concerned about too. I don't want to use my upgrade to downgrade to an older phone. Maybe we could convince them to just let us use the S7 edge temporarily and keep our upgrade and use it when the s8 or another note comes out?
Meeee Tooooo!
They aren't leaving me much choice.... I'm about to place the order for the S7E walking into a local store to at least look at the demo first..
Not only are we losing an upgrade but we are also forced to purchase 2 devices within a year (replacement to Note) and whatever the next upgrade is. Not pleased with this scenario as I had waited through the S6, Note 5, and S7 for a device I wanted. My S4 is barely hanging on so that isn't an option either. Not happy.
This is the reason I'm going with the Pixel XL 128 gig. It's the best new phone out. The S7E is a viable option, but I sold mine to get the Note, so I am not wasting an upgrade. Iphone isn't an option for me
I was thinking about calling Samsung today to vent and see if I could get them to send me a free s7e then I wouldn't have to go through Verizon and use my upgrade.
I've been in touch with Tami Erwin's (VP of Verizon Wireless) executive office and I've complained about this very issue. Essentially losing an upgrade for a device like the S7 Edge, as it's not my first choice (the Note7 was) and it's now 7 months old and does not qualify for the annual upgrade anymore. It seems Samsung and Verizon have stopped that with Samsung smartphones now. So to me the closest experience to the Note7 is the S7 Edge, but it's quite a bit older and my second choice. They are supposedly looking into changing this and might let people keep their upgrades. I'd suggest the more who call in and complain to the executive office, the better chance we have of getting to keep our upgrades for the S8 or next Galaxy after that in the fall.

I just spoke with a Verizon rep (via online chat). According to her, we are still eligible for the annual upgrade program after exchanging the Note7; however, the annual upgrade date will be from the date the new device is activated NOT the date we purchased the Note7. - This makes sense, as one of the stipulations of the annual upgrade agreement was that 50% of the device (Note7) had been paid off. On that note, she also confirmed that any device received in exchange for the Note7 can be upgraded prior to the one-year-mark, as long as it has been activated and has been in use for 30 days, and 50% of the balance has been paid off.
I feel a lot better knowing that if I downgrade to the S7 Edge, I can pay an extra sixty bucks come August and still preorder the Note8 (assuming there will be one).
I love this device too much. I will not use my upgrade to downgrade. Device is too perfect. If it goes, so do I. I designed a special headband to hold the note 7 firmly against my forehead while I sleep so if it explodes we both leave together.

What response did they provide? I feel the same way. I have to downgrade to a device I don't want and is now "old" from the device I waited several cycles for. I'm not pleased with having to downgrade and lose an upgrade due to faults not my own.
Yeah this is bad. We need to put our heads together and figure out a loophole or something. Goal is to obviously keep our upgrade available for when the s8 or new note comes out. Or preferably, keep the note 7 until s8 or new note then get refund and upgrade to new device but if they really set a recall deadline it kinda screws that plan...
The annual upgrade stopped for people who bought phones after 9/10/16. Had to buy a s7 prior to that date to be able to upgrade at the 50% mark

Correct... And a lot of us bought our original Note 7 on or before 8/19/16... So wouldn't the logical thing to do be: let the people who exchange the Note 7 for an S7 or S7E be grandfathered into the yearly Samsung upgrade so long as the Note 7 was purchased prior to 9/10/16?
There is a difference between the standard Verizon one year upgrade and the Samsung specific yearly upgrade, isn't it? I'm under the assumption that the Samsung specific one matches half of your paid cost so long as you've got half already paid on it, to effectively wipe the balance so you can upgrade to a newer Samsung without continuing to pay the other half on the first. But I may be totally misinformed on that.

Per my discussion with Verizon (see attached screen shot), this is what they're doing.

well its great that "Jessica" thinks we can upgrade but unfortunately this is not an official position yet and many verizon representatives have stated the opposite so this is till a crapshow.
That looks like the standard upgrade policy, going into effect at the date of the replacement's activation instead of the original Note 7 purchase date. That's not the Samsung yearly upgrade promotion. Unless you're on a grandfathered plan, Verizon always allows upgrades after 30 days if half the phone is paid off, it's the trade in value that changes depending on whether you're on the standard upgrade path or the Samsung Yearly.
