Hey all
Just picked up my New unlocked G3 today.. and man, I love it. Amazing screen.. awesome camera, even the 1 Amp speaker is nice and ringtone loud and sounds great for a phone but when I was buying it, the sales assistant was suggesting a Xperia Z3, iPhone 6 or even a Z2.... anything except a G3.
On aski9ng him why.. he said theyre just cheap and plasticky (clearly he hasnt used a Samsung) and they break down alot. I know LG have had some issues in the past, like all mobile developers... but is it really necessary to bash the G3. The reason Im writing this is because this isnt the first time Ive heard this about the G3, so.. can someone share what seems to be the problem with them and why some people like bashing it.
Cheers
Ps... So far... I think my G3 was worth every penny and its built really well
As a user coming from a g2 who managed to destroy the g2's display i would say the only thing i expected more from was fluidity. The g2 felt much snappier. Thst is my only complaint so far. It could do better in that department. however with lollipop coming soon for the g3 i expect all of thst to be fixed and for my g3 to be much faster. Apart from that it is a great phone and i do not regret buying it one bit.

So more than likely the sales assistant was trying to get a bonus by trying to get you to buy those phones. They get a sales bonus if they sell you certain phones and I don't think the G3 is a part of that right now.
I bash my G3 because LG allowed for AT&T to take features out of the phone to meet their needs. They took out Qi wireless charging and replaced it with the much more expensive PMA because they have a contract with Duracell. They took out the FM radio cause they could and they put stupid bloatware on it.
The G3 itself is a great phone and while it loses some features from the G2, example being the light up back buttons, they do a lot of things right for a flagship phone. But the G3 has issues because LG will not unlock their bootloader so developers have to find back entry ways to get new roms on it, unlike Samusng or HTC. The phone also has a throttling issue that does not allow for G3 users to get the best performance out of their phone.
Personally, I love my G3, but I can see why people sold theirs. If I could I would get the new Nexus 6 instead just for the better developer support, but I don't have that kind of money so I'll make do with what I have.

I can understand as a user why your frustrated about the bootloader and Rom issues and yeah, I can see why they work on commission.. its just plain annoying when someone tramples all over a phone your really wanting to spend your cash on.
The nexus 6 does look nice, but for me.. I buy a phone for the multimedia experience, so the 4K video, bigger quadHD screen (Im a little Short sighted) and 24/96 audio processor sell it for me. I tried the One M8, but the camera was just too over-exposed and cropping wasnt great (nothing to do with the ulta-Px btw). So I settled on the G3, which, so far, is nice.
I had a G2 and it was great, but the speaker volume was too low, missed a few calls, plus I only had the 16GB model as the 32GB is hard to get in UK.. so space was always an issue as well
Will you get the Nexus 6?
It gets hot, it has lower battery life than its predecessor, the QHD screen is a tiny bit better than FHD, but drains the battery 2x faster, the default processor thermal control script is too restrictive, and slows it down for anything (thus induces lag), specially when the screen heats up. Oh, and the screen heats up when at full brightness. And it's more locked than a nun
but that's all what's bad about it. Then it got removeable batteries, splendid button placement, great color fidelity, stunning camera that shoots pew pew, wireless charging, SD card support, loud and clear speaker, thin bezels, great front camera angle, fast processor, great price, big battery, tap to wake, excellent stock ROM, wireless charger included, quick update yadda yadda yadda.
I guess the sales assistant needed to sell some Sony and Apple to meet his month sales. Maybe G3 gets sold easily, thus he need to focus on those devices first (which, also, I guess they have a higher price tag) then sell the G3 later.
LG G3 costs the same as a Galaxy S4 here in Brazil. A G2 costs not much more than a ... Moto G.
They're not quite as popular as Moto G or S4 but hey.. people aren't bright.
Personally I love the g3. Had it only for one week and I think k it's great. Very fast, screen is amazing and I find hardly any lag.
If you can believe it I came for a note 4 to g3. I found the note 4 lagged in certain areas, Touchwiz while improved from my Note 3, is still annoying, and many of Samsung features are gimmicky to me.
Only thing I dislike about the G3 is the horrible battery life but that's easily changed.

It's the second time today that I read that the brightness in the G3 at 100% is the same as in the S3, and it's really worrying, since I have the S3 and I want my next device to have MUCH more brightness.
The S3 is known to have one of the worst brightness at 100% ever!
If the G3 is the same then it means nothing has improved in 2 years!! I've read in this thread at least 4 people say the screen is dim and not bright enough! 4 in one day!

Still waiting for mine to be delivered. But I played around with it a couple of days ago (quote) and was a bit disappointed. I compared it to my S3 and found it real dim while other people say it's way clearer/brighter.
The G3 I tested wasn't anything near bright/clear. Colors was pale and I fund it to be dim overall. Definitely made me believe that it shouldn't perform well in sunlight. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Other than that the screen seemed kinda dull next to the Z2, but it wasn't as bad as the nexus 5 screen, maybe changing the theme would fix this. The sharpness was incredible though but honestly I would pick the z2 or htc M8 display over this any day.

Those are what I found here just concerning so called G3 display being dim. After reading such FUD and BS too many people just won't even go to the store to bother themselves judge phone by their own eyes. Why bother if G3 is simply dim, way dimmer than competitors, based on SOOOO many honest opinions out there?
Those kind of FUD and misleading comments make impression to some credulous people that G3 is not only can't be a competitor to HTC, Sony & Samsung but it even is not worth being named a flagship in the first place. And then those ppl rush to FB and advise their online and real friends what to choose
I also tested the 32 European version comparing it to my s3. In my case the g3 was visibly brighter.

I bought a G3 last month and it was a good decision. The only flaw i found was a bit of lag going from homescreen to the menu but thats all. The brightness is no problem for me and max brightness i use is at 65%... Best of all is that its Futureproof.
I don't get it either, the only complaint i have is a poor sound card/processing which makes music sound flat, but after rooting i installed viper4android and thats all i need. I used to be a heavy modder/flashaholic but i dont think that is needed any longer with current android phones. My g3 has always been snappy and has a great signal.

I have a G3 and love it. I honestly would not trade it for any other flagship phone.
Literally the only negative thing I can say about the G3 is that I wish the speaker was on the front of the phone. But I realize that would make the chin bigger which would lead to a larger phone too and I really like the size of the G3. So I understand LGs decision, but it is the only bad thing I can say about the phone!
I love mine also. It's a great form factor and the only complaints are it's not running vanilla something. But I knew that when I bought it. And so far not to much of lg's ui is all that bad. Compared to htc and Samsung I like this stock ui way more. Tweakbox is a life saver. Now I can relax and be patient for Dev to play out.
I admit I was drooling a bit over a nexus 6, not a fan of amoled but wanted to see it with my eyes then decide. Now that we have aosp based ROMs for the lg3 I'm more than happy to stick with my g3. Running liquid smooth and my battery literally doubled when it comes to sot.
So much hate cause we have a lot of whiney people that comment around here.... Complainers .... Annoying .... Must I go on.... The device is amazing and people need to realize that and if they don't like it then quit posting hate comments on our one and only XDA and move on . please and thank you cheerz:beer::thumbup:

I have had all sorts of devices and was going to get note 4... However 10n Rom is so fast and no lag what so ever. The screen compared to Note 4 is just as good in my opinion. The Cyanmod Rom on this phone flys and antu Mark of 42800. Its a phone that costs less then most flagships and looks great with no bezels. Its the one I'm going to keep this year.
Coming from the Sprint LG Optimus G I have some experience with LG phones and I have noticed one big similarity between it and the G3
LG Phones are finicky.
With both the lgog and the g3 what worked well on one might not work well on another, even if they are the same model variant on the same carrier running the same kernel, rom, etc. Some people report horrible battery drain, overheating, lag, etc. While others have no such experience. A lot of this(I think) is how people use and mod their phone(or lack thereof).
They are also not for people who want something perfect out of the box. With both I had to do LOTS of tweaks between hidden menu, settings, build.prop, etc.
But with all that being said I love this phone. I've only ever had the phone get hot if it was charging while playing something like Grand Theft Auto for more than 30 minutes - even then not a single random reboot since I bought it in September. Had some initial lag but switching launcher, keyboard, deleting bloat, resetting thermal settings and a bunch of other stuff, this thing is like butter. And as for battery life, my record between charges was 64 hours and change with 8 hours screen on time. Again, that took a lot of work and I'm mindful of what is running when it isn't needed, plus numerous build.prop tweaks. The screen is amazing, the sound is great with some tweaks to the media_profile.xml file, the camera takes stunning photographs - I could definitely go on.
I think apple is the auschwitz of computing but I give them credit where it's due. Their products are streamlined and fluid right out of the box but you give up a ton of control in the process. For people who like to tinker and have full control over their devices, nothing beats android(or linux for that matter). And LG makes quality hardware but their software still needs some work. Luckily we can do it ourselves thanks to this community.
Very happy with mine coming up 2 months, still blows people away myself included when they see the screen

But something is telling me to wait and see what comes out by the end of this month, does anyone feel the same way? Or is anyone waiting to possibly return theirs?
I really hate the lack of support that this phone has. I think it would definitely be more popular if it was the first phone to get ICS as well, besides the Nexus of course.
The Skyrocket.......I just can't do it. LG actually updating the Nitro around the same time as the Skyrocket........I don't think it's going to happen.
I played with both phones, and the stock Nitro was a damn lag fest.
Seriously, what could be coming? A 3D screen (if so, I'm not particularly interested in them). I would imagine the 1280x720 IPS screen of the Nitro is going to be as far as the technology goes for awhile to come.
I do agree that lack of Dev/hacker interest is a bit light for the Nitro at the moment...But the phone only hit the streets Dec 5th and we've already got root, so that ain't nuttin.
You played with the Nitro and Skyrocket, where? If it was at a store, then unfortunately you saw the bloated down version of the Nitro. I assure you when you debloat the Nitro it makes quite a difference, with root and couple of tweaks it's even better still.
I've played with Skyrocket for 3 weeks and can tell you, it's garbage...for starters the screen is awful, it has very visible at some backgrounds vertical "static" lines all over (image can move, but the lines stay, which makes them extremely visible) and colors are all messed up. All that is probably because of the resolution, which is a joke at modern standards. The battery life was as bad as Nitro (yet, I've been using Nitro for just 30 hours).
Right now on Nitro with rooted stock rom I can do more then I could've done with a custom rom on Skyrocket...Now if I could figure out how to disable that damn lock screen...

I agree, I went through 3 SII's before I gave up. I'm only hesitant about grabbing the Nitro because I want the Note, but maybe I should just go for it. It seems to be performing just as good as the Nexus, if not better in some stuff.
What's the reason for all the LG hate? Is it just the device support, or the build quality?
The build quality is excellent, we are just lacking dev support currently.
Root the phone and install Ram Manager from the Market and you wont even know its the same phone.

+1 on the build quality. Where some of the blogs get off on it feeling cheap I just don't get.
Its all Nexus hype which doesn't really make sense to me. The nexus series is supposed to be a development platform, not a top of the line phone...
Anyways, ram manager has made a significant difference with my phone, I absolutely recommend it.
Screen / Hardware is brilliant ,We can root it, download mode has been discovered, all we need is some custom recovery / ROM !
Just traded in my skyrocket for the nitro. Build quality is not the issue. The issues I've noticed thus far is the lack of optimizations LG has made to Android for this hardware and usability out of the box. There is zero hardware acceleration on the ui and its obvious. The overall sluggishness out of the box is making me second guess my exchange. I'm going to give it a run, but I might be returning this and waiting for the note. PS the screen is pretty sweet though

Yep, you pretty much nailed it. The phone is lacking in overall polish that Samsung adds to their phones. Scrolling is just smoother and there's generally less "jitter" on Samsung phones. Seems finger-tracking is better as well. HTC/LG/Moto/Sony phones all seem to not bother with optimizing their phones - they just insist on bloating it up and using the fastest processor they can.
I think only ICS can really help this phone out because of the hardware acceleration, no ROM will really do much but get rid of some bloat.
If you can get your hands on a GSM Galaxy Nexus I'd recommend that if you want something similar to the Nitro - Ice Cream Sandwich is just in a different league.

The back cover feels cheap, the glass also feels like plastic (probably because of unusual rolled edges?).
Speaking of glass, it's dirt magnet, in day time without direct sunlight the oil from hands at certain angle makes it very hard see what's on the screen. Skyrocket doesn't have this problem.
Yeah yeah, I should wash my hands more often, I know, I know.

I don't see true HD (1080p) coming to smartphones (or at least not anything under 5"). As it is now, with the 720p on 4.5" screen, that's something like 329ppi. Supposedly that's about the limit that the naked eye can focus to.
Higher than that and not only is it moot, but adds complexity and potential roadblocks. There's already a couple of games I can't run on my Nitro, even using the helper app in the Display settings, because they can't be drawn correctly on the high rez screen.
3D, on the other hand, I agree is likely on its' way. I have a coworker that bought an Android phone recently (can't recall the model) that has the dual-cameras that shoots pics in 3D. So I can't imagine a 3D screen itself isn't too far behind.
l0lz @ the readable native font size on a 1280p <5" screen
you will need a magnifier but it will be crystal clear!

I didn't mean screen wise. (Imo, the screen is more than enough)
1. Not LG (Due to support/etc)
2. Better speaker, higher internal memory.
3. Something that doesn't have to be tweaked out of the box to work smoothly.
In regards to the dev Support, we recently got a hold of one of the revs that brought cwm to the Atrix and have sent him some boot files/images.
Stick around and have some hope, this phone is beyond amazing.

I took my nitro back today for the skyrocket. It's going to take some time to get used to this screen.
I enjoyed the nitro but had an issue with it that just couldn't figure out.
Without deleting any apps other than att bloat, I let the battery run down to charge back up but after that I turned it on and it booted to the lock screen. Went to unlock it and nothing, black screen. Hard reset and same thing.
I'm going to miss that screen but if I can adjust to this 2010 display I think I'll love the skyrocket.
Best of luck to you all on getting dev support for what has the potential to be a great device. And as far as feeling cheap, I actually liked the feel of the battery cover on the nitro.

Just out of curiosity, did you install a 3rd party launcher or anything that might have done that? I know, for example, that if you disable/uninstall the LG launcher you could run into that if there was no 3rd party launcher installed.

Hey Everyone,
Curious to know if anyone has buyers remorse over making the switch to this device from another device?
Does anyone ever run the phone within the confines of the original OS?
What is your real world expectation 6 months from now with this device?
How long do you plan on keeping the device?
What is the most important everyday feature that is a keeper & deal breaker?
How has the form factor impacted the way you look at phones in terms of the screen size vs the size of the device?
Also as a side note. Have anyone ever worked with a fully calibrated monitor like a Eizo or a Ben-Q?
Or for industry folks, any panasonic or Sony broadcast monitors? The correlation being those monitors have the same look at least to my eyes.
Finally have you ever acquired a device that you did not initially have buyers remorse?
I have the phone myself. I am just curious to what the community at large is vibing at the moment...
I'm happy with the G3 especially the screen and camera. I jumped to the G3 from the LG Flex. Nice that the T-Mobile G3 comes with a unlocked bootloader and I'm sure development will be good with time. I'm a phone junkie and usually just keeps phones around 6 months. Jump helps with that.
Sometimes I DO regret getting this phone. It's a good phone, but it's just not the earth shattering, mega phone I was hoping for. Even rooted with no bloatware, i still experience lag, freezes, and subpar battery life. Also, maybe it's just my device, but I'm really not impressed with the screen at all. The blacks seem way too "milky", and i really can't see the difference between this and a 1080 screen, except for when I look at certain photos or videos.
The camera is nice for a 13mp shooter. That's really the main positive.
I returned it after 2 weeks. To many performance trade offs for the QHD screen. Once the more powerful phones hit later this year (Shamue and Note 4) the G3 will struggle. Although that's why the Prime is being released.
Curious what other 5.5" screen are you comparing it to?
Me too returned it after 2 weeks, and the reason was just the screen, everything else is great.
First, couldn't stand this yellowish tinted screen and the poor blacks, and second because of the lag/stuttering
Was it lagging in dual window mode or playing a game?
Or was it on a productivity App?
Or was it simple browsing?
Or transitioning from on app to the next?
As I never used dual window, I can't say if it lags there...
Most annoying was the stuttering to me, and this happened nearly everywhere, transitions, scrolling...
But Lg will fix it sooner or later I guess.
As I wrote, the main reason for returning it was the display...

Some people have the G3 lag some don't. I don't notice any lag. From what I read on here the lag is simple fix by changing the launcher and or a setting or two. Removing bloat helps too.
My screen is bight and battery is good enough for me. I guess I was lucky and got a good G3.
As far as the G3 being a "wow" phone it's not but I think those days are over for phones. I was going to wait for the Note 4 but after seeing the leaked pictures I think I'm glad I didn't.
Got the D855 32GB..
All I can say is, I'm so glad i didn't put much attention on others negative opinion about the device...
We all knew it come's with QHD display before buying it, I don't get why too many about it...
As of me, I'm very happy with it... Coming from nexus 7 2013, my criteria for next device was, at least 3gb ram, 32gb internal storage with external (a 64gb internal w/o ext is also okay)... Just saying by the way. =)
There are always those people who have remorse after buying a device by the way..
I've come from an iPhone 4S!:silly:
I bought the International version with 32GB and the 3GB ram (F400S) and I've not found it laggy at all, even with the all the Korean bloatware apps on there.
The main reason I purchased it was because I was so impressed with the LG G2 that I bought for my wife a few months back, just loved the design and screen.
Hopefully when the "Ints" get their bootloader unlocked and we can nandroid backup and get some cool roms (come on PardusHD!) then it should run even smoother.
The battery life isn't as good as I expected, but then I'm usually charging using a USB port (500mAH) so it will take ages and I've hardly ever had it at 100% but it's way better than the iPhone 4s battery life.
I'm a little disappointed in the screen, I don't find it as "bright" as the Samsung S ones, I've just taken off the auto brightness as I found it too low, in any light environment and currently set it at 85%.
Overall design is nice and it's very light. I'm not a fan of big screens, but then that's the way they're all heading nowadays....

Sole reason of fast battery discharge
I don't have this phone yet but I know the 32g has 3 gigs of ram and the 16 has 2 gigs. Might be why some suffer lag. Make sure when comparing you specify which version folks

Hi Fir3blade,
Can you link a video of the stuttering if you know one?
Sorry didn't make myself a video, saw the stuttering in some video reviews, but I don't remember them, as I watched quite lots, sorry ☺

Here's an example of the stutter in games. At 8min 20.
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=paMb_cgVkug
I don't have buyer's remorse exactly, but I'm not thrilled with the device in every way. I like the camera a lot better than the one on my HTC One M7, and the G3 battery life is better than my M7. That's really it. My M7 felt snappier in every way, and the screen looked better. Once the Nexus 6 comes out I will likely sell the G3 and pick one up. I just can't stand all this locked bootloader nonsense and the lack of development that occurs as a consequence.

Hello Prowd G3 Owners,
How are you all?
I was wondering to buy this beautiful phone, but I thought to ask you owners two things which are bothering me very much.
1. Battery Issues. Presently I use S2 and will be switching to G3, If I am getting better battery backup. i dont know, I have read mixed views about battery from websites, so I wanted your personalized views on battery. My usage = When I dont use, I rarely picks up the phone, just to check text messages. But When I use it, I make sure the usage is heavy(Games mostly, or hours of chatting, minimal browsing though).
So kindly assist in this matter.
2. Will there be any need of ROM changing? Presently I am using CM11 on my s2 as I was fed up with touchwiz(yuck),
Even if your answer is yes, then I still not see any development in this sector as compared to other competitors?
3. If you had the opportunity to choose any other phone, what would that be (with similar g3 specs, you can choose g3 also )?
4. Does Quickcircle case provides impact protection?
5. Does LG causes any hassles if you want to replace your damaged screen under one-time screen replacement scheme?
I thank you in advance,
Neeraj.

Standby time on the LG G3 is immensely good. As you can see from my signature one of my previous phones was the LG G2 and that was the king of battery life for me, both stand by and regular usage. I've been using the G3 for some time now and the battery life matches the G2 which in itself is impressive considering the higher resolution screen. At first i was a bit disappointed but it took a few days/cycles for it to settle.
For instance, on days i get to work at 10am, usually have 2 email accounts pooling every hour, Google services all auto-syncing (Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Keep, Photos backup, etc), Whatsapp, BBM, Weather every 3 hours, etc, i'm usually still at 90% by 2 pm when i go for break. Kill it quite a bit on break with news reading, games, web etc, and still in the 70's when i knock of at 6pm. Kill it some more on the train ride home and in the low 60's by 7.30pm.
2. Will there be any need of ROM changing? Presently I am using CM11 on my s2 as I was fed up with touchwiz(yuck),
Even if your answer is yes, then I still not see any development in this sector as compared to other competitors?
I've always been of the opinion that the best ROM is always stock rooted, and that's what i run on mine. The stock LG G3 ROM is just fine and runs really good. I freeze whatever bloat i don't care for with Titanium Backup. As luck would have it, bootloader unlock (and hence custom recovery needed to flash custom ROMS, if that's your thing) just became available for the LG G3 device-wide. So have at it when the ROMS start flooding in.
3. If you had the opportunity to choose any other phone, what would that be (with similar g3 specs, you can choose g3 also )?
By far, the Sony Z3 or Z3 Compact. Solid battery life, water proof, great camera, etc. Always wanted Sony Xperia devices but sadly they have a phobia for Sprint as a carrier. Nexus 6 only if it was 5.2 inches or less, Moto X 2014 only if it had a better battery (only 100mAh more than 2013 model, yet bigger 5"+ 1080p screen ) and camera. I have the Moto X 2013 currently as well, impressive, but terrible camera and battery could be better.
4. Does Quickcircle case provides impact protection?
Have the case, but don't use it (got it free, definitely wouldn't have paid for it anyway). Like any other case covering your phone it's something that would save it from scratches and nicks and dings if your phone fell out your hands and was otherwise naked. I personally don't like it and use another case.
5. Does LG causes any hassles if you want to replace your damaged screen under one-time screen replacement scheme?
Not sure/don't know about this specifically.
I thank you in advance,
Neeraj.

If you can find a good price on it, go for it.
1. I have a similar use case as yours, and I've never had any issues with battery so far. I get through a day pretty easily with screen on times of 5-6 hours which is good enough.
2. Stock ROM with minor root based improvements is quite decent with not much lag. I've used Touchwiz before and I find LG stock UI much better than Touchwiz. Ofcourse, fully functional CM & AOSP would be far better and I plan to switch to it immediately when available. The bootloader has only just been bypassed so ROM dev will kick up soon.
3. HTC One m8 or Nexus 6 (depending on how big it actually feels on hand). But I had that choice with M8 while going for the G3 so that's my take on it.
4. Yes and No. Depends on where the impact occurs. The cutout on front leaves that area of screen damage prone but the back is pretty well covered. A little less than a proper case though since the Quick Circle case essentially replaces the back cover.
5. Not sure about that. Thankfully I've not had to deal with them regarding this & hopefully I won't have to.
Thank you.

Here prices at online retailers is around 34k after all discounts. That's best in terms of spec/cost ratio.
Also LG India giving free 6 month insurance i guess, circle case and discount on lg g watch worth 10000 INR.
Also can you please post your gaming experience in words, or any performance grudge you hold against g3.
I know no phone is perfect, but I'd like to weigh my options here.

Please tell me more about your experience of gaming on g3? Is it better, worse, or average. I do plan to use this phone for atleast 4 years, if I buy it. Hence, I hope it does not get outdated. What are your views on this? (Know H/W wise it might be, but still my s2 works like a charm on CM11 and is able to play asphalt 8 flawlessly, though on low settings. )

N6 is quite costly as compared to other nexus devices. Although, it is for the specs its offering, I personally dont feel that s801 soc will be outdated soon enough. One M8 is big, specially those front speakers, added to its physical area. I personally dont like on-screen buttons, so was less oriented towards m8.

1. Absolutely no problems with gaming performance wise on the G3. The only issue is that is gets heated up if you're playing a games with the brightness cranked up. Personally, I play games at ~50% brightness which is good enough and doesn't heat up as much.
3. Same here. 801 definitely won't get outdated anytime soon, but since you're picking up a new device at full price and planning to keep it for 4 years I'd suggest you wait a bit to get a feel for the N6 atleast before making a decision. As for the M8, yeah I know where you're coming from. I had to decide between the M8 & the G3 too and I went for the G3 mainly because of the much better design at a larger screen size. Although durability wise the M8 will definitely handle some rough usage better than the G3.

Yea, I was thinking the same but N6 is approximated to cost ~42K INR. While G3 is ~8k less.
My first bike costed 49k. So I dont want to go beyond 35k for a phone as of now. I hope you understand my conundrum.

Hi,
I Have htc HD2 and i need to get a new phone with 5.5 inch, I am comparing between LG G3 5.5 inch, LG Pro 2 5.9 nch, htc E8 5.0 inch and htc Deire 816 5.5 inch ( low in specifications but the only htc with 5.5").
I like LG G3 for the specs specially battery removable, but i am afraid from over heating, lag and battery life. Is there a new product version for LG G3 resolving overheating ?
Please help as i need to get a new phone.
Thanks.

Not sure what you mean in regards to overheating. I have never experienced overheating on my D851. Rarely gets warm with day to day use. In regards to battery life, I easily get a 1 1/2 days to 2 days of use. This is with typical usage of emails, web and text messaging. However I have removed a bit of bloat off of my phone, so it may be helping. I am still running stock but will be moving over to Cloudy ROM soon. Overall I am very pleased with this phone. Upgraded from a SG4.
Good luck.

Got mine in August and it's been rock solid. Mine is the Tmobile version. Possible other variants are the ones having issues.
Of the options you mentioned on the title, the G3 is the best option.
Btw, if you consider 5.9 inch phones to be okay and comfortable to use (you mentioned the G Pro 2 as an option), you should probably go for the Nexus 6.

I think the first product for G3 having this issues, may be they resolved the heating and performance for the new products.
In my Country the esn date is 20140905, hope they are not effected.
What about the brightness and contrast of the display? is it stunning?

No issues here. Originally had concerns regarding brightness as well as multiple reports of screen being dim. However It is plenty bright for me. I keep it at 68% brightness. I guess it might not be as bright as a Samsung device, but it really only matters if you happen to keep your phone at full brightness. If you don't, then it shouldn't really matter. It's possible I kept my SG4 at 58% brightness and now LG is at 68%. End result is the same so no worries.

I am interested for the 5.5 inch, I like htc sense specially the blink feed but htc E8 is 5.0" only and the 5.5" display for Desire 816 is HD also i don't like the built in battery as i do not know what i will do when the battery dead as i hope the phone to last for 4 years, that's why i am looking for LG G3 for it's removable battery and 5.5" but i missed the htc sense and blink feed.

Overheating? Only when you use phone on full/high brightness for prolonged periods of time. And I wouldn't call it "over"heating in my usecase.
Random Reboots? I've faced none so far.
Bad Performance? Not at all. I've had a smooth exp especially since moving to Cloudy/AndroidNow ROMs. Even the stock one wasn't "bad" at all.
Display not as bright? I use mine at 45%-55% most of the time, and it is as bright as I need it. Personal preference is the thing here I guess.
Contrast and Color reproduction may not be as good if you compare it with other phones(Hint: Samsung) side-by-side, but it definitely is good on it own. I like the screen quite a lot and pretty happy with it.
As for the other factors you mentioned before, for a phone lasting 4 years.. yes you probably should go with one having a removable battery then. In that case G3 is the better option here. HTC Sense UIyou'll have to miss out on, but I'm pretty sure Blinkfeed will be ported over(as has already started in the Dev thread).

I've seen a lot of people complaining about this too, and while I can see some extra sharpening around text in some apps, I do not notice it everywhere and I'm definitely not bothered by it as much as the people who are complaining. So that's that.
Hi,
I am interested in buying the G3 for £200 (G4 too expensive) are there any major drawbacks or reasons why I shouldn't get it? I previously owned an LG Spirit 4G and LG G Pad 7 (still have it :victory both of which I liked but the Spirit 4G was a bit slow hence want to go for something better.
On a side note does the G3 have Glance View, double tap to wake...? And how are LG with updates for flagships, will Android 6.0 be the last, is firmware stable?
Thanks

The G3 doesn't have glance view, but it does have double tap to wake, LG are good when it comes to releasing updates at least to it's flagships. I am on Marshmallow and it is a huge improvement in battery life, my phone was unplugged and sat in my pocket most of the time for 1hr and a half with the brief reading of some new articles and I have 0% battery loss. The UX is smoother. As for future updates who knows, the hardware is capable it just depends on LG's marketing of their future phones. At that price I would say go for it, if it were me the only keep back would be at this stage I would want a phone with a fingerprint reader.

That sounds good. What I really love about LG is the features in the software (little things like the clip tray-does the G3 have that?). It would be nice to see what other people say as well-I want as much info as possible.

Battery Life?
How would you guys rate the battery life? I'm guessing it'd be the weakest point of the phone with the 2K display. Can you get a day out of it with moderate use?
I use for texting and light browsing atarting at. About 7 am til 5 pm then basicly wear it out on wifi games music web randoms sheet from there on out til about midnight and usally got about 20% left but im rooted fulmics stock based rom running xceed kernal also undervolted 10ma screen britness about 50% under auto britness getting 6 to 6.5 hours of total screen on time
Battery Life is not the strongest Part oft the G3.
With average usage and deactivated NFC/Bluetooth/GPS and Display on 100% Brightness (i like it very lighty, but i have readen in this forum the most users use the phone with less Brightness) i have to charge the phone every day at night, so i would say after a 12-13 hrs average usage its low. If the Brightness is lower maybe 15hrs. I wouldn't expact more, but nowadays you have more possibilities to charge (in the car, at the office, on the notebook) so its not very a big point for me personally.

My last 2 phones have been the g2 and g3 and i will say both have had there flaws some bugs along the way but both being rooted and modded just right. Best 2 phones ive ever owned stock they eat battery they over heat they lag but most custom roms have solved most of if not all bugs i prfer stock roms on the g3 over non. Due to camera quality. And a few otber things but over all you wont be to disapointed

For previous stock-roms your issus are true. But the new MM-rom is the fastest, smothest, stablest and the one with the best battery live I ever had on this phone. :good:

How would you guys rate the battery life? I'm guessing it'd be the weakest point of the phone with the 2K display. Can you get a day out of it with moderate use?

Battery life is moderate on Lollipop, but I have Marshmallow for 3 days now and it has improved immensely, my phone was idle for 1hr & half and I experienced 0% battery loss
I love my G3 on Marshmallow. It is simply flying. LG has done a fantastic job. But honestly at this time (that is 2 years after release of the flagship) I will recommend you not to buy it. Don't misunderstand. Though it's an absolutely brilliant device, keeping future proofing in mind, I will suggest to wait for G4 prices to drop further or consider other options. Of course our xda community will keep on supporting this device for a long time. But AOSP lacks certain LG features like knock code, Stock Camera performance (certain apps come close) and battery life takes a hit. So considering all these factors, I will advise against buying a G3

That sounds good. What I really love about LG is the features in the software (little things like the clip tray-does the G3 have that?). It would be nice to see what other people say as well-I want as much info as possible.

Yes the G3 has the clipboard which I love, also little things like the caller app that pops up at the top without kicking you out of the app you were using, or how you can respond to text messages without leaving the screen you were in. The adjustable keyboard is awesome, and once rooted you can fix little issues like allowing all apps to function in dual screen mode
I cant wait for mm to be released for d850 att. I like. Cm back on my og evo4g but i dont seem to care for it im hoping fulmics will update to it soon but i stayed on kk til about 6 months ago

Hmmm I see what you mean. I actually never realised it is two years old, probably because it just turned 2016. I have been looking at the G4 but it is at least £270 (cheapest I have found), which isn't too bad but it is a bit high for me. But I am definitely keeping an eye on it. :cyclops:

Yes! My LG Spirit 4G also had those features! This is why I am going for LG.
I bought D851 from ebay, and I find its very lagy (more evident when you play games - temple run e.g) and also i noticed web page loading is very slow (even on wifi) - I am comparing these parameters to Amazon firephone (which i find is way faster). Do you think it has something to do with this particular phone or it is general problem with this phone. I am thinking to return this phone.
thanks.
PS. did want to create another thread.

I never ended up buying the G3 (don't know what I was thinking), I have the OnePlus X which will receive android upgrades and has flagship specs. But from my experience with LG (mid range phone/tab) I would like to say that their UI is generally quite laggy and choppy hence it could be software?
I don't mean to criticise the G3 as it is a very good phone, but with the G5 around the corner (next month) it is not worth buying anymore.
@ ethereal123 I would return it if I were in your position.
