I'll never use it as a music player, that's just way too impractical (battery life), however I was thinking it'd be great if it could be synced with a car stereo with bluetooth so that while using the GPS feature, we could actually hear the voice directions.
Probably a long shot...

As long as your phone is hooked up to the Bluetooth in your car, you will be able to hear the navigation directions.
You don't even have to pull the phone out of your pocket, and the watch will still vibrate and show the turns
No way, really?! So I can get directions by speaking "ok, google" to my 360, and as long as my phone is synced to my car stereo, I'll be able to hear navigation directions? That's really cool!
Thanks

Yeah, remember your phone is doing all the work, your watch is just telling it what to do and showing the notifications, so it will run the program on your phone with the screen off...
You can also tell it to play a particular song on the phone and it will play through the speakers. And when you say "OK Google", it mutes the sound so it can hear you talk...

I have the Samsung Car dock, and I have my phone paired to my stereo (Sony DSX-S300BTX [aka. alphabet soup]) with an external mic which I have mounted up by my visor. I can use vlingo once every time I'm in the car, and after that it goes haywire trying to listen all the time. Is there a way to turn down the sensitivity from the phone, or do I have to do it in the stereo somehow? I have a relatively loud car (Mustang GT) but the exhaust is stock, so I don't think it's that loud. I just want to be able to use the voice recognition reliably.
When you trigger the speech recognition, make sure you leave about half a second of silence before you actually speak. I think it uses that "silence" part to actually build a baseline. That helped quite a bit for me.
Under the Voice talk Settings, Motion, turn off Motion Activation. Most vehicles shake and vibrate too much for that to work right anyway.
Did any of these work? I have the car holder (no bluetooth or audio in/out) and I want to use the phone as my navigation with voice commands. Problem is, unless the car is at a complete standstill, voice talk will hear "Hello Galaxy" but then it won't hear anything after that. The red bars in the microphone icon are going off the charts indicating its picking up too much background noise. I usually use it in a rental car and I've tried all kinds of cars, all of them fairly quiet sedans. I've also tried it in my friend's Mercedes and same problem. Is there a work around? I've never had the motion control turned on. Thanks.
Just found out that when my phone is sync with my car bluetooth, it allows my unit to read incoming sms without look at the phone.

Pretty cool, but I can't get the phone to hear me, LOL. While I can of course converse through my car's bluetooth, I don't think it has a "listen" option if not in a call. Going to keep testing.
the cool part is that it reads the name of the person who sent you the message.

Yeah I was driving and all of a sudden it pop up asking me if i want to hear it lol. Surprise indeed.
You have to hold down the home button then it will start listening then just say text then the name
If its stereo bluetooth, it will read it out and listen via the phones microphone. If its handsfree bluetooth, it will listen via the bluetooth device's microphone.
Also if you are using handfree bluetooth, hold the call button on the device and it will start the voice recognition on a WP7.
Settings are under "speech" in the settings app.
I used this feature in class all the time lmao. I had a Bluetooth earpiece and it would read the messages to me. Of course I couldn't reply else the instructor would hear me.
But I also am planning to implement this feature in my car. My head unit is Bluetooth capable so I believe I need to purchase a receiver for it. Hopefully the MIC comes with the receiver! Would be a very convenient feature indeed!
Question: If you have music playing, does it fade the music into the background so you can hear the text?

yes, the music will pause when the voice prompt comes up.
you can also set this to be always on, on when connected to BT, or on when connected to a headset.
i have an aux in in my head unit, and it works pretty well, the reading goes through my speakers and the phone uses its mic to hear me. it's pretty spotty with listening to me when the windows are down, but otherwise it works great to send a quick reply without manually texting.
Yes the music will be paused, if you notice my video, I have a DVD playing and it pauses it to pop up the message. Once I read it or ignore it, it resume back to DVD.

Ahh, IDK how I missed that link lol.
I use a bluetooth to Radio transmitter. The Motorola one is nice but I had to run "antenna" wires to my visor where it clips to get the best radio reception. I have use the
Motorola:
http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...QJJCzQRZNnA6udm6w&sig2=NvwWutkO_Fez31lWmMUVyw
and the Jabra Cruiser 2
http://www.amazon.com/Jabra-CRUISER...ACKAGING/dp/B006FK8CKY/ref=pd_sxp_grid_pt_2_0
The cruiser 2 DOES NOT have remote control buttons like the original cruiser or the motorola
I like them both for doing all the bluetooth functions but REALLY miss the built in remote control buttons for pausing/starting music or skipping back/forward.
I got the Jabra on eBay for $20 refurbished. They both have their quirks. The jabra on /off is a slide switch on the side whereas the motorola is in the back and you have to hold it for a few seconds. REALLY annoying. If you don't stream music or are out of a call for like 10 minutes it will shut off.
The jabra is easier to get the exact station you want it to be on. The motorola will scan and tell you what to tune.
Yes the texting can be read to you if you are connected to bluetooth. Has been a feature on Windows Phone from day one (back in 2010). You can also say reply, and then you can say your message. It will dectect when you are finished and then you can say retry to redo the message or say send and it will send out the text message. Hands free texting on bluethooth is pretty neat feature.

Yep haha. This is my first window based phone so i find it neat to have this feature. A nice extra surprise haha
This feature alone was worth the price of admission. I don't know why Nokia/Microsoft don't do a commercial with this feature front and center. With all the hub-bub about Siri, etc., this bluetooth, text to speech for SMS is awesome.
I used it in my Xterra with an aftermarket Kenwood deck with Bluetooth and it was stellar. I also used it with my Jawbone and had a great time replying to SMS messages with it connected.
I have had the Galaxy S, many iPhones, and the HD7 on TMobile and none of those phones had this feature.
They really ought to play this up.

I'm pretty sure your HD7 has this feature as well. This is not a Nokia unique feature but rather WP7 feature.
There are many nifty features that WP7 implemented well. Microsoft just doesn't know how to market them. Period. If MS has half the marketing talent of Apple, WP7 should already be No.2 in the smartphone market now.

This is a standard feature in WP7, one of the best if you ask me that I hope they are planning on extending. I use it all the time, if you are able to initiate the phone from you're care you can also sent text messages by saying "text <Name> on mobile" like you would a call. It's also smart enough to translate things like laughing out loud to LOL. But the odd times when you want to say something like "Go F... yourself" it will translate it to Go !#[email protected] yourself
My brother picked up a Lumia 900 after I showed him the feature so he could hear work texts when he's riding his motorcycle. He extended the feature by getting his provider to add a service that sends voice messages to him as text messages so he can hear if someone left him a voice message when he doesn't answer the phone....

So should I be hearing music through my handsfree?
I used my phone for GPS for the first time and I love hearing Nav notifications through my handsfree set. What I couldn't figure out is how to keep using my handsfree set without music playing through it. Nothing would play through the AUX port of my car stereo unless I turned off my handsfree.
I want to be able to hear music through the car stereo and notifications / calls through the headset - is that possible?

I don't think it's possible. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think your phone manages both at the same time. You could have them go through the same one tough. That's what I personally do, both on bluetooth audio system (car).
How did you manage to get it to play on both? For me it seems like it has to be one or the other

Both on bluetooth? I simply have both running at the same time.
My issue was that it seemed like I can only do one or the other. I saw in the settings for my voyager legend that you can make calls through headset but have music still play through car stereo
That works

Not sure I completely understood what you're trying to do, so this may not be what you're wanting.
But if you go to your Bluetooth pairings on the phone and then go to the settings for your Car Stereo Bluetooth pairing, there is an option for either Call Audio or Music Audio. You can de-select the Music Audio so that only Call Audio plays through Bluetooth to the Car Stereo.
All I want is to be able to still hear navigation notifications in my headset while still be able to hear music through car stereo. That doesn't seem possible. I either hear it....
1) All in my headset (phone calls, music and notifications) or car stereo
2) Phone calls in headset (and navigation notifications if I'm on the phone) with music and notifications in car stereo
But I want it to be phone calls plus all notifications in headset regardless if I'm using the phone and music in car stereo

I went ahead and did a little search. Android seems to do it on it's on so I'm not sure why you can't connect to both and hear what you want in both.
I personally don't connect to 2 devices at the same time but I do get/hear everything in my car audio system (navigation, music, calls, notifications) and that can all be at the same time. The music sound will just lower when navigation girl speaks and when a notification comes in.
Now I dunno if you searched for this but I did find a app that might help (can't try it myself as I only connect to one): Smart Bluetooth Widget Free. There's also a paid version.
And like the other guy mentioned, you can select in the bluetooth options what you want to be streamed through it.

Did you read what I said? I gave a link to a app that might help him (which I haven't tested so can't confirm).
One of the more frustrating things for me with my Verizon HTC One has been the inconsistency of the following desired functionality:
1. Phone is connected to the car's bluetooth (2013 vehicle)
2. Phone is on Google Now screen
3. Car is on any audio input (let's say I'm listening to my local ESPN Radio station on AM radio)
4. I say "Okay Google"
5. The car begins "listening" -- when I speak my Google Now voice command, I'm doing it through the car's mic, and any responses are through the car's speakers
So that is what I want, and that is what has happened most of the time since I've had my HTC One. Just last week (and at other times), it stopped doing that. Here is what happens now:
1. Phone is connected to the car's bluetooth (2013 vehicle)
2. Phone is on Google Now screen
3. Car is on any audio input (let's say I'm listening to my local ESPN Radio station on AM radio)
4. I say "Okay Google"
5. The car's mic stays off and the speakers keep playing the AM station. My Google Now command will be listened to by the phone's mic.
Other phone/car interactions -- making calls, listening to Bluetooth Audio (using the Bluetooth/Aux car input) -- all of them to continue to work properly. This is the only thing that breaks.
I don't know what changed; I don't think anything changed, honestly. When it has happened previous times, I've also not figured it out, and then it would start working again. This time, it's been a week so now I'm trying to find a solution.
Thanks for any help that can be given. Hopefully I've detailed this out enough.

synisterwolf, thank you so much -- it was not selected. I enabled it, tried it, and all is well again. I feel like a bonehead for not checking that, but I had forgotten about that setting.
So the one mystery still is how it got changed, but at least I have a good starting point next time this happens.
Thanks again, and have a great week.

app updated, maybe it unchecked itself? glad you got it working. :victory:
Why is there no way to change the audio path? When I'm navigating, I like to hear the voice from my phone. As long as my moto 360 is connected to my phone, the audio is routed to the watch which has no speaker so I hear nothing. This is kinda ridiculous to me that I can't change this like on other Bluetooth devices. I have to disconnect my watch to navigate bc of it.
Am I missing something or can this be fixed in a future update?
EDIT: Fixed! This issue has been fixed by someone. Maybe it was an update to Google maps? I used navigation yesterday and audio came through my phone as all as notifications on my watch. Very cool!

Yeah I do, I just prefer to hear the voice and how many lanes turn and all that additional information the voice gives. I can look at the phone and it will tell me but I just prefer the voice. I also found out it will still work if I connect to my car stereo and the audio will come out of the stereo while it does the directions on the watch, so that's my best work around at the moment
Had the same issue yesterday. It was a major disappointment to say the least. Totally disconnected it from the phone which makes the watch almost useless to me

So, while navigating there's no turn-by-turn voice?
That's not good!

Ya, I use navigation all the time when I'm out of my normal areas of driving. Always comes through my car stereo via bluetooth.
To get the voice to come through on the phone make sure Car Mode is disabled. If it is enabled it will try and send audio through whatever bluetooth connection it has. ...I think
I don't have my watch yet, but try going to the bluetooth settings on the phone and select the watch. If you have a "Media audio" profile with a check mark, try unchecking that. That should reroute that audio to the phone.

Of course. With music streaming, the music would get quiet and the nav would be loud. I've used nav on my phone for ages.
