If you can use this to get ssh set up you can easily copy any files to your PC then copy them onto the USB drive or wherever you need them. If you can't do this there is another way with the adbfire tool but I'm not sure if you can pull from that location with that tool. You can also use pull through adb. Hopefully someone who is more familiar with it can give you the exact command how to pull that particular file.

Regardless of rootness. You can also use [APP] [Windows] Amazon FireTV Utility App v0.30 to back it up to C:\FTV\Kodi . Although not as fast as SSH it is still very dependable & very easy to use...

[Q] xbmc torrents

I installed XBMC on my Amazon Fire TV along with its required, manually entered, addons. I want to install XBMC-torrents which comes only on a .zip file. Thus I need to transfer it through an FTP or otherwise to the AFT root directory so that I can install it. Any idea how to connect with an FTP client? I tried cyberduck but since I do not know the required user name and password, I get an error.
Any ideas pls......
Thx
adb push filename /sdcard/filename

Last time I used cyberduck, I believe the default U/S was "root" and the default P/W was "alpine", without quotation marks. I could be wrong though. Last time I needed to use it was on my jailbroken iPhone 3g. So it's been a while...
I just use 3CX DroidDesktop, to Web FTP stuff to my FTV. As an alternative to FTP, and assuming you have root access, you could use stick mount to mount a usb stick to your ftv, and install zip files that way.

Tha would work for Apple's TV 2. Not sure about Amazon having the same username and password as Apple

You need to sideload an FTP server first. I use SSHelper (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.arachnoid.sshelper&hl=en) so I can SFTP/SCP in and add files. You can also stick the zip on a SMB/NFS mount and add that to your sources and load from there. I think that's the optimal way.

Easiest method for copying XBMC setup on fire tv to fire tv stick?

Hello all,
I have been working on my setup on the fire tv device for some time. I have XBMC customized and configured for my sources/shares and chosen add-ons. I just received my fire tv stick and would like to basically copy the setup to the stick.
For some reason I was never able to get the apps like adbFire to work when I tried Backup XBMC / Restore XBMC (now Kodi) so I was wondering what the easiest way to mirror the setup would be? Is there a config file that i could copy from an install on one device to an install on the other that would setup everything? I am thinking that would probably be "too easy" but it might work for the shares/sources.
Look forward to the responses. Thanks all.

Install ES File Explorer. Turn on Remote Manager (basically, it creates an FTP server on the FireStick). Go to the FireTV, enter that info. Go to this thread that I wrote and look at /9
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2793823
Note, if you are using kodi, the folder should be org.xbmc.kodi.

Hi - I was wondering if the process that was described allowed you to mirror image the stick? thank you in advance for the reply - I was also looking for a way to mirror the stick from one to the other to avoid making a complete setup for the multiple sticks I am looking to purchase for the multiple TV's in my house.
Thanks
It should work for as many devices as you want. I use mysql library and exported it then the sources appear on all my devices running the same version of kodi.
I prefer this for several reasons but you need a computer that's on 24/7 to run mysql server.

[Q] A way to add/remove add-ons remotely

I'm in the process of setting up an AFTV for a non-technical friend with Kodi and all of the latest, greatest add-ons. From time to time, a third-party add-on will stop working or become unreliable. On the other side, new add-ons come out that may be better than those that I've placed on her AFTV.
What I'm looking for is a way to update her AFTV remotely from time to time, removing old add-ons and installing new ones. I want to do this without having to remotely connect to her home network, remote PC, etc.
Is there an add-on I can install on her AFTV that will let me remotely "clean up" her device from time to time?
Hope I'm explaining this correctly.... Any help is appreciated.

I know exactly what you are saying. I have this issue all the time. To get the most out of your friends firetv, you need Root access on the target device. and then install
TeamViewer QuickSupport form google play. you can also do remove live view and do what you want. I do it all the time for my parents overseas. Earlier I had my dad do facetime and vocal instructions which was always a difficult thing. Now All I need is 2 connections. One to the Firetv through Quicksupport and one to his PC and I can install/update/fix anything I want as If I'm there.
If your friend is not rooted, you can still install quicksupport but you wont get live desktop as the first time you ask for remote desktop, kit will ask you to grant root permissions. I've also reached out to team viewer to make this an official app so it does not require root.
Hope this answers your question.

I should have mentioned that this is an AFTV stick, and that rooting is really not much of an option for me. Also, I'd like to push these updates without her being involved in any way -- other than perhaps launching an add-on that would perhaps update her Kodi installation (perhaps the data folder) so that she has the add-ons installed that I want at that point.
I know some folks have developed add-ons that do something similar, but they are proprietary to their devices, so that doesn't help me much.
Essentially what I'd like to do is be able to tell her ... run this add-on, which I install for her initially, and it will update all of your other add-ons (uninstall, install, etc). I'm not sure what path to take here.... and I hope I'm making sense.

Install quicksupport. I believe you can still look into her stick without being rooted and then put the files in the correct folder. Perhaps, you can check on to see how to install an ftp server such as EZ file explorer and map that IP staticly from her router and you open up a port to get in. Lots of ways you can do it if you really wanted to.
You can use an FTP server like: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.theolivetree.ftpserver
And then Autostart it with: Autostart and StaY! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.atasoglou.autostartandstay&hl=en
Note: I haven't tested any of the above. I believe the infamous Llama can also achieve the same as autostart.

Thanks for the suggestions!
I know that some people have written add-ons (proprietary to their device) which will update the other Kodi add-ons that are installed, enabled or disabled each time their add-on is run. The add-on will retrieve a .zip file from their host, copy it down to the device, and extract and run whatever they need to which in turn updates the device with their latest recommended add-ons...
I realize this is a rather complex solution, but maybe not if this type of add-on already exists out there. I'm hoping that it does, and someone is aware of it and can point me in the right direction.

Factory reset rooted AFTV2

I'm not sure what my error was, but I modified my platform.xml file in system/etc/permissions and now my aftv won't connect to my network. I also can't read anything in file manager except root (sdcard0 and sdcard1 appear blank but the fire tv shows they have files that are taking up space under "manage applications")
I've checked the section of platform.xml that was edited several times and everything appears ok to me.) Unless someone sends me a blank platform.xml file so I can check the whole file to make sure mine's matches exactly, I'm not sure what else to do...
So I'm looking to maybe factory reset but I'm not sure if that will even touch system files. If it leaves the system untouched I'll be in deeper trouble because it'll wipe ES File explorer, hence making it impossible to edit the platform.xml. I also can't connect over adb wired or wireless. Really appreciate some advice. Thanks
This is the section of platform.xml I modified (pulled this one from AFTV Gen 1)
<permission name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" >
<group gid="sdcard_rw" />
</permission>
Please take a look at your AFTV GEN 2 platform.xml and tell me how it differs or just paste that section here. I might be able to correct this.
I hate to appear desperate but Ive been racking my brain (and my eyes) trying to spot something wrong with my platform.xml and i cant find it. Ive compared the text to forum posts, my aftv gen 1 and my phone. It appears fine. Yet still no network connectivity and no files are visible on the sdcard. Heres 2 pics of the file. One shows the code the other displays permissions. Please, if you have any ideas, tell me whats going on... Thanks
Was you trying to modify the Sd write permissions yourself? Did you make a platform.xml.bak file? & have you tried using the downloaded modded platform.xml the guy had in his post? Hope you get outta this & get back to normal again? Only thing I can say is maybe when the recovery is released by rbox maybe you can start fresh with a new recovery/patched rom. You may have to play the waiting game till then mate.

Thanks but theres little chance of that given that i cant read my sdcard and earlier attempts at connecting via adb didnt show my device. Thing is this was an impulse buy (on sale at bestbuy). Already have 2 rooted gen 1s. I was strongly considering returning it but pretty sure a factory reset will just wipe data, and not undo changes i made to the system.
I've done this too
I did the same on my Fire TV 2 - changed my platform.xml and it connects to the network but drops every time after a few seconds.
I did back up platform.xml but ran a factory reset and now can't get in to put back the platform.xml file !
I definitely wouldn't factory reset based on my experience
I'm now stuck at:
No network = no ADB over network
Seems to be no other way to get to the settings menu or back to ES Explorer
Have loaded Android SDK USB device driver but can't get ADB to see the Fire TV
Fire TV is not bricked as it boots all the way to the startup procedure but may as well be bricked as it can no longer get a network connection (ethernet or wifi)
I've seen an article relating to recovery by using a USB keyboard but that doesn't appear to relevant.
Anyone got any other ways to get ADB to work other than over the network ??
So if you can hold out until recovery is ready, recovery will allow you to install prerooted 5.0.4 thus restoring all the files in /system to the way they should be. I currently have no estimates, but I'm hoping for sometime before February. Or you can try getting ADB over USB working.

Definetly follow rbox's advice and wait. If you really did the same thing as me then you might be wasting time getting the platform.xml back to etc/permissions. I successfully moved my backup there by connecting remotely with es file explorer (i can see my sdcard remotely) , sending it to my pc, put it on usb drive then mouting the usb drive with an adb command provided by rbox. BUT it did the same thing after accomplishing this-no network, no sdcard. So your best bet is to remain patient and wait.
Btw-adb should be working for you. If its not try rebooting aftv, maybe router too and of course make sure adb is enabled in settings. Good luck.
If you can connect to ADB over USB you should be able to follow the instructions in the original FTV 2 root thread and flash the stock or rooted system image using the dd methods, only takes a few minutes. I had to do that after messing with some system files. http://forum.xda-developers.com/fir...v-gen-2-4k-t3245407/post64216823#post64216823
Make sure you use the correct system image for the version you are on (5.0.3 or 5.0.4)!
Now Fixed
I've now fixed this with Rbox's recovery and pre rooted 5.04 - the recovery setup got me into the Fire TV 2 - once in I could install the pre rooted 5.04 and get back to the original platform.xml file without having networking first.

Can I clone a "jailbroken" firestick to put on a new one?

I am trying to take my "jailbroken" Firestick and copy it's info to a new firestick. So I will have two that have kodi and I can use one downstairs, I thought I could just back it up on perhaps my desktop and than restore on the new stick. Is this going to work or will I just crash the new one. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am good with my comp, but can't write code or anything like that. Thanks!

There's no "jailbreak" for the fire stick.
You don't need to do anything special to install kodi.
Just install es Explorer and follow the instructions posted on several threads here.
The fire stick I have here already has Kodi on it. I want to clone it or back it up so I can restore to the new stick I just ordered.

So save the settings in kodi and import them into the new one then? That's a simple operation inside kodi to save them.
Use one of the many programs on here to connect your computer to your fire stick and pull the saved file off and push it to the new stick.

use adbfire, back it up to your computer., then connect adbfire to the new stick, and restore.
You will have to sideload kodi on it first, and then make sure kodi is quit and not running before the restore

My comp doesn't have a HDMI out put port. Someone told me that I would need this adapter http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00H91BQ7Y?keywords=StarTech%20USB32HDES%20Slim%20USB%203.0%20to%20HDMI%20External%20Video%20Card%20Multi%20Monitor%20Adapter&qid=1453840582&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1 to put my Firestick in to back it up. I realize that I will need an adapter of some sort to have an output port to use on my comp. This one just doesn't seem right, as it for a desktop monitor if I read it right. I can see it has a slot that I can put the Firestick in and use one my USB port. Was wondering if there is any cheaper adapter that would work. I wouldn't be using it for any other reason then to backup/restore the firestick.
Just out of curiosity, I had to buy this to connect the firestick to the tv as it doesn't have an HDMI port either. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00Z7Z2SM6?psc=1&redirect=true& Would I be ablref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00 Would I be able to use the USB cable that came with that and plug it into a USB port that is on my comp. And use that to back up and restore the two firesticks? Sorry for being so brain-dead on this. I understand that there are inuput/ output differences, but honestly don't know what I need. Getting older seem to have made me less willing to try thinks on my own.
Once I get that figured out I will attempt the backup/restore. So in novice terms I am going to plug in the new firestick and find a download Kodi on my comp and install it on the new firestick with abfire (not sure what side load means). Hoping that is an easy click click as I can't write any code. Then plug in the "jailbroken' Firestick that is set up like I want, Start abfire (I understand that Kodi can't be running, how do I turn it off?), back up the JB Firestick. Then put my new firestick in the output port and will hit restore on abfire. Thank you so much for holding my hand on this. I am usually more comfortable with comp stuff, but this has me a bit nervous.

You don't need to plug the stick into anything other than power. adbFire works over a wireless connection.
I've done this before, easiest way is to install clean kodi on the new stick, get es file explorer and copy the files located in the old kodi folder, then copy them to the new kodi.

dont buy anything , Just keep the fire stick in your tv, go to settings on the fire tv, get the ip address, ( make sure your computer and fire stick is on the same network(if you have multiple networks) ) install abdfire on your computer, connect the fire stick or tv with the ipaddress, and click backup, it will back up to your pc. when back up is complete, remove the old fire stick from your tv, insert the new one, connect to wi-fi, turn on the developer options , and then install kodi to it, via abdfire, and then shut kodi down and restore it via abdfire. it will take some time, but the exact copy of the back up should then be on your new fire stick
Interesting but try to find a source for abdfire without going to a malware site I think the whole abdfire thing is malware click bait.

Firstly, Fire Sticks are not jailbroken. they are side loaded. Jailbroken is a term for Apple devices and Playstations. Secondly yes, you can copy your Kodi setup with a tool called ADB Fire I think it's called.
My fire stick has kodi and some other special third party software, I want to clone that stick in case it ever crashes. Is it possible to clone?

Others do clone Fire Sticks for resale. I do not know how they do it but they do somehow. Google is your friend.
Wow! Guy asks for help because he dos not know a lot about the fire tv stick and more than one of you take the time to be douchebags and correct him in calling his stick jail broken. But then you do not even help him! Is this not what the purpose of these forums are?? smh.
Can someone please just answer with "to copy a Firestick to another Firestick, do this...."
Yes you can copy Kodi from Firestick 1 to PC then to Firestick 2 with all the settings and addons.
I used ES Explorer show hidden files and copied the .Kodi folder to eg: C:\temp
Then plugged Firestick 2 and installed Kodi. Navigated to .Kodi location and deleted it.
Copied .Kodi from C:\temp to Firestick 2
