Write to External SD FIXED on LOLLIPOP! - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 4

This just in. It looks like the site to SD function will be coming back with Android 5.0. Straight from the mouth that matters.

Happy, but I'm still irked about this reversal, since one of the reasons, but not primary reason, that I returned my AT&T GN4 was the difficulty in getting write permission to SD Card

That was your choice... I always recommend that people buy a phone for what it can do NOW, not what it might do later...
Who knows when AT&T will even release that version for the phone. If samsung releases it in December, it could still be July before AT&T gets done testing /modifying /approving.

Nice! This makes me so happy. I can live without root I think but it has been annoying realizing that only certain apps work with writing to the SD card.

There's so much to love about the phone as it is, then when root comes it will just be that much better :good:

Unconfirmed Froyo coming to desire 23rd of june!

Got a bit peed off with the apps taking up loads of room and not being able to install them on the sd card, so i gave HTC a call and asked them if theres a round this?
I was told:
Robert: "No im sorry not at the moment"
Me: This is not on! i can only install a few apps!...
Robert: "Can i put you on hold for a couple of sec's"
Me: Yeah noprobs.....
Robert: "I have had a chat with my superviser and she said theres nothing you can do.... But you never heard this from me.... A new update is coming the 23rd of june and you will be able to put some apps on to the micro sd card."
Me: ok ill have to wait then, thanks for ya help.
Robert: "ok is there anythink else i can help you with?"
Me: nope have a good day cheers
Robert: "thank you have a good day"

don't get too excited. froyo's apps2sd is different than one you get with rooting your phone. with froyo it's up to app author to decide if his app may install on sd card or not.
If this is true and they get Froyo on my Desire just one month after the Nexus they will have me forever. I have not rooted yet because I'm afraid and because I have faith in HTC (Hero owners probably disagree with me). I am counting on the fact that the Desire (and brothers/cousins) is their flagship and will probably be for another 5-6 months. I trully beleive no other GSM phone will beat it this year, at least not price/performance wise.
@HTC: this is one test you really have to pass. You have to build confidence, people that buy your products need to know their investment in you is seccond to nothing. The branding/ad campaign is brilliant but now we need some facts. Make us proud!

This is a very good point, I'm sure not many people understand this. However I'm pretty sure once it's possible many developers will upgrade their apps to enable this, especially if users flood them with emails asking for it.

he did say some apps, we will have to wait and see
Some apps probably just implies "non-stock" apps; since they are locked to the internal memory in stock roms anyway.
This might be what we were waiting for =D
This is awesome if true
Not that big delay ha?
I had a USB bricked Desire, but went to the store and convinced them to give me a new one..
now i have been trying to figure out whether to try rooting and get a nexus one port of 2.2,
but with these news i dont think i will risk it just yet..
hope this date holds true, that would be awesome!
Maybe a stupid question... but why would HTC not want everybody to know that they will bring FroYo so fast? This is good news, not bad. If I would be HTC, I would tell this good news to the whole world.
Anyway, I was and still am sure that we will have FroYo before August starts.
They said press release 2nd half of the year, but they also said something about we will publish details when we now them ( meaning might wait til monday maybe) and also said something like not 100% guarenteed as they might hit problems etc...
Delete this post.
*crosses fingers and everything else*
Not sure I would count on this too much. Yes it is a possibility, but it may not be also. I used to work in a call center, and from experience I know some people say there will be an update soon just to get the customer off the line. I have had to deal with the backlash of customers not getting the update the previous person told them was coming out. Hopefully it is accurate information though. Would be nice nice to get 2.2 soon

In the words of John Mackenroe "You cannot be serious!" Although I suppose it all depends upon your definition of "... a few ..."
The Desire's available memory is possibly the largest in an Android handset to date.
But that was a good bit of leakage to post to all of those waiting eagerly for Froyo on the HTC Desire

This isn't true and they even explicitly said this in the IO Presentation.
Apps2SD in Froyo can work automatically, the system will decide weather or not to install the app to the SD Card (Presumably, if your internal storage is full, apps are then installed on the SD Card)
You also have the option to manually transfer from Phone to SD and vice versa which is what they demonstrated, probably because they couldn't demonstrate an automatic process.

ROM updates and Respones

Okay,
I think being blunt is the only way. I think this might stop stupid questions about ROM OTA's
Okay everyone,
Everyone needs to realize that all dev's do it for free because they enjoy it. When people start to demand things, I think dev's get pissed and decide to stop. Honestly, I don't blame them. Stop your b**ching & asking for OTA's. ROM's will be updated when they are updated. I'm ranting, but I'm so sick of this coming up. Don't unlock your phone and flash custom ROM's. Everyone needs to calm down & realize that nobody gets paid for this s**t. I'm not trying to be rude, but really grow up.
I wish I didn't run out of thanks for the day

That's a good idea but it would just result in all the new/junior members spamming the general, Q&A, and themes sections just so they can get access. Another type of restriction of some sort would have to be added to prevent that.

Well, when restoring my chromebook made my usb drive unreadable, I used the following little tool:

It actually saw the drive and let me reformat it. It's a last ditch effort, but probably worth a shot. Hope you don't lose anything valuable.

Dang. Good luck with the new one. I just upgraded to a 32gb card too. It makes me less stressed about how many nandroids I keep on it.

Jump! Upgrade

So in 2 days I can swap my handset and test this new jump! Program. I'm curious if there are any good phones available or if I should wait a month. I had my eye on the note 3 but idk if I should continue to swap for that.I'm looking for something with an SD slot. Saw the new nexus 5 and while it looks sexy, doesn't seem to have a slot
My other question is unrooting my t999L. I saw a guide somewhere once but don't remember, can anybody link it please?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I'd take a look at MOTROLA MOTO X or HTC ONE X+Samsung is launching S5, want to wait ? I won't take Note 3 unless you are into whole Phablet thing.
For Unrooting, Get KIES to flash Emergency firmware.
I just got in the jump! Program myself.. I just got an s4 and hope to switch to the s5 when it releases.. Let us know how it works out for you!
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk
moto x looks ok, but if i'm not mistaken it has no external sd. That's my biggest drawback. I don't trust ROM as a storage device. it tends to fail or can be accidentally wiped.
s4 wasn't even that big of an upgrade from the s3, but the phablet doesn't seem like a bad idea. I kinda like that it's both a phone and a mini tablet. So much screen real estate. But idk how it would work with aosp and the like as far as spen features.
Looking into projected phones for 2014 tmo based, I don't see anything too enticing. Really sad the N5 has no sd slot or I wouldn't even be asking
Phablets like NOTE have some of the coolest roms I have seen. Do a quick search on their forum. Yeah I know lack of SD card can be a trouble, but you do know you can take online Nandroids to a PC right ?
FWIW I did hear good things about some of the LG offerings.

Yeah, but it's just the fact that flash memory fails. I understand that's what an SD is, but ever since i made a mistake of wiping my internal data I put everything on my sd. Not to mention it's significantly bigger. I just dont like being limited like that.
I'll take a look, I still have yet to decide but today is my upgrade date.
So my question now is do I have to unroot before I swap or can I just take it in?
If I have to unroot, can somebody point me please in the direction of t999L stock thread?

Randomly walked into an ATT store this morning and got a Note 4...

I bet by the end of this week. Root will be easy, bootloader will not be broken though. I just want my Titanium Backup and Root Explorer so root is all need.
I called a few att stores in my area and each of them said they have them in stock, but cannot sell them... How'd you pull this off?

You'll never have CM11 on it. Never. But you can use exposed and do other mods. Just no ROMS.

I was surprised when it happened because samsung phones were always so open. Nexus 6 looks good but it's just a big phone with no feature that I know of at least to take advantage if that screen. At least they finally went above 32gb now. But I don't think I'll ever buy an AT&T phone ever again.
I did the same. Walked into an AT&T near me during lunch and got a white Note 4. I wasn't expecting to be able to get one but they are selling them here in Milwaukee.
Much like some of you here, I don't need anything more than root to run titanium and a couple other things. I never understood the idea of getting a note device to throw an AOSP rom on it that negates the S Pen functionality and other Note qualities. Why not just get any other big phone?

Why do you say that? Root and bootloader are two completely different things.
Root should be easy and we should get it. Custom recovery on the other hand, probably not.

Correct me if I'm wrong but these custom ROMS don't support the S Pen. If that is true, what use is the ROMS if you can't use the S Pen. That is one major point of the whole note.

The S Pen was never a real selling point for me. HTCs have bad cameras, LGs have have horrible reliability from mine/my buddies experience with the G2 and the Note is still the spec king. I could definitely get behind a Nexus though.

Which store did you go to? I tried at the Greenfield store on 76th and Layton but they said they will start selling it on the 17th.
I don't mind touchwiz myself and if you haven't played with a note 4 in store you might be pretty happy with touchwiz this time around, its snappy and actually doesn't look nearly as bad as it used to. Can just install nova or google now launcher if it is that bothersome though from a UI perspective. Setting wise I think Samsung offers more a better features than aosp.

I got the Note 4 in Pasadena, they had 5 white and 2 black. They are technically not suppose to sell them until Friday, but all the corp stores got them. It took a bit of effort to get them to admit they had them, and I pulled the corporate partner card on them so they went ahead with it.
Now what sucks is I can't transfer any of my data with titanium backup, I am wondering when root will be available.
I also agree with others here, if you don't need or care for the S-Pen the Nexus 6 is probably the device you want...
So who will be first to release a root?
Hopefully we can get root for now... Maybe we should check out the G3 forum as they got root with the bootloader locked...

To be honest, id probably flash that update. Im in Israel and i have yet to find someone with a Java card here. Stock isnt horribleeeee but i miss Cyanogen/AOSP
Stock isn't bad at all if you disable all the crap. I'm pretty much resigned to the fact we're not getting root.
I have root. Dottat is only an inbox message and a shipping charge+donation away.
Ok, a hundred people or so will have root. Which means there's not a whole lot of development that will be happening, so I'll just live with stock.

I disagree, it takes time to get things going. Most the Developers (that I know of anyway) that are on Verizon have gotten their phones S-OFF, and are working hard to bring us the goodies. It will only get better from here, and those who are patient enough or don't feel like shipping their devices, will have all the goodies waiting for them, as we are working hard getting the ball rolling. It will only keep getting better and better. Even if SunShine NEVER brings support to Verizon, their any many amazing people with Java Cards who are 100% trustworthy and depending how you ship your device it can be back the same week. (I personally sent my phone out with $400 insurance on a Monday, and the phone was back in my hands by Wednesday - It was on it's way back to me with a tracking # before I even had time to see if the phone had made it!) 100% worth it, and thank you again @dottat!
