Click noise when launching camera app (Note 4) - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all, new to the forum. Been lurking for a while though :good:
I just got a Note 4 Dev Edition. And I notice that when I launch the camera app, there is a faint "click" noise. As if the lens is moving. I'm not talking about the shutter sound (when taking a pic). This noise occurs when I launch the camera app (as the camera is starting up).
Has anyone else experienced this with their Note 4?? I found a few threads about this same kind of noise on other phones, but nothing regarding the note 4. I'm kinda OCD with this stuff
Thanks!!!

I dont hear anything.
i know my note 2 would occasionally make that noise. Specially when I'd use a Telsa App.

Old thread but i have same noise. It doesnt happen always but sometimes

It's the focus mechanism, an electromagnet that moves the lens. If you open the camera app while looking at the rear camera, you can see it move along with the click sound. As the phone gets older and experiences more heat, moisture, and dust, this part gets noisier.

Camera makes a click sound when I open any camera app

I have no idea how long this has been going on because I've just recently noticed it, but when I open any app to use the camera, my phone makes a click noise, not from the speakers, but the actual phone itself makes a click noise, I have no idea how to fix this, it's not that bothersome as I'm rarely ever using my camera anywhere where its quiet enough to hear it, but it's obnoxious to hear, does anybody know what could be causing this or is anybody at least having the same problem?
Well, I have same problem as you on my Samsung Galaxy S4. Any ideas?
Calm down, all phones with Autofocus make this sound. Your device is working properly.

my M8 Developers Edition is silent opening the camera app
I think it's more audible on some phones than on others, just by randomness, but I've had several phones of different models that make the click noise and it's never affected performance or camera functionality. It's normal.

M8 camera buzzing/vibrating noise

Hi
the camera of my M8 makes a buzzing/vibrating noise when I start the camera app.(But the camera is working and the pictures are as good as usual) I tried a reset of my phone but it had no effect. My guess is that this is a fail safe mechanism. For me it sounds like the lens stucks a little bit and a firmware mechanism is vibrating the lens until it's free again. Can you confirm this or why do you think my camera makes buzzing sounds?
thx

it is the camera lens problem, hardware issus
Is there a chance to fix it or do I have to replace the complete camera module?
Its the camera auto-focus. Folks have posted on here of hearing a buzzing noise, while others don't. The noise may or may not indicate its failing. But I wouldn't worry about it, until the camera fails to focus, or fails to work completely.

Ticking noise of camera lens or something else near camera/speaker

Hi at all,
i recently bought a new Moto Z2 Play. All work good, except for a noise that i discovered yesterday during a call. If i shake the phone i can clearly hear a ticking noise that seems comes from the camera or, however, in this area. I supposed that are the camera optical lens, but could be something else, like an unscrewed screw for example. The fact that it comes from the camera area makes me think of camera lenses.
Could you tell me if you also notice this noise? I have already replaced the phone once for problems with the usb port, I would not have to replace it again. In any case all work good, the camera is able to focus when i tap and the photo are good, the speaker sound is good, so I can't understand what it could be.
Thank you.
Same noise here. Everything is working properly anyway.
Same noise here, Verizon variant.
it is from camera module.
open camera and focus it to close object, and lock focus. wohha the clicking noise while you shake your z2 is gone. nothing to worry about. that noise is on every moto z2 play.
My phone has the same ticking sound when I shake it, yet everything works fine.
that ticking sound is the actuator working. dont worry, there is nothing wrong with your phone.

Noise from camera

Maybe someone has had a similar problem.
Sometimes when particular app opens camera and the camera sensor is active the sensor will buzz. It is happening only in 1 app.
Second is that when i shake the phone I hear a rumble near the camera. When the camera is turned on, it is less rumble when shaking the phone.
Otherwise I think the camera is working ok. Zoom is ok, when i cover with my hand the sensor there is no buzz.
Someone had a similar situation?
My Mi5s just started to do exactly the same when I start the camera app. Any solution to this noise?
The exact same thing happened to me, until the camera stopped focusing and I had to change it

Camera audio auto-gain/muter and BixbyButton make S9 unsuited for concerts

Use my S7 for concert registrations and upgraded it to a S9 because of the praised camera.
The first recording with it was horrendous.
First, an annoyance, the Bixby button is exactly where my thumb is when holding it in landscape mode. When it gets rough I need to hold on tight, or when I eat a push or punch, my arm hits the Bixby button and that stops the recording. The main act got interrupted 9 times because of this. I have tried many things to block this, but nothing helped so far. I am planning to glue the button with epoxy and if that doesn't help physically rip the button from the casing.
Second, the show stopper. There is an undocumented feature that pulls the audio through an auto-level/muter filter. For a live concert with high volume levels the effect is horrendous. When the bass drum hits, it turns down and muffles the audio for like 2 seconds. The result is of lower volume than the more quieter bits, and it sounds like the phone is located in my underpants. It is so bad that the recording can be considered corrupted. I have recorded more than 60 concerts (some even louder) and have sufficient material to compare.
I do not want to use the S9 any more for this reason and am planning to return it for a refund if this isn't fixed or fixable.
Phone has G960FXXU2CRLI
Couple of questions:
- Can this auto-level/muter be disabled (I haven't found any setting that might hint its existence)?
- My alternative is the S8, but that also has a Bixby button. Does the S8 have the auto-level/muter too?
- If both answers are negative, does that mean I'm stuck with my S7 forever, or is it time to switch brand?
First of all you can turn off the Bixby button completely, a little Google search would've helped. But go into Bixby/settings and scroll down to the general section, there you'll see the option to turn it off. As far as the audio, I haven't had any issues with recording, maybe your mics were obstructed.

Thank you, but you can't. At least with OneUI you cannot. The only choice you get is "Press once to open Bixby" or "Press twice to open Bixby". It explicitly states that a long press will always open Bixby. That punches through any active app. I've tried everything on the internet and a friend helped searching for alternatives. At this minute I'm actually looking for a stock rom to downgrade and see how that works.
And about the obstructed mics, thank you for making me feel stupid, maybe I'm the first who is actually complaining about it. I didn't mean that bad, but you can listen and hear for yourself. first 2 and half minutes is sufficient to know what I mean. And, PLEASE listen and comment about what you hear. Having someone second this would be really more than nice.

My other recording of Architects (main act) is even worse.

My friend also coined up that the camera issue is caused by the microphone auto-gain which is levelling the volume as to "optimise for voice recognition". I'm currently testing with the "Open Camera" app that gives you the choice to disable that. Still looking for a loud musical environment to test it is actually working.
I'll post the results when I found a working combination.
