Officially announced Android L for Galaxy S4 - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

http://www.sammobile.com/2014/11/03...droid-5-0-lollipop-for-the-samsung-galaxy-s4/

I'm just wondering when the Play Edition is gonna get it. That shouldn't be too long from now I'd imagine, but I don't think there's been any official announcement on it

We almost got it for Halloween.

I wouldn't call the SGS4 a dead horse in any way, shape, or form. This thing is almost endlessly customizable with just about every flavor of roms you can imagine. I've been eligible for an upgrade for over a year now, and I haven't done it simply because my S4 fits my needs perfectly. Plus, I'm a little concerned that any other device will be a disappointment from what I'm used to. This thing has tons of life left in it...enough so that it'll still make someone else glad to have it when I finally do decide to upgrade.

I was just joking [emoji1] I completely agree with you. If I didn't like my s4, I would have gotten rid of it long ago. It is just a comforting feeling that we will get a major upgrade and it will be nice to see the threads blow up when it drops. I was not expecting this upgrade at all.

Exclusive Preview - Android 5.0 Lollipop on Samsung Galaxy S4

http://www.androidcentral.com/lollipop-brings-changes-way-your-sd-card-works-kind-youll
Now we will get access to SD card. This is awesome.

Tw version of lollipop looks like crap, if it ends up like the preview video it will be very disappointing.

Hopefully they update the gpe version as well. I hate touchwiz.

Any idea when the 4.2 update might drop_

I am interested in the Note II. I currently have a 4S and with the lack of a jailbreak the i5 is not appealing to me... I tried before with the skyrocket but it was such a bad phone that I really hated it and went back to the 4S. I find this phone extremely capable... 4.2 bring certain updates that might mimic lockinfo for iPhone and that is one huge important piece on why I have stayed on the jailbroken 4S.
Any idea on when this update is scheduled to hit? I only recently saw that the 4.1.2 was leaked but it appears is NOT for the 7105.
This phone has a lack of custom Roms as most of them (all) are for the non LTE version.
Really like the DNA, but not available on AT&T and I want an LTE phone.
Thanks
Thread Moved
Dont post questions in the dev section!
-No way to know when 4.2 is going to come for Note II. In fact, 4.1.2 official hasn't been out yet, only the leaked unofficial version.
-Some may agree and some may disagree with me, but you really don't need custom roms for this phone. The stock experience is excellent out of the box.
-The DNA does have LTE, but on Verizon.

True... you don't need custom rom with the plethora of stuff for it... just root it and be done... hence why I wanted the 4.2 version for the lockscreen info.

There is no ability to disable lock screen widgets, they annoy the heck out of me.
Swype in the keyboard we already have.
Quick settings is a joke. If they were toggles they would be useful.
Nothing makes me want 4.2 over 4.1.2 right now.

From article
"Samsung hasn't confirmed any Android 5.0 Lollipop updates for its devices; however, at least one device from the manufacturer is certain to receive the new software. The Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play edition should be among the first devices to receive Android 5.0."
So, we should be among the first to get the update. It will likely be out in the Google Play Edition ROM's first, and official update probably a lot later. I wouldn't expect it to come too soon, but it will arrive.

People hear of something new, and just want it because it new. No idea what it actually is nor anything about it. (Just fyi its not even released yet.) Kinda like multi window on the s3. Everyone cried for. 1000s and 1000s. Finally got it, and honestly how many people actually use it? I bet I can count the percentage on my hands.

You are totally right on the above - .
I have read that 5.0 (hate Google's names) is supposed to be a major update (with Art, etc) and the reviews covered other new features - but will have to see if, bottom line, it will really reflect a major step forward.

It can be "possible" that the Android L can prevent root. But that is mainly for phones with a locked bootloader, which we dont have........
But, first it was Knox, now Google is trying to make it to where you cant even root your phone. Go to the Portal and read this.

LolliPop for the Note 4 due soon...

Looks like Samsung may release LolliPop to our beloved Note 4 sooner rather than later.... but how long will the carriers take before turning it around for us?

4.4.4 has only been out for 4 months, you think you'd have it already on a carrier specific phone, and samsung at that? and with 4.4.4 being a minor update?
By the time 4.4.4 released, Sammy was already well into working on 5.0 Why do the work for a minor update when you could just go straight for the big release?

I was shocked when Verizon released it, they are usually really slow. ..
And to answer Techsavvy2's question, in Verizon at least, the GS5 4.4.4 update fixed many Bluetooth issues that were present in 4.4.2. But I agree with Tech's point in that new for new's sake is a little pointless.

Thanks and I hear you, the news sites seem to be the biggest offenders.
At least it is good news
Hopefully as stated earlier in the thread it holds true for AT&T. Maybe they will realize with such a big OS release that people will want it sooner than later.
I have a feeling AT&T is going to delay it for at least a month while it figures out what features they want to disable to add in their own bloated, pay to use version of it !
Why is it called lollipop.....suckers.....
So maybe now a nexus 6 is looking good?

Note 4 will skip 5.0.0 and got to 5.0.1

According to Sammobile and Phone Arena, Samsung is going to skip the 5.0.0 update and jump straight to 5.0.1. I'm wondering if this will cause a delay in us getting Lollipop? If we have to wait for 5.1 then that will seriously push the timeline back as the carriers will have to wait for 5.1 in late February and then begin their testing and modifications...

To be honest, they probably had issues with Lollipop on the Note 4, therefor had to update it. I've seen this a lot with companies getting to far ahead of themselves. Let's just hope Samsung makes the proper choice before the carriers f*** it up even more.

Not sure where the "they had problems" wild guess comes from...
However, 5.0.2 is now available. Seems like Google is addressing any 5.0 issues reasonably quick. I have to imagine that the port from 5.0 development to 5.0.2 is not too hard. Intigrating the samsung code over whatever version of android is out at the time is more than likely the way it will roll. At this point it could even be 5.0.3 or .4
