My Barometer doesn't seem to work. It always reads as 1010.9 hPa, which is basically sea level. Since I am at ~3500ft it should not read this. I checked it with CPUz and Pressurenet, both read the same.
Just wondering if anyone else has this problem, or I need a new phone.

I'm at 5030 feet. Mine says 1010.7.
That's 29.90 inHG. I just looked at the local observation and it shows 29.95.

That would be 1012.5 hpa according to wolfram alpha. Mine has read 1010.9 since day 1.
My local weather station is reading 1026 hpa. Phone still at 1010.9 lol. So I think it's broke.

Or the app is not working correctly. I will keep an eye on mine, and see if it stays stuck. It could just be a coincidence that the pressure in my area happens to be really close to the reading that I'm getting.
Mine appears to be stuck as well. Though the pressure has gone up here, the app is reading the same value that it did yesterday.

That pretty much confirms it then. Hopefully just no software supports it yet is all.
tested about all the current ambient temp apps with barometer and they all appear to be broken and need updates.
Newest update to Pressurenet supports the Barometer!
EDIT: And now it is back to not working again. Odd :|
what about ambient room temp?
Try Accurate Barometer. Make sure you have GPS enabled so it can adjust for altitude.

I gave that app a try. It got my location and altitude 100% correct. It gave me a pressure reading of 1312.6 millibars. I'm now dead.
Forgive my ignorance, but what good it the barometer reading?
I know if it's going up or down it s used in predicting rain, but my weather widget just gives me the current rating without trend changes.
Mine seems to be working.

I tried a lot of apps. They all give me the same reading, when adjusted for altitude. Unfortunately, my pressure is now reading 1309mb. Weird thing is, my wife's phone has the exact same altitude and temp, and it is reading 1215mb. It doesn't seem like a whole ton of thought went in to this barometer. Oh well, the barometer on my S3 was just as crappy.
I have a weather station at home and my phone barometer is always in line with that. You may have a defective barometer. Sorry...

No doubt. Just not sure if I should care. It seems like I'm not the only one with a stuck barometer.
I'm past my return period. So I guess that there's really nothing that I can do about it.

Verizon has a warranty. They will replace your phone. The only downside is you get a refurbished phone, not a new one.

I'm confused so please humor me. Is there a temperature sensor and barometer in our phones? If so, is there a native app that utilizes it? If not, why would they include the sensor but no real way to access it appropriately? Thanks in advance
For a defect I think he would get a new one, especially in the first 2 months.

There are a few threads on the various Froyo releases, their features bugs etc. but nothing that touches on Froyo's GPS issues specifically.
I'd like to know whether anyone has successfully changed the 'look ahead' behavior that all the Froyo firmwares come with so far.
For those who have not experienced, i.e. not YET noticed this 'feature', here is a brief description:
On Froyo the GPS is showing you exactly where you are even while driving at speed. There is no delay whatsoever. All is well while you are going in a straight line.
The problems begin when you either stop abruptly or take a sharp turn. It then takes the GPS up to a few seconds to come to terms with what just happened. I can only assume this is due to some software component 'smoothing' the path by making up positions, i.e. looking ahead.
I uninstalled JPH and JPK. GPS doesn't do me any good when I see myself still driving down the same road after I took a right turn 5 seconds ago. JM8 and a number of other Eclair firmwares do not suffer from this.
Has anyone successfully 'downgraded' the GPS component of Froyo? Is this even possible? Is there a way to disable the 'look ahead'.....somewhere hidden in settings or some hidden menu?

Did you turn on the "Use Sensor Aiding" feature? That's new in Froyo. Try turning that off. It's in the Location menu.

Thanks. I thought I had that disabled. Is this on by default? I'll give that a try next time I load a Froyo firmware....if there was a quick way to nandroid back without an Odin restore, EFS fixup plus all the Voodoo conversions that would be sooner rather than later ;-)

Isn't it meant to aid while walking? I can see that this may be causing when driving.
Well, there is absolutely no reason this option to decrease performance.. At least shouldnt be, unless Samsung screwed something up as usual. (which actually may be the case)
I had mine set to "off" by default. There is next to no difference while driving.

As I said in the OP, I've always had the issue that GPS took seconds to realize that I changed direction or suddenly stopped. I'm just guessing that something that is intended to help stabilize GPS at slow speeds (walking, swimming with the dog, etc.) might cause a similar effect while travelling in a car.
swimming with the dog? I shat bricks ;d
Anyway, yes that right. Since its like phone is calculating from the sensor (compass, g-sensor -> speculating here) reads the approximate direction and pace you are moving at. It *might* be a problem with g-sensor read, becouse I find it quite flaky (using gps testing utilities exposes its terrible lag and low sensitivity)
BTW is it better after disabling it?

Well, there was a guy in another thread who claimed his Galaxy GPS was spot on. To proof that he uploaded a track of his walk with the dog and it clearly went right through the river a couple of times........I thought THAT was hilarious! ;-)
I might flash Froyo once again and play with that setting......still hoping that the Galaxy CAN do acceptable GPS. :-|
i'm mostly happy with the gps software on JPK (compared to JM8 which was already better than "official")
but the lag you're speaking about is killing me. there's waaay too much delay. sure it makes nice recorded tracks, but using it you'll see its crap
going to try my track with aiding stuff off tomorrow although im not sure its going to help
Well i am using JPK and the MOTONAV is running......ok, but i got "GPS LOST SIGNAL" every 10 minutes and the map jump around, after 10 seconds it will find signal again and back on track. anoying.
I borrowed an iphone 4 to test that thing's GPS and compare it to the Galaxy.
I have attached the Horror kml track file. It's no better, if not worse, than the Froyo stuff. I certainly did NOT expect that!
The kml can be viewed with Google earth and other GPS programs.....
And for the record....I did drive ON the road at all times ;-)
There is a new trend obviously. The more expensive the phone, the more messed up the GPS. LOL
What a total fail for the high-end devices these days.

The GPS issues will NEVER be resolved - it's a hardware problem. You probably just won't ever get Samsung to admit it, now they try those lame "sensor aiding" dirty fixes, but that's just another proof that it's a hardware problem - why else would they spend time doing the sensor aiding?
EDIT: I hope Samsung proves me wrong

PROVE IT!!! You are presenting hypothesis as fact, and that might be acceptable in places such as Digg, but it is inappropriate on developer websites.
Also, how do you know that sensor aiding required much much work? After all, it's predictable polling from already working/predictable sensors, unlike GPS sensors which pick up a fuzzy idea of where you are, is affected by satellite coverage, etc.
Sensor aiding can assist even GOOD GPS receivers indoors, tunnels and in areas where signal can drop (heavy trees, huge skyscrapers). Yes, even on Garmin units, this can be handy. We all know that the faster you travel the greater inaccuracies which are incurred, and this can help reduce inaccuracies in those scenarios. There are plenty of reasons to implement this functionality, and not all point towards bad hardware. Samsung probably has a few groups of programmers being thrown at different problems, because programmers aren't scalable, and there is a limit to the number of developers which can work on a specific issue/bug/improvement.

You SAID "The GPS issues will NEVER be resolved - it's a hardware problem", and spreading random rumors like that makes XDA appear unprofessional, and benefits nobody. I've just simply noticed a recent trend towards guesses being slowly changed to fact here in XDA developers, and I'd like to try to reduce the frequency of that happening
Hello guys
I received my phone yesterday and it was working nicely but today when I realized, I saw that several sensors weren't working.
After several hours of wiping, flashing roms, RUU's, and so on... my phone is defective 99.9% sure.(NOT!)
I've downloaded the app "Sensor List" by Idea Matters, and it shows me 9 sensors, but the only ones working are the proximity and light sensors.
The first two pictures are from my phone, the other three are from a friends HTC ONE X that is working properly.
The difference is clear enough...lol! Can this be a software related issue?
The ones from him say Panasonic and all of mine say MPL.
BTW: both of our phones were made in Taiwan according to the invoice.
His is white, mine is grey
Tks
EDIT: SOLVED WITH THE STUPIDEST POSSIBLE THING EVER... after all of the trouble, simply went to task manager and did a kill all tasks, working perfectly.
If it happens to you guys, consider simply turning the phone off and on again.Don't do a simple reboot.
Have you tried this?

Never in this world do they have a 20% failure rate. A straw poll on XDA doesnt equate to real life figures, nor do any internet polls as such.
20% failure rates would be picked up at the factory without a doubt. 20% is a damn high figure.
Generally 1% failure is the norm , so at most if things really are bad it'll be at 5%. Never 20%.

Omg... This is the weirdest thing ever...
After having unlocked, relocked, and unlocked the bootloader again...flashing the ruu, flashing several roms, restored factory defaults, restoring through the phone fastboot menu and so on...
Nothing was able to get my sensors working (g-sensor,compass,gravity...).only proximity and light sensor kept working.
The fix after all of my failed attempts was as simple as going to the phones task manager and doing a "kill all tasks".
This is the freakiest and weirdest gadget related issue i have ever seen.

Arguably, the poll isn't measuring anything at all. You can vote more than once, vote if you don't own the phone, vote incorrectly on purpose or because you don't actually know what is a phone defect or a third party software issue, and of course as stated already people with problems are vastly more likely to answer than those without.
The poll is completely meaningless...

Jap, i also try that, nothing changed..
Picture actually looks pretty good for it to be a low light indoor shot. Plus your computer monitor casts a light bleed on your picture. Have to remember this is a camera on a phone and not a high end dslr camera. So pictures in low light can always come out bad and grainy.
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using Tapatalk
Grain in dark pictures are expected. I have a canon 5d mkIII and even with a full-framed sensor, it'll still pick up some grain. Our phone does pretty well for the size of the sensor. Wouldn't sweat it unless the purple hue attacks
This is a well-documented issue with the One.
HTC says it should be fixed in software on the 4.3 update. I'm not 100% convinced. If it's not fixed, I'll be getting rid of the phone. My low-light pictures are awful compared to other phones I've owned.
As for the Canon guy.. I'm sure you have way more settings you can change over the phone's setting to make your 5D pics better
Thank you guys for yours answers,i will play again with my phone's camera's settings. I thought that the Ultrapixell kamera is perfect in low-light. i as wrong..

I didn't know the grainy pics was "well documented." I only know of the purple hue issue. If I use the night setting it helps a lot and I've been pleased with the pics, better than my S4 in many settings.
I suppose you could try night mode, maybe with a low iso to see how your pics look.

Search "htc one camera issue" and you will get a google's worth of results of discussions on the topic.
Purple Hue and Grainy are pretty much the same issue, or I have both issues with two HTC Ones now. I tried every setting in the book. Nothing made it better. Night mode made them blurry on top of it, as I'm holding the phone at a very slow shutter speed, this was expected. Tried ISO as well. It just sucks.

I agree one hundred percent. I envy those of you that do not have this issue. I purchased mine second hand. To my knowledge, the warranty is non-transferable. Just hoping that the Verizon update will patch this, if it is not straight up hardware. I tried the 4.3 roms, but they are ports, and this probably goes deeper than just a surface flash.
If I may be so bold, please allow me to share my experience. I was having an issue with grainy pictures. When I covered my lens it would turn red. I sent a support request to HTC. They gave me the runaround for about 2 weeks saying to wait for 4.3, the software will fix it. Then they told me to use third-party camera apps. Eventually I got mad, closed the ticket. I sat there and fumed and then walked away. A day later I got a "tell us how we did" email. I laced into them and told them that I had a bad experience, that my camera is clearly defective and being told to use third-party apps that still have the issue isn't a fix. I got a response back and they asked if I had considered sending it for repair. I told them that I had never been given that option. The guy told me he was going to call me and he did. We talked for about 5 minutes, he took my info, he sounded like a cool guy. We joked a bit. He offered to pay shipping into HTC. I sent it in.
I got it back today. It's a night and day difference. It's actually catches focus like it should. When I cover the lens it stays jet black. It's a big difference. Send it back. Let them fix it. It sucked to be without it but it took them about a week round trip. It was worth it.

What did they "fix"? Did they state that in the repair documents? Are you still on the current OTA release of software? I'm wondering what the fixed for free that is the root of the actual problem.
I'm on my 3rd phone in 7 weeks now (for other issues than the camera), and I still have the issue.

They didn't share any repair document with me at all. They just shipped my phone back in a "gift" box with a screen rag. No documentation at all. I have to assume that they replaced or repaired the camera sensor. A month or so back there was a link in the forums about trying to narrow down if it was a sensor issue or not. They had us record the camera sensor version. It involved finding a particular file and then opening it in a text file. In any case, even then with only like 35-40 responses there were at least 9 different camera sensor versions. Also, my camera seemed ridiculously sensitive to motion. I don't have the most steady hands but I also don't have seizures every time I take a picture either. The old camera (or firmware) seemed to exaggerate any motion.
As for the OTA, I sent it to them with OTA .8. They shipped it back .10. I've since flashed NuSenseONE but I have a TWRP backup of the ROM as it arrived back to me.. plus logging into a few things. If there is anything in particular that you are interested in, such as a file version or something, let me know.

Nothing I'm particularly interested in. I was wondering if they owned up to it being software or hardware. I too, went through calling HTC, explaining the issue, going through an hours worth of diagnostics on my phone, before they told me it would be fixed in 4.3 release. Perhaps they have a 4.3 release that includes a camera sensor firmware update as well? Are are you suggesting that the camera versions are 9 different versions of hardware?
I don't know.. the camera on here just isn't what it's cracked up to be. It's great in PERFECT conditions, but sub-standard when not in perfect conditions.

I'm not at all sure what I'm suggesting now. I just went back to that survey and looked through the results, and it looks like there are literally 100's of different possible results from that sensors file. What I did find that is probably of no value at all is that my phone, before it was serviced had the following text in the sensor text file:
Before servicing:
st vd6869(1.0) cinesensor 2013-04-29
After servicing:

I don't know if that is just a firmware revision, or the manufacturing date of the sensor itself, but if you look in that link to the survey results there are probably 50 different dates.
Here is something that may be of interest to you. The guy who started the thread mentioned sending it in to repair and they sent him the work order. They replaced his camera with a SHARP sensor and the results he posts are far superior to what he had before. Link here
Is this admission of guilt or just a result of part shortage? Or just typical hardware phase-out/phase-in.

After servicing:

Wow.. I just checked that thread out, and will be calling HTC soon to get a replacement. That's night and day difference, and his before results are similar to mine. It's ruined some experiences in which I thought I would have a good enough phone to captures memories..

I'm glad it helped. I hope they get it swapped out for you and you finally have the camera that you bargained on. I know I'm far happier with my results.

These are the directions I followed from the original survey post:
Use ES File Explorer to find camera module manufacturer (does not have to be rooted). Navigate: Device > sys > android_camera > sensor Open this file as text (eg. st vd6869(1.0) cinesensor 2013-05-10)

So yeah, pretty old it seems.
Guys I have made this thread specifically to address or review issues we are or will face on our G5 plus.
(OP will be modify accordingly as more issues are found)
First issue.
VoLTE connectivity issues??
Not really sure about these issues but some of the guys are facing weird issues regarding VOLTE when using only one sim on 1st sim slot. Are you guys facing anything like this?
I am referring to this:-https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Moto-G5-Moto-G5-Plus/Moto-G5-Plus-VoLTE-issues/m-p/3610582
Solution:-Issue seems to be fix by first inserting any other carrier sim in slot 1 and register it on network than by replacing with JIO.
2nd Issue.
Guys I have come to know that under specific lighting conditions there's some visible horizontal lines all over display is seen for some guys here.
https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Moto-G5-Moto-G5-Plus/Moto-g5-plus-Disply/td-p/3614361
Any of you also have this? Is this issue or what? My unit is still in transit lol.
Solution:-???
u mean first before using jio sim i should put any other carrier sim in phone and use it?

Yes with first slot only. Setup and register with any other sim on slot one. And than replace that with JIO. It should be fine than. :good:

Yes when I first booted up my device with Jio Sim it was not showing VoLte but I just gave a reboot. After that VoLte came and everything is working fine.
I received it today morning and For me all thing was normal. Inserted JIO Sim in first slot and Other in 2nd one and VOLTE is there enabled in Network setting by default yeah though there is no icon of VoLTE in the status bar but calls works fine without any issues. So far everything seems to be good.

I didn't get Google Assistant out of the box. I updated the Google App but no luck. So I ended up disabling Google app. I don't really use the app.
And for the bug fix OTA update, it has not yet come for me.

In my case during normal use no issues. Yes during gaming it does get warm but not hot. The temperature always remain around 40°C while gaming. And yes you are correct due metallic back the whole back surface may feel warm since metal dissipate the heat to keep the Cpu cool.
If your device gets temperature around 45°C then its getting heated up.

Yeah... I checked the temp. in CPU-Z app it was around at 39... So it is normal right? Its not issue? Also here in my city it already a very hot environment, so may be due to that I am having that kind of feeling.

Yes bro don't worry it won't be the case as G4+. Don't panic if your device temp goes around 40 the Soc inside is the best midrange all-rounder. Be happy and use it. This device is just awesome and development are gonna come soon, thanks to squid2.

Yeah... I am very happy to have this device as I was on Osprey which is also a great device. I am also more than happy as squid2 is going to buy it and support the development for G5 Plus as well. His work and contribution for osprey is remarkable. Sometime I wish Someday I will also compile a custom ROM successfully and give my contribution to this community.

I didn't noticed such lines. Have to check that in different lighting. I too see these types of line in my moto e(1st gen) but its vertical and no issue. They are only noticed in direct sunlight at an angle.

Has anybody else noticed a huge jump in floor count since the last update?
I used to think maybe it was a bit low and undercounted but now I'm getting huge numbers for the same daily routine?
