I followed the extra steps on this guide: http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-manually-upgrade-or-downgrade-the-amazon-fire-tv/ to try and get the downgrade to proceed. But it didn't work.
This is my first Fire TV wouldn’t allow the downgrade update to run. So I followed the extra steps, but it didn’t work. I get a “No space left on device” error. http://imgur.com/76wW5n8
And when I tried recovery reboot, it just sits on the white amazon logo now. I can boot normally with no problem though. Just getting to recovery seems to be an issue now.
Any ideas? It’s a brand new FireTV so there shouldn’t be anything filling up the space. And I deleted the update.zip from /cache before attempting it.

I am stuck on the exact same error. Had to follow additional steps. Could you please describe what you meant by 'downloading a full rom instead of recovery'? Thanks

Okay so basically I decided to root my Kindle Fire. I have rooted my android phone and my iPod before so I wasn't too worried about it, but it's gone horribly wrong and I need major help.
So here's what happened:
I got my root from rootkindlefire.com and followed the necessary steps (i'm running on 6.3.1)
It got halfway through and froze and I stupidly unplugged my kindle
Then it was stuck on this screen with a yellow triangle with a flame in it and at the bottom is said press power button for recovery, but when I pressed it nothing happened
So I went messing around online, in my drivers, etc. I ended up deleting my kindle drivers (like the original ones) and now my kindle is freaking out.
I watched this other tutorial on rootkindlefire.com and tried to follow the steps on how to unbrick it but when I managed to get into the recovery (i can't remember what it's called? blue screen with options like install, mount, reboot, etc.) and put the zip drive he said to, in there... i couldn't see it.
I then downloaded KFU and managed to get my kindle to reboot, but it is now stuck on the "Kindle Fire" screen. I can turn it off, get into recovery, etc. I cannot get it to move past the start up screen however.
I do not believe I am in fastboot, but one of the sites I was on could have misled me. Anyway... HELP! please... I'm sad:/

I followed all the steps and everything worked just like it said....but when my kindle rebooted, it is still stuck at the kindle fire screen but now there's animation...which it did not have before.
Any suggestions?
If your getting animation and it doesn`t go any further this usually indicates a broken system which TWRP are you using ? If you are using 2.3.1.1 there`s a problem with how it formats best you revert to an older version 2.2.2.1 or older then it should work for you. Full wipe except your external storage/sdcard, refalsh rom and gapps. The proper methods for wiping are also provided in the link I gave you.
Very good point though make sure your using the newest version of KFU 9.6 the older version uses burrito root which no longer works on the Kindle Fire. Really though alll you need is a bootloader and recovery rooting is obsolete.

First off, definitely listen to Thepooch and Josepho1997. Next, do you just want a rooted KF running the basic 6.3.1 firmware, or will you be switching to ICS or JB?
Next, is the blue screen you mentioned the TWRP screen? (TeamWin screen with 8 different choices)? If you are, then go to (I think) the bottom right and select mount, then mount system or USB or whatever it says. After that you can add files for a custom ROM or whatever you want through your computer. I forgot to mention that you need to of your KF into your computer.

Help
I have done everything that has been listed here. My kindle is stuck on the kindle fire screen, I can not boot into recovery and I do believe the TWRP that was previously on it, has been removed as well as the OS...My son was messing with it and all I could get out of him was he was on a blue screen and swiped to reboot and he thought it said no OS installed. So, I have the done the Alternate method for rooting, however, when run the kfu, it says its online but boot status is unknown. I can not get it to say any different. What am I doing wrong?
HI Guys,
I need some help, i cant peform a factory reset or boot into CWM, i was not able to reboot into CWM after the first installation. I rooted my AFTV these are the steps.
1) block updates on router.
2) fire tv running stock version 51.1.0.1
3) rooted fire tv (installed towelroot, supersu and busybox)
4) disable updates via adb on the fire tv
5) partially unlock boot loader
6) install CWM 6.0.5.1.4a (yes i granted su permission)
At this point fire tv rebooted but it did not bring CWM instead it went to straight to normal amazon boot. I tried alt+printscn approach but didn't work. When i try to get into cwm via adb command "adb reboot recovery" it will reboot and for a split sec i see blue screen and but then it boots up in normal amazon menu.
So i decided to do factory rest and start over.....problem is it is not really resetting the box, it takes me to the initial amazon sign in screen, i enter my login info and bang into main menu and all my apps that was there before are still installed.
Good news is i can still adb to the box and have root access.
any suggestion who to fix this?
I am still running on stock version 51.1.0.1 and i have not installed rbox boot menu. Also, i have done rooted 6 boxes so i am fairly familiar with the process and steps to follow.
Thank you

I also tried to upgraded but after the zip file was adb to the box fire tv did reboot but didn't go thru the installation process.
Any other suggestion guys please? I hate to return this box since it has root since it is getting harder and harder to find AFTV which has root able firmware?
I have been trying to get into CWM via "Alt+print Scrn + i" for few days now but without any luck i have tried this with wired and wireless keyboard, I hold these 3 keys simultaneously as soon as i see the white amazon logo and again when i see the colorful amazon log. Am i doing something?
However, when i do manage it get into CWM. What should i do? Should i select wipe data/Factory reset option? Will this take my AFTV to the way it came from amazon? I am still running amazon stock version 51.1.0.1 and fully rooted with Super su and busybox installed.
Thank you

You need to get in CWM to upgrade to a pre-rooted image.
Have you tried to downgrade (reverse) to factory as per above link? That should work without no issues, should bring your box back to stock and you can start from zero again. I done it numerous times however you need to read carefully and follow the guide step by step sending all the commands one by one in ADB

I tried to revert it back to stock following aftvnews guide step by step, read it over and over before actually doing it but on the final steps, AFTV will reboot but does not install the actual files.
i also rooted another box last night and everything went fine so i am not sure whats up with this box.
Thanks
Updated my rooted Amazon Fire TV to 51.1.5.0_515020820. Now I'm stuck on "Amazon Fire TV" logo. Clockwork recover is installed. I cannot ADB to a network connection to issue Adb Reboot Recovery. If I connect a USB keyboard Control-Alt-Delete will reboot Amazon Fire TV. I did try Alt-PrintScrn-i to get to the default recovery screen but I think that is disabled when you install Clockwork mod. Any ideas?
Wow.. Exactly same result doing exactly same thing!!
Don't have a USB keyboard so haven't tried that yet. Also while searching I came across a method which involve connecting FTV with computer using a A to A type USB cable while power is unplugged and then putting the power cable back on triggers fastboot mode, did you try that?
i am too, now i can not connect:crying:
Unbricked.. Yay!!

So I was able to unbrick my AFTV with the same Alt+Prt Scr+i keyboard method already posted before. It took sometime and AFTV rebooted 3-4 times before finally going to recovery, since I had cwm recovery installed, it directly went to cwm.
OP, I dont know why this method didn't work for you.. As i mentioned above, it didn't go to stock recovery but directly to cwm. I guess you should try again.
To anyone who does the same mistake again, I had the soft brick because I missed flashing the FTV boot menu by rbox. I was coming from older version ( 51.1.3.0_513011820), and while I did install the rbox's prerooted stock 51.1.4.0_514006420+updated before flashing the latest update, I missed flashing the boot menu (I did know about it and even moved the .img file to FTV with all other files, somehow just forgot to flash it inbetween the 2 updates).
I have the same issue but managed to get clockwork mod to be displayed. What option did you choose? Install from zip? Clear partions?

If you in cam recovery screen, you can see your fire tv box's ip at the low left screen. You can not connect cause of your ip has changed (in my ip changes from 192.168.1.103 to 192.168.1.110).
Then you can use adb push to copy rom image to your fire tv and install it. Good luck

Yes.
1.you can use command adb connect 192.168.xxx.xxx
2. Adb push (your path rom file)
Or use tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2786505

I had the same issue with the latest custom firmware soft bricking my device. I managed to get back to recovery screen, then reloaded previous firmware and everything was back as it was.
Can anyone advise on what steps are best to get the newest custom firmware on my device ?
I have read things about re-flashing rbox recovery screen, etc ?
If you are on 51.1.5.0 and you are stuck on the amazon logo and never saw bootmenu, that means you didn't follow the instructions for flashing 51.1.5.0 which say you must have bootmenu.
I just updated last night and it works great--painless process. And I was coming from 51.1.4.0 which on this particular aftv meant unlocking bootloader, installing boot menu, then pushing the rom.zip.
A lot of steps but I thought it was really easy. I followed the guide aftvnews meticulously put together and don't think I strayed from it at all.
*Obviously this post is for people reading about issues other users are reporting and it might give them pause to install it. I don't think it should because its not hard. Take the time to check all md5 sums! It might be worth it...make certain ALL prerequisites are met.

This is where I went wrong. I have 4 fire tv's, and I have always updated them together with no problem. I mistook "boot menu" to think that was a reference to CWM menu. I always thought of that as the "boot menu", when in fact that was my mistake and the cause for bricking the two devices. In this scenario there is no way to unbrick that I can find. The keyboard alt i print screen is a no go, fastboot is a no go, I have tried everything but unless there is something I am missing, I made a mistake and it cost me two firetvs.

Well that is why the post for the prerooted images links to the boot menu post... but fastboot will only work if you did the full unlock. If you're not fully unlocked and sysrq doesnt work, then you are stuck.

Thank you so much!! just a little heads up, you will need to connect the Fire TV with the LAN cable so this could work, then you could use ADB from your computer to push the correct rom, my mistake was that I installed Boot Menu before updating to 51.1.4.0 and then I updated to 51.1.5.0, big mistake! you need to install Boot Menu before updating to 51.1.5.0 and to fix my problem I just downgraded to 51.1.4.0 from ClockworkMod Recovery
Cheers!!
Hi all, I basically registered here to ask this question, so I hope there's somebody can help me.
I've just applied the rbox root process as defined here : <link removed as I'm a new user and can't post urls, but it's basically the instructions on aftvnews>
There were a few ups and downs along the way, but I sorted out all the minor things in the end and completed the process. Unfortunately my FireTV is now stuck at the white amazon logo.
I can access TWRP recovery, and while I am here I can connect via adb.
I applied rbox's unbrick process to see if that helped matters, power cycled and came back to TWRP (I think I should have been expecting to go to a direct boot there, but not entirely sure). From TWRP I went to do a reboot but it asked me if I was really sure as there was no OS. That sounded like a bad idea to reboot so I reapplied the rooted 5.0.5.1 r1 image that was sitting in my /sdcard directory. Back to the original problem - stuck at the white amazon logo.
I've cleared the cache, cleared the system, reapplied the rooted rom and everything else I can think of, but I always end up back at the same issue. All roms applied using md5 checking, so the files weren't corrupted when I transferred them via adb or anything.
Since I can access TRWP I can't be competely screwed. Really hoping somebody has a suggestion (that will also get my kids off my back as they are currently without netflix )
Nobody?
I can't help feeling this is almost there if I can just get over this last problem!
[SOLVED] (sort of)
OK, in case anybody reads this, this one solved itself. I basically left the fireTV plugged in for several days and when I connected it back to the screen it was working. Not a clue what it was that sorted itself out, but very odd
I unlocked my firestick 2 using the instructions here and everything worked fine. I then decided to install Lineage OS using the instructions here . It got stuck on "patching system image unconditionally" and I made the mistake of rebooting.
It is now stuck on the white amazon logo and does not show up in ADB. Any help will be appreciated!

Start the script boot-recovery.sh, then Plug the stick in. The script should say "waiting on preloader" then run, when the device is pluggedin, if the script is completing and you are not booting into recovery, then you might have corrupted something when you unplugged. You may have to open the device and start the exploit over.
