Bluetooth headphone audio dropout issue - Sony Smartwatch 3

**** FIXED - it is a software problem with my tracks. GPS and Bluetooth work great through other GPS apps ****
I have a pair of bluebuds x and Jabra rox headphones and I get serious audio skipping and Bluetooth dropouts when streaming audio in offline mode. It happens at different spots on the same songs, but different again by headphone so I think it is the smartwatch.
Anyone else experiencing this? I took them running with the watch for two 5 mile jogs and it's worse when moving than when standing still. Also seems worse with my tracks watch GPS running without phone.
I did the resets, repairing headsets, etc...
Hopefully it's a firmware fix as they sound fine directly connected to my moto x. Anyone else try this?
- sent from tablet, so apologize for typos

bad news...
My question is about your running session. Did you use any app without the phone to track it? Is Google fit or My Tracks good enough for the GPS thing?, at least to wait for full proper running apps (without the need of the phone).

Using Google tracks without the phone.... Do you have issues too?

Not, just curious. My sw 3 will arrive next week.

Update...I swapped out my watch for a new one and still the same issue, so it must be the unit. I get Bluetooth drops when playing offline when
- screen goes from active to stanby mode
- When my tracks is running in active mode (works in mute mode), so something between the apps is causing problems

Next test would be different bluetooh headphones.... or just wait for more reports from other users.

I tried three pairs of headphones! Jabr Rox, Bluebuds X and Plantronics.
All the same issue!

and 2 watches, right?
So we are now sure the crappy support for bluetooth at the moment. While we wait for future updates, can you try to select the lowest quality for offline playback in Google play music?
Perhaps high bitrate mp3 are not well managed by the watch... Just guessing.

You cant change the offline bitrate on google music...it is predetermined. Lets hope android wear 2.0 supposed to be ready this week fixes this and much more!

Ok. Let's hope a fix is coming, but I would not think about wear 2.0. Google only said features like gps and music would be the next step and that is already here. The other watches got the update a couple of weeks ago... So I think we're already in "2.0".

I tried again today, just music, no tracks (no gps) and no skipping. So it must be a joint radio issue for sure

I've got the Bluetooth music stuttering too, but only with my tracks (gps) and offline music playing. No problem with offline music play without my tracks. I think too this must be a problem with the Bluetooth and gps combo. Since the main reason I bought the Smartwatch 3 was as a fitness wearable for running. The only thing that sets this device apart is the phone free music with gps, Bluetooth, and wifi radios. I hope they can fix it through a update. Otherwise I won't be keeping it and can't recommend it.

I can report no stuttering with Plantronics Backbeat GO 2 with offline music play. Didn't try it in conjunction with GPS though.

Well ive tried it every which way with the Sony ws-610s and no skipping at all! Not sure what bluetooth they use, ill have a look tomorrow.

I got my SW3 today
I can confirm the stuttering when the screen goes to standby and when you start applications, etc.
I started the gps (from the developer menu) and did not get any stuttering.
I'm thinking that this is more of a software problem (at kernel level) and not a hardware problem so it might be fixed (at least I hope so) with a firmware update.
EDIT: I forgot to mention that I'm using the Sony SBH20 bluetooth headset
I guess we should file a bug for this.

I was afraid of getting the skip issue from this thread, however, today was the first day that I was able to try the offline features of the watch. I have no skipping issues at all and that was running both the GPS and the Headset for music with the screen turning off during my run. I am running the new Sony MDR-AS800BT headset. So far this headset is definitely one of the better ones that I have owned for sport use! It does not fall out whatsoever.

I wonder if it has something to do with the Bluetooth version. My headset is BT 3.0. I guess the MDR-AS800BT is BT 4.0 or later.
I keep thinking this is a problem of resources... the kernel is putting the cores in the processor in a economy state that is not powerful enough to encode to the BT headset and simultaniously handle the my tracks app and the GPS flow. Android 4.3 had a bug like that and they did fix it.

Maybe the difference in user experiences depends on whether music is in 128kbps or 320kbps or more. Can anyone with stuttering try with maybe the same song with different mp3 bitrates?
I'm looking to buy this thing, but after my terrible experience with Samsung Gear Fit, I am waiting to see the user experiences and problems.
GPS erratic differences may be as a result of some users not waiting long enough to get decent GPS fix, which takes a while with standalone devices and no network.

I tried the jabra rox, which were bt 4.0 and then bluebuds x which were 2.1 and the rox were actually worse. No Sony headphones to test here in NY at the major retailers.
I think it's software too or perhaps the tracks app is bad with resources

The MDR-AS800BT is bluetooth 3.0, as for the sound quality I was using 320kbps files in my run. No issues whatsoever. Anyone tried lossless files? I wanted to try tidal on the wear for offline playback. I hope they get the walkman soon to use with the wear.

[Q] bluetooth audio issues - intermittent

Hey everyone. Gotta say, i love this phone its the android device i always wanted. However, im having issues with my car bluetooth which i have not experienced before... namely, that random phonecalls sound completely digitized.
Ive come from an htc desire and htc sensation on the same car without issue and am worried i got a bad BT antenna-or its software...
Anyone out there experiencing the same thing? Any advice (other than buying a new car)?
I am having the same issues on a Verizon Galaxy Nexus V4.02. If I turn bluetooth off mid-call the earpiece sounds fine. The static only happens during voice calls, streaming A2DP sounds fine. There are bluetooth improvements listed in the 4.03 changelog, hopefully this will be resolved.
I had some problems with my BT speaker phone. I turned off the key press sounds and the screen off sounds and that pretty much fixed it.
I have an off topic question for you guys that use bluetooth streaming. Can start the car and press play from the HU to start music? I can with my old D2, but not my TB. I have to actually start the music player on the thunderbolt, then I can control it from my HU. I would like to upgrade, but I don't see a huge advantage in upgrading if I still can't start my music without having to actually take the phone out of my pocket. (Yes, I know it's stupid, but I'm lazy.)
I have this same issue in one of my cars. I ran a number of tests and the issue only occurs on my vehicle when the phone is connected to both for telephony and a2dp music. The static occurs whether or not a2dp is actually being used to stream music or not. This particular vehicle has two separate devices for music and telephony. If I unpair or disconnect the music device, then telephony works without the audio distortion. As soon as I reconnect the music device, the static is re-introduced.

I am experiencing this issue as well and have not been able to resolve it. I've tried disabling the touch sounds, screen off sounds, etc. but to no avail.
It pretty much makes handsfree unusable while driving. What have you guys done in the meantime? Have you been able to resolve the issue yet?
Here's my specific details:
Phone: Verizion LTE Galaxy Nexus v4.02 stock/unrooted
Handsfree Car System (phone audio): Stock 2007 Audi A4
Separate A2DP Module (media audio): Dension Gateway Five connected to factory Stereo
All of my previous phones (Thunderbolt, Droid X, Incredible, OG Droid) have fully supported this setup with no issues whatsoever.
On a sidenote, my A2DP streaming is also unreliable. It first has trouble connecting to the device. If/when it does, audio constantly cuts out when streaming Pandora, Slacker Radio, Google Music... pretty much any streaming over network connection. I have not tried locally stored music yet as I don't have any currently stored on my device. Are you guys experiencing this A2DP issue as well?
I wonder how widespread this is and if it warrants opening an official issue with Google.
I used to have a Blackberry Torch, and I have a Ford Mustang. When I would connect the BT to it, if the Wifi was on, it would "interfere" with the signal. Turning wifi off, fixed the issue. This was a widely known issue with the Torch. Granted that shouldn't have to be a fix, but can any of you verify whether your wifi is on? (regardless of if its connected to anything or not). I'm wondering if the Nexus is using the same BT/WIFI chip that the Torch used.

I appreciate the suggestion but unfortunately, I have the issue even if WiFi is off (I never use WiFi).
I'm going to try and toggle a few of the sound and haptic feedback settings a little more to see if it's pertinent to a certain on/off configuration. It's a shot in the dark but I'll try anything at this point.
ok it was worth a shot. Maybe on a whim turn off 3g/data so basically its airplane mode except BT is on? Just to eliminate any RF interference. Other than that I dont know
Spent quite a bit of time in the car today to try and pinpoint a cause and I have had no luck.
Phone audio will sound great and then all of the sudden turn digitized and distorted for a random period of time, then revert back to sounding great. One thing to note is that the distortion is both ways - the person I'm talking to also hears it when I speak and cannot understand what I'm saying. It's very frustrating not being able to use this feature.
I am on my 2nd replacement phone and ALL of them have had this issue (returned two others to VZW due to this issue and the speaker clicking issue). I am still wondering if it is software/OS releated or if it's due to poor hardware.
Quick Update (kind of):
I messed around with more settings last night. I am happy to report that after I disabled NFC last night, I made several handsfree calls in my car with perfect clarity and no issues. Also, A2DP streaming Pandora worked flawlessly! I was happy that I thought I pinpointed the issue - NFC interference.
BUT this morning, I made a handfree call and it was immediately distorted. Frownie face! A2DP Streaming Pandora still worked great. I am now trying to determine if my success last night was a fluke or if something is different with the phone this morning. The only difference from last night to this morning, that I have been able to identify so far, is I now have the extended battery in the phone. Last night's success had the standard battery. I'll switch them back at lunch and re-test.

I've got the same issue. Even with NFC disabled. Makes listening to Pandora in the car unbearable. I've gone through the same steps as you, but hasn't exchanged the phone yet. I've had previous Androids and it was a hit/miss with the distortion, but with an iPhone or BB never had this issue. Go figure.
thanks to all the replies, will update to 4.0.3 and try out some more options.
- unplugging my music dongle had no effect on call quality
- NFC on or off had no effect
I also find that the music adapter never auto-connects and needs me to go in to the BT settings page and manually select it.
thanks all.
Hello again. So I have an update that adds to the flakiness ...
Updated to the Bugless Beast ROM and Franco's kernel. My intent was to completely reset the phone and hopefully get a new Bluetooth stack in the process.
Initially everything paired OK, but after a while my audio randomly disconnects after about 20minutes and then reconnects depending on its mood.
My phone connection is more controllable now: if the BT is enabled on my phone when I turn on the car, the sound quality is entirely digitized and unusable. If I turn on the car and THEN enable my phone, the sound quality is flawless every time.
Still not ideal, but manageable. For the music audio part, I lay the blame entirely on the Audi Music Interface BT adapter: the thing is crap and always in pair mode even with the car turned off! The telephone BT in the car head unit has seen several phones pair with it without any issues (I do mobile development so I get to play with many phones) so in that case, I can't blame anything but the Nexus.
I really hope someone at Google or Samsung reads these threads since it would be tough to troubleshoot, but there's no doubt an issue exists with general BT compatibility.

Anyone have an update on this issue? Does anyone know of a ROM with a different Bluetooth stack than AOKP? I love everything else about AOKP. I have had the same garbled bluetooth audio from stock - 4.03 with franco and faux kernels with the same result. I had similar problems with Cyanogen 7 ROM I was using on my Incredible the week before I bought the Nexus.
Update - I experimented with a couple of additional devices, and the multiple connections problem with my Nexus is limited to A2DP only devices.
I am now using a Garmin BlueTrip with "phone audio" deselected in bluetooth options. As long as the additional bluetooth device is handsfree profile capable, the A2DP functions perfectly, calls are clear, and the device reconnects after a power cycle consistently. I'm glad this appears to be a software issue and not something we will have to live with for the life of the phone. I'm sure a future update will correct this issue.
I'm also having a problem with Bluetooth calls sounding very digitized and/or choppy. It is bad enough that it can be extremely difficult to make out what the caller is saying. A2DP, on the other hand, has performed pretty flawlessly and the device consistently reconnects each time I get in the car (although it can take up to 30 seconds or so).
I'll have to do a little experimenting with some of the settings mentioned in this thread to see if they have any affect.
On a related note, I feel like sometimes calls made/recieved on the handset can sound digitized as well (although not nearly as bad as over bluetooth). Has anyone else experienced this?
My hardware is:
Verizon GNex (4.0.2)
Parrot MKi9000

Gap & silent during listen music

-when listen music either on HTC music widget or PowerAmp
- got Gap and silent when using Bluetooth headset
- works fine if direct connect to the ONE X
any idea and fix ???
I've yet to see if this works for bluetooth but had a look at the ROMeOS rom and saw this in the build.prop as monx seams to have fixed the stutter: lpa.decode=true
I've set this in my build.prop and will try through the car bluetooth tomorrow.
To edit build.prop in the system folder you will need root access
thanks , buddy , let me know the result.
Unfortunately made no difference for me, will keep digging though as this is annoying when I have a 40 min commute to work each morning and again back.
Anyone have any idea's?
Edit: this doesn't just happen on the beats setting, turning it off makes no difference.
Anyone have any ideas on any fixes yet?

Have the same stutter issue even after 1.28 update connected with my bluetooth MW600.
Seems the problem is device switching to power conserve core. When i play music in background while running GPS in foreground, iam not getting the stutter.

After using MW600 for 2+ yrs without much issues iam thinking to order Sony Smart wireless Headset Pro and see if it makes some difference. But, its not yet available in stock

I read somewhere that some custom ROMs solve music stutter issue. Iam on stock locked and can't comment though.

I was also planning on buying that Sony thing, but then I found my Nokia BH 214 back. It is now charging and when I'm back home I will test it. If it also stutters, I'm not going to buy a new headset, because it's likely to have the same problems, although that Sony is Bluetooth 3.0, which could make a difference.
I'll let you know the results with the Nokia.
I have stutter problem with sennheiser Bluetooth headphones. Am on stock 1.28, and disabling beats doesn't help (although did help on older version)

I'm running 1.28 & have the same issue with my car kit which is a works supplied Nokia car kit that allows A2DP connections. I'm definitely going to try running the GPS at the same time on my way home from work to see it that fixes it as suggested. I have a usb charger that I plug in so won't be using any extra juice. I'll post back my results.

Sorry for the very late reply, I completely forgot it. Just yet I tested the Nokia BH 214. First my One X couldn't find it, tried for almost 10 minutes. Then I disabled WiFi, just to try, and yes the headset was found. Then I put WiFi back on, but it refused to communicate. Wifi off again, communicating worked. So to say pairing was easy: far from that.
Now the next phase: listening to music. Completely unusable. Very very bad. There's something wrong with output, vocals are washed away and sound like the singer is 100 miles away. While quality isn't an issue with the MW600. But also the gaps. What is also very strange is when the phone is on my desk in line of sight with my headset, the are only a few gaps. But as soon as I put the phone in my pocket, the gaps increase exponentially.
So I think in my case the only thing left is to send the phone back. There must be something wrong with it, my WiFi reception is also very bad. Bluetooth also sucks, so since WiFi and Bluetooth are handled by the same chip, there must be something wrong with it. I really like the phone and sending it back means it's away for 2/3/? weeks, but first I hoped it was something with the software but that hope is fading away.
--------edit: just pissed of by all this. Called HTC and I'm sending it back for repair. Nice phone, but basics like WiFi and Bluetooth must work and they don't. They said it will be back in 7-10 working days. Hope they can keep that promise. --------
Have the same problem with my Jabra Freeway, really annoying to get thos silent gaps when listening to podcasts and music in the car. Tried to run navigation on my way to work today to see if that made any difference but it didn't :-(

I just tried using my Moto S10-HD after reading this, and thought I would tell you my experience. I have alot of music on my phone, and I just hooked up my BT with Wifi on and no issues, so I started to play music and so far 3 songs and no gaps stutter or anything like that. One thing that does happen which prior phones didnt happen is that when the screen goes to stand by after not touching it, there is a .5 second interruption in the song, but thats it I am currently on my forth song and the phone is in "standby" mode and it plays perfectly.
I have the WWE version of the phone using 1.29.401.11 ROM BL unlocked, rooted, and custom stock rom.
Not sure that it helps you but to share my experience; I have occasional stuttering on bluetooth using my Sennheisers if the phone is in my pocket. I found that I can replicate the stuttering if I completely cover the top of the phone with a hand on either side and cupped together at the top - in fact I can cut off bluetooth playback altogether.
This isn't a normal way of holding the phone obviously - but it does count if the phone is in your pocket, there is already some 'resistance/interference' from the surroundings. Other than that, I have great wifi reception, best of any phone I have had.
Could this be a hardware fault? Maybe they just need to boost the bluetooth signal / improve buffering?
I only got my HOX this week, aside from this issue it is great, no other issues - touch wood
Mine seemed to studder when it was in my pocket while I walked my dog. I sent it in for other issues and we'll see if the new one has similar issues.
Same problem here ! Kinda disapointed !
Same problem SonyEricsson HBH-IS800
I also have a lot of stuttering. It appears to be a very weak signal because it works better (though still not flawless) when I have the phone close to the headset.
Putting the phone in my pocket is already far enough for playback to completely stop working.

Bluetooth is somewhat broken.....

I have to unpair and repair my Bluetooth headset every single time I use it. (phone audio only). Looks like Samsung really borked up BT.
Thinking about upgrading to MDL this weekend to see if that fixes it.
i dont know about bluetooth with car, but i listen to my bluetooth headphones every day at work for hours and i have had no probs whatsoever with my bluetooth. it paired really easy like too easy and that was it.
I guess thanks for the fact that at least it works manually so in my case its a 100% software issue.

Had minor issues (device based) when it was "paired" to 2 devices.
Use Bluetooth Auto Connect from play store. I was having the same problem except mine connected on to media instead of phone. That app fixed it right up.
Mine will drop connection intermittently to my VW RNS-315 head unit and also drop connection to my Jawbone Icon HD. When it drops the Jawbone I often see a message on the screen that says Bluetooth Sharing has crashed. Not sure if this is as a result of the rooting process or if it's a glitch in the latest firmware. Hoping Samsung will fix and T-Mo will release patch soon.
Have yet to have an issue here with my S4 and my JVC Arsenel (Dont remember which model #, was one of the higher single DIN units a year ago though), use it daily and it connects on its own without issue / hassel both phone and media
I experience the same phone only problem with my Ford Sync system, I have to manually check Media audio, but it pairs both the first tube after unpairing. I'll try the Play Store app and report back today. I will say is nice to see voice control over bluetooth has been fixed in Jelly Bean.
UPDATE: Bluetooth Auto Connect (The first one listed in a Play Store search by Jakub Klos) works flawlessly to connect Phone and Media audio. Thanks @Sym_Link!
No problems with bluetooth here, my Pioneer radio in my Grand Marquis, both audio and phone sync flawlessly. However, my Sony unit in the Saturn, will sync the phone no problem, but I still have to manually check the box to sync with audio.
My experience w/ BT audio has been variable. I have an aftermarket head unit installed on a '05 Acura RSX (JVC-NSX1 - http://www.crutchfield.com/ISEO-rgbtcspd/p_105NSX1/JVC-KW-NSX1.html).
Note: my headunit also utilizes MirrorLink...which is just flippin' awesome.
BT Media audio seems to be very app dependent. I use Grooveshark and Play Music for my day to day listening, and I find that my Grooveshark will auto-play when BT Connects but if I'm going from a fresh power cycle of my automobile to Google Play I have to start the app on my phone prior to accessing the in-dash controls on my head unit.
Other times I can just select in dash controls and it will play Play Music.
Ironically, since the iOS 6.0 update plugging in the GF's iPhone no longer plays audio (freaking Apple). So if she wants to stream media it's only available over BT. Ah, progress!

Bluetooth problem when streaming in car?

None of you guys have any issues with streaming audio music/pandora/google music on your phone to the car? My problem is getting worst and I cant stand it any longer. The music would skip constantly every few seconds making it unbearable. I checked google and few people has problems with it on androidcentral, im surprised no thread for it on here?
No issues here since device came out. Have a uconnect setup in my car and stream everything from my phones BT to the vehicle's BT. My old device did that often, had an older version of BT though I think? I've yet to have issues, sure maybe 1-2 times every week a song might skip a beat but not at all on the regular. If it's a regular occuranxe it could be a bad connection. I would then delete the profile and link from scratch the vehicle and phone's BT.
Also while listening and if it gets bad. Stop the BT connection, then reconnect. Sometimes a reconnection is better than your previous and skips go away. I just turn BT off on my device, wait a few minutes, then turn it back on and let the 2 connect. Try this and the above, those 2 methods should work if not one or the other.

I get static issues if someone calls me while I am listening to bluetooth audio, and then switch back to music. Usually switching to the radio and then back to bluetooth audio resolves this. Try making sure your settings in pairing options are set to allow data transfer between the device and your car. I initially could not even connect my device until I checked off that option.
I used to have the issue with HTC One M7 and Galaxy S4 in my Renault Medianav, but no such issues with the One M8,.
I can semi- validate this issue. I have three Bluetooth devices. My headset for phone calls will get some static if my M8 is also connected to my HTC Stereoclip, but goes away as soon as I'm out of range of the Stereoclip. Because of this, and the fact my Stereoclip runs on battery and often fails to disconnect after I leave car mode, I tried switching out my Stereoclip for the RocketFish Bluetooth Music Receiver.
Now, I don't get the static, but when streaming music through the RocketFish, it skips every 20-40 seconds. I've swapped out the RocketFish twice and have had the same issue each time.
Based on queries on the Android Revolution HD thread, the developers are saying it's a base issue and needs to be fixed by HTC.
I just find it odd that the Stereoclip will steam media without skipping, but third party hardware like the RocketFish does skip. Also, my headset doesn't get the aforementioned static issues with the RocketFish.
Also worth noting I have not had both the Stereoclip and RocketFish paired to my phone at the same time.

Just wanted to second this. Mine isn't that bad, but every so often (3-5 minutes) the music skips about 0.5 seconds. Have tried stopping my navigation app, putting the phone to sleep, and unplugging the charger. Nothing works so far.
Pretty sure it is not a pairing issue since this started the first time I paired my phone to the car stereo.
Needless to say, not happening when listening with headphones or speakers.
Any insight or updates would be very helpful. Thanks.
Have a cheap'ish Chinese double din headunit (Xtrons).
M8 connects fine to phone and music with no issues with calls or music

I have the same problem using a Sony Bluetooth Speaker BTX300.
It's really annoying. It happens with Deezer, Spotify or internal mp3. It does not happen on voice calls.
Maybe it's something related to the Bluetooth bitrate not handled correctly by device ?
Only happens to me in stock radio over bluetooth with the mylink system in the new chevys. No problem with my Kenwood head unit in my Cherokee though

On stock Bell ROM, pre camera/EPSM update, happened every minute in my 2011 Subaru WRX as well as my Motorola Buds. I flashed InsertCoin 2.4.0 and ElementX 0.10 today... no more skipping. Not sure which it was.
I'd had this issue before on my m7 with Pandora. Are you guys using adaway? If so, disable it and try again, it should go away

Hi guys,
Resurrecting this thread. I am having skipping/stuttering issues with my phone when streaming using Spotify over bluetooth A2DP.
I've tested this on 3 different bluetooth devices (Volvo, Belkin and another bluetooth speaker).
The problem is very annoying, once the screen goes off, music would slightly pause every 20-30 seconds.
This happens when using Spotify and TuneIn Radio.. so I'm pretty sure it's not an application problem.
Anyone else having the same problem? I'm running 4.4.3 - 2.07.980.2..
Also, I'm pretty sure this only started happening after the latest update from HTC.

[UPDATE] I've tried doing some tests with turning wifi - OFF and I did not experience any sound/music skips during this morning commute. I will see how this goes in the next few days.

I'm using an app that starts playing music as soon as I connect to my cars Bluetooth. Luckily this app also provides "wifi off on connect"
Gonna give this a try. Really hope this fixes the audio drops. Hate it.

So from one day with Wifi off I can definitely tell it doesn't drop audio on Bluetooth streaming anymore.
So turn your Wifi off to fix the m8 ?

Glad it works for you as well, this has fixed the problem for me most of the time. I use the Trigger app to turn off wifi when bluetooth connects.
On another issue which I don't think is related to the above, on my Volvo at random times, I still have severe stuttering issues to the point that you almost can't tell what music is playing. I've been having this since day 1 with the M8 and not from recent fw upgrade as above. I'm not sure whether this is Spotify or the bluetooth stack tho.
Nevertheless, any of the blueooth issues were something I never experienced with Samsung Galaxy S3, Xperia Z or any other phones. HTC!!, are you listening!?!
rBlink
I have the same problems connecting to my Arcam rBlink at home with my M8. Music dropouts every 20-30 secs. Streaming from my sons M7 is flawlessly.
Stopping Wifi makes it slightly better but is no option since I want to use spotify over wifi.
Could it be a problem with a low bit rate for bluetooth audio?
Arcam gives the advice to increase it for OS X as high as 58.
I am also getting this issue as of late....
I'm using an unrooted Sprint M8 HK phone.
My problem is audio drop out (0.5 sec) constantly. Doesn't make a difference over BlueTooth or the speakers.
It appears that it is related to the phone accessing something during playback which causes the dropout.
It does it when streaming over wif or data... it even does it with audio that I have downloaded to my SD card...
I have uninstalled everything back to when I thought the issues started with no luck.
Anyone with any ideas? I see where some have had this issue and even a hard reset (wipe) didn't solve it.
This doesn't occur on my Verizon M8 which has almost the identical app's installed.

I have an international version M8, bluetooth skips randomly when streaming on car bluetooth and to my sony srs X9 speaker. It seems to happen only with continuos feeds. Mi cousin told me the problem could be that bt device is searching at all times for other devices but since there is no option to stop search i can't be sure.

I am also having problems I have a Scala headset on my crash helmet it doesn't matter if WiFi is on or not when streaming music, It seems to be better with the play music app the car app is annoying because it comes part of htc and I don't know how to disable it without rooting the phone. Has anyone come up with a solution yet? It sounds like an old LP playing with the stylus jumping like a good en.

O update and bluetooth audio

So I had been on the beta version since it was released and participated a few times in the thread here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-xl/how-to/android-o-beta-issues-t3609335 and others were having the same issue.
The issue is no song/artist information being displayed on my touchscreen stereo, and I cannot use the stereo to pause/skip to the next track (I have to do it through my phone). Ive tried a local audio player, Google Music, and Pandora all to no avail. The deck is a Pioneer double-din AVH-P8400BH.
In my daily car, my phone bluetooth name appears and I can change song ect thru the deck. It is not a touchscreen and it probably 10 years old.
Ive gone into the bluetooth settings and have tried changing the AVRCP from 1.4 to 1.6 (neither work), and audio codec from default to enable optional (neither worked).
Anything else I should try out?
TIA

I had the same issue, but a simple unpair and forget from both devices then repair fixed my problem

Ill have to give this a shot!
mine has awful streaming. It has so many skips...snags...audio blanks...whatever term you want to call it....its not "uninterrupted".
I was hoping google IMPROVED Bluetooth. I don't understand why they have this struggle to be honest. Its 2017....Bluetooth is not new technology.
Maybe they should stop expanding their department to provide data to the government to spy on private citizens using smart devices, and they would use those resources to fix bluetooth
Pioneer brand head units in particular I have seen Bluetooth streaming issues when paired to flagship model phones for years...even back as far as my LG G3. I got a Kenwood head unit instead, never had an issue.
As far a the Pixel XL and BT streaming...I have only had issues with dropouts zap sounds or pops, when i am out mowing my back property with my tractor...phone in pocket and BT headphones on. But my previous phones did this...most certainly due to the railroad nearby and high rise high voltage power lines and towers that are above me in that area.

Pioneer uses a cheaper bluetooth and never updates the firmware of the chips to fully support the available Bluetooth profiles even when they are developing their units and new profile updates are available. I have had a very long and annoying history with them to the point where I was in direct contact with their build team after all my complaining. That was back in 2012. Never used another of their products again. :good:
I have the same issue on my Chevy Colorado 2017. Everything works fine on Spotify on my Huawei Mate 9, and iPhone 7. It also worked fine on 7.1.2. Spotify works and music comes through but no info is displayed. I unpaired both things with no success. Frustraring.
I tried unpairing mine as well, no luck either

Have you tried unticking "media" in the profile hitting ok, going back in and ticking media again?

I have not. Ill give it a shot today.
No idea if this problem is related or not but might be worth a check if you have time. First time I put Oreo on my phone it was fine. Then I screwed something up and just ADB flashed the image again. Everything was fine until I tried bluetooth a few days later. It wouldn't connect until ticking that media box many times. Then I flashed the image again and it worked fine again.
So I just got the 8.0 OTA (not on beta). I see in the dev options that it shows what BT codec it is using.
I have noticed that only the option "Bluetooth AVRCP Version:" is the only value that changin it does it stick. The other setting appear to be on auto and revert to auto depending on what device u pair supports.
My first test on my Kenwood KDC-BT762HD it paired fine and it said it was using AptX. Streamed for a few min fine. Then after I got back in the car and it auto paired, music started skipping every several seconds. I turned radio off then on to repair it and it started streaming fine again....but was using SBC according to Dev options.
When I changed AVRCP version to 1.6.....it connects and uses AptX fine. However, the radio display no longer displays the BT media metadata(title/artist), but the controls on the radio still work. I change to AVRCP ver 1.4 and that restores metadata, but then it uses SBC again. (using ver 1.5 results in SBC and no metadata).
I don't really care about the song info not being displayed on my radio....but definitely seems to be something fishy with BT in this new update.
EDIT Update: so now I am noticing it auto re-connecting and using SBC all the time now. WOnt use aptX unless i delete the device and re-pair it. then it works for a few reconnects, but then drops to sbc cagin.
Thanks for posting, I won't be updating. The Bluetooth has never been right and now seems to have regressed.

i agree and although i dont get the proper song listing on my car stereo it seems everything else is better. on nougat my BT headset i use for work all day (moto buds) would often stop connecting properly and i would make a call and have to select "phone" then "headset" again to get audio back on headset and om Oreo it happens less frequently

If you switch to a rom that uses the CAF based bluetooth (all lineageos based ones should, crDroid does for sure as that is what I use) implementation this won't happen. Still haven't been able to track down exactly why, but for now I'm sticking with CAF based ROMs to avoid this.
Do any of you guys having this issue have an Android wear watch? I've had heaps of issues with Bluetooth streaming being all "jittery" and just skipping since the update. However, I found this is basically completely fixed when I turn my android wear (LG urbane) off, or at least the Bluetooth on it.
Tried all the developer options for BT but hasn't made a difference. At the moment, my solution is turning off BT on my watch when I'm listening to music. Bit crap but it works.
I have factory reset the watch and cleared BT cache on pixel.
Any other ideas?
Is anyone else still having problems with Bluetooth on Oreo? I was hoping the official 8.1 release would help me, but I'm seeing no change. I have a Kenwood BT952HD, and experience issues similar to what the OP describes. Audio is plays fine, no unreasonable stuttering. But I get no song info, and can't skip tracks. Also, the pairing isn't as automatic. Every time I turn on the car, I have to wake the phone up, and wait for the pairing to complete, which takes longer than usual.
I've tried playing with the AVRCP settings, along with clearing registrations at both ends and repairing, with no luck. Is anyone else still seeing similar issues?
8.1 working fine with my Kenwood BT762HD. I use PowerAmp v2 alpha build 704 app.
