Well, I don't know how to define this, so sorry if it's already answered.
Point is i know that all the gallery-kind apps normally are using a cached image preview when displaying pictures and then it loads the full res image a few milliseconds after the image is shown on screen. But I noticed a huge kind of redraw on the g3 stock gallery. It makes some type of 2 pass on every image, and not the full image at a time, seems that makes it by blocks or sectors.
Here's a video sample I've taken (sorry about quality, it's more noticeable than that).
http://youtu.be/H6QNzoOSjAs
The sample pictures doesn't have anything special. Just 10Mp shots, stock camera in auto, not Hdr, not edited, stored internal memory default location.
So, if anyone have any idea on this or if it's some way to solve or reduce that issue, wil be much appreciated.
Thanks so much.

Hi guys!
despite i use my HD for 9 months now, i still didn't find an application to make photos stored into my HD to be seen in hi resolution when they are attached to a contact or displayed by TFD3D within Photos and Videos tab
it's kinda of frustrating when you take nice pics with a dedicated camera with +5Mpx and then transfer them into HD
i know that there are some "manual" methods to make them displayed in hi-res but this is very dificult when you have more then 10 pics
so i am asking if you, smart guys here, can make such an application in order to be used by all of us with less programming skills
i am sorry if this app allready exists and i dind't find it out. if so, please point me to the right direction
thank you and best regards to all of you!
this is interesting - 105 users view this and no comment
if it is intersting, why no comment?
if it is not interesting, why +100 views?
It's interesting and I would like such an app as well - but it doesn't make much sense for me to comment because I have no idea on how to program it!
And I'm quite sure most of the 105 other users that have read this don't know either!
Tap on the low res "framed" image on the Photos and Videos tab to open the image in glorious high quality.
Slide left and right to scroll through the images in the album.
As for contacts, add the high quality image to the contact on the phone, not via Outlook, and it will show a high quality version on the phone.
Hope this helps and I haven't totally missed what you really wanted

nope
i know what you said and this is not how i wanted
i want to copy hi-res pictures from my cam into my SD card and them to use them to attach to contacts or to display on "Pictures and Videos" tab without any manual trick in order to be displayed in hi-res
if this is not possible "by default" because of some windows or htc bug, then i want an application that can be run and then all pics to be displayed in hi-res, no matter what i do with them
would that be possible?
It should be possibly, its just that no one has ever developed such a program and I can't see anyone doing this either
sorry, dont get that.
every picture, i transfer to my touch hd from an external source, are displayed in high resolution.
you sure, you dont need some glasses?
please add a screenshot to show what your problem is.
Hm, do you want a 1:1 pixel mapping? Then you will have to scroll around on your display to see the image.
Attention modern art:
Attached picture shows the relation of a 5Mpix image (2kx2.5k) to a wvga (480x800 black rectangle) screen.
Typically images will be downsampled to show 'all' information on a smaller resolution. Simple example: Having a 16x16 image and you want to show it on 8x8 screen you could take the average of 2x2 pixel blocks of the image which will give the pixel color in the 8x8 screen. This will introduce some bluriness.

smart line! did you came out with it all by yourself?
the low res pictures problem of HD when attached to contacts or displayed on pictures & videos tab is well known.
maybe i missed something and it is solved on newer roms but i count also on fallen spartan comments and it seems that it is not solved yet

Both the HD's I've got show high res contact images.
I put the images on the phone (created an Avatar folder to keep things neat) then from the contact picked the image.
From what I've read, that's the way to do it.
If you pick the images in outlook then sync, it creates a lower res image and uses that on the phone.
The rolordex screen in album is admitedly lower res than selecting the image and scrolling left and right, but then if it wasn't the rolordex would be a lot more cpu hungry, what with having to display the picture rotated slightly, and animate it as you flick through the album.
My phone recently started displaying everything with like a cartoon effect where you can see all the pixels being thick? & I copied some images to my pc & they display correctly so I decided to take a screenshot of a picture, please look, any help?
Thanks in advance
hi does it do it when your on the se home screens and app draw or just with photos youv taken ?
Looks weird. Like the screen is only able to display a very little amount of colors which results in heavy banding in gradients. Or heavily compressed images.
Like the previous poster said, are only the photos affected or everything like homescreens too? If only photos, you haven't changed to camera quality settings to the worst (though I heavily doubt it could be that bad even if you did)?
Ooops you said they look fine on the computer which is weird. Maybe your screen if faulty somehow. Don't know. But if only the screen is faulty it should not show on a screenshot. Very weird problem indeed.
Its just affecting when I take pictures, or even when I download random images the same problem occurs, so just viewing images really
So just viewing images, It may be your image viewer.
Is that the stock photo app or camera360?

It's the stock gallery app.
If it only affects images I would try and download another gallery application like Quickpic and see if the images display fine.
Maybe if you replaced the app with the one fro system dump?
Sent from my Xperia Play
I used quickpic & it works fine its just gallery & some games
Wow, I found out what it was.... It was chainfire 3d, I accidently selected the unroll to 16 bit & when I uninstalled it it worked fine!
Hello,
I've been doing some digging around and it seems this may be related to the JPEG compression, but how can this be removed? All the "mods" i've came across are discontinued. Please explain.
Anyways, if my camera moves the slightest while taking a picture, it becomes blurry. Videos seem fine, but pictures almost always appear blurry.
Thanks for your help. :highfive:

If the images are blurry only when phone is shaken then it has nothing to do with JPEG compression. AFAIK One X doesn't have optical image stabilization, it has a digital IS mode for video, but not sure if there is anything for still photos. There is nothing much you can do other than hold the phone still and try to shoot under well lit conditions (to reduce shutter time).
Are you using an AOSP custom ROM (i.e CM10, AOKP etc.) ?
Also, with the stock camera app, hold down the shoot button and it'll take a few photos in quick succession and allow you to choose the best one
I hope someone has the same issue or that this is a "normal" behavior of the HOX, but I don't think I ever noticed that until 2 days ago; anyway here's the problem.
When I take a picture with my camera, the picture looks great during review time (the option you set in settings 3 or 5 seconds). But when I open the same picture in gallery it seems that the quality is lost. I can notice that since as soon as I review the picture, I click on the lower left corner to open the picture again and I can see the difference between the "review picture" and the "saved picture". This is especially apparent in the front camera: when I take a picture of myself, my eyes look very sharp/cartoonish.
I have been running ARHD for a while since 14.2 and I am on 18.1 now. I installed lyapota mod pack which included camera jb mod extrim. I thought it was because of the mod so I did a clean installation of the rom with full wipe and the same problem was there.
Please advise.
Thanks to whoever will help!
May be a different viewer is used(triggered) to view the saved photos.
And thus thus could be a viewer app problem, not the photo quality itself.
Did you try to open these photos on your PC to see how are they looking there?

Yes I did, unfortunately it's the same problem.
Could it be that the preview is smaller than the actual image, and that the quality therefore looks better, because the preview is smaller..?
Try to post a picture you have taken, to show what you mean.
Kind Regards

Here is a picture showing both scenarios. I took a screenshot during the review (on the left) and then i opened the actual image. I put them side by side. Notice the color fading and the noise/loss of sharpness in the right picture. This is with normal day light, the effect gets worse when in low light.
Hi,
Bit of a small issue if you can call it that, just a tad annoying. DNG photos don't display poorly, but certainly not at their max quality. Other apps like lightroom do display the image in full quality/sharpness. However i cannot think of a good reason why G photos would not do that?
G photos recognises this as a RAW image, it just seems a tad dissapointing it isn't showing it in the full glory in my opinion, its locally stored as well obviously. Any ideas on this one? It seems though that capability isn't there.
Attached is a small section of the same photo opened up in the 2 different apps, quite a large difference in them.
