How do I use the ouya controller like a mouse? e.g. freely movable d-stick instead of having to scroll left or right through the clickable objects?
My controller works fine on CM11 using the trackpad in the middle as the mouse with the normal tap to click.

Id like this as well. My nVidia Shield has this and itd be much better than using the track pad on the controller.

really? any settings you changed? right now i am at vanilla cm11, i haven't changed any settings. do i need to disconnect keyboard for it to work? thanks
I only loaded the nightly and the controller overlay zip but nothing else. I just paired it and that was it.
Work fine here too
I think he's talking about using the analog stick, not the trackpad in the middle of the controller. I find the trackpad be very hard to use especially when trying to click and drag. Having the analog stick control the mouse would be great imo
Hi guys, I'm new to posting on here but have been following all over XDA for a while.
The track pad on the stock Ouya controller is very buggy when not running on the stock platform. If you connect the Ouya controller to another Bluetooth device, you will see for yourself the controls become erratic. I was using the track pad on the controller while running CM 11 on my Ouya but found it annoying at best. I have read all over, that if you connect most any 3rd party Bluetooth controller, they will work much better with the Ouya than then stock controller. Personally, I purchased a powered 7-port USB from Amazon, the Amazon basics brand. It has 2 USB 2.0 USB and 5 1.1 USB ports. I can plug in external hard drives, keyboards, USB mouse, and charge my phone while I'm at it. Bluetooth media remotes work well too, check amazon. But they are pricey and can run you more than a decent media keyboard.
As for successfully get the analog stick to control the arrow, it would be great. But I haven't seen it yet. Try a computer mouse. You have a powerful computer at your disposal.

Hey, well since I didnt see a topic about wired controllers yet, I thought I would share my findings yesterday.
I just got in my USB OTG Adapter so when I got home, I tried my Logitech F310 controller on my Stock T-Mobile rom. Works great! (X-Input mode) I was actually navigating the entire screen with my controller, using Circle button to exit out etc. Was very plug and play! Best part, Emulators worked 100% for the key bindings to it! So wanted to pass this info on to anyone else who was wondering about "Wired" option. Since I know we can do Wii controllers, PS3 ones and so. Cept.. I dont WANT to resync or change batteries out all the time.
Now I had seen this on the market too. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.poke64738.usbjoy&hl=en
Its about 5$ but not sure why I would use this if built in all works fine?
I did notice tho the USB port gets a lil warm after awhile of using it. (Since its powering yoru USB device it seems)
Now I did try the gamepad in minecraft. Some buttons work for opening menu, or "digging" however cant seem to make the movement work. So I may try to hit up Notch to allow keybinding options.
In my emulators tho, You set the D-Pad up for that, however a bonus.. analog stick works too for movement without setting anything up! Was playing Arcus Odyssey on Sega last night with the anlog stick heh.
Now I wonder.. if I use a mini usb "Y" adapter so I can have it plugged into the power source and my controller at the same time. That should work right? (This way I can keep it in my Dock, charging it while playing with the controller)
Sixaxis is better and cheaper.

But youd have to resync to PS3 or Tablet each time. Which is what I find annoying. Then till I get the 50$ Universal BT Onlive Controller (Which seems sweet and can dedicate it to android use) The wired option is nice. =)
So im curious, since the controller dosent really work smoothly with most side loaded games from the plays store. what is everyone using to play them (ex minecraft)? Are you using a app to smooth out the bumps or have you used a ps3 or wii controller and one of the many apps for that? i havent really found a good way yet what about you all?:fingers-crossed:

I am mostly removing apps which are not working good with controller but would like to know how to get them going.
but there are quite a few application which are working too good with the controller.
Well considering Ouya goes retail at the end of this month they really need to start working on the controller issues. And clean out a lot of those games, half of them don't work and the ones that do really really need work on their controller. Also a really nice feature would be if I could hold down the Ouya button to have the option to turn off the console like Xbox and Ps3, I hate getting up to turn it off.

you can connect the ps3 via blue tooth and use a ps3 controller app like (https://play.google.com/store/apps/...kaW9zLnNpeGF4aXNjb21wYXRpYmlsaXR5Y2hlY2tlciJd)
and that should work havn't tried it yet though
You would only need that app if the game doesn't natively support it.
If the developer has done a good job, then the PS3 and Xbox 360 controllers should work just fine.
For example, Bomb Squad natively "just works" with the standard Ouya controller, wireless and wired Xbox 360 controllers, and PS3 as well.
This weekend we played 6 player Bomb Squad (you can have up to EIGHT players on one TV!!!!!!!!!!!!!) with 2 Ouya controllers via BlueTooth, 2 off-brand USB wired Xbox 360 controllers, and 2 official MS wireless Xbox 360 controllers (connected via the Xbox 360 USB wireless adapter).
BTW, the adapter I am using for Xbox 360 wireless controllers is http://www.ebay.com/itm/370777929957?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
was like $11 and works great, also works on my PC.

Nope, you just plug in the ps3 controller via usb and push the reset button on the back and/or the ps3 button. Bluetooth will get messed up and refuse to turn on. Shut down the Ouya by holding down the power button, unplug the controller, start it back up and all your Ouya and PS3 controllers will connect just fine (if it doesn't work right away, go into the menu to pair controllers and just hold down the ps3 button instead of the ouya button and it will connect). I use 2 Ouya controllers and 2 PS3 controllers.
Hey All,
I've contacted OUYA support (and have a dialog going with them) about this, but thought I'd throw a line out here as well.
I've got a bluetooth Microsoft Entertainment Keyboard 7000 as well as a USB Logitech K400 keyboard.
Both work pretty well with the OUYA (though I don't use both simultaneously for obvious reasons).
One thing I've noticed, however, is that no matter what order I pair the OUYA controllers and keyboard (or connect the USB keyboard) in, the keyboard ends up being player 1 after a period of time.
Example:
Pair OUYA controller 1
Pair OUYA controller 2
Connect USB keyboard
After a day or so, and possibly a full power cycle of the device, the keyboard ends up being Player 1.
This doesn't pose an issue for the most part (the OUYA controllers display that they are players 2 and 3), but some games specifically rely on the device that is identified as Player 1 to actually be an OUYA controller in the game, and therefore I have to go through a whole rigamarole of unpairing all controllers / keyboards, disconnecting the USB keyboard, and doing a full shutdown of the device, then powering it back on and waiting for the pairing wizard to pop up so I can re-pair my controllers.
The real question here is, has anyone else experienced this, and if so have you found a viable workaround?
I'd prefer that the keyboard (whether USB or bluetooth) doesn't get detected as a controller period, but simply acts as an auxiliary means of input for fields where I need to type something in, move a mouse, etc.
Thanks!
pitcherj
Yes, I have exactly the same issue with a Logitech K400 as well. Very annoying, I haven't found a workaround yet.
I have an Ouya controller, a PS3 controller and the K400 in that order and after a while the K400 takes over controller position 1.
There needs to be some way of locking controller 1, or at least a way to quickly change controller positions from within the interface without needing to repair everything.
I had the exact same problem, after looking around for several days trying to find a way to get my controllers paired to slot 1&2. Installed the Blue Board app from the OUYA market.
I've been installed it on my phone, got to to to pair, and used it a couple of times. After that I noticed that my controllers properly paired to slot 1 & 2, and if I hook up my keyboard it properly goes into a different slot.
Blasted from my Samsung Galaxy SIII (CM10.1 Masta Mix).
Over here it is the same problem.
I use a Rapoo E2700 Keyboard with touchpad. It is connected via a seperate USB wireless-dongle.
[A little o.t. but i want to tell everybody thant the keyboard is working great! The Touchpad is super smooth and (unlike the Ouya Controller Touchpad) realy good to navigate a mouse cursor]
It would be nice if there was a menue where you could assign wich Device takes wich controller-slot. Working without a keypboard is a little annoying to me.
Same for all my keyboards, i think it might be intentional.
Everytime I plug in my keyboard dongle it causes the system to lock up and i have to restart, but if I boot with the keyboard hooked up its player 1. They need to get this fixed
Edit: It seems that removing my hub and pluging straight into the ouya works... but now I've no way to use xbox controllers...
After reading through this thread, I'm beginning to wonder if it has something to do with using keyboards meant for PC. The reason I say this is I have had my Motorola Bluetooth Keyboard made for the Xoom paired since the day i got it and it never took over any controller port, but 1 full power cycle with my Logitech USB keyboard and it took over 1st controller.
Does anyone else have a android BT keyboard they can try?
Xbox wireless dongle as well as a el'cheapo GE USB keyboard do the exact same thing... very very annoying

I think this is tied to USB taking priority over Bluetooth. Every USB HID I plug in ends up becoming player one.

Are you using a powered USB hub? My non powered USB hub does the same thing.
If a powered hub doesn't do it, it might have something to do with the power draw on that single port.

I think its more just because The USB connects on boot, while the bluetooth controllers and keyboards have to be turned on. Since the USB where already there they get the first spot and the rest get whats there when they connect.

Yea I think I need a powered hub. I left one at my moms house I'll probably go pick up today when I remember. (Wow I never thought that hub that came with Rock Band 1 on Xbox would ever be useful again lol)

What is the best way to get mouse control on a AFTV? A few apps need a mouse. My AFTV is wired, so the apps on my mobile don't seem to work. Thanks.
Logitech Wireless Touch Keyboard K400 avail on Amazon.
I considered the Logitech, but am now Thinking something smaller (mini keyboard)
I have a Logitech K700 for the GoogleTV. It works wonderfully, even in CWM.
I just bought a MeLe F10 Deluxe combo remote/keyboard/air-mouse and it's pretty fantastic. I had to do a bit of .kl editing to remap the home button to work, so root came in handy, but other than that the thing is great. I was able to program in all of the important buttons from my TV's IR remote so I was able to ditch that remote entirely. It even surprisingly works in CWM and Rbox's boot loader. Well worth $30.
I got an IPazzPort KP-810-16 5-in-1 (air mouse, back-lighted mini keyboard, learning IR remote). It works so well that I am considering buying their Bluetooth version (for my other FTV) so I don't have to plug a RF dongle in the USB of the FTV
How is the Mouse Controls with the MeLe F10 Deluxe Combo, is it done by moving the remote around in the air?
The IPazzPort KP-810 looks good and small. Is the keyboard not to small to use and hows the mouse control?

Yes, it's motion controlled like a wiimote. Right above the directional pad is the button for left mouse click. You click that button when you want to turn mouse mode on (which also turns the back button into right click), and then when you want to turn it off you can just press any of the directions on the D-pad. It works great if you only need a mouse here or there for navigating certain apps, but I wouldn't exactly try to play games with it. That said, my LG TV came with an airmouse remote when I bought it, and the airmouse on this is so much smoother and useable than that remote that it's not even funny. It works surprisingly well.
What about the Lenovo N5902, as anyone tried it with the Fire TV?
I have a mini bluetooth keyboard with touch screen and mouse button that I got from Amazon. It works well. It is a QQ-Tech model lS11-BT05. I first side loaded the settings app and used it to find the keyboard.
I've tried several wireless keyboard/pads (not all with the Fire TV). Though not perfect, the K400 is the best of the lot.

Keyboard is not too small, I think the size is good. I tried other wireless keyboard, either key presses are not registered or key presses got repeated. Those issues don't happen with the IPazzPort and that's why I said it is good. Air mouse control is good too, easy to use
Logitech k400 works great. Best choice imo.

Agreed, I have tried many also, k400 is the best, however, I also own
an old logitech revue, the keyboard for it is a k700 keyboard. It is the mac daddy of them all. it has directional and enter keys below the touchpad.
Here is a link to a picture of it. note the directional arrows below the touchpad. much nicer I am only posting this link so you can see a picture of what it is I'm refering to. not for sale or purchase reasons.
http://www.blinq.com/detail/electro...nkTYhtPQrEmVDb04zUKNKID-A-ARB5O5ugaApdX8P8HAQ
I retired my logitech revue after getting my aftv. Since the keyboard does not come with a usb dongle I just used a regular logitech usb nano receiver and used the software from logitech to link the two in windows. I then connected the nano reciever to the aftv where it is "The Best" keyboard in my opinion. If you don't have a dongle then just buy a logitech mouse at the store or order the nano receiver for $12 off amazon.
before you nay say me you better own own one. lol
I own several Logitech Revues. The keyboard is great. I thought it was IR, not Rf but I could be wrong. Good to know I will be able to reuse it. Do they sell them standalone and with bluetooth?

no bluetooth that i"m aware just wireless with usb nano receiver compatible. A logitech nano receiver can allow up to 8 logitech unity compatible devices. you just have to have your own and program it with the logitech unity software.

Using one of these . nice keyboard with touch panel. The media keys also work (most) which is nice as the play button is enter. I don't usually like touchpads but in thus situation it's fine. I also have a generic. Acer branded off of my revo tested and working.
The Sum vision is Samsung compatible for your info. P

And it works just like it would on a mini pc? Any downsides?
So what keyboard/mouse combo you have?
I am currently using the Sixaxis app with sony ps3 dualshock controller to control my fire tv - it works great - has support for home button, mouse mode and can be customized very well.
My only problem is that, the controller will not charge no matter what - from the fire tv directly, or when connected to pc, or from a wall charger.
The only way to charge it is to reset it (via the small pinhole in the back), or connect it to ps3 - this will make it lose the pairing with the fire tv and it will start charging again. I will have to set the bluetooth address again via the SixaxisPairTool from PC to get it to pair with the fire tv again.
My first question is - does the charging work for you after you have used the SixaxisPairTool from PC?
I also have a gamestop red samurai v2 controller. This pairs and works with the fire tv without any special app. However, misses mouse control.
I went through the threads here and understand that by creating a custom keyboard.kl file we can get the behavior we want for that controller. Can that idea be used to control mouse behavior as well? Any pointers would be welcome.
Thanks.

hah, so you're here as well... I also have/had ps3 controller paired with sixaxis, but I haven't used it for a while and ATM does need to be charged with actual PS3.
So, to answer your question PS3 controller did work(charged via phone charger and xbox one usb) for me after it was paired with sixaxis for long time until eventually I stopped using it and then ran out of juice. Now it needs PS3 to charge again (maybe once), before I can reuse wall charger. Problem is, I don't have PS3 on me.
yep. the ps3 controller with sixaxis app works so beautifully with both regular apps and side loaded apps (that require mouse), it is a shame that it cannot be charged.
i have it setup such that the right analog is mouse (always in mouse mode), left analog is rew/ff/prev/next, d-pad is d-pad, L1 and R1 are left and right mouse, etc.
the problem is the sixaxis tool works only with sony ps3 controller. is there any other app like this that will do the same with any controller? thanks.

well there are xbox 360 and xbox one controllers "how to" here, but I haven't tried them since both somewhat requires usb cable or dongle because they are not bluetooth based. and just repeating myself here, but ps3 controller does charge using other options and NOT ps3 only. BUT if it dies, then PS3 is required to recharge because you'll have to reset it.
ok. i am not sure why the charging does not work for me though. it won't even charge from PC once the SixAxisPairTool changes the mac address.
i saw the tincore app and i am planning to try it today with my gamestop controller.
How did you configure the sixaxis controller app? Whenever I try to connect the controller it never finds it even if i have the correct bluetooth address paired.
SUCCESS with tincore app. configuration is a bit difficult due to access via the fire tv remote and due to some menu items not showing up fully. however, once configured, the gamestop red samurai v2 remote works flawlessly - for necessary buttons as well as mouse.
i cannot get it to auto apply on restart and will investigate that later. for now, i am happy . thanks.

not sure what you are missing, but you can try this:
1. start the sixaxis server in fire tv and get the bluetooth address from bottom left
2. use the SixaxisPairTool in PC to set that address on the controller (for good measure you can reset the controller first by the pinhole in the back)
3. now pressing the glass PS button on controller should pair it
