I need to unlock my wife's S3 and I got the unlock code from AT&T but when I try to do it, it says unsuccessful. The phone is completely stock not even rooted. Can anyone help cause AT&T is useless?
Does the imei match the imei on the phone's printed label?
Yes it does
When you insert a non-ATT sim, you get the prompt to enter the unlock code? If you do and you enter the code provided by ATT based on the phone's imei, sounds like ATT may have given you the wrong code.

Yes then it gives me and sim unlock unsuccessful. I am getting sick and tired of sitting on hold with them
I'm not sure if the s3 gives you a limited number of tries to unlock it but I would not attempt more than 2 attempts each day.
I assume you confirmed the imei # with ATT? Is it possible the phone is hard-locked to ATT? Did ATT give you any other codes such as unfreeze codes, PUKs, etc.?
i know you said stock , unrooted. dont you have to be on 4.1.1 to unlock? prob. are, just asking.
err on the side of kindness
What ROM is on your phone? If it is 4.1.1 or 4.1.2, you could try using the free unlock method.
I'm having the same problem here. Received a code from AT&T on Oct 26th and they're still trying to figure out why it doesn't work. Bought the locked phone at BestBuy and never touched it until I tried to use the code they gave me.

If you were on 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 and the code didn't work, you could revert back to stock 4.1.1 and unlock the phone for free. Since you're on 4.3, you can only unlock the phone with an unlock code. Seems strange that the unlock code doesn't work. Did you confirm you phone imei and the imei you submitted to ATT?

Yes, I checked everything. Today I spent almost an hour on the phone with them trying to figure out the problem. They even called Samsung and they didn't know what was wrong either.

I read that the phone displays a message when that happens, and none has been presented so far... It always asks me for the network unlock code.
Problem solved
To whoever is going through the same trouble. This is not the "unlock it for free" method, for you will need to insert the unlock code
For Samsung Galaxy S3, S4 and Note 2. Device must be updated to the latest firmware.
Phone MUST prompt for the code. This is the "release method" on the phone(s).
a. Go to the Dial pad and dial *#197328640#
b. Click on number [1] UMTS > [1] Debugging screen > [8] Phone Control > [6] NETWORK LOCK
c. You will see 3 options. Click on number [1] Perso Sha256 INFO, the screen will change slightly
e. Hit the MENU button then when the menu pops up carefully hit BACK to return to the previous screen
f. Click on number [2] Perso Sha256 ON, the screen will change again to a one line message
g. Restart the phone on the screen by holding the power button and click RESTART
h. When the phone prompts for the unlock code simply enter the unlock code

I have a SaskTel Samsung Galaxy S3 (SGH-I747M, baseband version I747MVLLE8) that is locked, and I want to unlock it. But when I insert a foreign SIM (from AT&T) I get no prompt for an unlock code. Instead it just says "No SIM card. Emergency calls only." I've contacted several of the online unlock code suppliers and they say without this prompt I can't unlock the phone. I've also tried to enter variations of the *7465625* code, but they do nothing at all. SaskTel says they don't provide unlock code. This despite the fact that I purchased the phone outright, and have no contract with them. Am I totally hooped, or is there some way I can get this phone unlocked?

Possible, but I doubt it, since it works just fine in another phone. In any case I don't have another one to try.

That and probably every variation of it I can think of! I am wondering though, is this code internal only to the phone, or does it go to the cellular network? When I do type it, it does nothing, though if I send it I get an "Invalid USSD" message returned from the network.

this code doesn't work on the LTE variants of the SGS3. most of the multi-stage codes (####*###) don't work, you just end up with an error.
Correct as stated. Additionally, if you have a foreign micro sim, and you are not on a stock ROM, the unlock screen prompt will not show. I was running AOKP, and could not get the prompt to show, so I flashed back to stock, unlocked phone, then flashed back to AOKP, bc TW sucks!

i have a i747M and unlocked it with the at&t micro sim, so i know it works,
did u cut ur at&t sim down to size ? maybe u did it wrong and it wont recognize, or ur sim slot is ****ed up ....
ur best bet right now is to try another micro sim
Ok, I've now got my phone rooted. Can someone suggest how I can get the ROM set so that it will allow me to enter the unlock code when I insert a foreign SIM.
There's a 3rd potential method that hasn't been mentioned on here that we see working for most Samsung handsets. In fact, for some Samsung handsets (usually older ones) it is the only unlocking method that will work.
It is:
1. Turn on the phone with a non accepted or accepted SIM card inserted
2. Type #0111*CODE# replacing CODE with your network unlock code
However, if your service provider lock is active, then you'll need to use the code #0133*CODE# instead.
All unlocking methods (once you have the unlock code) are available here: http://www.mobileunlocked.co.uk/samsung-instructions.asp
Hope that helps.
Did you manage to unlock?
I'm facing the exact same issue. My S3 doesn't show the network unlock prompt when I insert a foreign SIM. Mine is locked to AT&T. It's also SGH-I747 model
You could try and unlock your phone as per this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2033225
Then try the SIM card after the phone is unlocked.
Oh, I believe this only works on Stock ROMS.

Follow the link Tybalt quoted, you will unlock your phone and the sim won't ask for an unlock code because well, it's unlocked.... Follow the instructions, you need to be on JB 4.11 for this to work, some have had success on custom roms but not many....you don't need to root to do this and make sure when you see the success code you have 40 at the end not 30... i did this a couple times... 30 I think basically means you have locked it again ... and in the instructions when it says wait 30 or 60 seconds... you really do have to wait.. don't be impatient....it's a huge thread with many many successes.....
Samsung Galaxy S3
I have the same issue but I have a sgh-i747 Samsung galaxy S3 i brought it to koodo and was told it was a compatible phone with the company when unlocked. The problem/question i have is When i insert my new simcard the screen will not display any prompt to input a unlock code. It just says emergency calls only or unregistered sim. I inserted my sim card into another s3 same model, software versions, different provider, and the phone asked for the unlock code right when powered on. So i tried and flashed a new firmware but its doing the same thing.
I called koodo and they gave me instructions to create a new apn of Koodo SP it did not make my phone prompt me for an unlock code.
When i send an email to any website about unlocking my phone they advice me not to purchase there product if my phones not prompting me for a unlock code that will it more then likely not work.
I've seen methods online of using these to input an unlock code "#0111*UNLOCKCODE#" or "#7465625*638*UNLOCKCODE#" but when i tell the unlock website this information this still tell me not to purchase there product and i mean many numerous websites. I do not want to buy an unlock code only to try to input it with these methods and have it not work. Which i highly dought it would because the normal 7465625 command doesnt work either.
I also tried this factory unlock and it did nothing
PLEASE HELP!?!?

Thank you so much for this!
Whenever I typed any variation of the #7465625 code I would get the "emergency calls only" message. #0111*CODE# did the trick!
The provider didn't even know this, the best they could come up with after numerous calls to their hotline is that the phone was broken and/or that the SIM card was badly inserted, thus I should mail them the phone to the other side of the country for unlocking. Would they even have known how to do it over there?
My grandma says thanks!
Because of the recent news of making it illegal to unlock phones I tried to use the *#simlock# code to check to see if my phone (T999) was unlocked. I keep getting the "Connection problem or invalid MMI code" so I tried a bunch of other codes which also didn't work. Is this because I'm running 4.2.1 (AOSP)? I remember when I had 4.0.4 USSD codes worked normally.

you need to be stock to unlock your phone, the codes dont work on aosp.
I did the sim unlock on my phone a few months ago when it was just stock rooted, I'm not entirely sure if it worked then. Would that still apply now and is the only way to check is with a different carrier's sim?

from what i understand, yes. when you unlock the sim there is nothing that says "it's unlocked!" so yeah you have to use an AT&T sim and see if you can make a call
and it sticks after a flash, it's not rom dependent, you just have to be stock to unlock it, then you can flash whatever you want
I am selling my SGH-i317, but am unable to SIM unlock the phone with the unlock code that AT&T provided for the IMEI.
When pop in a T-Mobile SIM, the phone asks me for an unlock code. But it refuses to accept the code with message: "Network unlock request unsuccessful".
What could be causing this?
Here's a history of my phone:
1. I have used it with a custom ROM, so the KNOX counter is tripped.
2. I was on a rooted UCUBMK6 ROM with TWRP recovery.
3. I used Triangle Away and unrooted.
4. I then used Odin to flash back to UCALJ2 with Stock Recovery (unrooted), using this tar file: KIES_HOME_I317UCALJ2_I317ATTALJ2_215287_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5
5. This gave me stock recovery and stock ROM. KNOX still tripped, custom ROM counter=1
6. I then used Odin to flash the UCUCNE5-Stock-No recovery. I assumed that the stock recovery from the UCALJ2 ROM would work as a "match" (?).
7. Device now reports baseband version I317UCUCNE5, build number KOT49H.I317UCUCNE5. Kernel 3.0.31-1728680. KNOX still tripped, Custom ROM counter=1.
But the unlock is a no-go. What gives??

No..thanks for the tip. My menu doesn't show that option, probably removed in later ROM versions. But I found this YouTube video that suggests flashing back to an older modem, then following that method, then flashing back. Worth a try...will give that a go.

It was probably mine. I had the same issue and I got my code from cellunlocker.net.
I was on SlimRom and it was not working. I finally went back to the official rom for one final try and it worked.
This is what I did. I'm not sure if just trying the unlock code would've worked but I did follow these steps (it's a bit weird since you don't actually change anything, maybe it forces the phone to refresh something.)
Just make sure you are on official ROM or it won't work (I tried only the code with the SlimROM and it did not work).
After unlocking I went back to SlimRom and then CM and it was always unlocked.
1. Make sure that the phone PROMPTS for the code with a NON accepted sim card and that your IMEI is correct by dialing *#06#
a. Go to the Dial pad and dial *#197328640#
b. Please click on number [1] UMTS > [1] Debugging screen > [8] Phone Control > [6] NETWORK LOCK
c. You will see 3 options
d. Please click on number [1] Perso Sha256 INFO, the screen will change slightly
e. Please hit the MENU button then when the menu pops up please carefully hit BACK to return to the previous screen
f. Next Please click on number [2] Perso Sha256 ON, the screen will change again to a one line message
g. Restart the phone on the screen by holding the power button and click RESTART
h. When the phone prompts for the unlock code simply enter the unlock code provided to you

FYI- my situation (maybe it'll help others): I bought a T-Mobile prepaid SIM card for my spare GS3 just to see if it would work. I contacted AT&T and they provided me a SIM unlock code (took about 2 days). However, it did not work! 5 days later, and they still haven't figured it out! I decided to take matters into my own hands. After many many hours of research and trying all sorts of methods I believe whats happening its that people are trying the dial pad method and setting their Perso Sha256 to "OFF". If you've done that then unlock codes will not register correctly... So get and unlock code, then set it back to ON following the steps above. Hopefully that helps others..

Great to hear!
Hello,
I've had a long saga of failures trying to unlock my T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S III (aka sgh-t999). Firstly I started by trying to convince T-Mobile to give me the code but they gave be the bureaucratic cold shoulder for a year. After threatening to cancel they finally produced an incorrect SIM unlock code for me from Samsung. I tried it and it failed.
I then took my phone to one of those shady SIM unlock places in London and paid them to do it. After a day of waiting they sent me an email of the same, incorrect SIM unlock code which again failed to work.
I decided to try a common method I found all over tutorials that works as follows.
Go to the dialer
*#197328640#
[1] UMTS
[1] DEBUG SCREEN
[8] PHONE CONTROL
[6] NETWORK LOCK
[3] PERSO SHA256 OFF
Wait 30 seconds then press Menu and back
[4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ
Wait 60 seconds then reboot
Sadly no matter what I do that last menu option simply does not exist on my phone.
This fails on Android 4.1.2 which was on my phone when I started so I recently got a stock 4.1.1 ROM which the tutorials said was necessary. So I rooted my phone, installed ClockworkMod recovery so now when I go into recovery mode I get that CWM. I then used that to install a pre-rooted 4.1.1 build and tried to do the above SIM unlock method and it sadly it failed again in the exact same way. Option 4, NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ does not exist.
Does anyone know of anything I can do to SIM unlock my phone? Anyone know of any specific links to firmware and or OS ROM images that they know installs an OS that this works on? Are there apps one can run as root that will unlock? Remember I can't use anything that goes through Samsung because it ends up being incorrect.
Thanks for the help.
-mike
Your rom version has nothing to do with it. Your modem must be 4.1.1, but it wont work if youve ever updated to 4.3.
The code you got is not wrong. Especially if you got the same one from two sources. Its based on your imei so every decice has its own unique unlock code.
There's a thread in AT&T forums where someone posted a way to get it to work if having problems. Its at the end of an unlock thread in the General section I think. See if you can find and try that.
Hope it helps.

Hi All,
Please help.
Goal:
- unlock N910P for domestic US (I have MSL code from Sprint)
- do not want to root
Details:
- account and phone is paid
- Sprint gave me MSL saying it is my unlock code
- 5.1.1
- has been reset to factory and cleared cache
- I watched a few videos saying that I need to put a different carrier sim in and it will prompt for the MSL code to unlock
- I have tired 4 sim from T-Mobile and AT&T, 2 are working sim from working phone... none will prompt for code
- I tried ##3282# which get me to manual settings but I am not sure if I should mess with it
- invalid sim for T-Mobile and AT&T but works fine for Sprint
- I read that it may work with Kit Kat but I cannot downgrade without root
Thank you all in advance.
Please let us not get into the debate of carriers and GSM/CDMA. I just need help with the unlock portion. Thank you again. :highfive:

You couldnt downgrade to kitkat even if you were rooted. Youre on a locked bootloader.
yup, I concluded that after a few hours of testing... tried several rev of Odin3 and several OEM ROM... all fail to auth... was hoping as last option that root will work but didn't plan for that route...
Are there any options to get the prompt for domestic SIM/carrier unlock? Whether auto or manually?

I'm sure there's some way to use your msl to unlock, but I don't know how.
But if you give up, I used www.idoneapps.com
I used him and worked flawless. They have good support too.
I think you need to flash pc1 firmware or below to unlock but after you unlock you can flash anything else. As long as you don't disturb your efs partition you'll be unlocked. (But this requires root)
Hope you figure it out without having to pay, but if not, they're great.

Unless ... for some weird aşş reason it doesn't work with your phone ? Then just look up on Google a secret dial code to force the network unlock code input for whatever phone you have
