RUU failed, now stuck in fastboot. - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys
I followed a guide that would make me restore my HTC M8 to stock but the RUU failed and now my phone keeps rebooting in fastboot.
It says "Tampered" "Relocked" and S-On.
Not sure how to proceed as I don't want to brick it more.
Can someone please suggest what to do?
Should I attempt the RUU again?

did you flash the RUU twice?

Any error code given when the RUU failed? As long as its the right RUU for your version (or you have s-off) there shouldn't be a reason for it not to work, so try again as mentioned above. Or try to download again, as maybe the file was corrupted.

[Q] [Help!] Bricked One X

I wanted to flash LeeDroid's rom. After I flashed the boot image I realized that I haven't put the rom into the root of the phone's storage! silly me. I tried rebooting the system but it won't boot. Then I tried the unbrick methods on the forum but found no luck. At last I tried relocking it and restore it using RUU but it still won't work! It is saying that I got the wrong version of RUU, but where can i find the RUU for 1.28? Hope someone can help!!

What country are you in, which network are you on and did you buy your phone sim free?
If you go into fastboot mode and then boot into CWM using the command:
fastboot boot <CWM img file>.img
You'll then be able to use adb to push the rom zip onto your device which you can then flash with CWM.
If the RUU says you have the wrong version you probably have the RUU for another region/carrier.
It's pretty much impossible to permanently brick the one x (without s-off) so don't worry, you'll get it working eventually.
Thanks man. I am in Hong Kong and i am pretty sure it is sim free. after I tried running the RUU i have relocked the bootloader. for some reason I can't even get into recovery right now! When I try the RUU it saids the image version is 1.28.708.10 and I get error140

You can't install the 1.26 RUU after you've updated hboot with the 1.28 OTA.
Try installing this RUU: http://hoxroms.serveftp.com/RUU_END...Radio_1.1204.103.14_release_257077_signed.exe, it's the same region but a newer version.
Flash the stock 1.28 recovery image and relock your bootloader before trying to install the RUU.
The 1.28 recovery image can be found here: http://hoxroms.serveftp.com/Asia_1.28_RUU/recovery_signed.img

Thanks so much!!
but i have already relocked the bootloader without flashing the recovery image ... would that make a difference?
If the RUU runs successfully then don't worry about it, if it throws another error then flash the stock recovery and try again.

Directions for flashing back to a stock ROM?

Hi,
International one x. Want to flash back to Stock ROM. I downloaded one from file factory. The process fails.
I first flashed a stock recovery successfully.
Then I relocked the bootloader.
Then I put the phone into fastboot usb mode and double-clicked the RUU.exe
Why won't this work? It appears to get halfway and then says that the process failed. Do I have the wrong ROM? This is a carrier unlocked phone. I got the phone in Taiwan, and I thought that RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_hTC_Asia_TW_1.29.709.7_Radio_1.1204.104.exe would be the one to flash.
Help is appreciated! Thanks!
What is the error no. ?
Check your actual software version no.

error no 155
version-main: 1.29.709.12
Any ideas? Thanks
Error 155 usually because of unlocked bootloader but you did relocked the bootloader, right ? Try also flash the stock boot.img whether it helps but I've read somewhere, 1.29.709.12 OTA update changed the hboot and you need to have a 1.29.709.12 RUU.

Yes, my screen says "locked" right in the bootloader. Will try to flash the stock boot.img (need to find it first). Thanks, will give it a shot.
If you can read chinese, google for PJ46IMG_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_hTC_Asia_TW_1.29.709.12
the RUU already out.

Thank you. Unfortunately, I can't read these sites well enough. I used Google translate. It appears that you have to register, which I did, and then reply in the thread. But in order to reply, you have to verify your mailbox, and the email never did come. Darn. This would be the easiest way I suppose.
Ah....email was marked as spam, haha.
Can you upload that RUU somewhere if you got it?

I need this verison too. Has anyone been able to get a ROM.zip or an RUU for this version?

RUU recovery failure

I have installed CyanogenMod10 and want to return to the the original factory image. All my attempts have failed.
I receive the mesage "Hboot Version is older!" then " Update Fail!"
I have extracted the RUU ROM.zip file and tried to upload manually but all my attempts fails.
Any help how to proceed will be appreciated

That is possile if the RUU is older than the one currently on your phone. If this is not the case, try to flash the RUU via the program and from hboot.

Obviously , since I have Cyanogenmod 10 installed the RUU version is older. CM10 is somehow preventing the RUU to execute correctly,
I have tried to run the RUU with Hboot but it didn't recognized the phone.
your backup is older than the bootloader version now you have .

Sorry I will be clearer. The ruu has two thing before start. It evaluates your cid and hboot version. If you had (my example here) a 2.22 stock and you want to flash the ruu of the 2.02 version it will not work because the hboot in your phone is newer. This is a security measurement for you not to be able to downgrade your os.
Even more, ruu needs stock recovery, stock kernel, and the phone to be either "locked" or "relocked". And more, if you has custom is on the phone that time, the ruu will only work from fastboot usb mode.
It is a joke tough that in these phones unlock and custom os is easily achivable, while going back to stock is like a pain in the ass.

[Q] HTC One X Hboot bricked, help please!

Please help me, I have misread that Maximus 8.0 is for all CID, hence I have did all the step to flash hboot as well, so I did "fastboot flash zip firmware.zip" and the cmd hang in the middle of sending the firmware.zip.
Then I reboot the phone and now the hboot is with Hboot security warning and my hboot remaind at 0.96 version.
Please help me how to return everything back to unlock states with functional recovery, because I cant even get to recovery right now. Please hlpe me with guides because really do not want to mess it up again.
Thank you all in advance! my CID is 044

I am thinking will running RUU will solve this problem since my Hboot is in early version?
Dude you're not bricked, re-unlock your bootloader with 'fastboot flash unlocktoken unlock_code.bin'
then restore clockworkmod backup/flash ROM
OMG, it works! Seriously thank you a lot!!
Use the latest clockworkmod recovery from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1594819
this way you will be able to mount the usb storage in cwm and to copy a different custom firmware.
Then you can flash a different custom firmware, i guess it should work.
Yes, I unlock my bootloader again and reflash the recovery. Lucky is I have all the files I need in phone storage, so after nandroid restore and now phone function as usual.
Seriously thank you guys for helping out

Help Needed Stuck

I was trying to return to stock and I was following this guide on my Verizon HTC one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2475216
Everything was going good, Until I flashed the Stock RUU using this command
Fastboot flash zip Rom.zip
As it states in the step by step it will fail just try again that is normal. Well It failed again and I thought that meant go on to the next steps.
SO now I have The Phone locked, S-ON and I cant get it to get past the Fastboot screen.
I tried send a recovery.img to the phone but it wont obviously go.
Man I Need help, ANYONE???
I am thinking I need a boot.img file maybe??
Solved. Thread can be closed or removed.
How did you solve it? I was gonna suggest maybe try running rumrunner again to re-achieve s-off and then just flash a ruu

I had to download an encrypted ruu cause when I would run the above steps with an decrypted ruu it would fail at the signature. I was sweating it big time.
