Fused Location eating up battey - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

There's something running in the background called Fused Location that is eating up a lot of battery and even though I used Google I still couldn't quite understand how to disable it or what it is exactly. Ive had the phone for quite some time but never saw it before.
Any info? Thanks

Have you tried a reboot ? I believe fused location has to do with GPS...
Sent from my SM-P600 using XDA Premium HD app

My GPS is turned off and yes I've tried rebooting to no avail.

I didn't find a fix... But I didn't read everything either.
Google "fused location android". Found quite a few things about it. ?

Is this google maps causing all this battery drain?

My phone went from 91% to 31% over the night while I slept. I looked into better battery stats to see what the cause was and this is what I saw.
What can I do to remedy this issue?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
You could try toggling your location services on and off in addition to clearing the data and cache in that specific app (settings > apps > all, etc) and rebooting. Something is triggering that. Are you stick/rooted?
I'm on the CM 10.1 nightly from Feb 13. Using Kt747 kernel.
Do I clear the cache from the maps application?

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
Yes, I would clear the maps cache. Something is using location/GPS but it's hard to tell you which app is turning on those tools, so it could be maps. Or turn off all location based services so no apps have access to those tools. Another option is uninstalling app by app to see which one is the culprit or continue monitoring the battery till something more definitive pops up.
I'll try that out. It also looks like the ebay app has been wake lock too. I haven't even been in that app in a long time and for some reason it's waked 500 times

Just freeze maps using titanium.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
You don't have to freeze it:

Have you uninstalled and reinstalled the App? Cleared app data? Multiple things you can do.
Yeah. Ive tried both! Im ablut to factory reset
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
Seems like a Facebook issue.... They've been pushing updates thru network and not the store.... Which is against TOS, so it could most likely be on the apps end.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
It is a Facebook issue that many others, including myself, have experienced as well.

Yeah. I tried a factory reset. Still not working. No idea cause it works fine on my girlfriends lg running stock android 2.3.7

Just curious, who here installed the app from the PlayStore?
Do we get the copy on original release date or do we get early tracks?

How did you even get it to work? Mine just stays stuck at the opening screen and nothing happens. It used to have a bunch of demos and stuff. Now, nothing.

This app is another representation on how the man will control you. This app does nothing but harvest your data, sell it to the appropriate entities and not allow you to play how you want. The music industry is trying to pull a quick one on you. Extract the APK if you dont believe me. I personally will stick to other ways to get my music free
We did just get a whole album for free.......right?

I see you saying this, but what data does it harvest. What are you seeing in the decompile app that proves this? I don't even have the app in just curious why your making these claims and very broad claims too.

It doesnt even take that level of investigation. It's just common sense
THIS APPLICATION HAS ACCESS TO THE FOLLOWING:
YOUR LOCATION
APPROXIMATE LOCATION (NETWORK-BASED)
Allows the app to get your approximate location. This location is derived by location services using network location sources such as cell towers and Wi-Fi. These location services must be turned on and available to your device for the app to use them. Apps may use this to determine approximately where you are.
PRECISE LOCATION (GPS AND NETWORK-BASED)
Allows the app to get your precise location using the Global Positioning System (GPS) or network location sources such as cell towers and Wi-Fi. These location services must be turned on and available to your device for the app to use them. Apps may use this to determine where you are, and may consume additional battery power.
NETWORK COMMUNICATION
FULL NETWORK ACCESS
Allows the app to create network sockets and use custom network protocols. The browser and other applications provide means to send data to the internet, so this permission is not required to send data to the internet.
PHONE CALLS
READ PHONE STATUS AND IDENTITY
Allows the app to access the phone features of the device. This permission allows the app to determine the phone number and device IDs, whether a call is active, and the remote number connected by a call.
STORAGE
MODIFY OR DELETE THE CONTENTS OF YOUR USB STORAGE
Allows the app to write to the USB storage.
YOUR APPLICATIONS INFORMATION
RETRIEVE RUNNING APPS
Allows the app to retrieve information about currently and recently running tasks. This may allow the app to discover information about which applications are used on the device.

Xda premium the most buggy app on my phone

Does anyone else have this problem? It only loads half the time I've been through multiple reinstalls on multiple different roms and it's still super unreliable.... I think it's ironic that the xda premium app is so buggy

Haha this is funny because I had to log on the computer to reply because my app won't load right now. It seems to work a little better when I'm not connected to a wifi network, though not by much (bad network connection isn't the cause).
Mine stalls and won't load half of the time too. I usually just hit the back button, then re-open the app and it loads on the second try. Slightly annoying but still faster than using the browser.

I notified the mods several times last week. Everytime I turned xda on it would say connecting to servers for 15 minutes.

+1 this. Idk what the deal is. Half the time it won't even load period if I am connected to any WIFI source. I get a connection fail. Even when I use the data network it hangs half the time. When I do finally get it to where I can actually reply to something the message only posts 1/3 of the time. Otherwise I get a "you do not have permission..." blah blah blah. I don't even receive notifications anymore. The only way I know if someone responds to anything is when I get an email notification in Gmail. Idk what happened to this app. It used to be awesome.
I use wi-fi 90% of the time and don't have trouble loading any other app.

I noticed the same thing on tapatalk at times when accessing the xda site. From what I can tell it mostly has to be on xda end as I have no problem accessing other forums that I am a part of.

It's across the board. My kindle fire, rezound and gtablet all have the same issues with xda app. I have gotten so used to loading and reloading I barely notice it now. Minor annoyances!

Same
I'm experiencing the same. Doesn't load on first try, slow on second, a little better on wifi. The irony...
It's crazy that one of the top downloaded paid apps is this unstable... It's like bitstrips when it first came out but worse.... Because I paid for it

Xda app not working?

Anyone else having connectivity issues with the XDA forum app or Tapatalk?
XDA works fine through a browser. But Tapatalk and XDA apps take forever, if at all, to load. I usually get a failed to connect message.
Doesn't matter if I'm on wifi or data.
Yes and it's only just recently it's been happening for a few days but I thought it might be a server issue so I'm only just now looking for a real solution. Clearing cache and dalvik in recovery seems to fix it temporarily. For anyone who hasn't experienced it: hitting reload or starting app will give a "unable to connect to forum. Please contact your administrator if this problem persists." This occurs on both lte and Wi-Fi. Also it may be related: I'm unable to watch videos on chrome browser or javelin browser. It's really strange. Setup: HTC m8 rooted a-on tmobile arhd 7 and elex 17. Most things stock with kernel.

Yup I always get an xda app error message. Annoying.
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
It's happening on my son's sgs3 as well. Both with XDA APP and Tapatalk. So it's on XDA's end.
Here is something weird. Installed ad-away and it's working 95% better. Idk

Yeah the xda app is crap, half of the time I get the connection error on a perfectly stable connection, and mostly it won't load all threads etc...
:/
I've got adaway too.
Xda App is actually the worst app known to human and our alien brothers.
It's been fine for a while. I installed adaway again but not sure if it's that our maybe they just corrected a forum thing. Using tapatalk btw.

I gave up on the XDA app a long time ago, it's absolutely terrible and beggars belief that for a forum with so many skilled people on, whoever is behind this app needs to put some serious effort into improving it.
Stick to the Tapatalk app, not perfect much better than the XDA one.
