No. It needs to be SIM unlocked, paid off & not blacklisted. I bought one off of Craigslist. Had the guy meet me at a metro store to verify that it was all good. Fortunately, all went well. It'll cost you $10 for the micro sim card + $15 for the "ESN" change on your account.
It doesn't need to be unlocked metropcs is a T-Mobile mvno they run on the same towers but if you want to unlock it nothing to lose just request for an unlock code but if you haven't bought it yet take other guys advice if buying on Craigslist or if buying on eBay ask for the imei and check the status through T-Mobile
I'm just stating what Metro PCS Corporate told me directly. ALL phones (Including ANY T-Mobile phones) MUST be unlocked. Without exception. Their words - not mine. Was I surprised? Oh yes! I too thought since T-Mobile & Metro PCS are essentially one & the same that one wouldn't need it to be unlocked. NOT so. Don't take my word for it - call their TOLL FREE 888-863-8768 number & ask 'em. They'll confirm what I've said here.

I personally used my old droid dna on Metro pcs. It wasn't sim unlocked, just put a Metro sim in. Granted since I hadn't changed anything else it only got 3g data. But since it is T-Mobile M8 on Metro pcs you should have no issues.
Luck favors you indeed. Go here: https://www.metropcs.com/content/metro/en/desktop/metro/offers/bring-your-own-phone
Their own website says it MUST be unlocked.

I got an EVO 4G at Google I/O, and since I live in India, didn't see much of a point in getting it activated.
SO, Now that a month is over, and the free service is over, I want to explore my options and see if I can activate this phone on an Indian CDMA Network (like Reliance or TATA).
I know the phone is physically compatible, as it was roaming (both voice, and data) on these two networks. I just want to figure out how it can be unlocked, and then activated with either of these networks. I have seen a Blackberry from Verizon activated with Reliance earlier, so am wondering if the same is possible with the EVO.
we can use verizon's network here by updating the PRL to one of theirs... if the fq is the same, maybe you could do something similar with your area's PRL files?
For flashing to other networks PPC Geeks and Howard Forums are the best spot to look. It's a pretty simple process (from what I understand of Android). By the way in the future refer to this pic when starting threads like this:

HTC EVO 4g Unlocked! (on Reliance now)
I was able to unlock HTC EVO 4g (Sprint) and made it work with Reliance CDMA. It was done with a help of a professional who charged me nominally for his service. I strongly suggest you get it done thro a knowledgeable person. For your reference, you could contact this guy who helped me at happydelhi at the rate gmail dot com.

I want to get a one x so I am wondering if any of you guys got the one x on pay as you go or sim free and what price? I was going to get it from three but I didn't want to pay the £15 pay as you go sim as I am on a monthly contract with them.
Available here for £430 on T-mobile PAYG from mobiles phone direct, but I believe all phones are actually sim free and unbranded.
Plus £5 quidco available, making it £425.

I saw that but I'm not sure about the site. Mixed reviews.
I got a phone from them a while ago, seemed OK to me...think it's owned by CPW

But some people said they won't locked.

They just emailed me back saying it will come branded
Pretty sure it was Dial-A-Phone I used last time and as they're CPW it was a SIM-free handset with the SIM card thrown in
It may be

No it cannot be. There is no sim slot at all. You may be able to put it on straight talk or pageplus, but I have no idea if you could put it on any other cdma network. To my knowledge most other countries use gsm over cdma.
The only one I know that does allow sprint devices, is ting

Freedom pop is garbage. It's all voip. Even with strong 4g, the call quality is terrible, and it all barely works. Ting is the only one that's a normal service.

I agree, but some people don't talk on the phone much... Just throwing it out there, especially because they are the only ones to have a completely free plan.

True. But ting scales depending on your usage. Although I wish it was unlimited everything.. Just can't afford a new $300 unlocked phone to go to another company. So stuck with ting

Same here, but right now I'm alright with that... Especially if we're getting official 4.4.4 soon.

I bought my LS970 from a guy, I didn't ask many questions. Shortly after I got it, I flashed it to PagePlus and had it activated. I dropped it and the touch screen stopped working. So I let the service go. I just got it fixed again and I tried to re activate it back with PP, but they said my phone is no longer in service with them and they can't reactivate it because it's not a Verizon phone.
I would like to get it activated on another pre paid plan, but I'm not having any luck finding one that works. ANY help at all would be appreciated. Another thing, I checked the MEID and I got this back.

I'm just guessing, but I think I'm going to have to pay someone to unlock my phone from Sprint so I can use it on Net10 or whatever. I could be wrong, but does that seem like that's what I have to do?

Sounds like it may need to be flashed. Carrier unlocks usually apply to SIM (GSM) devices. If you want to use a CDMA device on another carrier you need to flash it. Unfortunately it looks like a lot of carriers communicate now than before and someone seems to have blocked your IMEI and as far as I know, changing it is against some laws, depending on your location.

I flashed it to PagePlus and was using it on that carrier until the phone broke, like I mentioned above. It's just still seeing the MEID number as being as a Sprint contract phone. I think I just need someone to unlock it or find a way to get the unlock code so I can do it myself.
so what you're saying is, that I can't just get an unlock code to get it off of Sprint, I actually have to flash it to another carrier again? What carrier would you suggest? Could I use NET10 or StraightTalk?
Anybody?

OK, I didn't really get any help yet, so instead of another bump could maybe someone point me to a working tutorial to flash my LS970 to another network? One that I can use as a pre paid service. Like Ting or Net10 or Virgin? Please.

I canceled my unlocked pre order that i was going to use on my AT&T account when they told me end of May early June before it ships. I was wondering is the Verizon branded one fully functional out the box for att like a lot of their other phones are? If so just gonna go in and buy one for 648
I don't think it is. The T-Mobile one probably is, though.

It indeed is unlocked. I have access to a cricket sim. I put the sim in, the phone informed me that it wasn't a verizon sim. I cleared the message, entered the cricket apn and indeed it worked. I am able to place phone calls and surf the web. Signal is HSPA, so maybe the radios are different???
All Verizon LTE devices are sim unlocked I believe

I stand corrected. This is awesome news as I have to purchase mine through BestBuy, and currently all they have are Verizon and Sprint.
I was to they'd receive unlocked but who knows.

IT is sim unlocked, but you will be limited using it on GSM networks, some features will behave wonky, and it will be missing some bands. Buy an unlocked one.
As far as teh bootloader.........maybe soon

I really want the Verizon HTC 10, I have the LG G4 on VZW now which to this day still doesn't have bootloader unlocked and I hate that. I will wait to see if the VZW HTC 10 can have its bootloader unlocked so I can finally go back to having a customer recovery and ROMs.
