Hi, I am curious if anyone can answer this question.
I am a deliberation from obtaining the Tab S version SM-T805K/SM-T805S/SM-T805L launched in Korea with the Exynos 5433 processor. The article here explain this product: phonearena . com/news/Speedier-Samsung-Galaxy-Tab-S-with-Exynos-5433-processor-and-LTE-A-to-be-launched-soon_id61316.; this aricle has an inacccuracy probably from translation, but it supports 'broadband LTE-A', which combines three LTE bands, instead of two like the regular LTE-A for 1.5x increased throughput. Anyway, the release is similar to the Galaxy S5 'broadband LTE-A' with model number SM-G906(S/K/L)
Obviously chainfire's autoroot package for the SM-T805 doesn't work due to different processor.s However, it shares the same processor as the Note 4, so I am curious if there is a method to botain root suing existing downloads and by using TWRP. This amounts to a general question. Is root processor-specific? Does one of the root packages for Note 4 work? Or if a new root package needs to be written for the model altogether.
Please let me know your thoughts.
No the root method is not cpu specific, but it is device specific. However the TWRP method is not as long as there is a twrp version for your device that can be installed. This requires an unlocked boot loader, it's not common for Samsung to lock bootloaders. It's usually only US models that have locked bootloaders.
There is a firmware update for the SM-T805S at Samsung Updates, if you download it, extract the recovery image from it, send it to me and I'll build TWRP for your device.

Wow thank you so much! I have linked it here.
https: // drive.google. com/file/d/0B2CszRKCbxDSM0RuVHI4SHlfWTg/view?usp=sharing
Just for my own clarity, the TWRP version is not CPU or device -specific, but requires a version that can be installed; would you please care to elaborate?
Ah, there is some ambiguity in the thread.
So, the TWRP recovery itself is device specific? and then rooting can be done by sdcard method in TWRP with current version of chainfire's SuperSU zip?
Thank you.
To boot twrp or any recovery it has to be built for a device using files specific to that device such as the kernel. It has to built and configured so that the kernel can boot and then boot recovery. It needs to know the partition layout of that device and such things as the display resolution.
Ashyx is an awesome recovery builder. He built many recoveries such as a twrp mod and also twrp for snapdragon tab s. Without him, some devices may never gotten an custom recovery
I notice that the partition structure seems to be slightly different in the new version.
When you get your tablet I will need you to run a command on the device to get some info.
Hopefully then I can build it.

Just wondering, can it be done from the device itself (no ADB)? If so I can try to get someone to do this on a display model, but availability is questionable. Plus, for some reason, the SM-T805S model has mysteriously disappeared from the Samsung Korea website in the past couple weeks (http:// www.samsung. com/sec/consumer/mobile-tablet/tablet/filter/). The SM-T805K seems to be the most available.
This is the model I am most likely to get. If I got the SM-T805K is there a way to get a hand on the firmware through Kies or other means?
Could you post your commands here? Someone with the device is bound to read this forum and run the commands, but it may take a while. But who knows
Thank you for working on this! :good:
The s,k,l variable is probably just carrier variants. The actual part of the firmware I need is likely the same.

Yes, they are are carrier variants (SK Telecom, KT Olleh, LG U+).
So, does it require ADB to do? what were the commands? :fingers-crossed:
(I spose PM if needed. Thanks!)
You can run the commands on the device itself. It would be best if you have the device because the output would be quite long so a screenshot would be best.
Sorry I havent gotten back sooner. I will report back here when I get the device. :silly:
No worries
Sorry to jump in. Just one question. If the tab is designed/locked for a specific carrier, is there a way to unlock it to any carrier without changing the original ROM?
Thinking of buying this model also, however, im not from Korea!
TQ

I've read on other forums that people have used their korean-carrier device abroad with foreign sims without issue.
This si just a conjecture, but I wonder if we load a custom rom if the device would even be carrier locked anymore. If we delete the hidden.img and cache.img from the rom, if this would solve it? Also, I have seen rooted apps that claim to unlock your device. For me, I consider calling the carrier to have the device unlcoked an option as well.
Using this deivce in the United sttates it is more relevant to note the LTE bands. AT&T would be the only compatible arrier on band 17, and the network would not support LTE-A or broadband LTE-A, but LTE-A is only available in three cities as far as I know.

This forum is terrible for lag, due to all the java crap and ads running on it. The stock browser deals with it the best imo.
However I use the XDA app which provides a smoother experience.
CF-autoroot test build
I have compiled a test build of CF-autoroot for this device. Feedback if it works or not please.

I'm sorry to disappoint. No, I haven't. I was just thinking of getting one the next time I go. depending on the circumtances and this would give me time to do something with the 6 tablets that I currently have.
Ebay acquired a site called gmarket.co.kr a few years back where retailers in south korea sell crap online; shipping is only in-country, but the other obstacle is making payment; you owuld have to wire your funds internationally, but there are fees on top of fees depending on how many banks it has to cross separate from daily forex changes. The cost for a single unit would probably end up to be a thousand dollars. For the shipping, I know people who are among the 27,000 american military deployed over regions in south korea, and through them shipping can amount to a APO or FPO address with USPS Priority Mail.

oh wow. i didn't even realise this post until now. just curious, how long did it take?
i don't have the device but i will try to find someone who has it and is interested in rooting
I've searched and can't find a specific answer on compatibility on ROMs and the different carrier versions of the Fire Phone. It's late so maybe I just picked bad combos in my searches.
1. a. Will it brick an AT&T phone if you install the international ROM (or vice versa)?
b. If it doesn't brick is it effectively turn into an international variant (or vice versa)?
2. Are the CM11/SlimKat ROMs ok to install on any variant (AT&T and/or International)?
3. Are the CM11/SlimKat ROMs ok to install on any size variant (32GB or 64GB)?
I know some phones it's OK and some phones brick when you install other variant ROMs so I just want to confirm before I buy an AT&T version. I also know some ROM's have to re partition the device and I wouldn't want to lose 32GB. I apologize if these have been answered but I can't find them tonight.

I have the exact same question 1, I wouldn't call it "international", just unlocked version I guess
Bump, such easy question should be easy to answer and kind of important

1.a. No.
Source: I installed the UK, US AT&T and US GSM unlocked firmware on my device (T-Mobile netlocked, Germany).
Every Fire Phone works with all variants in general (there are ofc. different pre-installed TTS languages, WiFi channel support differs, etc.)
1.b. As Jose-MXL mentioned, unlocked (as in neutral) describes it a bit better.
The US ''GSM unlocked'' firmware has multi language support, just like the other versions, so you're not stuck with English language.
Again, some WiFi channels won't work, e.g. channel 13 in Germany, because it's based on US standards.
The fimware doesn't affect netlock, ofc. If your device was netlocked before, it will stay locked. If it was unlocked with a code before, it will stay unlocked.
2. Yes, as far as we know.
ggow only mentioned v. 4.6.1 because this was the (latest) tested version at the time. People reported successful installation on 4.6.1, 4.6.3 and 4.6.4 variants.
3. Yes.
Only the system partition is affected when installing SlimKat / CM11 (sorry, just describing it very briefly ^^).
As you know from stock Fire OS, the internal storage and media storage share the remaining storage space, so nothing will change on that partition.
Hi all,
I've managed to do a bad restore with TWRP on my RN5AI (M1803E7SG ) and need a new qcn or a backup of the modem and baseband files. If you have either of these, please share it with me
Thanks
i think it's illegal to change imei here in xda but op was able to fix it.
Hello!
Will you be so kind and tell me, is it possible in that way convert redmi note 5 ai to redmi note 5 global but of course without any illegal activities?
I'm just asking is it possible?!
By illegal activities i mean that i don't wish to change IMEI or anything like that, i would just like to convert phone for chinese market in to phone for global market.
Thank You all and again i'm sorry if i'm offending somebody with this question or ask something stupid.
Afaik if someone share their EFS, and you use it to restore it to your phone; you will copy all the imei information from them. So no one is going to share it with you. You are on your own then. Unless there is a method to edit the IMEI, baseband etc to the same value as written on your box.
You also don't want to use other user IMEI as well, just like other don't want to. If there are 2 devices share the same IMEI, it is possible that they can be banned from the network. Or maybe in a very small possibility of the universe, you will deal with the unknown things. If the other doppleganger device do something bad using their cellphone, you can face the trouble too, as you phone has the same IMEI.
Yes!
I know all this!
Of course!
My intention is that I would like to convert this phone from version which is sold in China (aka AI) to Global version which is sold on EU market! That's it and that's all I would like to achieve!
IMEI change is possible, an I will naturally use original IMEI values from the phone and box.
Anyhow, thank you!

I have found "blank" qcm files (without entered IMEI) for restoring!
This is Indonesian MIUI site!
Here is the link for bunch of qcn files!

Please give is info did you have success!
You can change the IMEI in the qcn file, anyhow this issue has been resolved with the help of another user here. He provided an edited qcn file with my IMEI numbers

That's a true life saver!!! At my previous phone, when we screw up the IMEI, we are on our own. Editing the IMEI only give temporary effect, will be resetted every factory reset. This should give a permanent value.
Do you edit the bluetooth address and wifi mac address as well? Or those address are intact? (0C:98:38:xx:xx:xx something?)
Thanks for trying. IMEI editing topic is a very rare case, and I usually also don't want to deal with (can cause problem later). Should bookmark this in case someday some other users need this.

Both china (AI version) and global has the same hardware. Only India version has different camera setup. All three version can flash the same Global Stable (latest is MIUI 9.5.17.0). I have seen so many buy china/global version and has migrated from one to another without problem. China ROM difference is it doesn't have playstore installed, while Global has it. So to migrate to Global version, simply flash global ROM MIUI 9.5.17.0, no IMEI changes needed. Just remember not to flash the latest MIUI 10 (8.7.9/10), as it has anti rollback protection. As usual, YMMV, DWYOR.

First, let mi thank you for your time, effort and explanations!
Second, here I will go from the end and say that I already know big deal of this you have said to me and that my only reason to do this "operation" of transferring Chinese to Global version is possibility of bootloader lock. As I understand, if one unlock bootloader, like me, to be able to install Global version of ROM, then you stay without lock possibility, and with this without Google Play Store certification.
If I'm wrong here, please tell!
I myself also, don't have time and wish to go in this avanture!
And yes, I don't want to deal with rooting to be able to achieve certification! I wish stock ROM, without anny third party stuff!
Thank you!!!

If what you want to achieve is the device certification, than I don't know exactly the detail. I bought the official version from my country, which is the same as global version, certified. UBL + TWRP + Magisk, still certified (magisk has patched it for me). But some China version (dubbed as RN5 AI), don't have playstore from the beginning. So most likely the phone is uncertified if you choose to use the stock ROM from China. (I don't know the exact detail, let me confirm with other user, takes some time). No other way then, modification is a must. Should flash Global Version, and probably need to TWRP and Magisk to get the certification.

Yeah, seems to me that exactly this is the case i have!
I have bought two phones, one for me and one for my wife, they are both Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 AI and this is China version of the phone, without Google Play Store!
Only difference between them is that my phone is 6/64 Gb and my wife phone is 4/64 Gb!
My phone is Model Number is MEE7S and Global version should be M1803E7SG!
According to hardware list, they are the same, difference is "only" in QCN file and /EFS, /Modem!
I have successfully unlocked bootloader on both phones and i have successfully install on both phones this last Global MIUI verion 9.5.17, without any issue what so ever!
Only, Play Store is Uncertified and when i have tried to again lock bootloader and the install this same global ROM, off course, this is not allowed and to be possible to achieve this, phone must report himself as phone for "Global" market, namely EU.
So, if You can help, please help! :crying:
Again, thank You in advance on everything!

Thank You, but this dosen't solve anything.
This is not intention or direction in which i would like to go (custom ROM).
Few years earlier maybe, but now, i have give up from all of this "games". "Give" me stock ROM and some way to remove bloatware and that's all i need. I don't have ether time or interest for this (life, wife, kids, nature....)
Big help will be "just" a few informations .
1. Is it enough "just" qcn file from M1803E7SG with changed IMEI values from my phone, so that my phone MEE7S would be recognized as M1803E7SG?
2. Is RAM value in ROM universal or it must be exactly specified? I have a phone with 6 Gb RAM and 64 Gb of storage.
3. Must one change /EFS and /Modem partitions accordingly with qcn file (if i'm not mistaken, these partition will be reflashed with new ROM flashing isn't it)?
Thank You all in advance if You can help me with some useful advice!

1. I can't answer that. I know that the M1803E7SG differs from the MEI7S in terms of QCN file, and therefore probably hardware - if you flash a MEI7S QCN on a M1803E7SG, the cell modem won't connect. I would like to try to see if the M1803E7SH qcn can be flashed to the M1803ESG to enable band 28, but I don't know anyone with the H version.
2. Universal - the OS picks up the ram in the kernel.
3. The EFS/Modem folders are overwritten with the QCN file - they are not affected by rom flashing, but can be modifed/written to by TWRP.
Re the .eu version of the rom, it's effectively a universal rom without as much bloatware. It is based on the xiaomi sources and would give you exactly what you're asking for. If you want a stock rom, then this is the closest. If you want to remove the bloatware yourself and use a stock rom, that's fine also. Do what works for you.

Huh!
Here is obviously some type of miscommunication!
My phone Model Number is MEE7S!
I would like to "convert" him to Model Number M1803E7SG which is counterpart of the same phone, "just" Global version!
These are hardware identical phones except enabled bands!!!
And yes, Thank You so much for this information about RAM values, this is excellent!
Also, thank You on such a quick reply i really appreciate this!!! :highfive:

As for the conversion, they are not necessarily the same hardware, the Chinese version MEE7s has fewer bands. Be careful.

Yes, i think that this is main difference between these two phones.
All other is exactly the same, same cameras, same sensors, same display, everything is the same!
And yes, as i have understand, there is no 6 Gb RAM device for global market, only Chinese!
Again, thank You on kind words and understanding, these days it's hard to meet somebody who is not immediately "on the edge" and who is ready to talk and elaborate not to judge!
Thank You!

You have actually got the answer you need. But just to report back from the small survey I have made in the other forum. 5 of the users who bought the China version, all got uncertified. But one user change to AEX and use some ro.build.fingerprint from the Global version, got the certified status (and cts profile true). The other have flash to 9.5.17.0, rooted using magisk, playstore still uncertified, but magisk show cts profile true, basic integrity true. Don't know why still uncertified, maybe the playstore cache the status from before the patch by magisk. So to achieve the certified, no other way without modification. Editing build.prop, or using magisk module is a must.

I'm sincerely amazed how much good people still exists!
I really appreciate your effort and spent time!
Thank You!
Now, there is definitely some strange issues here.
I think that maybe solution is to edit qcn file and make this phone Global version. Then, bootloader can be locked and Global ROM can be installed. As i understand, later google policy is that bootloader must be locked and in that way Store will be certified, i hope.
Now, as i understand, this can be done in two ways. One will be to make qcn backup from phone and then edit this backup so that phone model number could be changed, and then this qcn backup, with all other values intact, flash back to phone. Other is to find from someone qcn backup, who has this Global phone, and then in this backup change IMEI and all oher values to correspond all values from my phone.
Now, what's you opinion about all of this?
And again, thank You!!!
I was the one who sent OP with the global qcn file with his/her original imei's. QCN means QUALCOMM CALIBRATION NETWORK file. It only contains your imei and the signal bands your phone should connect to. There is no way you can change model number on the qcn file alone. Sometimes flashing different qcn from a different device will make the phone's baseband unknown.
I think the model number for xiaomi is embedded on the motherboard.
