I have a message on my phone about a new firmware/software update ready to be installed.
Am on ATT LG E980.....Anybody else seeing this????
EDIT: It's only ~5MB so it cannot be a major update. It must be the previous update I never installed....and I am sure it will break my root and phone !!! But that was months ago ?
Why are they trying to push it again? Or is it a new one? Don't know...
But don't install any new update since it is not a major one. Quite sure it will soft brick the phone like the last one. ATT and their old tricks.
Last version was 20h..is this one the same or some different version number?
Sent from my LG-E980 using XDA Free mobile app
I dont know the version number because I did not download it yet. Will do and report.
What version is your G Pro right now? If its 20H then it looks like you have found a new update.
Mine is 20H on ATT and no updates are available.
.
Did it actually soft-brick you? My wife mentioned something about an update right before her phone soft bricked. And, what makes things even more fun, the last update soft bricked her AND screwed up things so that I can't even connect to USB to flash back to stock (Unknown device)

Your usb will work with the right drivers. No update will hardbrick your usb
Thanks, but I've already those drivers up to the brand new ones on the LG website, no dice. If the update didn't cause it, it was sure the worst case of coincidence I've had in a long time
Didn't mean to highjack, was just wondering if anyone had that same extra symptom.
Anyone know how I can turn off the update notification?

I spoke too soon Today the update was forced on me which since I am rooted soft bricked the phone. I guess when I finally get it back I'll follow the advice in the thread Flaco linked to. Thanks.

I recently got the OTA 4.3 update and accepted it, but i felt the need to root it which i but after the rooting process was finished i booted my phone and instantly got a message saying superuser has stopped working. So i kinda panicked and decided to flash the stock MD4 rom and once it finished i tried to reboot the device but didnt get a response from it. I then pulled the battery out and tried to boot into recovery but still nothing not even a vibrate...Im most likely thinking its bricked but just to be sure im asking for your help. Thanks.
You hard-bricked it. When you update to MK3/4.3 via the OTA, you update the bootloader, which adds KNOX which prevents (by bricking) downgrading to anything lower than 4.3 versions. Good luck my friend.

Yea i figured i did lol. You think my bestbuy total device protection will take care of it? Also thanks for the clarification.
I could say go in and play dumb, because they won't be able to get it to boot under normal circumstances. I also could say be honest and see if it's covered. Your judgement call. Glad to have helped.
By chance can you get it into download mode?

Nope nothing like I said the phone didn't vibrate when trying to boot it up

If you can return it to Best Buy as defective or DOA and have them replace it on the spot, do it. I doubt they've got the gear to check out the software/firmware status if it doesn't power up. However, if you are forced to go through Samsung directly then you may or may not be SOL. Good luck amigo.

Call Samsung and tell them you tried to root and bricked it. They won't care. they will reflash it for free. They will email you a return label and all.
I know this because I just bricked mine yesterday too....

Were you rooted with a custom recovery? You should know that you need to be 100% stock to accept updates and as this clearly is made to block root you cannot even be "just rooted."
That's exactly right. My phone was "just rooted". Lesson learned. The bright part is I got another chance to refresh my experience to use odin to unblock it.

Glad you got it working. Always wise to wait and see what others say about the OTA's first. It is safe to assume that security will only get tighter going forward. Wait for developers to pull bootloader and baseband out as a flashable, then also update the ROMs to be able to get on the latest. Most of the time someone will post a pure stock rooted ROM.
How do you use odin to unblock this OTA? What do you load?

I saw this this morning on my phone. When I went to update it asked if I wanted to install this untrusted file. I declined. So there's nothing special about this but a number change?

Yep. Best method would be to flash a stock ROM. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2780984 Direction and downloads are both in that thread. Enjoy and good luck!
The stock keyboard is killing me when choosing words from the suggested list with this update. It always double spaces when selecting a word! That and with swipe not being totally accurate it's a headache. Guess I'll download kii and make it my default.. It's also crazy how this phone never gets updated with new kernels. My mom's S3 went up to 3.4.0 after kitkat and this phone did not. Why?

Anyhow.. Time to use that nandroid i posed in the dev section to accept the OTA.. -or- I will post an updated one later this evening.

Ran into an issue with this update. It failed to install on 11/3 with a error code 409, but when I try to download it again by selecting "Check for new system updates" it says I have the latest update. I've rebooted a number of times and it shows up every time. From what little information I can find online, I have to reset my phone to factory then attempt to update again. I want to avoid this so here I am.

Update: I decided to just to a factory reset. Thankfully it worked and I am at the latest firmware.
So I've tried letting this update run a couple times. Downloading for the third time as I write this. When it tries to install, it just reboots into TWRP recovery and does nothing. Then I restart the phone and basically start the process all over again. Any guidance on how to get this squared away?? I met one of the members here with a card who S-offed, unlocked, rooted, my phone which I'm thankful for. Just want to be stock rooted is all. Don't really do much with custom roms on this phone. Thanks.

Hi guys,
Yesterday I got sweaty hand palms.
My EU 815 G4 is unlocked, the official way, and I had rooted it.
Then I tried to install xposed from twrp and I did something wrong, and ended up in bootloop...
I have just updated to v20b before, and forgot to connect the phone to the PC, and allow the PC debug access before installing xposed, so i could see the phone in ADB mode, but couldn't access it.
Of course I hadn't made a backup before this - I like to cry
Just as a desperate try, when everything else had failed, i thought about using the new tool provided by shakeyabooti LG UP to flash the factory KDZ all over
I put the phone in SW. update mode by:
1. Turning off the phone
2. connecting USB cable to the PC
3. Press and hold vol. up while connecting the USB cable to the phone
Then i downloaded the v20b KDZ file, provided by Autoprime (since this was what i where allready running)
Opened LG UP, loaded the H81520B_00.kdz, marked REFURBISH
Lastly i pressed "Start" and waited for about 15-20 minutes and "TADAAAA"
The phone where up and running again... only things lost where root and TWRP
- Sharing since I'm properly not the only one ending up in this kind of mess

Indeed. Maybe you'll find a cool employee at your vendor who will still do it, but your warranty is definately void and they don't need to do anything. Depends on how acommodating the employee is. If you're stuck in a bootloop @rakinisbat just follow the steps in this thread.
And please keep in mind that there's a way to get out of bootloops 99% of the time (in fact 100% if it's a software related problem), you just have to do a good search on xda. Furthermore there's an uninstaller app for xposed in the official rovo89 thread, which you can flash via recovery and it which undos the xposed installation and your phone will boot fine (if you can access TWRP - just flash it). If you have further questions you can PM me, always happy to help

I have that batch of H815 with the faulty motherboard, unfortunately I'm in that 1% *Sigh* :crying:
Tried literally everything i could with the software, pretty much confirmed it is the motherboard.
It looks like the KDZ is flashing properly, as LGUP shows whichever kdz i put on, but the actual hardware is not capable of booting into the OS.

Nope, my bootloader is unlocked, im a flash-a-holic, longest i have lasted without rooting or unlocking a bootloader is about 2 weeks. I would have never imagined such a massive hardware issue with a flagship phone. I'll probably get a nexus 6P atleast it has better support than a LG. I'm in Australia, I imported this phone when it was released, so i have to send this phone overseas if i want it repaired, which they will most likely deny.
Sooooo over LG now! There are like hundreds if not thousands that are effected they are not even acknowledging it or providing a viable solution.

OK so the att tab s was rooted I, impulsivity, decided to try and flash Xposed through FlashFire. I mistakenly flashed the wrong zip though. I refuse to give up, so any and all help would be appreciated
can you go to recovery? then only way i can think off is format data thru recovery.

Did they actually flash with odin or just fail?
That screen usually presents itself when something fails to flash.
They failed, I don't remember what was flash to cause that screen. I have no problem getting Odin to connect..I just lack the right files apparently. Well I had requested many times for someone to catch the OTA when it came, but not one person could be bothered to make the effort. So now you and others are in this unfortunate situation. [emoji19]
If someone with root can pull the system.img from a T807a running lollipop there may be a chance it would flash.
Yeah I saw you asked that a few times while I was searching through threads. I have even thought about replacing the mother board lol. I got the us cellular variant really cheap on eBay so I don't need this tab but this is my first brick out of all the devices I have owned. So it's a pride thing lol...
So would any exynos variant stock recovery work? I'm pretty sure I was on 5.0.2

It's unlikely any other recovery would work, even though it would be compatible, it will likely just get rejected by the bootloader.
However you've nothing to lose by trying.
Like is had said in your original thread... If you can find a samsung support store or even bestbuy (although the ones around here have no idea what they are doing), they can flash the original firmware for you... The same thing happened to me with xposed, except I installed the right one, it just bricked the tablet, which i suspect is because we can't get any other recovery nor unlock our tablets, all we can do is root them...
