[Q] 16GB Optus (Aus) Version of G3 - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone here used it?
I was wondering what firmware etc it was on as i get one this Saturday. I'm also assuming we arent lucky like the t-mobile version and have an unlocked bootlater as default? I Have always been addicted to flashing roms haha, been doing it since the HTC Dream (I.e the G1) days with jesusfreke root.
Having come from a Nexus 4 where it is easy to return to root/relock the bootlader if you need to send in for a warranty, What is it like for the G3? If i put TWRP on there and something hardware wise goes wrong, is it easy to relock etc? I have read about the LGFlashtool but notice a lack of availability of the Optus Firmware to use as a backup
Cheers

HTC Desire on Orange - Debranding?!

Hi
Apologies for this post if it's been done many times before but I've been digging around now for hours and keep finding conflicting advice on problems I will run into so I just need someone to clarify if it's possible and what I need to do to ensure I don't loose wifi access or brick my phone or anything like that....
I bought a HTC Desire locked to Orange (UK) yesterday and I would like to get it unlocked and debranded. The unlocking part should not be a prob as I'll just buy a code from somewhere (or thats the hope anyhow) but when it comes to reflashing to debrand I keep coming across posts about wifi issues or OTA updates making progs force close, thus the Desire becoming unstable.
All I want to know is..... How do I get rid of all the Orange crap and go to a generic HTC Desire ROM so it would be like I bought a retail Desire? Is this possible without messing up my phone?? I'm currently on 02 (UK) but also bought an Orange PAYG sim just incase things get overly complicated. I would like to stick with my 02 sim but don't want to run into any probs with my phone, and if needs be I could switch over to Orange but that would be my last resort. I would also like to get rid of the Orange flash screen and the Orange apps that came preinstalled on my phone. Some posts say it's possible, some posts say I will have issues with the radio version, some posts say I will loose wifi and the Desire will turn unstable (lots of force closed prompts). If I did manage to go back to the retail Desire ROM, would I then run into probs with OTA updates?
Sorry if this question is proper nooby, but in truth that's exactly what I am and I'm getting totally lost!! After hours of digging I thought I'd just post this up and see if someone can clarify the situation before I dig in and start flashing. Better to be safe than sorry and all that.
Any help would be appreciated!!
With an orange branded desire, you'll definitely have to unlock it - i did with mine, although i discovered that after i'd flashed it
the only think i would advise you to do is to read up on the various rom threads - the first couple of posts in each thread will tell you what each rom does and will invariably give you a couple of screenshots as well.
that way you can decide which one you want in the firsts instance. then i'd skip to the end of the thread and read back a few pages from that point, so you'll get an idea of what problems (if any) people are still having.
it really comes down to personal preference and taking a chance - most, if not all of the roms on here are working and stable and won't really give you many problems.
Yea its an eyesore to say the least is that filthy orange branding
get it debranded first using a goldcard and flashed with rooted generic rom
then purchase sim unlock code to use your o2.
then update and mod to your hearts "desire"
Firstly, thanks for your quick replies! I had a feeling this was going to be a bit of a mission!!
Ok, so say I've unlocked and unbranded my phone. What happens with OTA updates from there on in? Is it just a case of doing them manually and switching off auto OTA? I read somewhere that by flashing with a rooted ROM it will block OTA from updating to prevent the phone getting locked or becoming unstable, is that right?
Also, this may be a stupid question but if it's flashed to a generic HTC ROM then where does it contact for the updates? I was figuring as soon as I'd gotten rid of the Orange fw that it would no longer be looking for the Orange'd ROM update but after reading this doesn't seem to be the case?
Please forgive me if I'm being ignorant, I've gone from a Nokia 1600 (lol) to a HTC Desire and trying to get my head around it all!!
I would like to know too, I have just bought a Orange branded desire.
1. Do I unlock the phone 1st, ie. get an unlock code from orange.
2. do I then flash the generic firmware.
3. Is the sim lock stored in the radio part of the firmware?
I have unbranded/unlocked nokia n80`s and htc tync`s in the past, but I need to swat up on this linux stuff.
Any usefull advice welcomed, in the mean while I`ll keep reading
The OTA updates will become completely unecessary because you'll be using a custom rom - the developer of that rom will be the one releasing the updates, so all you'll have to do is to re-flash each updated version.

Well what I did was to root the phone first, then flash the radio and then a rom. the new radio is what caused the simlock, so it was at that point i had to buy an unlock code. all works completely fine now.

So can the simlock be removed by flashing a simfree radio rom??? I`m pretty sure this is what i did on an old tync to remove simlock.....but this was some time ago
you say the radio Rom you flashed caused the simlock, did you not have to supply the network provider as well as the IMIE to get the unlock code? or was this a generic Radio rom?
My wife has just got a htc desire HD on 3 and that is branded.
I have got a Samsung Galaxy S and i have unbranded that down loading a Manufacture Rom and that updates as normal.
Is there some software like odin for the Htc and were like samfirmware.com can i down load a Manufactures rom.
she went for this phone cos of the spec and she does not like my Samsung i was hoping the Htc community would be the same it is so easy to do and Samsung service centres checked my firmware and it was fine.
Most people just want there phone as Htc intended it to be
HTC finally launched their Gingerbread update (2.3.3) for Desire. I am using a Desire (telstra locked Android 2.1), downloaded the new update from the official website HTC website and now i have a completely unbranded HTC Desire with 2.3.3... NO GOLDCARD OR ROOT REQUIRED.

Is there Stock Sense or GPE with OTA for T-Mobile M8?

Hey guys!
I'm European user. Few months ago I bought sealed 32GB HTC M8 from Ebay, not realising that all 32GB ones are T-Mobile branded. It came with unlock code and pinch of disappointment. The thing is, in Bulgaria there even isn't T-Mobile as an option and I want to get rid of all the T-Mobile bloatware on my phone.
I've already unlocked my bootloader, rooted and sunshine s-off my phone. I'm considering either going stock sense or going GPE (so far I've had 2 Nexus devices last 4 years, loved stock) but I want to keep OTA and I don't seem to be able to find neither GPE 5.0.1 RUU nor Stock Sense RUU with OTA for T-Mobile Can you give me any directions - I do realise that after flashing new rom, I will have to put back a stock recovery.

If you do a full GPE conversion including the MID and CID you should be able to receive OTAs. Try this thread. READ THE WHOLE SET OF INSTRUCTIONS!!! NOBODY IS RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR DEVICE GETTING BRICKED!!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708589
I've actually done this conversion and later switched back to a stock Sense build. Make sure you read the entire set of instructions.
Thanks for the info, Phil! By "I went back to stock sense“ do you mean T-mobile stock room or stock international unbranded rom?

Stock T-mobile. The GPE didn't get very good signal here. On average I had half the bars and trouble keeping LTE.
You are not the first one that complains from GPE conversion signal issues around here... Is it per device basis or it's just in US that GPE devices have issues?

I've only had experience on the T-Mobile version of the phone converted to GPe, running on T-mobile USA towers.
I converted my device using the RUU from the thread you sent me. I seem to have good coverage but I kinda miss some of the HTC Sense apps. I thought that at least I would be able to download the HTC camera app. I will probably find it's apk somewhere as the stock google camera app seems worse.

a few of the effects are still available through the photos app instead of gallery. think you had to hit edit. I think I missed blinkfeed most of all. Really did like the google stock dialer though.

[Q] Updating an unlocked LG G4. No rooting.

I have the LG G4 H812 (Canadian model). Bought from Bell and unlocked to use with Koodo (they don't have the G4) I read somewhere you can update an unlocked phone (because you update over WIFI) then I read that you CAN'T. That you have to root it and build an OS/ROM. I am not prepared to do that because I'm pretty certain I would ruin the phone. I'm terrified to even try. Rooting might be ok but building a OS/ROM? Forget it! I mean WHY do I want to build an OS? I just want to be able to update my phone! Not go through a bunch of crap. But no somebody said you HAVE TO build it...
So can I get android updates on my phone or not? It's running 5.1.
Watching this video. Would this happen with an android phone? youtubeDOTcom/watch?v=o8gGb2lqJjE
And PLEASE no "GO away newb. This is for developers only la la la". I'm asking here because I can't get a straight forward answer anywhere. I spent almost $800 on this phone and I want to be able to update it without it getting ruined in the process. Or else I will have to return it. I don't want to because there are no other phones I even remotely like.
Not sure what you mean with update. If you mean updates from LG, sure no problem. My unlocked G4 (H815, asian model) on AT&T was updated this morning, using wifi. Root not necessary.

I would assume that since you are just unlocked in the carrier sense and not Root/Bootloader unlocked that this should not be an issue.....I mean I have never heard of this causing a problem before now.
I will try to look around and find out a concrete answer for you though as like you said, would hate to have something negative happen to that wonderful (and expensive) device.
Updates won't be a problem. I bought a G3 from Rogers because Telus didn't carry the LG Line. I immediately sim unlocked it so I could run it on the Telus network. Received the lollipop update with no issues.

Has anyone rooted a Bell Canada HTC 10?

Hi everyone,
I've been researching for a couple days and I'm pretty much ready to root my phone. I have the Bell Canada version. All I want to do is unlock the bootloader, root it, and install Xposed. From what I can tell, I shouldn't have any problems. But I've been seeing a lot about the radio not working, and I'm concerned I might be screwing myself since there is no RUU for the international version of the HTC 10. Which means, as far as I can tell, that if I screw up my phone there's no going back. I haven't seen many threads addressing specifically the Bell/international version, so I want to be clear before I try anything. I have much experience rooting phones, but I'm new to HTC and it seems much more complicated and risky.
So I have a few questions:
- Has anyone successfully rooted the Bell/international variant of the HTC 10 without issues or radio loss?
- Further, has anyone gotten Xposed framework working?
- Is there a way to revert the phone back to stock/fully functioning in the case that the radio stops working or some other problems arise?
Thanks in advance.
I plan on getting one soon and root it. Would be fun to know if someone did it already.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Found some information on reddit

Were you guys able to root and/or flash a ROM on the Bell model?
I am running Leeroid ROM on my Bell HTC 10. Very easy. Unlock bootloader, install twrp with fastboot and you're gold
Xposed works great too. Never had an issue with radio since rooting. I do have a minor problem which only started happening since i removed the rom encryption and my lte wont work until i go into mobile networks and reset apn to default. Once i do that my lte works like normal until i reboot and have to repeat the 10 second process.
And you can always save a twrp backup of your stock ROM if you want to go back.
sweet, thanks for confirming! Did you manage to get a Sharp display by chance? I have a feeling that literally all of the Bell ones are of Tianma.
Bell user here. I'm on stock rom with latest update with some mods. Phone runs pretty good now,
1.90.666.4 OS
Sunshine > $25 dollar paypal (S-OFF)
TWRP for recovery
AcoustiX_Audio_ZeroInfinity_v30 (make speaker louder)
ElementalX-HTC10-0.25-Sense (Plus $3.00 EX Kernal Manager Paypal)
Tweaked_pnp_thermal_ivicask_v19
I've rooted my HTC 10 using sunshine. I'm currently on Leedroid's ROM.
As anyone successfully restored to stock? I need to do so to unlock. I want to use a different SIM.
There was a bell ruu somewhere around. Just run that and you'll be back to full stock.
Do you have a link?
No but @xunholyx might be able to help
I have the 2.41.666.3 RUU. You can download it here.
Thanks a lot. I also need a stock recovery. Is it included?
Yes. RUUs always contain the stock recovery. They restore everything to stock. Also, it will wipe your phone, so backup anything you don't want to lose.

Questions before I buy an M9...

I have some probably stupid questions that hours of searching hasn't yielded a firm answer to.
I'm looking to buy a used M9 with the intent of running Lineage 14.1 on it.
Questions:
1. Not a question, but the only international M9 I've found has a bad microphone, so I probably won't go that route. Otherwise, I'd go that route.
2. I'm thinking that an At&t one is my best bet as I'm on cricket and probably will be for quite some time (at least). I've read that (unlike my POS At&t S4) the bootloaders are unlockable but the real issue is gaining s-off ( which is needed to install and not just boot TWRP, right?). Can S-off be attained on a phone that has the OTA Marshamallow update installed (as I have yet to see one on ebay that is for sure 5.0)? If not, is there a way to revert one back to 5.0 so I can?
3. Failing that, there is T-mobile. First, do the T-mobile ones have a different GSM/LTE modem, or is it the same as the At&t version? Second, my understanding is that even if an app-unlockable T-mobile phone unlocked it is one accidental partition write away from loosing the unlock. Is that true, or are app-unlocked T-mobile's permanently unlocked once "permanently unlocked"?
4. On the Lineage OS site I only see a listing for US GSM M9's. Is this a combined image between Att and Tmobile, or is only one supported (or lumped into the international GSM version)?
Sorry for the dumb questions, but having had to return two LG G4's over similarly stupid Gotcha's, I'd like to buy without having a 75% chance of having to send the bleeping thing back because I can't actually install a rom on it.

Will, I won't answer all the questions, but still, u do not need S-OFF to install TWRP or roms.
U only need to unlock your bootloader.
And be sure to make a system image backup if u ever been to go back to stock, or take an OTA.
The "readme" thread is your friend. ?
I feel stupid. Somehow I missed that thread... That answers my questions, Att phone it is.
