Battery not fully charging - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 4

So here's a weird thing I'm experiencing:
I left my phone charging overnight, like always. In the morning, I saw the "fully charged" notification, so I unplugged it. To my surprise, the battery percentage dropped instantly from 100% to 96%.
Then, after thinking that maybe I was crazy and it never actually showed the "fully charged" notification, I plugged it in again. The phone said "charging" for a few seconds and then showed again the "fully charged, unplug device" notification. I proceeded to unplug it again and instantly the battery indicator changed to 96% again...
Anyone having this issue? Is my battery messed up already?

Yes that's normal....it's the way the software is nothing wrong with your battery even when it says zero you still have like 30 percent battery left...notice when your phone is dead you can still go into different modes....there used to be a number you could dial into the dialer and it would unlock it to be able to be used. But then when it's needed it's really dead...I think that's why they stopped that or maybe even it still exists and we don't know...but that's normal...that's the way Samsung coded it...every phones battery indication is just what has been programmed not an actual gauge for the battery...HTC is very renowned for doing that...when my phone died I could go into fast boot and it would stay there a very very long time with a bright white screen and even get nice and warm without shutting off...your good dude...

I think to recalibrate battery you have to let it drain completely until it shuts off. Then you have to charge it while it's off until full. Afterwards turn it on and charge until full and it should recalibrate. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Charging Issues - Not charging all the way

Is anyone else having a problem with the touch pro 2 not charging fully when it is off. I have the Tilt2 and have tried many different ROMs. For whatever reason if i charge the phone while it is off, it only charges to around 96% or less. I do have the 1% battery driver installed and i can not figure out for the life of me why it will not fully charge. If i leave the phone on, it charges to 100% but at some point i get a message telling me it disconnected from the connection. Can anyone help. Thanx
Same issue :-(
me too. Same problem
There's been several threads on this. The general consensus is the battery stops charging when it reaches 100%, and then begins to discharge. I've noticed the same behavior but haven't found a fix.
Very odd
The weird thing is that I have charged my phone while it is off and one morning I wake up and turn it on and it is at 91% then the next morning it will be at 100% then the next morning itll be 86%. I usually turn it off around the same time and turn it on around the same time. I cant see it starting to discharge if there is only an hour possible time difference. REALLY annoying lol
Icon issue with charging and Battery level
I have an odd issue. I am running the stock ATT rom until I can get the stupid phone to take the HardSPL (different issue being worked on).
The icon at the top shows the battery at full capacitiy all the time. I have Phone alarm on and it has a battery indicator that shows it as low as 20% while battery icon is still 4 bars full. Also there are times when I remove it from the usb and the charging icon stays on instead of showing the battery icon. If I soft reset then it seems to go to normal and the charging icon is replaced by battery which seems to always show full.

[Q] Instant discharge.

So, I'm on my Evo today, playing a game (Air Strike). My battery is at 93% when I picked the phone up to play, and the phone is plugged in. Suddenly, with no warning what-so-ever, my phone shuts off. Of course a mini-freak out and many "wtf's" ensue. No warning, no signs, even the led went off. I pulled the battery, put it back, then plugged the phone in again. After that it gave me the blinking light indicating the battery was too low to turn on. After a few minutes charging she came back on and battery was at 5%.
How the hell does a battery go from 93% to 0% in less than 5 minutes, and give no warning at all?? Anybody else ever have this problem?
Wow I've have never heard or that happening before. Maybe a glitch in the battery stash? Did it take awhile to charge up to 100%? Can you reproduce the issue again?

I had this problem with my older phone once. The battery itself may have a problem or your phone is not getting charged properly.
Try These :
1) Try charging the phone overnite from the Wall charger (Not through USB of your computer)
2) If the above does not work, and you have access to another evo battery, then try using that.(try using a friends battery and charger for a day. ) (Ofcourse needless to say the charger and battery must be for Evoonly )
In my case, my phone started working fine again after getting my battery & charger replaced.
Probably shouldn't worry about it too much just yet. Could be something as simple as your battery meter was mis-calibrated. The meter itself is software so it can easily be wrong/off. If it continues you may have a bad battery.
Sounds to me like something is wrong. Did you just get the phone or have you had it?
Idk... The phone had been plugged in for most of the day (hadn't gone anywhere. Lazy day lol) And like I said, the led went completely out as well.
Haven't had the problem again, so we'll see I guess....

I've seen some posts about the Evo battery shutting off the charge when its being used. Were you using your Evo while it was charging?
If the battery doesn't seem to be giving you percentages that are accurate, you might want to recalibrate your battery.

Battery recalibration (Thanks to Cyanogen for this and to fachadick for bringing it to my attention).
If you're experiencing higher than normal battery drain, try the following:
1. Charge the phone to full battery; let it keep charging until the battery says it is fully charged. Do not just wait until the light is green, it isn't always fully charged, causing a lot of inaccuracies. (You can check by going to: Settings -> About Phone -> Status -> Battery Level = Full.)
2. Boot to recovery and wipe battery stats.
(To have the most accurate of battery stats, reboot the phone immediately after wiping the battery stats and wait for your ROM to boot completely to the desktop. Once your entire boot is done and you have full access to the phone, go ahead and pull the charger and continue.)
3. Do not charge the phone until after draining the battery completely, resulting in it automatically shutting off. Take out the battery, and keep trying to turn on your phone until it will not turn back on at all.
4. Recharge the phone completely and then use as you normally would.
This is a method that has been proven to work, I am sure there are other ways. My battery lasts longer after doing this and the reading is much more accurate. It might be advisable to do this after every ROM install if you want the most battery life and most accurate battery reading by the phone's software.

[Q] Phone Charging Question

Problem:
I have been reading as many posts as possible but I haven't come across my exact situation. I apologize if this is posted elsewhere.
I am running a rooted Dinc using CyanogenMod 7.0.3. If I charge the phone while it's powered on, the amber led turns green as soon as the battery indicator hits 100%. However, recently I've noticed that if the battery is close to being full, say 90%, and i power it off to charge it, it actually takes longer for the amber led to turn green. It might take 20-30 minutes longer.
I've also noticed the amber light turn green when the indicator only showed 92%. In trying something different I also noticed that if I charge the phone while it's powered on, then turn the phone off, the led goes amber and takes another 20 minutes to turn green again (I might be accidentally bump charging in this example but I'm not sure).
Attempted Solution:
I've read that a battery recalibration might help. I tried one method that requires the battery to be pulled after a full charge, but my phone won't boot while plugged into the wall if there's no battery. Then I tried booting into recovery, where I found an option to reset the battery stats... which I just did about 5 minutes ago.
I'm going to see how things go tomorrow, but is this normal? Has anyone else experienced these things? Thanks.

The kernel and the hardware charge it in different ways. That's why there are differences. DInc is famous for ending charging before the battery reads full. There's already a thread on that. there's not much point in getting hung up on how that thing charges. Be glad yours isn't like mine; a battery that discharges faster than it charges. Seriously.

Before I had a fast charge kernel (thanks Chad!) Using GPS with the stock VZW car charger, my battery would go down while it was on the charger!
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
On AOSP roms, the LED will turn green at 90% and charge slower from 90%-100%. Perfectly normal, and I think on any rom it will charge slowly from 90%-100% to protect the battery.
The battery will charge further when you turn the phone off, what you described is what's known as bump charging. If you do this, you should notice a slower drop from 100%-90% than usual, because the battery is charged to a "true" 100%. When the phone is on and charging (above 90%), it simply keeps the battery above 90% even if it says it's fully charged, and this is why the inc is notorious for the quick 100%-90% drop.
If you do a bump charge and then clear the battery stats and use the battery calibration app will you need to bump charge again or will it know what the true 100% capacity is and keep the droid lasting longer. Not noticing much of a diffrence when i went from 1300 battery to a 1500. May get a bigger batter that'll fit the stock battery door cause I'm trying to get the best battery life i can get.
Thanks guys, I appreciate the help. I think something else that has thrown me off is that before I rooted the phone I wasn't able to see the actual battery percentage in numbers... all I could see was the battery icon. Things are now making more sense.
After recalibrating my battery I bump charged the other day and I was able to get almost 2 days out of my phone on light usage. Without bumping, I was able to end my day yesterday at 50% under my normal usage. Which is a noticeable improvement. Normally I end the day with about 10-20%. The big test will be once I go back to work next week. The cell reception is real spotty in my classroom, which I know makes the cell radio work harder.
Thanks again.
I found a lot of answers I was having about battery charging in this thread:
Your battery gauge is lying to you (and it's not such a bad thing)

[Q] False 100% Battery Notification

I haven't had any issues with my stock, un-rooted Epic Touch (purchased day 1) until two days ago. I plug the phone in to charge, and when it is actually around 70-90%, it gives me the notification that the battery is 100% with the blue light. When I unplug the phone it instantly shows the actual percentage - somewhere between 70-90%. It started two days ago, when I woke up and was confused as to why it "dropped" down to 74% within 8 minutes of use off the charger. I have now come to realize that the phone actually stops charging when the "false 100% notification" activates. If I unplug and replug it back in, it starts charging again... until it decides to notify me that it is at 100% again. Any ideas as to why this is happening? Do I have a bad battery, bad charger, or is something else crazy-stupid going on?
Thanks for any feedback you can give me. Merry Christmas everyone!
If it were me, I'd try an old-school Evo 4G-style calibration. Run it down until it dies, charge it to full while leaving it off, pull battery for about ten seconds, charge it until reports full again, then turn it back on.
Ok cool. I'll try that and see what happens. Thanks for the quick response.
I would also try badass battery from the market. Its free and may show you some odd app or what part of the system is draining it.
You can also use better battery stats from here on xda.

below 90% this idea on why its doing this does not apply but it COULD be related.
once you get above 90% its very difficult to tell when a lithium cell is "fully charged" and its VERY easy to over charge them.
this is why car chargers kill batteries in the old days of lithium (should not do this any longer)
when your over 90% the circuitry "CAN NOT" determine if the battery is 100% or not until it "tries to charge" the battery a little.
once it tries to charge it can then determine that yes its 100%
problem is if your already at 100% you just over charged the battery (very bad for lithium cells)
now once is meaningless but do it a dozen times every week and you might knock 6 months or more off the life of that cell.
this is what car charges do much of the time. everytime you "turn the key off then on" you "restart" the charger (unless your car leaves the circuit live when off some do some don't)
each time it does this it has to "charge a bit" to see if its charged or not IE overcharging the battery.
SO what they have done on some devices is arrange it so if the charge is 90% or over IE that range where it can not "tell" without "charging it a bit" it simply refuses to charge the phone. it says "full"
until power drops below 90% then it initiates a normal charge sequence.
its possible this is whats happening? ? I really don't know just an idea.
Useful info about the battery. Probably not the issue though.
I tried letting it die, turning off, charging to "full" - turned it back on and it was at 79%. Looks like I'll be contacting Sprint tomorrow. Of course this would happen when I have to travel.
Turn off your phone and recharge until its says 100% or blue notofication . Then pull the battery out including charger so it has no power for more than 60 seconds. Put back battery and reboot and your percentage should be more accurate.

That's what wolfkstaag said to do, but I'll try with the battery out longer. Only did it for 10 secs last time. Thanks Kali.
Thanks for the help everyone. Back to normal. Also, thanks to the mods for moving to the q&a section.

Battery not fully charging, stops at 90%

This has just started to happen to me, past 4 days.
So I know people had issues saying phone takes ages to charge even on quick charge- this hasn't happened to me before... It might be the case now > hence why I'm asking.
My phone has always lasted me 2 days to 15%- then I always charge to full- but I've never overcharged it ever.
Like I said it's now charging to 90% only and it's saying fully charging,
Do you thing my battery lost some juice, had the phone brand new in UK, or do you lot know a solution.
Thanks
ive just charged the phone again, and this time it indicated with a beep and led green light flashing that when it hit 90% it was fully charged- with only the indication off the green led light flashing and the beep, but when i woke up the phone on my lock screen- it said still charging and its was indicating through the animation of the battery (top right corner) that's its still charging???- left the phone for another 20 mins and woke up my phone and no indication off green led light or the fully charged beep, yet the phone battery showing me its fully charged at 100%.
I do use lightflow app to tell me about when the phone charging/fully charge and use it for other settings, - ive looked through the app to see if ive selected a lower battery charge - but i havent
