[Q] T-Mobile M8 (Soft)bricked during RUU flash - T-Mobile HTC One (M8)

Hi all.
Yesterday i got a brand new T-Mobile M8 that was simlocked. I bought a code, unlocked successfully, and the phone reboots. Upon reboot, the phone was still locked!!!
Puzzled, i then decided to unlock the bootloader. Strangely, the bootloader unlock reported success, and the dialog for enabling the bootloader unlock appeared on the M8. Upon selecting yes, the phone immediately rebooted and went to recovery mode, for a wipe.
This was rather strange, since the only time i have seen that happen was with a phone that had been relocked and was being unlocked again. AND the bootloader was still LOCKED!! WTH???
I then decided to flash the latest RUU (RUU_M8_UL_K44_SENSE60_MR_TMOUS_2.22.531.6_R_Radio_1.19.213311491.03G_20.56.4198.02L_F_release_387828_signed_2.exe)
Unfortunately, flashing failed. I received an Error 152, and now my phone is stuck on black htc screen with 4 exclamation marks on the corners.
I have tried flash with fastboot, using the OTA update OTA_M8_UL_K444_SENSE60_MR_TMOUS_3.32.531.2-2.22.531.6_R_release_394974mqo8f0544e0wuw1c.zip
NO JOY
Tried reflashing the RUU, again, error 152. I am literally at my wits end right now. I don't live in a country where i can get a warranty replacement.
This is my current Output from fastboot getvar all:

THanks.. Done. Now, any ideas on how to fix?

I have the same problem except that I re-installed the firmware and it actually completed and then I installed ViperROM. Only problem is I dont have any 4G or any data connectivity. Before I re-flashed there were 2 things that the phone said that didnt update this ---> "pg2fs_spcustom" and I forgot the other one. But I reflashed again using the ARU Wizard using same firmware and it actually said it completed. Before though I did get the same error as he mentioned the 152. I couldnt anything to work except the ARU Wizard. The CMD prompts didnt do anything to the phone.

So I should re-run the RUU? That seems like it might be a good idea. Will update when i get home.
THANKS!

So i flashed again, and again, and again, and finally it completed the flash. I am however back to the point where entering the unlock code causes the phone to reboot, but its still locked at the end of the reboot. Unlocking bootloader still does not work.
Any one seen this problem before?

This is what happens when i enter the unlock code:
http://youtu.be/HNYhTjx0iss

Hmmm well I would call T-Mobile and tell them you can't unlock it,right before it reboots what does that message say is it saying successful unlock or is it giving some kind of error

I can't call T-Mobile because i don't live Stateside anymore. It does unlock successfully but reboots and its back to square one, locked. I would return it if i could, sadly i cannot.

I finally got a way to return it to the US. Currently using a gold sprint M8. SWEET phone. Thanks everyone...

Softbricked my HTC One M8, any advice is much appriciated

Well its been some time since was rooting and romming phones (so please give advice step by step) but just the other day I soft bricked my One M8 and I am at wit's end trying to fix it.
Scenario was I was happy running gpe 4.4.2 on my phone awhile now until I saw the GPE rom was getting an OTA update with Lollipop. To avoid the hassle of installing an ota updat the dirty way I thought to just re-lock my bootloader, flash recovery and just update. Well it went like this.
1. Had 4.4.2
2.Flashed stock recovery (I forgot to do fastboot oem lock)
3.Booted back into 4.4.2, ran update checker, downloaded 4.4.3
4.Phone updated to 4.4.3 with no issue.
5. Ran update checker again to grab 4.4.4
6.Rebooted to install and bam on boot I just got the white "HTC" boot screen for about an hour
OS is broke.
I do still have access via fastboot and have since re flashed recovery to twrp. However I am unable to flash a new rom, I keep getting "E error executing updater binary in zip" in twrp and "status 7" in clockwork.
Sideloads fail with the same error.
I've also tried re-locking the phone and flashing stock recovery and trying HTC's RUU app however that fails as well with Error 553.
Any help is much appreciated! My goal is just to have clean lollipop gpe rom installed.
What can I do to fix this?

Did you flash a different radio/baseband as part of this?
Are you S-OFF?
I am S off. I hadn't flashed a new radio. I found my fix. I think i inadvertantly wiped my data from the internal sd. That was throwing me off. I managed to get back to CM11. I still can't read any data on my ext SD, but at least my phone is on and stabilized. Thanks for replying!! Happy holidays!

If you're trying to flash the RUU ZIP you HAVE to use htc_fastboot.exe as the Google fastboot file can't flash the ZIP. You can get it here (I pulled it from the latest EU RUU)
at the moment i'm flashing from SD card, that finds that file automatically. my CID is 111111
When my network reception disappeared i was listening to spottily din't do anything to the phone and din't install anything that required Root for 3-4 weeks, not sure what happened
So tried that method still no luck, hopefuly they will take it in warranty
Post your fastboot getvar all (minus serial no. & imei no.)
I believe you need x.xx.771.x ROM and firmware version because your device is H3G, and I have all versions x.xx.771.x backups

You need SuperSU installed to run that lock command
If you still have TWRP installed (not sure about other custom recovery), you can boot to recovery then run that command while in recovery (this way you don't need SuperSU installed)
just run adb shell
then that echo part
(only two commands)

With this EU WWE details, I don't know whether Three UK will accept your device under warranty ... someone else need to advise you as I'm not familiar with that region.
In my region ... if I have other Asia ROM even with LOCKED & S-ON status, they still cannot accept because the IMEI is registered under ASIA WWE which is x.xx.707.x
I'm in recovery now, but trying and getting this: error: device not found
Just to double check in bootloader i just select Recovery? or wait does it have to be Unofficial Recovery or HTC one?
This phone is going in HTC not Three so dont think that should cause any problems?
Sorted thanks, my device was showing Relocked so had to unlock it again. but now it shows Locket, now just need to get SD card and reinstall system, and send it to HTC only thing i have is S-Off so hope HTC wont be picky about this, because when i spoke to Support staff he did mention that unlocked bootloader will void warranty so not sure how to take on this

I'm having a problem being able to launch apps on my One M8 ATT... I Don't have any apps on my home page and ATT Ready2Go keeps crashing on me. Can someone give me a command line so I can launch SunShine on my device through ADB, that way I can S-Off and go back to a different ROM.
Why would you need s-off to install a different rom ?

The phone won't allow me to install anything through an RUU. Every RUU I've tried fails with a 155 Reason (Incorrect RUU) and shows "Loading zip file fail!" in the bootloader. A friend of mine has been working on it, got SunShine installed on the phone. But we want to run it to get the phone in to S-OFF. I'm not too savvy with ABD and that's what he's been using to talk to the phone. I also can't transfer items to the phone via USB even though I have drivers and MTP is running. The phone is a mess and I'm trying to avoid sending to HTC to restore it ($$$$$), or just telling my carrier that I "lost" it and pay the deductible to get a new one. Feels like I'm really close to fixing the phone, just not quite there yet.
If you know of a ROM I could try to flash, I'll give it a shot. I'm running out of options and time. Before I just get a new phone. My friend has helped me out a lot, but it's just not quite there yet.

You need to relock your bootloader in order to run an RUU while you are S-On.
In fastboot: fastboot oem lock
Then run the proper RUU again.
I'd link you to the proper RUU, but you haven't given enough info.
In fastboot: fastboot getvar all and post the results minus your IMEI and ser# (private information), unless you already know what the proper RUU to run is already.

Not sure what you can tell from this, but I'll wait for a response before I do anything else. I'd also like to get the recent version of TWRP and SuperSU on here as well. Once it's up and running/stable. And.. this may be a dumb question, but I can unlock the bootloader again once I get an RUU to work successfully, right? (getting ahead of myself, I know)

The RUU you need can be found here.
Scroll down to the Manual System Update Instructions, and read them. The RUU download is at the end of the instructions.
You can unlock the bootloader again through HTCDev.com. After you are unlocked, flash TWRP from here in fastboot, then use that recovery to flash SuperSU from here.

I can NOT appreciate and thank you for your assistance in this! I went ahead and locked the bootloader and restored the original image with the RUU you linked me to, yesterday. Couldn't wait to try, haha. I had to sweet talk the HTC Live Chat person to tell me if I could use the RUU for the same software version as I had. Phone has been working like a champ. I'm gonna give it another day or two to settle in, do a few backups just in-case the flash doesn't go well.
I will definitely unlock the bootloader again and flash TWRP and SuperSU. But I imagine going S-OFF is just off the table right now since I'm a bit stripped of funds. I can afford it, haha, but my funds are already allocated towards adulting and such.
Again, THANK you for the support! This has been a learning experience.:good::good::good::good::good:

My HTC One M8 is secondhand and Ive had it for about 1.5 years now. the other day it crashed and ended up in a boot loop. i have tried lots of stuff but to no help. is there a way i can load stuff on to the sd card to fix it. on two occations it has got to the setup screen but errors would not let me type wifi password so had to hard reset.
ive tried hard reset
ive tried recovery
ive tried wipecache/factory reset
ive tried factory reset......seemed to work on two occations but on setup came back with sense input error and google error.
the phone had all the newest updates and was unlocked to any network.
on bootlader its says....SOFTWARE STATUS MODIFIED
LOCKED
SECURITY WARNING
THEN LOTS OF GREEN WRITING.
any help would be great. thanks

You can follow this post instruction ( skip the part of relocking bootloader )
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64926626&postcount=6
easy way :
Download the RUU.zip from the linked post and rename it to 0P6BIMG.zip then put it in your external sd card root and reboot to bootloader ( hboot )
It will ask you to update confirm it and wait for a few minutes till it finish and ask you to reboot, that's it

Bootloader info is great. But if you are asking for help, you really need to tell us more about what is going on with the phone. I gather from the subject of the thread, that your device is stuck in bootloader. But how did it get to that state? Did it just happen spontaneously (while using the phone, or when you tried to turn the screen on after idle for a while, etc.?). Or were you trying to do something, like unlock bootloader, install custom recovery TWRP, root, flash custom ROM, etc. Or some other function, like install an OTA update? If trying to flash something, provide exact details like version numbers, file names; as well as exactly what happened when you tried to install (changes to status of phone, error messages, etc.).
Have you tried anything so far to resolve the problem? If so, describe exactly what you tried, again with any applicable file names, version numbers, and outcomes (error messages, etc.).
The more specific details you provide, the better we can help you.
Stuck can't get phone to connect to PC
Hi, I have an HTC One M8 which I just got secondhand, it's stuck on bootloader screen, usual messages ('modified' 'locked' etc)... I followed the instructions for RUU flash on other posts and am all set to go, but annoyingly my phone will not connect to any PC I use....I have installed the drivers etc...I am well used to using ADB, just can't get the phone to be recognised.
I also can't boot into recovery, just ends up back in the bootloader screen again. If it does try and boot it hangs at the logo screen....
Would welcome some ideas on where to go next....

adb won't work in bootloader mode, by definition. You want fastboot for running RUU, which is related to adb, but with important differences.
As long as you are in bootloader-fastboot mode (fastboot is highlighted near the top of the bootloader screen) which is often default if phone is connected by USB, you should be able to use fastboot. Try the command:
fastboot devices
And as long as the phone's ID is returned, you should be good to go.
If the command just results in "waiting for response" or an error, try a different USB cable, or a different USB port on your PC.
Still no go... Tried connecting on different ports and with different cables but just doesn't seem to work. Best I've managed is with the Aruuwizard tool which seemed to connect but I couldn't get much further. If I run fast boot devices it returns no device... Just a blank line....
Hello. I have a similar problem with my HTC One Mini. It's stuck in fastboot mode and trying to reboot/boot into recovery or factory reset does nothing...goes black for a sec and then back to fastboot mode. Bootloader is unlocked and it's S-ON. Any help much appreciated! Cheers!

HTC m8 phone keeps booting into fastboot mode

hello,
after root my phone
every time i try to put it in recovery mode it goes back to fastboot mode ..
even if i tried to flash a recovery on it , it would boot to fastboot mode
even when trying to install a official htc software update it just boots into fastboot ..
now i want to get it back to stock..
please help me !!
Need more info.
What version SuperSU? What version TWRP?
What "official update" file did you use? Was it an OTA or an RUU (list the exact file name)?
Also, do fastoboot getvar all, and post the results (delete IMEI and serial number before posting).

In addition to the fastboot output, I asked 4 questions, none of which you answered.
You have the M8 eye, not the "standard" M8. Far as I can tell (not many folks on xda have the "eye") you need a special version of TWRP for this version. You can try the right version TWRP, and flash SUperSU again, see if that helps. No idea if this version TWRP will work on not (can't personally vouch for it): https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/general/m8-eye-recovery-root-t3159648
Depending on what you did to the phone by flashing the wrong TWRP, it's hard to tell what the proper way to proceed.

hi
can i have stock recovery download link in that phone pls
I have a similar issue, but with a standard M8
£10 off ebay, so not expecting ,much (also means no known history) . 1 week old noob reading here and flashing phones
1) only boots to fastboot, and even does this when you leave it powered off, but charging.
2) select hboot, then to recovery, recovery doesn't run, just resets back to fastboot eventually, after screen goes white not black.
3) can partially speak to phone in fastbook and get versions ok (included below)
Getver all as below:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot>

5) tried RUU.exe - fails with usb error after it tries to restart bootloader
6) tried ruu.zip from memory card - fails with partition update fail
7) tried fastboot recovery image 6.12.401.4 and it fails to write - error is 'remote:signature verify fail'
8) random google lead me to fastboot oem reboot RUU which does this:
E:\android tools>fastboot oem rebootRUU

aim is to get a standard phone working again

4) never been able to boot to full o/s so not in developer mode, so cant get response in adb (and dont know how to use this anyway) That is correct, you will not be able to use adb unless you can boot to OS or alternately TWRP custom recovery. So you are basically limited to fastboot in the current condition.
5) tried RUU.exe - fails with usb error after it tries to restart bootloader There isn't a valid exe format RUU for your version number (6.12.401.4) so you are probably using the wrong RUU. What is the version number or file name for the RUU.exe?
6) tried ruu.zip from memory card - fails with partition update fail Exactly what partition(s) is it failing to update? What is the version RUU you are using? The only valid one for your version would be the RUU.zip from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64926626&postcount=6
7) tried fastboot recovery image 6.12.401.4 and it fails to write - error is 'remote:signature verify fail' You can't flash an unsigned recovery image, unless the bootloader is unlocked. It also seems you are trying to flash stock recovery, and I don't see how that is going to help your current condition.

I think your best bet right now, is to try the correct RUU.zip which I linked above.
