[Q] Help with APN settings - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I want to start off by saying sorry for posting with a new account, I know that is frowned upon on forums, but I need help with a phone that isn't even mine and I've been trying to figure this out for a week now. I've searched everywhere and I figured it's time to ask the experts. Here's the story.
So my girlfriend got a Samsung Galaxy S3 (previously on T-mobile, model number T999) used and got a Straight Talk plan. I put in an APN for Straight Talk and everything was hunky dory. She didn't like the battery life so I rooted the phone and put cyanogen mod 11 on it (which is really friggin cool, so happy I did that) but it didn't save the APN settings. This is where I'm a dumbass. I didn't write down the settings and I didn't back up the phone (she doesn't have anything on the phone worth restoring, or so I thought, those precious APN settings were there) so now I'm trying to find the new APN settings. Everyone has a different set that worked for them, I can't get any of them to work. I know that the MCC is 310, but I don't know if the MNC is 410, or 260 (I believe it is 260 because that is a T-mobile MNC) if you don't have the proper numbers then it won't even save the APN settings. I have yet to get any settings to actually save which is very frustrating. Any suggestions?

I thought Straight Talk was an AT&T mvno.

I believe it is both. They use towers from Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile. I think that whatever your phone was on originally is the set of towers that it uses. I've seen APN settings with 410 and 260. IIRC 260 was the MNC that worked before.

There are posts all over xda that have apn settings. Best I can say is to search them out and try them.
It could be a cm issue though. They updated their radio files to work with kk modems and its caused lots of problems for people who have older ones.

Please help - 4G issues - AT&T S3

So I am now on my second replacement phone. With the first phone my proximity sensor and brightness sensor wasn't working, now I believe I may have radio issues.
I have been searching and have seen mostly wifi issues but no 4G issues. I'm experiencing both and nothing here seems to help.
With my 4G ( LTE here yet) it will say it's connected with 3 or 4 bars but will not pull or push data. The 4G icon gets to work but the browser sends back an error saying that it's not connected when I of course have decent service and can still text and call. Of course turning wifi on fixes the issues but then the wifi continues to disconnect and reconnect etc.
It does this on stock, and the insomnia rom.
I've tried flashing the different official radios also with no luck.
I've dealt with different tiers of AT&T technical support twice for the replacement and current, they said my imei number was incorrect (for both) and a few settings since I ported from T-Mobile (They even entered my phone number wrong during the porting at AT&T), the AT&T guy did a few things over the phone and it sped up my data which was incredibly slow at first but still had the random connected no push pull data issue which requires me to restart my phone or when that doesn't work a battery pull. This happens multiple times throughout the day.
Also no service outages in my area as said by AT&T They will call me back tomorrow to waste another 3 hours of my day with worthless troubleshooting.
Should I go back to AT&T label this as another DoA and try another S3 device?
Is there a simple fix?
Could someone point me in the right direction please!
I'm still in my 30 day return period and if the quality of experience doesn't improve for me with AT&T I would like to just get the T-Mobile version, I don't have much time left though so please help!
Thanks,
Mars
Seems to be data issues that involve flashing ROMs.
Did lte work before you flash and rooted the gs3

Well I flashed my a rom on to my S3 for the first time today to see if it would help but it seemed to make things worse and when I did get data to finally work it was very slow So i switched back to stock. This was even happening a bit before I rooted

just received my replacement and the phone is functioning correctly. They gave me a new sim card also. The phone is noticeably faster data as well basic usage. Will report back. Not sure if it was the phone or my SIM though
I had the same issue.. I could talk and text but no data. I called customer service and the guy noticed I didn't use the lte SIM that came with the phone. Apparently you MUST use the lte SIM! Hope this helps!

did you have no data? or would you have random hang ups.. like it shows that you have 4G but it doesn't push or pull data?
Have you tried APN settings
Have you tried adjusting your APN settings? It can be an issue more so when flashing ROMS. I had that issue as well when I first got my phone.... Most of the time they will set by default but sometimes...not nav to settings>more settings>mobile networks>access point names and set it with these settings
Name: AT&T PTA

MMS proxy: ***proxy.mobile.att.net***

APN type: internet+mms
Take out the *** under MMSC and MMS, Im new to posting and they wont let me post what they think is an outside link, leave everything else as is/blank and see if that helps.
Also if your not on stock rom try fixing premissions in CWM
on APN type: I've got this: default, supl, mms . I don't have 'internet'. I've also seen 'hipri' in APN settings before, on my older devices I had rooted and flashed (running stock ATM, just got the phone a couple days ago and trying to see how much I actually used root).
Default, supl, mms is actually fine... that should be a working APN I just saw someone had internet+mms and could not change it so wanted to make sure. When you rooted did you flash a recovery like CWM?

T-mobile to work on ATT

Hi,
I spent last night getting my t-mobile galaxy s4 to work on ATT. I did a lot of research on the subject and it wasn't that difficult at all. I bought the phone off of EBAY.
I was able to accomplish this from all of the tools here and a little research.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2335109 (hopefully fixed link)
The first thing i did was root the phone and install CWM. I then used the sim unlock found in the link above. The next step i took (because i like custom roms on my phone) was to install TASK650's AOKP rom. I flashed the rom and followed his instructions.
After the restart, I went through the welcome screen and shut the phone down. I put my sim in and started the phone. I noticed i was getting the H, but no LTE. This led me to more research. The fix was easy once I found it. The APN needs to be pointed to the ATT phone option. It defaults to wap.cingular. After about 5 minutes and a reboot the LTE appeared and after the speed tests confirmed.
This is not a guide. I am just sharing my experience. If you do this please do your own research as you can do damage to your phone. There are risks involved, flash and modify your phone at your own risk.
Why are you posting the same thing here that you did in the att area?
actually i'm thankful that he posted it. I'm trying to accomplish the same thing and its good to know it works. I tried the unlock sim procedure and it didn't work, although I didn't follow the newer instructions, so I will try again.
also, your link seems to be broke
Guess if you post the same thing everywhere you may get an answer. New concept. I'm gonna remember that.

Best bet is to ignore the search function and post any and all questions you have, no matter the topic, wherever you please. Makes this forum so easy to navigate and n00b friendly.

This is exactly why these forums go to sh$$
Obviously you did not read the rules, peeps like this need a week ban from this site until you understand the rules.

Sarcasm doesn't go through text very well.. :\ I wasn't actually being serious. Check my posting history, I've been flamed for telling someone to do their own research... I've caught crap for recommending someone to, at the very least, use an already established thread on the subject to ask their question which has been asked a thousand times... but meh.

you can also do a speed test and check if you are getting LTE speeds.

The AT&T APN's I have used in the past with success to get LTE are:
Name: ATT LTE
APN: pta
MMSC: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
MMS proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
MMS port: 80
MC: 310
MNC: 410
APN type: default,supl,mms
For the "phone" APN, just replace "pta" with "phone". The other values should be the same; although I never got LTE/4G with that APN.
Things not listed are "not set"

Are you certain you're in an LTE area? I pulled those straight off the phone I was using prior to getting the S4; and I was getting LTE..
Ohh, one other thing, not sure if it applies, but still... depending on what kind of phone you are coming from, you may have to call AT&T and have them tweak your data plan. I've seen reports that when coming from an iPhone to Android, you will still be on the iPhone data plan and unable to receive 4G/LTE.
Yes I am in a lte area I used to get it with my iphone all the time then I switched to a s3 changed the plan and got it with that now I have an unlocked s4 through tmobile
A buddy of mine works for at&t so tomorrow hes gonna give me the stock apn settings from an s4 so ill try it out

I really appreciate you creating this thread. It helped me out a lot. just ignore the trolls as they are of no value.
Thanks to your thread and a little searching i too was able to get everything working. I moved to tmobile from att just to find out service in my area was very bad. Switched back to ATT and brought my tmobile galaxy s4 and everything works great. using paranoid android rom from tmobile forums and works perfect on ATT with LTE.

FIXED! - No LTE

Hey guys. I'm kinda stuck here. I am getting no LTE service on my phone at all. Of course those idiots at straight talk keep saying im provisioned for it but nope, not getting it. I tried everything I can think of from factory resetting to apn settings and nothing. When I go into my network it bounces between HSAP and HSPAP but no LTE. I live in an LTE service area and was getting LTE up to about a week ago but then suddenly it was gone. Any ideas as to what I can do?
Can ask what are your APN settings?

I don't understand what's goin on. It just doesn't work anymore for some reason. And ST troubleshooting is non existent. All they tell you is to put in those apn settings and it should work. Well it isn't dumbasses!....lol
Also port :80 . I have straight talk too. Your apn looks right
My wife has the Optimus g and her LTE is working just fine. WITH the same APN settings! The last thing I remember doing was going through the hidden service menu but I didn't change anything in there. There is nothing you can change in there to make your LTE stop working. I know with some phones you can but not with the OGP.

Ok guys. I got the issue resolved. I used this method here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2351041
The only issue I had was for some reason I couldn't manually edit the build.prop. I had to install JRummies Rom Toolbox Lite and that did the trick. It's so nice to have my LTE back!
Thanks for the link. Always liked to manually set to 2g or 4g when lte was weak. One reason I always installed custom roms and didn't stick to stock.

Personally I don't worry too much about it. Being on stock with this phone gets great battery life. So no need to turn off the LTE to conserve battery.

Galaxy S4 4.4.2 NB4 won't send MMS or receive em =/

I got this phone for my dad, as he had this old crappy phone for years and overpaid for his cell bill every month for minute plan lol i know.
So i got him this Galaxy s4-m919 model to find out that it was upgraded as part of a plan, then the person claimed it they lost it to sell it to another person, and ofc they wouldn't refund me.
So i took another path and came on here to get help, ofc it was a T-mobile phone, so I guess i'm blacklisted on t-mobile networks, but i flashed to 4.3 modem, did sim unlock, then flashed back to 4.2.2.
Put in my new Att sim card, and service has worked ever since, the lame part is now he wants to use MMS, and it keeps on failing to send/receive, when he recieve a mms from someone, it comes up as a huge ass url(you have to click it to see the picture in the browser or w.e, but never ever loads rofl, idk y.)
He doesn't use any apps, he just uses it for calling, internet at times, navigation, wants to use MMS, takes pictures/video, etc. But MMS doesn't work, I ever called the H2O to help me, and they said that i needed to change my "Message Center #" for it to work, seriously? My other phone has "+12063130004", and my dad's is "+13123149810", i think H2O rep wanted me to change it to the # my other phone has which is the first number i listed. Is this really the care? If so, how can I change it? =/
First thing to check, in my opinion, is to see if all the APN options are set correctly. Settings \ Mobile Network \ <more> APN Settings will usually get you there. The ATT APN settings can be found here but you may need to search around if H2O requires different ones. I'm on standard ATT and the settings at that link work for me, with my M919 phone.
Good luck!

Just tried ATT Phone APN settings, and my internet nor MMS work; yeah H2O has a bit different settings then att.
They're:
name: h2ointernet (doesn't do anything but eh)
APN: att.mvno
proxy: not set
port: not set
server: not set
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingurlar.com
Multimedia message proxy: 66.209.11.33
Multimedia message port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication type: not set
APN type: *
APN roaming protocol: IPv4
Turn APN on/off: on
Mobile virtual network operator type: none
I also saw somewhere that you can hook up your phone to the computer and change the Message Center # using Root Explorer(just re-read the post on xda about this and u have to have it rooted =/), then 'SilverEdit' to edit the xml to enter the message center number?( also heard it wasn't permanent either, if u turned it off, or battery died or w.e. it would revert to the previous #, not sure tho) Not sure what to do here. The internet works fine, but H2O rep says i need to change my Message center number to a different one for mms to work. Also tried changing default msging app to hangouts and sending a mms, and it came up with " mobile plan blocks MMS." I also put his sim card into my working phone, and ofc the message center # was the same when i switched it over to my phone and ofc it won't send, says "mms not supported by network, service response error"
Anyone?
Can anyone help me with "Message Center"? My MMS doesn't work, can't send or receive(when i receive an mms, it comes as a big ass url something like "viewmymessage.com/webgui/bla bla/ bla bla/ and so on/", can't open the link on the phone.
If you have AT&T service on a t-mobile phone it needs to be unlocked. He is using it to call people, so I guess it is. You should try flashing an AT&T modem.
Before that, try making your APN type: IPv4 or IPv6. And MM message proxy:0
I'l try that, just put in my H2O settings: APN type: IPv4 or IPv6. And MM message proxy:0; Can't try atm, as for some reason his data went down to 0, even tho he wasn't even using internet for anything on his phone...which was weird. The way I unlocked this phone was flashing the 4.2.2. modem, then went thru "service mode" and did step by step. If the Apn settings you gave, wouldn't work, would flashing the att modem 100% work(got link for the modem, cba to find it atm, last time if flashed it, i used odin)? I'm on 4.4.2 Android version, Baseband: m919uvufnb4.

You're with AT&T on a Tmobile phone right? You should still need to have an AT&T modem. In the slot where it says "APN type", put it as IPv4 and the slot below "APN type", put it as IPv4, also. But non of that is worth trying if you are using AT&T service. You need AT&T modem and APN settings.
Edit: I was watching a movie and read you comment wrong lol. Yes you need to flash AT&T modem and APN

Off-topic, if you flash to att modem and you already unlocked your phone or w.e., nothing gets effected, once unlocked, stays unlocked eh?

Actually, be careful with this. The modem (which is two parts) has to be paired with the phone model. For example, an M919 can't use the modem from an I337. The Modem runs the radio hardware, which varies by phone. ATT & T-Mo variants have different antennae bands supported, so need somewhat different radios. I'm not sure if trying a different radio will brick anything, but numerous threads have said it doesn't work. The modem consists of the modem.bin (the "GSM Modem") which can be flashed at will, and the non-hlos.bin ("LTE Modem")which needs to be paired with the phone bootloader, or else chaos ensues.
You DO need the right APN settings. Unfortunately, I have no experience with the message center thing... can't help there.

Your phone will still be unlocked regardless. Try to change the APN setting to AT&T first. Like Frankenscript said, both phones have different radios so changing the modem might not work.

I seen people say it works and others say it didn't. Nothing about bricking the phone tho but I do understand what you are saying.
I tried ATT settings, didnt work. I put on H20 settings that were on the site, didn't work. Tried my bros H2O settings that he got from chat rep on their site, then 4G started working, but I keep getting "Mms failed, server error" or w.e. keeps failing, put the H2O internet settings(on), and mms settings. Not sure if his phone is missing something or because his phone is blocked on tmobile's networks, his using H2O meaning his on ATT's network.(i bought him a cheap 1$ mirco-sim, off ebay) Not sure if that plays any role, the calls are good, dats works now, etc, just mms wouldn't work. Suggestions? Some1 on H2Os rep side said it could be the "message center #", that's y it can't be sent or receive or w.e.(His is atts message center #, and its greyed out"
Anyone know how to fix mms problem?(cant receive or send atm, tried a lot of things). Mms keep failing, server error, not supported by network or w.e., lost on wut else to do.
Anyone?

This is the root of your problem, buying stuff from other people, it's probably stolen.
Throw it away and go buy a new phone from Att and this issue will go away.
Somethings fishy here.

Cell 4 sale store was selling it, not just a random person. I guess they probably either do it themselves ir buy it from ppl who do it.(upgrade their phone to gs4 or w.e. then claim it lost or stolen, thus keeping their old one and selling the new one) I think they probably flashed it to work for internation, but idk, might've been rooted before 4.4.2, since ota got installed, means root is gone. Anyway to fix the problem instead of just replying with a negative reply? I want to use the phone, calling etc works fine everywhere, 4g is a bit in some places, mms doesnt work at all, one rep at h2o said it might be cuz of message center number, he wanted me to change it to a diff one and see if it solves it or not, but my message center is greyed out.
Apparently there is something wrong with it, at least you should be able to get it replaced for one that works. It could be a build.prop issue. Just guessing.
Pp. Good luck.
Still looking for a solution, anything I could try, to fix Mms to work again?(cant send or receive as it says "server error", failed mms, etc)

[Q] mms working with Cricket?

I've followed most of this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-phone/help/guide-fire-phone-fireos-google-apps-t3206603) along with updating to 4.6.6, to set up my fire phone, and almost everything is working. I've activated the phone with a Cricket sim, and I can get internet and sms fine. I still can't get mms to send or receive. I've tried several different APN settings from the Cricket website and others. I've tried using the stock messaging app as well as handcent.
Is anyone else using Cricket with their fire phone and able to send/rec mms? If so, what are your APN settings?
My wife's fire phone is working with Cricket, including MMS. I think Cricket takes up to 24 hours to re-reoute SMS/MMS correctly. Maybe give it a day and see if it fixes itself.

So it does work. That's good news. Turns out my wife's BLU phone doesn't work either. It's been over a week since she switched. Would you mind looking at the APN settings and telling me if they match these (taken from https://www.cricketwireless.com/sup...e-byod/customer/bring-your-own-android.html):
Name: Internet
APN: ndo
Proxy: Not Set
Port: Not Set
Username: Not Set
Password: Not Set
Server: Not Set
MMSC: http://mmsc.aiowireless.net
MMS Proxy: proxy.aiowireless.net
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 150
Authentication type: Not Set APN type: default, mms, fota, hipri, supl
Thanks
I would have to wait until tonight to check her phone, but my Nexus 5 is working with those APN settings.
Well, it turns out the fire phone is set to use the AT&T APN. The Cricket APN is there on the phone, but the AT&T one is selected. And everything is working fine on her phone.
Here is a thread from howardforums that describes this same situation.

Also, I neglected to mention that I use Google Voice, so all my SMS/MMS gets routed as data. Which is why I thought the Cricket APN worked for my Nexus 5.

Yeah, thanks. I've tried all the settings on that thread. No joy. Maybe it's something wrong with my account since all four phones have the same problem
After u create APN are you setting the apn, I believe u click save and select, I missed that the first time around

Thank you more times than I could ever say! I have a carrier unlocked LG H830 (G5), and have spent more hours than I'd like to admit trying to get outgoing MMS to work on Cricket Wireless. You name it, I've tried it. I would never EVER have thought to change the Network Mode. That fixed it. Granted, instead of showing "LTE", it's now showing 4G (3.5G), and my data speed down is about 5MB, but Cricket throttles the down speeds anyway. And, at home on Wifi, it doesn't matter anyway. So again, thank you!
For the purposes of future Google searchers:
For outgoing MMS to work on a carrier unlocked LG H830 (LG G5), the Network Mode must be set to GSM/WCDMA.
Regards,
Mark
