I don't take credit for the video but I found THIS low profile car mount that's made for the iPhone and works just as well for the EVO. HERE it is at Amazon.
i really like this! it looks classy. plus the phone seems more secure in the cradle then in some of the other car-mount solutions i've seen. thanks for pointing this out!
I'm going to pick one up on payday and I'll see how good it is and give a report back.

I've had that one for a while. Very nice.
My only complaint is that in portrait mode I have knocked the phone out of it a couple times. It's plenty solid, it's just not that hard to flip the phone out of it.
Do you guys think there's any chance an Evo with the Seidio Innocase Active would fit in this?

The video has a quote that says it should work with thinner cases but not thick ones. I personally have a carbon fiber skin on mine and I'm pretty sure it will work as the guy in the video, his phone is naked. I don't know what differentiates a thick from a thin case but you could always order it and if it doesn't fit you could just say it doesn't fit and return it, but then you would have to eat the shipping cost. Your guess is as good as mine. Maybe someone will come on here that has a thick case and give his thoughts on the matter. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
Cheers...
EDIT: There is a comment below the video that say:
Unfortunately it does no work with one of those rubber-like cases. I tried with the one manufactured/distributed by HTC for the Evo and it would not fit in mount. There is still a slight chance that if it was in a thin hard case it might work.

Wow, finally installed this in my wife's Mazda 3 (vent mount) and it just rocks. Super sturdy in either portrait or landscape, easy to snap the EVO in and out. Thanks a bunch to the OP for the tip. Hard to beat this one for the quality, ease of use, and price.
I love this car mount, thanks for the tip.
Good to know guys. Now I'm going to order one. Thanks

Nice find. Thanks.
just ordered mine off Buy.com can't wait to get it.
main reason i want one is because it's a pain in the ass to hear my ringtone in a jeep with the top and doors off. it would be nice to see a call come in while driving.
Terax XWAY. Strong enough magnet to hold into the phone even with the ridiculous spension setup I have in my Integra. I love using it, and it's completely portable, like throw it in your pocket, take 5sec to put in in another car, and go.

Only vent mountable. There seems to be no goose neck for the windshield. This would not serve my purpose. Plus it seems a little bulky compared to the Kingston. It is also more expensive than the Kingston. No thanks... I'll stick with the Kingston.

And it would mess with the compass apps and we'd have to stick something on the Evo
Just thought I'd chime in and report how it works with the Seidio Innocase Surface II.
The phone with case on fits fine. The issue is because of the added 2-3 mm of thickness and the smooth feel of the Innocase, it makes it infinitely easier for the phone to slip out of the mount. I haven't had it fall out on me since I always keep my phone in the landscape position while in my car but it will slip if you drive over bumps while its in portrait.
I'm looking into getting some kind of rubber tape so I can make the grip the mount has on the phone a bit more tacky.
I finally ordered this mount and when I get it I'll see about doing a small video review so as to let everyone know what it's like. It's made for the iPhone and wouldn't you know it, EVO is stealin' the show once again. LOL Man I like my EVO. It's such a kick ass phone. Now with an awesome low profile car mount I can finally use it with Google Navigation point-to-point and not have to keep looking down at it while it's laying on the passenger seat.
Cheers...

I am assuming the Seidio 3500mah battery won't fit in this? Anyone?
I just had a tinkering revelation and ended up making something in 30 seconds that i have been looking for for weeks.
Originally inspired by the car dock epoplive made as well as khaaan on Overclockers UK forums, I cut out the intermediary step of finding a case that the phone can snap in and out of easily. I ordered a suction cup mount for a Garmin Nuvi 205 off ebay for $4:
cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270626403250&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_2572wt_1137
When I got it this afternoon, I took a look at the clip that is meant to hold the Garmin unit and thought that it looked quite close to the dimensions of the Captivate. Holding the phone in it, it was about 1/2" - 3/4" too wide. So I simply took a lighter, slowly and gently heated up the corners of the clip, and bent them slightly inwards. Out of luck, my guesswork bending resulted in a perfect fit. I added some thin sticky-back foam strips to make the fit more secure, and that's it!
The phone snaps in with purpose and is held in place even as I flail about testing it. It looks super clean, works well, was easy to make and cost a total of $4.
(The pictures were taken with my old E71x; when I find the charger for my point-and-shoot, I can get some better quality pictures up.)

Enjoy! I am happy to hear any criticism, answer and questions, etc.!
Nice! I'm doing one too!
Great mount.
I think you did a great job. I've been looking for one for a while. What if you have a silicon case? Would it still lock?
If so, you wouldn't need the foam.

That was one of my first thoughts. I just returned my bodyglove case, but it seems like it would work just as well, you will just need to bend the clip just a little bit less to compensate. One thing I should tell you, you may need to modify the clip in such a way that the ridges that hold the device are further *out* to compensate for the added depth of a silicon case too.
Nice! Good job.
Nice! I may have to go get a new car clip to try this. It's kind of funny, because the first thing I thought about the clip was 'Boy, this sure is close to the size of the phone, if only it was just a bit smaller'.
Does the phone stay in when you rotate it?
Yes! I just drive for about a half hour on back roads with the phone in portrait and it didn't move one bit. Did you see my "flail test" video?
awesome!
Exactly what I was looking for.
I'm interested to see if someone gets this working with the bodyglove silicone case...

So is ebay out of the question for you? There are plenty for sub-$3 on there.
I looked at Staples a couple weeks ago and they have just the ball joint and suction cup (no actual clip) for I think $14.99 - outrageous.
Awesome! I just order two. Thanks for the tip!
Does this scratch the sides at all from being clipped in and out so often or did you put foam on the clips where the phone would touch as well?
just ordered one... think i will pop off the ball joint and drill a screw through the center and attach to my pivoting blackberry 9700 proclipusa mount in my car. That way i got the pivot and it is mounted and not on the glass.
will update with pictures... will probably still order the proclip when it is released...
Surprisingly enough, it is out of the question. I've no credit card. With amazon i can use a coinstar to create gift cards. And in person i can use cash or a check.

No foam on the clips. The plastic is smooth, since it is where the gps would clip in. I don't see any trace of damage in the phone (and believe me, I would notice. Still babying this phone)

Does it work in a hot car? Similar mounts in UK, don't do well if they sit in the sun.
I have the car version that clips into the vent, and I love it !! holds the phone very securely, and yet easy to remove.... No residue at all.... don't know about it sitting out in the sun, haven't gotten too much of that lately here !
Any idea if it will work with the Body Glove?
Not sure what the Body Glove case is made of, but the instructions say it won't stick to either leather or silicone...

Cell phone Grip is totally fine.
But they made the neck(?) part with plastic so it loosen when u leave it in the car under the sun..
I think they'd should make it with metal or put a screw thing for tight it.

my review of it
Hi, yep I've got this case, its actually not that bad.
the best thing is that it is very comfortable to hold.
the grip on it is good. its cut outs are good, headphone jack cut out is good, but I would prefer if it was a bit bigger.
all other cut outs are perfect apart from the speaker ones which covers only a very small amount of the top of the speaker, but is not a problem.
here are a few pics.
sorry for the poor quality of pics, I was using my v. old nokia 5800.
Thanks.
I am going to be getting one and posting a review and video review for it.

I have the Androidified Case and love it! It's super comfy (like the guy above me said) and it's just made to be easy to use. My only complaint is that the standard usb cable has a difficult time getting to the port due to the design of the case. Simple fix by pulling the piece up, but I don't like putting pressure on the port.

ah that could be an issue indeed. Can't wait to test it. I only got my white case which I hate due to the apple look
i had the same problem regarding the usb, at first i had to force it in due to the way the cut out is, but after two days it seemed that the case just changed its shape and adjusted to allow the usb to fit in without forcing it. which for me I now have no problem with it.
Thanks for the feedback. I will keep it in mind while testing.

Just received two of the cases today but waiting for the third one that has the fancy designs to do it.
So far , I love the looks of the black one with the Android design on the back and inside.
Not too sure about the big area left open for the camera and flash but I will comment about all that when I post it.
Did you receive the last case ? i'm very intrested in it.
You think it still will fit in the pocket of your jeans now it is not so slippery anymore ?

Actually just got the shipping notification so I expect it here in time for a Friday review at least.
Yes it does fit fine and I like that it has extra grip on the sides of the case. That feels better than my previous one which is more slippery.
I will make sure to take enough pictures but so far I like it. I guess the wait is not bad that way I can do a review after a week of using the case to give a better perspective as opposed to a right our of the bag review.
I put my Note in a sock, it fits well, 10$ on ebay and looks not bad.
If i use this Cruzerlite, will i be able to put it in a sock again (maybe a bigger one ?)
Or dont you guys use a sock ? what do you use then ?
Good evening!
I'm in need of some suggestions.
I'd like to get a mount to put my phone in but I'm kind of out of ideas..
Here's where I'm at:
-I don't want a window mount. I've had one fall off and explode my phone before.
-I don't have a CD player so I can't use a CD slot mount.
-A cup holder mount wouldn't work well in a 04 Aveo's cup holder.
-A lighter mount wouldn't work because the cup holder is on top of it.
Otherwise, I have no idea where to mount my phone!
Any ideas/suggestions?
I bought a Kenu Airframe for my current phone (iPhone 5. Waiting for my OPO!). It's a mount that goes onto your air vent. The phone doesn't slip or move at all. I got it on sale. There's an Airframe+ for 5.5 inch screens. I haven't tried the Airframe+, but I suspect it works the same.
Can you let me know if the OPO fits in the original Airframe? People were reporting it working with a Galaxy S4 with a case so it might be close. The vents in my car are vertical, though, so I wonder if it would slip off...

Can confirm, the OPO fits in the original Airframe. Using it with mine, works great.
You can rotate the rubber teeth 360º so it can be used with any vent setup (vertical/horizontal/rotating vents)

I thought this also, but with my HTC One, and now my OPO I wouldn't go anywhere else but Brodit Proclips...they are perfect.
OPO has to use a universal clip, but even that fits than 2-3 other ones I've tried for the OPO.
If you have the cash, give it a go.

I got my Airframe the other day and can confirm that it works just fine with the OPO and my vertical vents.
I have to make sure the direction of the vent is all the way up or it pushes the vent fin out of alignment (requiring me to take the dash apart to fix it!)
It's a little wobbly for my taste but it's better than the phone sitting on the seat next to me!
Thank you guys for the suggestion.

Has anyone found a car mount/dock that has a built in charger and/or audio out? It's kind of a pain to have to hook up the charge cord and audio cord every time I want to put the phone in my car mount. My old Samsung G2 mount was like that. Just plug your charge cord into the mount, as well as your audio cord, then when you slipped the phone in the cradle, it would slide into the usb, start charging and have an audio out signal.
used an airframe for my nexus 5, i didnt like it, due to how it was positioned in my honda civic. it was always diagonal facing away from me.
