soft Bricked [Solved] - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was trying to change my build.prop and got bricked. i tried the volume down+power factory reset. and also the lgflashtool with no avail. i have to old original build.prop saved to my internal memory but no way to acess it. I am on a PC now but will be on a make for the rest of the day and need to get this fixed ASAP.thanks. and if it helps i get the lg splash screen then i see blackness and the colored led is just changing at the top. i also changed the build.prop to the htc m8 one.

Did you try uninstalling drivers, reinstalling them to get flashtool to work?

There is nothing you could have done in just changing the build.prop that would have bricked the phone - it will be recoverable.
Keep trying download mode (remember you need the usb cable in to enter it) and eventually it will work and then you can use Flashtool 2014 to flash a kdz.
Your other option is to try to get the phone to recognise ADB and push the correct image back.

He should have said softbricked, but I agree with you. As long as download mode works, phone is not bricked. Has to be driver, usb, com port, or some other small user error that causes Flashtool not to work.

i need a source to the latest kdz and thr websites
csmg.lgmobile.c om:9002/csmg/b2c/client/auth_model_check2.jsp?esn=
and
lg-firmware-rom.c om/download-firmware.php?f=

[GUIDE] [E980] Fix soft bricks. Flash back to stock using LGFLashTools

I realized there aren't any guides [in English] around here to help rooted folks that soft bricked their LG PRO to restore it back to factory settings. This should be useful if you got your phone stuck on the AT&T or the LG logo. Especially now that we don't have an unlocked bootloader or a recovery to reocver our soft brick.
Anyway, to start, a little disclaimer: I hold no responsibility if this method renders your phone completely useless, or burns and makes some nice fireworks. I'm simply writing this to document the process that worked for me. Use at your own discretion.
Dislcimaer 2: this method will wipe out your internal sdcard, apps data, everything! It'll restore the phone back to the way you got it from AT&T. Might even lose your cell unlock status (not verified). so keep these unlock codes handy just in case.
Note to linux users like myself: get your a** on windows or run it from a VM. VirtualBox with Win7 works fine.
Steps:
Download
1. LGFlashTools v1.5. Anything less won't work. Mirror: HERE
2. DLL file for LGE980
3. Drivers
4. The stock image file
Thanks to IOMonster for hosting these biga** files.
Install
1. Install the LG drivers downloaded above.
2. Install LGFlashTools v1.5 (but don't run it)
3. Extract the DLL and the TOT files from above and put them in a nice tidy directory
Drivers initialization
1. Put the phone into download mode. (Turn off device, keep pressing volume down while plugging in the micro usb cable. If this doesn't work, try holding both volume keys instead)
2. Let the phone initialize and install the drivers. Once done, in Device manager, you should see the LG phone listed under COM ports (something along these lines).
3. Find that LG entry in Device Manager, click on Properties, Advanced and then change the COM port to COM41 and close/save.
4. Unplug your phone! Important step.
LGFlashTools
To get this tool to work, you'll need to do a few tricks.
1. Set the computer's date to some time in July 2012 or before.
2. Disconnect the internet
3. Find a serial number or register key from somewhere on the web (a google search for lgflashtools serial will yield some results). Can't help you here and please don't share any keys in this thread or get us in trouble.
4. Execute the LGFlashTools. It should ask you for a key, put it in. Now you should see a dialog where you can load the DLL file and the TOT files that you extracted earlier. Put them both in here. Click ok
Flashing
5. There is a yellow arrow on the top left. Click on it to initialize the process. Once done, it should say "ready/finished" or whatever.
6. Put the phone in download mode again, and plug it into the USB port. LG FLash Tools should start flashing it automatically. When it's done, it'll automatically reboot into your stock AT&T rom and all of your data and internal sdcard files are gone.
Profit
Thanks again Mac !

Thanks .... great info!!!!!
Nice. Hopefully they sticky this.
Welp, just bricked the phone again but was able to flash the tot... very simple and quick lol ur the man mac
this worked perfectly fine for me. i 1st tried it on w8 but after plugging in the e980 and letting the drivers and such install, it did not show up under com in the device manager. in fact, there was no com section. it did show up under devices and printers and i tried and could not find a com setting there. i went ahead and tried to flash but since i could not change to the proper port, the flash tool never found my e980.
so instead i just did it all on a w7 box, the device was listed under com, and i went along with the flashing.
thank you.
Think this will fix the bricks that are happening when they try to mess around with the bootloader?

My friend just bricked his and the wi9ed the system. I can get ir into download mode for him but thats it. I tried recovery mode but trying to do that or boot regularly it just shows lg the an android with the spinning symbol on it the lg again then lg 2 more times and just stays there. Can this be fixed with only download mode? Again I plugged it in and im not sure its being seen by the computer.
Make sure you have the drivers installed and use pc suite to get back the firmware

it doesn't hurt to try. I'll bet it will because I was left with something similar and this method got me back on stock.

Pc suite? Do you mean lg flash tools? I downloaded it but it wants me to log in to use it. I havent found a log in for it yet.
Download lg pc suite it have lg flash tool in it
Then you search a little in menus for firmware urgence recovery something like that and if it don't work try update in the same menu
And if all of that didn't work I'll find you a link to flash a kdz

I seem to have an issue with my E980, i cant get data my apn directory is empty and cant seem to add an apn it will just not save! anyone else have this issue or know what i can do? thanks!
Reboots to recovery only
Ok, I flashed the recovery in this post using the dd method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=43460298&postcount=208
The value pack was trying to download on my phone and instead of cancel, I pressed install. Now the phone only boots into that recovery. I have everything from the op downloaded, but instead of download mode it only boots into the recovery, any ideas?
When it boots up, It says the following for a couple of seconds:
Code:
Secure booting error
Cause: Device Unlock, so boot success!!
Edit: Got it into download mode by holding down both volume keys and plugging into usb. Thanks!!

Soft/Hard Unbrick (Build.prop, Stuck Stock Recovery, LG Flash Tool Error)

Sorry folks i havent helped here in a bit however I thought for the last 2 weeks I had bricked my lg g2 by modifing the build.prop without fixing its permissions on a stock recovery and lg flash would not flash tot for the love of god, i did much research of this issue and found a fix that was deep within the xda commuinty that i just happen to come across, as ive tried to look for the OR thread i could not find it again. However for you guys who i have recently noticed you believe you have BRICKED you lg on a stock recovery, and the lg flash tool giving you a check dll or model here you go, instead of using the LGLS980_20130904_LGFLASHv151.dll theres a bypass DLL and its all yours (your welcome) i included ALL THE TOOLS you need to unbrick your poor lg g2 (BTW SPRINT YOU SUCK) seems the newer the device the easier it is to brick, the lg g2 cannot be manually put into fastboota nd theres no way to do so unless you have no recovery or messed up the recovery partition from what ive read.
Me coming from a Motorola Xoom which i can not brick for the last 2 years ive been messing around with.
DOWNLOAD TOOLS FOR THIS
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzDugtIyKzTZdHo3WVg4Ti1CWjg/view?usp=sharing
Anyways, follow the guide below.
Unzip spr_lg_g2_unbrick.zip to C:\LG\ then run the Setup_LGFlasHTool_1.8.1.1023.exe, install and leave as is C:\LG\LGFlashTool\
Place the LGUP_8974.dll in the same folder "C:\LG\LGFlashTool" Copy the MegaLock.dll into C:\LG\LGFlashTool\ and overwrite.
1. Make sure the device is POWERED OFF, press vol up and then plug the usb cord into the phone, device should now boot into Download Mode.
2. If you havent already install the driver provided with the zip.
3. Once installed open control panel>>device manager expand Ports (COM & LPT) Double Click on LGE Androidnet USB Serial Port and change this to port 41.
4. Unplug the Device from the PC, and turn the phone off by holding the power button untill the lg screen flashes once.
5. Have your TOT file in the same folder as the installed directory as LG Flash Tool. link to tot, once downloaded unzip the tot is inside: http://storagecow.eu/index.php?dir=Xda%2FLG+G2%2FStock%2FSprint%2F
6. Check "Select Manual Mode" Choose the LGUP_8974.dll and for S/W is your TOT file then select OK.
7. Then moving on, click the green arrow key. after its done with the checking process, grab your LG G2 press and hold the Vol up and plug in your device, this should start restoring your phone, if not then repeat the power down and download mode startup again, I had to do mine twice, but it worked.
Please let me know if this has saved your a$$ because i will tell you it did mine, lol. This is basically if your in any kinda trouble but still have doenload mode this dll is the key to restore AND REMEMBER IF YOU HAVE A ROM USING THE D801 OR T MOBILE PORT DO NOT ACCCEPT OTA'S i already bricked my frist lg g2 by doing so, i have a bricked g 2 in QHCOMM 9008 mode its not paper weight., Good luck to you all

Your boot loader is broken. Gonna have to get to the down load mode and reinstall either the or the stock. You can probably flash the recovery with .IMG file with lg flashing tool. Nerdy blond's twrp is one of those files that you can use. You can even try installing it first with the adb shell command, you can get the instructions at the same place where you download.

Thank you for replying.
I cannot do anythings since I cannot enter into download mode.
I pressed volume key + and - and insert the usb cable to computer. There is nothing happened, computer dose not show the devices attached and the phone stay in the LG logo screen.
Also, I cannot use adb commands to force the phone enters into download mode as it shows nothings under "List of devices".
Is there any methods I can go into the download mode???
Thank you!

If your phone shows LG start screen, it should go into Download mode. I had similar problem few days ago while I was testing some kernel patches, it just froze on the LG screen. Solution was to unplug it, remove it's battery, SIM & SD (you don't have to remove SIM & SD, I just work that way) , make sure it's off, return battery back, press Vol + & Vol - at the same time and plug-in the USB cable.
Before that, make sure you have installed LG Unified driver (can be obtained via LG's software from support site), because without that Windows won't recognise your device.
After that, once you make your phone usable with Freegee/whatever you use to install initial recovery, flash official TWRP, because others are too old - that Philz CWM is old but still working with Lollipop but not work good and is tends to lock itself into a bootloop if you use hardware keys to enter; that other one, from GPRO_recovery APK is not supported and not working well (for me since day one), so it should be replaced as soon as possible.
Also, I can suggest you to flash your phone from stock 4.1 (not KitKat), root, flash recovery via freegee and after reboot update to latest official TWRP via Flashify.

I have tried to reinstall the LG driver and try to enter download mode again.
The screen is still stuck on LG logo and I cannot find the device in hardware manager (cannot recognize it).
I cannot do anythings until it can recognize it.
(Is it the bootloader is broken? and can I fix it?)
Thank you very much and waiting for your reply soon.:good:

Which version of Windows are you using? It should be displayed under Serial ports in Device manager (named something like LGE Serial device) and LGFlashTool should recognise it immediately. I can't make you a screenshot/check for real name because I'm running Linux right now and can't reboot.
Also, try with another cable/port, remove all other android drivers you may have (Samsung's, Google's...) and disable antivirus.

OK, it doesn't enter download mode. So, step by step:
- remove battery and leave it for 15-30 seconds, return battery
- press Vol+ and Vol- at the same time and keep them pressed,
- plug USB cable in while keys are pressed
It should immediately put you into download mode, with no LG screen, just black screen with gray box and red text I've described to you.

So, whatever you try to do, phone just shows LG logo, not even a message in an upper left corner?
I'm running out of ideas. I have exact same variant (E988) but only time it didn't want to enter download mode this way was when cable I was using was broken...

Soft Bricked LG G Pad II 8.0 (LGV498) Wifi only

So I soft bricked my LG G Pad II 8.0 Tablet... Not the worst thing in the world, except that 1.) There seems to be not much at all on the internet as far as stock ROMs or how to guides on fixing my particular tablet. 2.) My computer does not seem to be recognizing my tablet when trying to use ADB, despite having installed all the drivers etc.
My device is stuck in a BootLoop, it will allow me to try a Hard Reset, which is unsuccessful. But it will not go into recovery mode OR Download mode no matter what sequence of the buttons I push and i've scoured the internet trying different button sequences.
My Tablet will charge when plugged into USB, my comp will also go *ding* when i press the power button with the tablet plugged in as if it is reconginzing it and everything. Also Device Manager seems to have it listed with no Exclamation Point or any sign of trouble... Just when I go to use ADB and i search for the device it says *error no device found*
The Tablet just sits there with the LG Logo screen pissing me off more and more as my attempts fail.
I will say USB debugging was not enabled beforehand *cough cough* my mistake
Will reflashing it work by using the MicroSD card method? If that is the only way i will have to just buy one i guess. It did not come with it and it is a Wifi only tablet, no carrier attached.
And if I try the MicroSD method, will it still work without being able to put the tablet into recovery mode?
I believe I have the correct .IMG file for my stock ROM... I just can't seem to get anywhere with flashing it to the device at this point.......
Please Help!

*UPDATE* So I happened to stumble upon a random piece of information that proved REALLY useful in this situation. Someone put in a forum that Lollipop ONLY is detected when plugged into USB 2.0 ports NOT USB 3.0 ports like I was using. So I did this and was able to make my tablet enter into Download Mode FINALLY.... Anyone have any good methods on how to Flash Stock ROM using ADB and a connected soft bricked tablet?
I have already tried a couple methods that I have found and they were unsuccessful. One was using ODIN software and the other was using LG Flash Tool, unfortunately neither worked....

I have bricked lg e988 indonesia firmware rooted,updated to kitkat 4.4.2,cwm 6.4.0.4
Due to some issue I factory reset from settg menu and the phone rebooted to cwm recvry mode
I tried to rebootd to system but fail
I tried to flash stock rom via adb sideload but fail too so does with lg flash tool
So I thght smtg wth cwm then I tried to flash twrp loki 2.6 and then stuck to lg logo only until now
Pls help

If I remember correctly (please check threads here, it's been a long time since I've used this device, so memories are fading), download mode is activated when you press Volume Up (or both of volume buttons) and insert USB cable. I know that E98x has some strange button sequences, like rebooting to recovery is a two step operation (Volume Up + Power until navbar blinks, then power button twice, that's the only way mine wanted to boot into recovery), so please check around.
As far as USB connection issues, don't use USB3+ ports and if you're on Windows 8.1+ and later, run with Administrator privileges. I never experienced that one (used LGFlashTools from inside VirtualBox running Win XP for all my needs, I'm not a Windows user), so can't really help much but forums are full with explanations how.

Thank you very much...now the phone is back to initial state. This what i've done:
1. Download LG Flash tool from http://lgflashtool.com/
2. Download LG USB Drivers from http://lgflashtool.com/
3. Install LG flash tool and LG USB Drivers
4. Plug usb cable to phone
5. Hold volume buttons and then plug the usb cable to PC (i use win 10)
6. Voila, the Download Mode icon is showed up
7. Run LG Flash Tool (Administrator privilege) & follow the instruction (i use e988 v20c stock firmware)
8. Phone back to normal (only if you use the correct stock firmware)
A very big thanks to ShadySquirrel
Hopefully this thread can also be used as reference for anyone who has the same issue as i had
