(I'm reading Google Now is crashing unless you extract this file and put it in your /system/lib/). There's also a weirder solution posted on the internet: Long press the home screen, select Settings. Select Voice. Select Language to change the default. Change to another language, I choose English – UK. Hit Home. Do a Google Search. Repeat the first three steps. Change back to English – US.
I'd hold off on the OTA to update Search...then again...I don't use it.

My experience...
Copy all files into "/system/app" and set permissions to rw-r-r-.
Android 4.4 Launcher (GoogleHome.apk) (Works great! Butter smooth, nice change in functionality.) Requires Google Now (Velvet.apk) and Google Play Services (PrebuiltGmsCore.apk)
Calendar (v201308021) (Works great!)
Clock (v3.0.0) (Works great!)
Email (v6.0-893803) (I don't use, didn't try.)
Gallery (v1.1.40304) (Works, but force closes when trying to edit a photo.)
Gmail (v4.6.1) (Works great!)
Camera (v2.0.001) (Works great! Limited to 1080p video recording on Snapdragon Note 3's. 4K is not an option.)
Hangouts (v2.0.012) (Works great w/ new SMS messaging capabilities. In that regard, it can replace the stock messaging app. However, MMS's (pic messages to phone numbers) freezes the app, requiring you to clear its cache and data to get it working again. Sending the same picture to a standard Hangout recipient without a phone number, it functions without issues.)
Keep (v2.0.50) (Works great!)
Google Keyboard (v2.0.19003.893803a) (Would not work. Selected it through Android's Input Changer. While the space for the keyboard was reserved (blank white spot), the keyboard itself never displayed.)
Wallpapers (Available in both gallery apps upon copying to device's storage. Redundant, as they were already available to select as wallpapers with the KitKat launcher.)
Initially, Google Search kept crashing, even after trying the languages trick. Using the lib file recommended by @docnok63 worked perfectly. Saying, "Ok Google" from the any of your Homescreens or Google Now activates voice search. All search queries performed were successful and crash free.
(Rename the original to libgoogle_recognizer_jni_l.so.bak before copying.)
libgoogle_recognizer_jni_l.so (Tested, confirmed working! ) Copy the file into "/system/lib" and set permissions to rw-r-r-.
(Rename the original to libvideochat_jni.so.bak before copying.)
libvideochat_jni.so (Fixes video chat issues in the Hangout app. Tested, verified working.) Copy the file into "/system/lib" and set permissions to rw-r-r-. Thanks @NeoMagus
Photosphere_Fix.rar (Google Camera Photosphere FC Fix) Extract winrar archive and copy the files into "/system/lib" and set permissions to rw-r-r-.
Ok, so explain this one...
When using the Kit Kat Home Launcher... You can't change the DPI of your system, or you will constantly have the keyboard popup when you hit the home button and it goes back to the home screen..
Why is this?
For anyone having problems with search force closing. The easiest solution:
- go into your PHONE settings, (app drawer > settings. NOT Google launcher settings)
- go to language & input
- change default language to different language (I chose Spanish)
- click home
- in the Google search bar, PRESS THE MIC and do a search USING YOUR VOICE (do not type)
- after search is complete, go home again, and go into settings again (if you chose to change to Spanish, settings got renamed to Config in your app drawer).
- go to language & input
- change default language back to Englis
- "Ok Google" won't show up in the Google search bar, but saying it still works.

Edit it needs 2 other apps for it to work Google search and Google services

The two additional apps can be found by following the OP's first link. They've always been there.
Google search works great for me when searching, but saying ok Google or Google never works when trying from any home screen. Only works when I have Google now already open.

You guys may have already done this, but not knowing how experienced you are, I'll ask anyway...
Are you using Android 4.4 Launcher (GoogleHome.apk) specifically with Google Now (Velvet.apk) and Google Play Services (PrebuiltGmsCore.apk) to ensure everything functions properly? I also manually copied each file into "/system/app" and set the permissions to rw-r-r-.
Did you copy libgoogle_recognizer_jni_l.so into "/system/lib" and set permissions to rw-r-r-?
Note: The newest Google Play Services or Google Search (Google Now "Velvet.apk") updated from the market under JellyBean did not work properly for me. This is even after I copied the updated files from "/data/app", renamed them to their correct titles, and moved them into "/system/app". I had to use the KitKat specific files from the links provided above.
"Ok Google", only works with "English (US)" language for me. I tried "English (Canada)" as well as "English (UK)", and each time the mic in the search bar was hollow. It's not until I switch back to English (US) that the mic becomes solid. Also, while navigating to "Settings/Voice", I noticed that "Hotword detection" is only available by choosing English (US), which is the main setting that allows the app and device to listen for the phrase.

Nice write up. I got the new keyboard to work with both my N3 and my girl's S4 (although, oddly, there's less emojis on her S4 for some reason). Make sure after you install the .apk that you enable it in Settings\Languages and Input (it will be unchecked by default.) It appears as Google Keyboard - English (US).

It's built for another device with a different version of Android. Don't EXPECT everything to work flawlessly. You can look over this thread for troubleshooting help.
Has anyone flashed the new email?
Looking for some feed back on it maybe screenshots.

Hey guys! I have a question about the LG keyboard. It only remembers and suggests words for certain apps or webpages.
Is there any way i can get it to remember text from all apps and web content.
As i previously had a note 3 and that remembered and suggested text from any app or website.
Or is there a way to port the samsung keyboard on LG G3?
Thanks
Not choice "Just Once" "Always" to set default app Lollipop 5.0
Hello to all, I have 6 days trying to find out why I can't make default applications in my note 3 SM-N900T Lollipop 5.0 API 21 Rooted Xposed Frmkw 89
The apps show up, but the "just once" and "always" are like off.. i touch it and nothing happen.. i got Better Open With, but still showing all the apps to pick one, means that it did not set any to default...
For example, if i choose Chrome to open a URL, ok,---- but when i finish, and another URL to open in Chrome --don't let me do nothing,, i have to pick another app, them close, and open de URL and them pick again Chrome ( hope you fallow me )...
Now I'm trying to open a video, Open with VLC ---- "just once" "always" .... touched and nothing.
Use a different application ... "Video Player" and works. but not the VLC i want for first choice.
I hope some one could tell me what is going on..what is blocking my decision of a default app of my choice... because i think everything was Ok before..
if there are some module xposed... or edit inside.. or something...
I did all i read in many google web pages.....
In the setting-- Default Applications:
Home: Nova Launcher
Messages: Messages
CLEAR DEFAULTS
Nova Launcher
Nothing else....
Hope to have some suggestions from you... and thanks in advance.
Herm.
Hello... Any help..?? Suggestions ??
Thanks H.
If this does not happen with a stock ROM too, then you know it is a software issue as a result of rooting, Nova launcher, etc.
I wanted to remove (disable) some of the apps I don't need (starting with Chrome and Weather); however, the Disable icon on the app properties page is grayed out. I then checked a few other "system" apps and none of them had the disable button working.
Is this some new Oreo "feature", or is it Xiaomi / Mi Max 3 specific? I know that on a Huawei device running stock Nougat a few months ago, disabling was available.
(On a side note - is it possible that MIUI doesn't include "search" (for apps) on the homescreens?)
You can disable system apps by following this:
Set the language to english, go to Play store -> Help & feedback, find and open the following article "Delete or disable apps on Android", you will see a link named "Tap to go to Application Settings", tap it and the stock app manager will appear.
it's not oreo or max 3 feature, it's just hidden. download from play market - Redmi System Manager, no root requires, open app, give it permissions (if asks) touch the button on the bottom (three point vertically) press Show system apps, find and disable. I've disabled many useless apps this way
Thanks, seems it gets to the same stock app manager as the one from Help&Feedback in Store app. Also, I came across an app MIUI Hidden Settings which also pretty much accomplishes the same (and has lots of other features as well). So there is hope (until I actually read parts of Xiaomi's Privacy Policy, which made me worried...).
But it seems that Xiaomi (if I compare it to my Huawei experience) is much more stringent when it comes to being able to disable crap. For instance, I was able to disable Chrome and Google Photos, but Feedback, Cleaner, and stock Browser have a grayed out Disable button no matter what.
Just got the phone a few days ago, very happy with it so far. However, I'm having issues setting default app for reddit (tried both RIF and Boost). Attempting to open a reddit.com link from a Google search and then tapping on "Set to Always Open" does nothing. It sends me to the "Open by default" setting page and all I see there is "No defaults set." It's fine if I set Chrome or Firefox as the default app, but I think the problem is that opening the reddit.com link isn't being recognized as a reddit link, but a google.com link.
Anyone experienced anything similar?
Ditto

I see the same thing too. Not just with Reddit but other things too where I try to set a default and it just doesn't get saved/accepted by the phone .
It took me forever to set up Nova as my launcher
Go to apps, then his the 3 for menu and select default apps. All changes must be done here , Nova would not stick when selecting from the Nova menu. See if that works
Awesome...

Awesome, that's what you are sir. Another annoying thing hopefully you have the solution for, the Notifications... Instead of the temperature, it shows the app icon so goes for the other apps such as instead of email nos. , it shows app icons, I mean what the bloody hell? Their hardware engineers managed to put a fan inside the damn thing but their ****ty software department sucks donkey balls. Any solution for that?
