[SDK] [Library] Too long strings after translation? - Design, Prototyping, UI, Graphics

Have problems with too long strings which looked perfect in original language?
We have a free SDK supporting translation while using the app so translation happens on the phone totally in context. Result can be seen in the app at once. Your preferred translators or your best/beta users also can translate. Completed translations can be downloaded by any user separated from the app itself.
I wonder your opinion about it.

We prepared a plugin for Android Studio and IntelliJ IDEA to provide automated integration of Nativer SDK. It is available on Github:https://github.com/Transround/Native...android-studio and in IntelliJ plugin repository http://plugins.jetbrains.com/plugin/7637?pr=androidstudio
In case you use Android Studio or IntellJ, you can make your app translated to 70+ languages and be ready for further translation by your users within a few minutes. Try it – you only risk only 5-10 minutes of your time to discover an exciting and suprisingly effective new technology.

[20/09/2010] MiCarrito - Shopping List application v.1.391

Hello,
I just finished developing an application to manage the shopping list (called MiCarrito) and I'd like you to test it and provide me with some feedback.
My intention is to publish it on the marketplace (It will be free, of course), but before that I wanted to test it with hardcore users like you, guys.
With MiCarrito you can:
• Sort the shopping list by product categories to make shopping easier and faster.
• Create recipes defining lists of ingredients. Add all the ingredients in a recipe directly to the shopping list.
• Sort product categories in the list to fit the path you usually follow in the supermarket.
• Develop new products and categories, and re-assign products to a different category.
• For each product you can select the unit of measure and its price.
• For each product you can see the quantity that you bought of that same product during the last week and the last month.
• Synchronize your shopping list with your partner or a friend.
• Once in the supermarket, you can move the products from the shopping list to the shopping cart/trolley. Besides, you can set the current price and see the price it was the last time you bought it.
• As you fill the cart you will see the number of products in it and total amount of your shopping.
Localized in English, Spanish, Russian, Deutsch, Polish, Italian, Portuguese, Swedish, French, Danish, Chinese, Korean, Czech and Greek
It has been tested in QVGA, VGA and WVGA resolutions.
Greetings and thanks for your help.
Note: Should any of you guys want it in your own language, find the resource file also available for download. Just let me know that you can help me with the translation and we'll keep in touch.
v.1.391
- Fixed Greek localization
v.1.39
- Fixed bug related to textboxes and compact qwerty or phone keypad. (Thanks to iosub for reporting)
v.1.38 - Release candidate for Marketplace (If no bug is found in the next five days...)
- Improved usability for product availability feature
- Added Greek localization (thanks to geogeo.gr)
- Fixed Portuguese localization
- Fixed English localization
v.1.37
- Fixed category choice form
- Fixed Italian localization
- Fixed German localization

Hi mr.First. First of all, thx for testing
Yup, I can make English the default language. I hope to have it done in 2-3 days.
While I do this, you could see it in English if you change your regional settings (I know this is not the most appropiate answer, but it's the only way to make it work for non-English PDAs while I get this fixed). Sorry for that.

Yes, I did it. Changing regional settings.
Will be waiting next version. Thank you
Hi, one question. If installed in the SD card and afterwards the PPC hardresets, does it need reinstallation? can reinstallation be avoided by restoring a settings backup file?
Hi cruiserrr. It shouldn't require reinstallation as all settings remain in the install dir.
You'll only lose file association (stored in the registry) needed for importing sync files.
Anyway, if you want to backup your data, best option is to select "synchronize with a friend" option in the menu and send export data to yourself.
This way, if you need to hard reset your PPC and reinstall application, you'll have your exported data.

Hi Alfra. Thanks for the new version.
I think I can try to translate your application into Russian
Nice application.
Can it calculate prices in euro?
Thanks
Seems to be a very nice project.
What about other localizations? Is it possible that you exclude the language terms in a seperate text file for easy translation?
Btw: In your 3rd screenshot, there is "Quantity" [InputField] "und."
What does "und." mean? Don't know it

The application selects the currency that corresponds to your regional settings, although it’s only informative in that it only multiplies each quantity by the product price (it doesn’t bother about €, $, £ or any other symbol/currency) and sums them all. It only shows the symbol corresponding to your currency (the appropriate one based on your regional settings ) to let you know that that is a price and not any other number.

units... sorry ;-)
New version uploaded.
I also uploaded English resources in an excel file.
so if any of you feel like translating it to your own language, just send the translated file over to me Thx all for your help.
My feedback:
Very very nice looking, very finger friendly, great functionality adding recipes. No hangouts. Very good job, congrats.
Maybe performance can be improved a little (is not bad, but I think can be better).
I would put quantity as a column rather than second line.
I would facilitate access to categories & recipes
I would allow to store lists (eg. monthly shopping, fresh goods shopping, etc) and even "shops": one shop can be the actual shopping list, another shop can be the things I bring to the beach or when doing a business travel. etc
I would allow to add indiviual ingredients of recipes (maybe I do not want them all) and also let you see last time/quantity bought when deciding which ones to add.
I seem to have a problem when the program is running, when I minimize, if I press the micarrito icon the app does not come to front. I can only access with the task manager.

Many thanks for your feedback, cruiserrr.
- I will check if I can do any improvement regarding performance
- With respect to storing different lists (eg. monthly shopping, fresh goods shopping, etc) you can use recipes as a workaround and use them as predefined lists.
- I like the idea of adding only some of the ingredients in a recipe. I will try to have a new version with this functionality during this week.
- The problem you experience when you minimize is a "known" issue with the app. Will be fixed in the next version. Sorry for this one.
Thanks again for your comments and feedback.

It is automatically created when you delete a category that has products in it to avoid deleting all the products. If you want it to disappear, just assign the products to their corresponding categories or else delete those products
I think this is better so that you don't accidentally delete products inside a category. In case you feel this is not the right behaviour, just let me know your concerns about that.

[18/07/2010][APP] Sorry I'M Late 1.5.1

People are always in a hurry to get somewhere. A common issue is to inform someone waiting for us that we are, let’s say, a bit late and maybe reassure him that we will be there in some time. It would be great if we could send a message to that someone telling him our approximate location and an estimate time to reach the destination ( maybe along with some excuses )
Sorry I'M Late was developed to achieve this task. This application allows a user to get his aproximate location and then send it to someone else though an SMS. While the idea itself is not new, my objective was in the first instance to create a User Interface as easy and friendly i could, secondly I wanted to exploit CellID localization instead of GPS. The last thing i wanted to do was to provide a more human readable message to be sent: most of the application i've tested, use GPS positioning to get a precise localization but then they send Latitude and Longitude coordinates or Google Maps links and usually when i want to tell someone where i am, i use street names instead of coordinates
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
[17/07/2010] Today I've released the new version of Sorry I'M Late with some new additions and fixes (thanks for all your hints and suggestions). Following is the updated feature list, along with the changelog (for more technical stuff).
[18/07/2010] Released 1.5.1 version. I forgot to add compression to the network calls o) so this is basically just a patch release
Some features:
Doesn't require GPS antenna
Finger friendly UI thanks to SenseSDK from Steady Software
Call history access to guess the most probable recipients
Native SMS application used to send message to allow last minute changes
Currently localized in 12 different languages (English, Italian, Czech, Polish, German, French, Spanish, Portoguese, Russian, Dutch, Swedish and Japanese) *new v 1.5*
Support for custom messages via template *new v 1.5*
Reduced network bandwidth usage *new v 1.5.1*
Requirements:
.NET Compact Framework 3.5 required
data connection is used to retrieve street names so be aware of this before you start the application
Changelog:
1.5.1
- added compression support on network calls to reduce bandwidth usage
1.5
- added internationalization resources (12 languages support)
- improved position approximation, now integrated with landmarks from Wikipedia
- moved localization algorithms to a remote server to reduce network calls and CPU load
- added icons
- new option menu
- added option to append a link pointing to the location on Google Maps
- added option to create a template message to be used instead of default one
- fixed single line help on main screen (at least i hope so )
1.0
- first public release
Notes:
Currently the remote server is located on a free host. Usually it's fast an reliable but network problems can occour
In order to display the new application icon on the Start Menu, a soft reset may be required
As you may have noticed, there is a new "Twitter" option available but it's disabled. I'm thinking whether include it or not in a future release.
Last but not least, thanks to:
- Jack_Surfer (for polish translation)
- claus1953 (for spanish translation)
- dr.cryo (for czech translation)
- mike2nl (for dutch translation)
- Cunione (for french translation)
- Mad Marc (for german translation)
- Celso Marques (for portoguese translation)
- PlackSlayer (for japanese translation)
- scanie (for swedish translation)
- serfer222 (for russian translation)
- the0ne (for video review on YouTube)
- Cunione (for icons)
- billyJ (for icons)
- bernabap (for icons)
- tunnuz (for icons)
Lol, I saw the tittle and thought this was an (AI) app that generates intelligent excuses given some contextual information
Anyway, great app.
Installed, but can't find icon. I also installed to SD card? Thanks
EDIT: ok I'm running it from the sorryimlate.exe file in file browser. Works, don't understand the contact selection just yet. It seems like from call history. Pretty neat so far. Thanks.

You're right! Actually the contact list is populated with numbers fetched from the call history. it is a very simple algorithm that group the caller IDs and count them, then the list is ordered from the most called to the less. the idea is that if you need to send someone a message to say you're late, it is very likely that it is a person you call or receive calls from. you're still able to pick a contact from the address book however, selecting the first option and then searching for it just before sending the actual SMS.
As ai said, for now it is a very simple algorithm, maybe in the next release i'll try to refine it a bit, for example considering also the date of the calls.
Cool little app ;-)
It would bee even better if it was possible to choose more then one contact from the list.
And there is missing a dot at the end of the message.
Thanks for the suggestion i think that this will definitely come with the next release.
Maybe set an own default message? So I can set in my own language.
first of all.. this is a wonderful idea.. and i'm glad to see the sense interface once again.. but for some reason whenever i run the application it disconnects me from the network and starts looking up a signal. after it finds one and i click "find it", it disconnects me from the network once more...
when i try choosing from the contact list the app crashes..
hmm

yes, you can expect that on the next release
oh and by the way, for now there are only English and Italian as available languages, but if someone have a little time to translate the strings in other lenguages i will surely appreciate that.

the fact it disconnect is actually a desired behavior. When the application boots up it forces a network deregistration and then reconnects in the hope to associate with another GSM tower and thus have two distinct point used to approximate the position instead of just one.
speaking about the crash, can you tell me please the exact steps you perform before the problem shows ?
Really great app, works flawlessly on my TouchPro. Thanks !!
I would really like to see this on WP7 as well
how to do translation in txt file?
i've attached to the first post a txt file containing some xml tags. you just need to translate the strings inside <Value></Value> tags.
Thanks a lot
It sounds very interesting, because a all the time stop and go traffic here in our country, this app can help out .. possible.
Polish translation
Hi,
here is my Polish translation of the strings.txt for this interresting app
View attachment strings.txt
Attached spanish translation text.
Thanks to claus1953 and Jack_Surfer for translations, i will include them in the next release (due to next week, so stay tuned )
Czech translation
Hi Stefano.
Very useful app! Thanks for it.
I'm sending Czech translation. Please send me message in case of further releases and new strings for translating.
Regards
Pavel
And here the 1st ducth translation. Possible some changings to do, because i have made the translation before i have used the app.
Ciao Ste !
Nice app and very useful !
Here my french translation.
I had a few bugs :
- In the help, the description box, is only on 1 line. Not multi-lines like you show it in the screenshot.
- Is it possible to add a "." after the location ? (at the end of the sentence)
Ex. : "Hi! I'm around xda forum. I'll be there in 15 minutes.
- Can you add the localisation name (the city name) after the address ?
- Where is located the language file ? Is it possible to make a function that will check a language folder insted of including it in a .cab file ? (should be easier for all translaters)
I tell you back that's a nice app.
Bravo, bel lavoro. Quand'è che fai la version 1.5 ???
thx
hey!thx a lot! it is a great idear!
what wouldbe great: a map link in the sms, so the receiver have only to click on the link zo see my position on Google maps.
possibility to send a email
thx one more time, its great!

MetrofaceLIFT localization (rather simple, via public Google doc)

Hi guys. If you would like to help translate MetrofaceLIFT, I have made public a Google doc for doing just that.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AnmLaaQYEzbedGpRVUpzSy1vYWRUR1M3eXY4QTJJbmc#gid=0
Please only fill out portions of the document if you are fluent in that language.
If you would like recognition, leave your name and which portion you translated at the bottom of the document.
Thanks for the help!
The app is already in the Marketplace and more information can be found here.
Added full Polish translation.

Next Browser Multi-Language Beta

What's Next Browser? An awesome Windows Phone web browser! Download the ad-supported, no limitation, trial and find more info here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1491472
Coming Soon!!
I've noticed I've had a lot of users who don't speak English, so I've decided to add some other languages to Next Browser.
The beta is coming soon, so please sign up, especially if you speak another language besides English, to be a tester. I need the following information in a post or PM:
-Windows Live ID
-Country*
-Language*
*from your phone's settings
This is a very serious beta, I expect feedback from all testers. I just need you to open the app and explorer menus and settings to see if there are any translation errors.
There will be issues!! Please report them!! I'm using Google Translate so there will be translation mistakes.

Quick Shutdown for WM10, now with Redstone version support

Quick Shutdown, just like its name, is an simple app which can shutdown or restart your phone with one click(only works with Windows Mobile 10). With no redundant features, this app is lighter and faster.
This app uses the Device Portal's REST APIs in order to achieve the shutdown work, which is also used in Device Diagonistic Hub. So developer mode and Device Portal is required. Just simply go to Settings-Update&Security-For developers and turn Device Portal on. Then everything will work fine.
The app is free and the paid version is only for donation if you think I've done a good job.
For developers who want to create more amazing apps with the REST APIs provided in Device Portal. I open sourced a class library which wrapped the APIs
This class library is still working in progress and only support Mobile&IoT platform. Support for more platform and more features is coming soon.
Because I'm a newbee and XDA don't allowed me to post any external links in my post. For apps, just search for its name 'Quick Shutdown' in the store and you'll get it. And for the source code, you can find it in my github. My github account name is: 'gaojunxuan'
Thanks a lot for you guys' understanding,
Kevin
This Quick Shutdown https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/app/9nblggh4s31x and this GitHub https://github.com/gaojunxuan/DeviceManager ?
Thanks for the app. A couple suggestions, allow to pin tiles to Start and make the confirmation dialog optional to make it really quick. Localization in other languages would also be useful. Great work!
