Is there a way to keep YouTube running music in the background as I'm exploring other apps? Coming from a pre there was a patch for this

Sorry, my bad.
Not used android before, I will also assume there isn't a hombrew/overclocking/patching repository and app like preware?
Also no way to enable flash in the background when flash becomes available?

Seems pretty silly having multi-core processing without the ability to multitask, doesn't it?

You don't know much about Android, do you?
Android does have ability to multitask. It is just an effective multitasking. Applications can be left 'running' without them actually running. They are written in memory and kept there, without taking battery, until they are called back and continue on from where they left off. But Android also allows applications to open services in the background, triggered by specific time or event or by an application, that allows them to work while the application is not in focus. Many music players are done this way. Also a lot of apps synchronize in the background in this manner.
It is entirely the application developers decision to do what is best for the specific application. Android 4.0 gives all the tools the user needs. This is not Windows desktop where every working application and process takes processing power to keep running.
Would be awesome then if someone made a YouTube app that worked in the background

It'll never happen for the same reason that not all videos are viewable on mobile. You're using the service to watch something, not listen.

i know a jailbroken iphone has an app for that
iOS supports background audio in the browser and youtube app. I was hoping that ICS will support it.
update FACEBOOK 1.9.. sooooo damn smooth!! update people
I got fed up waiting on the Facebook app to be good and finally bought friendcaster pro. The interface, speed, and options are leaps and bounds better. And push notifications with pop ups that actually work better than the official app IMHO. Another one to keep an eye on is fast Facebook which is still in beta but very promising.

App got quite the overhaul it seems, despite the sparse changelog.
First thing I tried though was contact sync and it still tried to sync all my contacts instead of existing ones, so I guess that's still broken.
I am so pissed that Facebook is shoving crap down my throat.
I don't want a Messenger and Camera app installed with Facebook.
Tempted to uninstall it now

Seriously...
It's bad enough that I have two camera apps (Fx Camera and Instagram) now you give me another one? Stop with these redundancies and make your app more cohesive and streamlined FB.
I'm still sticking with the mobile site.
Facebook is like a virus. They called their new shortcuts 'Camera' (like Google) and 'Messenger' (like Google). What's next? Calendar and People?

They can't be disabled either. Unreal.
The most confusing thing has to be the messenger. Do they want us to use the dedicated messenger app or the one in the FB app because now there is a shortcut for both in the app drawer
Facebook need to get slapped. All there apps sucks on android. Going to get my hands on apk of facebook . Then rip that **** right out of it... Hey mark. Hope Ur reading this..

It is seriously smooth and improved. Not a fan of the "camera" app, but I already had their Messenger app installed so this just replaces it.

Yeah they want you to use the new one I'm assuming. Although it just opens the FB app and moves to that tab. If you close it then open the FB app from its main icon, you just get taken to the messenger tab. Might as well just use the app only and hit the tab manually. At least its not super slow anymore so it'll be easy.
Honestly they can instantly remedy this by giving us settings options to show/hide the Camera and Messenger app shortcuts.
Can anyone explain how I can just install a facebook apk that doesn't include the shortcut icons?
If not, im removing facebook from the phone and using the web version instead.
far out I wish facebook wasn't used by so many people because I hate it.

I deleted mine and couldn't be happier, I'm a decently social person, but I just find it a waste of time, but that is just me.
As for the a unified app, that doesn't have those shortcuts, I think I might be able to edit the apk, I'll give it a try.
Its so stupid to have two messenger icons... plus a extra camera button... is this why FB bought instagram? Just to have their own camera shortcut?

since instagram released, i have been using fb less and less.
So Facebook loads up quicker now? I've noticed after using facebook for couple of days, it'll load slower. Tried it on two gnex, same result.

I just uninstalled the app, and will use the mobile site from now on.
Is facebook also having the age-old wake-lock issue? Back when I installed it (Literally 2 months ago) I always had wake-lock issues under BetterBatteryStates called something "katana" even with manual syncing. Probably the reason why I hate the app so much.
Still doesn't load my news feed. Stupid app. Back to friendcaster!

The interface was different for a second (messenger icon on top-right, able to post a status update without navigating to a screen outside of the News Feed), but then when I went to post a status update it FC'd and reverted to the old layout.
What?

Same for me as well. Weird.
I don't get the point of having the "OK, Google" if I can't use it on any screen except when I actually open Google Now. I was hugely let down by the lack of "always listening" but what is the point of having this if I need to open up a specific program just to set an alarm with my voice?
How do I "OK, Google. Set an alarm for 30 minutes" without actually opening up the god damn Google Now?
I am so disappointed in this lack of feature or my lack of knowledge.
Purchase a Moto X if you want always listening.

Bro you lost me when you started talking about "god damn google now"...is it really that serious of an issue to bring your lord and savior into it. So I figured I would really get you riled up Smurphy And it worked lol.
Anyway see my thanks meter compared to yours before you bash for not helping the XDA community. Bye now....
Anyways, I had to put that guy above on the ignore list for both wasting this threads time and just being rude.
If you hold the home button, then swipe up it launches Google Now, so that will be how I access it until active listening from the home screen when the phone is on is one day enable or someone does an extension.
Thanks to anyone but the guy I had to block.

Do a google search for the apk. You should be able to side load it.
You can then use ok google on the home screens, but still nowhere else.
You can download the Google now Launcher (googlehome.apk) from numerous threads here on xda, any gapps zip download for aosp, and many places on the internet. That's the only way to do it and you won't get BlinkFeed either :/ otherwise gotta deal with the home buttoness

Thank you both kindly! I may do that if I find the "hold home, swipe up" can be improved upon.
Have a great day, and if I do side load it and test it I will replay back and edit my original post to include that and state how it works.

There is an application called open mic +. It is still in beta I think but it works amazingly. Check it out.

As far as I'm aware, it could only be done with certain apps (like the mic+ app linked in the above post) or from installing the Google Now launcher. That means you won't be able to run Sense though so if you really want to carry on using Sense you'll need to use one of the aforementioned apps instead.
It's a shame that HTC didn't implement such a feature to be honest, especially considering they made it possible to use Ok Google commands once on the Google Now app. I guess it's officially limited to certain Nexus devices though.

Thank you for this. I tried installing it and messing with it in many ways, but it only recognizes my "Okay, Google" about 10% of the time (I tried both engines) and even when it does recognize my "Okay, Google" from a home screen it takes about 5-10 seconds for it to launch, thus by the time it launches I have either thought it failed since it took so long or I said "Okay, Google" 3 times already by the time it launches.
Thank you anyways, it just doesn’t work well with this phone maybe. Pretty disappointing since the processor it has is able to do always listening or at least home screen listening.
xposed module
Not sure if you have root, but there is an xposed module for this. just search "ok google" in the xposed app and you'll find it.

Afternoon all,
I'm hoping someone can help me before I smash my watch into a million pieces ...... I've had the watch now for about 3 days and still have found no way to put apps on it. If I try and open maps or Whattsapp it opens them on the phone. I have little icons in the start menu for music, find my phone, Fit and Google keep but nothing else.
I've seen a few YouTube videos where program icons can be accessed by swiping the screen left or right but mine doesn't do that. In the instructions I got it said compatible for apps for Android Wear would automatically appear on my watch..... this hasn't happened either??
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks
You are correct the apps will automatically show up on the watch if you have them on your phone. Try downloading "Wear mini launcher" for quicker way of opening apps. That's probably what you saw on the video. Android Wear 5.1.1 will have a better start menu and will probably hit the Sony watch in the next week or two.
Is your watch connected to the phone? I'm guessing it is but if you're not seeing wear apps that should be there maybe go into the Android wear app settings and click "resync apps".
Also you should be able to open apps by getting to the OK Google screen and going all the way to the bottom and click "start...".
Hope this helps!
Thanks for the quick reply, I can see everything now apart from a icon for Whattsapp, any ideas?
It probably only displays notifications and isn't actually a standalone app. I don't use it myself so can't say definitely. There's no standalone hangouts app either but you can still send texts through it.
Thanks, your reply makes sense.

You can use adb to install standalone Android apps. Android Wear is still Android at its core. A lot have issues due to screen size and UI differences but you'd be surprised what apps will work. Got a few emulators running. You can push any file you want to the smartwatch using the adb command adb push filename /sdcard/.
You may have to be rooted but it's incredibly easy to root the watch. Can get a lot of cool apps running by playing with the DPI and such. Although some apps (games especially) will kill the battery rather quick as it's not meant for that stuff.

The only thing I can think of is you might try "Resync apps" in the Wear app on your phone. It takes a fair amount of time for it to sync them all over Bluetooth.
I tried that and nothing.
Does it show up as an app in your launcher?
