[Q] Question about XBMC + Stickmount - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone successfully loaded movies from an external HDD mounted using stickmount ?
If yes:
What external Harddrive do you have? Powered/Unpowered / brand etc.....
Any problems with large files?
Im wanting to playback large 1080p files from external, some up to 10GB and want to make sure there isnt any playback problems. If there is, how do you playback these files without problems?
Thanks in advance

I'm using this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822178434
No problems with any 1080p files so far, I believe I've even tried a BD25 image, but that might have been from my NAS, not the local drive. I will say I've had one movie playing on the FireTV and the FireTV was serving up another movie to another device via FTP over WiFi from the same USB drive, both seemed to be playing fine.

thanks, i have something similar already, wasnt sure it would work without power.
I wanted to get a 4TB powered HDD but unsure how that will run.

ok i read on another forum about someone having problems loading up a 2TB HDD. Maybe because not enough power?
I was thinking about connecting by 1 of these so the power is supplied to the hub:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB-3-0-S...t=UK_Computing_USB_Cables&hash=item1e8d5e8035
Would this work?

I have no problems whatsoever with a 2TB Western Digital Passport. (no power cord)
I play huge mkv and mp4 files all the time...

This is the exact setup I'm running. Works great.
The only thing I would mention, is that my FireTV doesn't reboot correctly with the powered USB hub plugged in. Which has been reported by many others as well. If I power off the unit, and power it back on with the powered USB hub plugged in, it sits at a static black and white Amazon screen. I have to unplug the hub and reboot again to make it work.
Otherwise, this setup has been working perfectly.

can anyone get multi card readers to work with note otg usb?

I can't, it just keeps saying 'usb connected' and 'usb disconnected' repeatedly and no files show up.
I can get single card readers to work, but those types that have multiple slots for different types of cards just don't. On the pc the different slots show up as different drives, so I'm guessting this is the problem.
Has anyone got it to work?
I bought this. Works like a charm with all cards (microsd, sd, m2 and other) and it has a very fast data transfer!

Using it very often and always carry it at my pocket. For downloading photos from my friends with professional cameras.
Mine works fine
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note using XDA Premium App
How does it work?
Are these the types where each card shows up as a separate drive when connected to a pc?
On the note, when you connect it, do 4 directories show up in the usbstorage\sda folder, each representing 1 card?
It could simply be that yours requires a higher power rating.
Which reader do you have?
so how does the multi slot reader look for those who got it to work? Do you see 4 directories under the \sda directory?

No. It works same as normal USB-flash stick with one sda directory. With DriveMount app I mount all NTFS partitions at separate folders from my 64GB flashcard and 1TB HDD with sata-usb adapter.
I tried getting drivemount but the market says it is incompatible with my note..
I got one 4 slot usb hub with some issues. I can mount 4 pendrives but cant mount some pendrives with some card reader or something. Plus when i mount 2 or more PD, it only allows me to transfer data from or to the device. .......it doesnt allow me to transfer data from one pd to another......dont know why?
Sorry, wrong thread.

DirectoryBind works on Note II, Get more space for your stuff!!

It's no apps2sd, but it works for now with some draw backs. Honestly I'm looking forwards to getting the Apps2ExtSD2 working on these things. Seems a bit more stable and less confusing. I'll explain the confusing part in a sec...
Anyway, you can get the app and read all about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1410262 and major thanks to slig for this! Send him some thanks as well if you like this!
Next, follow this guide, kindly written by bala_gamer for the S3; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1889550
It basically tells you how to set the directories correctly so that it works with our phones and how to get started in setting up the directories.
I recommend moving the Android folder, the gameloft folder, and any other large directories, such as CoPilot maps.
Proof that it works...

If you do the math there... I have 10.95gb total and 8.14gb free meaning I'm only using 2.81gb of the internal storage... yet when you add up the applications and misc files you get a whopping 10.56gb. And as you can see, i've got some rather large games installed:
So far the phone hasn't given me any errors about being out of space. And note, my SD card says I'm using 18.28gb. I do have a few gb worth of music and misc files on it along with everything else. Oh, and the scandisk 64gb extreme card works perfectly in this phone, even when formatted to exFAT.
So far the one draw back I've found is that large games slow down a bit on the loading. For example, Nova3 starts up in a few minute vs <1 before this. I'm assuming this is attributed to the fact that while it's an "extreme" card, its still not as fast as the built in, plus there's probably a small lag due to the directory binding.
All my games still work like normal from what I can tell. Haven't tried every single one of them yet. But Nova3, and CoPilot work as if nothings changed (minus what I just mentioned about the slowness).
Now... the confusing part... so technically you do not have to pick the option to unbind when connected to usb. You can still browse the external and internal memory on your computer. BUT, while the space will show accurately, the folders will not. For example, if I goto /extsdcard/dirctorybinder/Android/ it only shows a few config files. If I goto /storage/Android/ it shows all the game files and says its 6gb+ in size.
You can avoid that by click the "handle usb connection". Then everything shows like it should. but this may cause a few issues if any apps are running that use a directory you moved. You could take the time and set each one up, one by one for only the large games that you need to move and know you wont normally use while plugged into the computer.
Hope this helps people who were suffering from the small storage space problem on these phones!

Choppy playaback issues with large MKV files (17gb+)?

Does anyone have problems playing back large MKV files? I was watching Star Wars: RotJ and the playback slows down and becomes choppy every 10 seconds or so. It doesn't buffer, it just get choppy.
My AFTV plays small and medium size (8-14gb) MKV files just fine.
Is there any way to fix this?
Probably not. It's too much bandwidth. Are you using wireless? Regular or 5G? Have yo tried Ethernet?

The AFTV is normally connected to ethernet. I disconnected it and tried it through 5G and it's slightly better.
My Alienware laptop has 5G and plays it smoothly through Kodi.
I downloaded MediaInfo and this is what the file looks like:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

}
Isn't ethernet 100mbps? So, that should be enough to play it back smoothly right?
Try for a test a playback with the 2nd audio stream instead the first DTS audio.

Thanks for the idea. The other two audio tracks are DVD commentary. Unfortunately, it played worse when switched to those tracks. I also noticed that the Kodi popup windows would fade in/out much slower.
I tried the setting for ENABLE PASSTHRU but that didn't seem to make any difference.
Okay, rebooting seems to have fixed it for now.
I can play this file without any lag or stutter or choppy video:
Not sure if it's a memory issue with Kodi 14.2 or the AFTV?
I think I might update to Kodi 15.
Seems as if the hardware decoder has internally crashed. Shouldn´t happen but nothing to worry about.

I had no problem playing 17GB+ .mkv files on my AFTV with Kodi 14.1 but I did customized my advancedsetting.xml to increase the buffer size Kodi uses as well as the speed of the pre-fetch. The following settings are what I use
<network>
<buffermode>1</buffermode>
<cachemembuffersize>83886080</cachemembuffersize>
<readbufferfactor>10</readbufferfactor> </network>

Keep FireTV Stick running with TV in stand-by mode? SOLVED!

Hi, I'm facing a problem with my shiny new FireTV stick, preventing it to be used as intended:
I've been using a chromecast stick to listen to online radio streams without problems. That chromecast was connected to a HDMI-audio extractor, comparable to this one: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B013WOLL44/
The audio extractor is connected to the tv (video + audio) and to a stereo amplifier (audio only). That way I can listen to audio streams on my stereo, with the TV in stand-by mode.
When I got myself a FireTV stick about a week ago, I replaced my old chromecast with it. So now the FTVS is connected to the HDMI-audio extractor.
But the FTVS enters sleep mode as soon as I switch the tv into stand-by mode (using the tv remote). So it seems to be impossible to listen to radio streams without the tv switched on.
Is there anything I can do to keep the FTVS running with TV in stand-by? (I even could solder some custom HDMI cable if needed.)
Solution: See post #3!
@spacetaxi
try to install http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/themes-apps/app-root-home-launcher-replacement-app-t3118135
and set looong Sleep timeout in FireStarter settings
maybe this help
Problem solved!
@Kramar111 Thanks for your suggestion, but that does not work.
During the last days I did further investigations and came to the following conclusion: It is a hardware feature of the FTV stick to go into sleep mode as soon as the tv is switched to stand-by. Of course that does make a lot of sense if one is using the stick for video streaming. But it does make less sense if one wants to use it for audio streaming...
I've been searching for a method to "hack" the HDMI connection, so the FTV stick does no longer recognize when the TV is switched to stand-by... and I've found a solution!
There is a looong thread on the Microsoft Technet forum regarding a somewhat similar problem with some pc video cards: https://social.technet.microsoft.co...onitor-off-detection-how?forum=w7itprogeneral
I've made two screenshots from that page, so we are able to keep the crucial bits of information, even if that thread may be no longer available someday in the future. This is the problem description from the Technet thread:

And this is the solution that's working for my setup (see post #1), too:

Hacking the Philips Screeneo U4

Hi, I am not sure, whether this is the right position to post for the Screeneo U4 because it is a projector and no TV. So if it is wrong here, sorry for that and the moderators might move it to the right place. But it is running Android TV.
I recently received a Philips Screeneo U4 ultra short throw projector. This projector uses Android TV and I did some research. I thought that somebody might be interested in the results. The screenshots show german Text but the steps should be self explanatory, so I did not change the language of the machine.
The first impression is that they use their own launcher on that machine which hides “normal” Android. But not totally .

If you go to Settings and there to serial number, press OK on the remote five times. Then you find a hidden menu. Once there go to ABDDemo and you will find the standard Android developer options. On my machine they were already activated. Go to USB-Debugging, activate it and you have standard USB-Debugging access with all adb-commands working. I also activated file transfer as standard usb-setting. The projector then shows as maxtv on your computer with the standard directories in the internal storage.
If you transfer an apk-file to InstallableApps it can be installed on the machine with the app-installer in the hidden directory. You could also use adb shell commands for installing.
In that menu you also find an entry called settings which leads to another standard android settings menu. Showing for example Wifi-Settings although there is no Wifi on board.
So far the first research steps. I would be interested whether there are other owners of that projector who know more and would also be interested in suggestions to do deeper research. And might be suggestions for useful software to try.

Hello and thank you for the information, I have connected a key with two apk, IPTV and Kodi in usb but I do not see them, you are talking about ADB shell but how to connect it since there is no integrated wifi or RJ45 network cable, can you help me please?
fabio
Hello,
you have to transfer the files to the Installable Apps directory (see above).
I use the connection to the projector which I have, when connecting an usb-cable to the computer.
Kodi would probably make sense for media on a connected harddisk or stick if Kodi recognizes those. I did not try this. But the installed vlc media player does quiet a good job in playing videos and music.
I do not see the point with IPTV without any Network connection. I did not manage to activate Wifi or ehternet via usb - did you?
